Sanya tore out the page to bring back the Immortal and closed the book before it could make a protest. "I've got an idea. This spell will bring him back in his Immortal state. I'm sure Kadaj doesn't know the difference between them. This spell must be completed during a full moon and since the one this month was early and there isn't one until next month, we have a whole month to prepare those humans, the Children of Evangelion, for the fight. They are our way out!"

Kiel slumped down next to Tori and closed his eyes. "This is difficult."

 

kaila reached up and pulled the paper out of sanya's hand.
"those children are in for a lot of trouble. One month to train. they'll be lucky if they survive the training, let alone kadaj."
She pulled herself up and examined the state sanya was in after battling the dark hunter.
"i can fix you if you want. I'm not the magic teacher for nothing. I'm fairly skilled in both offensive and defensive magic. We can traid services. I'll fix you if you fix something for me."
She pulled the bracelet out of her pocket. It was now a tangled mess. The gold glittered in her hand.
"i didn't want magic used on it...and ren said you might be able to take care of it."

Tori held onto kiel's hand tightly and rubbed his back with her free hand. She glanced down at the food on the table, but had no desire to eat. It seemed everyone else felt the same way. Nobody at the table was eating.

 

Sanya took the bracelet and examined it, "That's quite alright, Kaila.... I'd prefer to let my mechanic handle repairs. I can fix this up easy. Magic doesn't really go well with my gears..." She slowly moved her mechanical fingers into a fist and pocketed the bracelet. "All I need is a few new parts and some oil."

Kiel closed his eyes and set his head on the table.

Kadaj snarled at Nero, "What do you mean?! She'll get back to me at sunset...jeez..women...this is why you don't rely on women to do a job that requires anything! My Lord Demise will not wait! Too long has he been sealed under the earth, straining against the seals that keep him bound."

 

kaila thanked sanya before leaving her classroom. She headed towards her own classroom to be alone. It was certain everyone would look at her like a traitor, even if they didn't say it to her face. She had always been good at reading between the lines. Kaila sat down at her desk and studied the torn paper. She had never seen the language before. She had studied a lot of different spell books before, but none od them contained this style of writing.
old writing, old monster.
She let out a sigh. They were in a lot of danger. The whole world was really.

Tori stopped rubbing kiel's back and looked around at everyone at the table.
"relax. As long as we all stick together we'll do great. Right?"

Schuyler elbowed tori in the side.
"spoken like a true seraph. Oh! Tori I wanted to talk to you...i guess it can wait til girl's night. It's not really private here."

Giselle glanced up at them quickly.
"girl's night? Could I come?"

Schuyler looked at her old friend uncomfortably.
"ah...sure I guess. As long as ir's cool with genesis, since he seems to be in charge of you."
She was hoping he'd say no, but figured that wouldn't be the outcome.

 

Sanya apologized profusely to the wounded Book of the Grey as it lectured her on how old it's pages truly were and their worth.

Kiel glanced up at Genesis and noted the strain on his face. "Giselle...you shouldn't go too far without Genesis and since it is a girls night, Genesis isn't allowed, right? I don't think it'd be wise to leave his side. Kyrios asked them to leave, didn't he, Genesis?"

Genesis gave him a surprised look, his blue eyes wide and nodded shortly after.

Kiel nodded once, "Then I'd stick beside him if I were you Giselle. Seraph Kyrios is serious when he means for you to leave the school. But as an important human in...Yves' plan he set in motion...we'll need you in the school for quite some time."

 

Schuyler shrugged and gave her an 'i tried' kind of look, but was actually rather pleased giselle couldn't come. She wasn't ready to uncover that pain. It had been a very long time since she had seen giselle, and she never expected to see her again.

Giselle sat back in the chair frustrated. She hadn't had a real friend since schuyler left and just wanted a night to catch up with an old friend.

Tristan picked at his food, not really eating it.
"so now what?"

 

Uriel stood, answering Tristan's question for him. "Now...would the students and teachers please follow me. It's...time." She choked on her words and Gabriel stood with her. They both looked very tired as they headed out the door, heading along the twisting hallways for the back garden.

Kiel stood to follow. He noticed none of the teachers hung their heads except those in the High Court. None of them shed a tear for a Seraph that wasn't theirs. He figured they were counting their blessings that they still had their Seraphs. Uriel may have hung her head with Gabriel following behind her, but she didn't shed a tear again. He didn't want to see her cry again. Seeing the short Archangel break down like that was horrifying. "C'mon Tori...we should see what they've done with Yves' body and pay our respects."

Penny stood to immediately follow. He knew Schuyler would go and he figured he should be there to comfort her in their time of need but Genesis set his hand on his shoulder, keeping him in his seat. "Angels of his court go first...and then the rest of the angels...outsiders like you humans...and the Dark Court demons will go last. Stick close to Regi...okay? He's...a friend."

 

Tori stood and gave a glance back to the others at the table before walking. She didn't say anything as she took kiel's hand and walked to the funeral. She didn't want to start crying again, but had a feeling that would happen once the service started. She had only known the seraph as long as she had known everyone else. She didn't think she would miss someone so badly after three days. Especially not one she jadn't seen the entire time. Tori thought of how she would feel if it had been kiel, and it made her heart ache. She grabbed her chest and gave him a halfhearted smile.

Schuyler waited for the high court members to leave before standing. She walked by herself to the funeral. She wanted to walk with the others, but it didn't seem to be an option. She wasn't as broken up as the others, but still felt bad.

 

Kiel rubbed the back of Tori's hand. Following after everyone, they stood around and small group by small group of fours they entered the shrine, offered their respects to Yves and left a few gifts, often flowers and left. When it was Kiel and Tori's turn, Kiel felt his heart constrict. "Well...it's time Tori...Lets go see him."

 

tori could almost immediately feel herself choking up. The closer the got to the seraph, the harder it was to keep from crying. The tears quickly started to stream out. She tried wiping them with her hand, but they were coming too quickly. She couldn't help but stare at the ribbon on her wrist. Her vision was getting blurry from the crying.
"i'm...i'm s-sorry..."
She bit her lip and scanned the ice block up and down. Taking in the sight of the eternally frozen seraph.

 

Kiel knelt beside Yves and pulled a white rose from a bundle of flowers. "We're not going to forget you, old man. You can always look down on us and say we're not playing our roles right...but don't you dare...ever inflict this pain again." He flicked the rose onto Yves' chest and stood, returning to Tori's side.

Shimmers of light hung around the ceiling of the shrine and echoed Kiel's words and responded. "Promises promises...will you never grow up, Zadkiel? You have my word. Pain inflicted...will not be by my hand again. Heh...what would I do without this drama to keep an eye on? Remember...I can see to the real you and though you wander and wish for the truth...you must hold your honor and pride close, protect them, as the new High Court Seraphim."

Kiel swallowed hard at Yves' voice echoing down from the shimmers of light. "S-stupid Seraph..."

Kallai and Enan eventually stopped crying and commenced arguing with Kyrios, only referring to Yves as 'Brother'.

Heaven's Lament played for Yves as he viewed his own funeral with their eldest brother by his side. Micheal. He didn't move nor speak as Yves smiled fondly at Kiel and Tori. "They're good children...and they'll protect the Laws of Order well. I have faith in them. Don't you, Brother?" he turned to look at Micheal, watching his impassive face watch the funeral's progression. "How silly of me to ask. Of course you have faith. Now...on to all my put off buisness, right? Our Father wants to see me, correct?" Micheal turned away from the funeral and nodded once, speaking a single word so pure even Yves couldn't help but smile at the sound of it. "Yes." They both turned and headed off along a path carved perfectly in the grass, leading into the distance. He was home and home he'd stay, finally able to rest and resume his duties that he was born to do.

 

Tori looked around in a daze, hearing the voice.
"i heard him, but...but he was talking to you..."
She looked up at kiel. Her face was streaked with mascara. Tori looked and felt like a mess. She envied kiel a little bit. He didn't even want anything to do with yves, but he got an afterlife response.

Schuyler stood back a ways. She wasn't sad about the high court seraphim dying, but seeing tori break down like that pulled at her. She stood there picking at the end of her tank top. Schuyler wanted to leave, but knew it wouldn't be appropriate..

Kaila watched the processions from her window. She would wait to say goodbye once everyone had left. she didn't feel right showing up after what happened in the dining hall. Even if no one called her a traitor, she couldn't help but feel that way.

 

Kiel shrugged, "Nothing special. I'm sure he's got something planned for you too, Tori. Don't feel down. He's always been sketchy like that." Kiel led Tori out of the Shrine and over into the sunlight where Uriel stood reciting old verses from the Bible.

Genesis brushed by Schuyler, barely glancing up as he walked by her. He mumbled a few things outside the Shrine, without going inside. "You were there for me...you protected me from Kyrios' wrath several times...for that I thank you. I don't want to be in your debt anymore."

 

Tori choked back a sob and stood in front of the headmaster quietly. She didn't really want to talk anymore, just hide out. She wanted to disappear.

Schuyler noticed genesis walk past her. She was going to say something, but let it slide. Schuyler stood next to him and put a hand on his shoulder.

Tristan leaned over to penny and whispered.
"looks like you've got some competition."

 

Genesis nearly jumped out of his skin when Schuyler touched him. "Oh...it's just you. Uh...I just...I don't like being in debted to people."

Penny huffed, "Competition...hmph... I think I can correct that." Breaking off away from Tristan, Penny slipped his arm around Schuyler's waist. "A friend?" Genesis stared at Penny and glowered at him. "Yeah, you could say I'm her friend."

Kiel tugged Tori closer to him and stroked her hair. "If you want to leave, I'm sure they'd understand."

 

schuyler's eyes moved quickly over to penny who wrapped an arm around her. she didn't really know how to react, but she didn't feel it was probably appropriate at this point in time.
"what are you doing?"
schuyler had a confused look on her face. she wanted to comfort genesis after the day he had been having, but penny was interrupting.

tristan stood behind them and laughed. penny was making an ass of himself at a funeral over nothing.

tori looked up at kiel and nodded. she wanted to leave. watching the seraph die was hard enough, and now she had to watch everyone say goodbye. it was tearing away at her.

 

Genesis and Penny glowered at each other and Genesis stepped closer to Penny, "I don't think she wants you touching her right now, human. You'd best mind your place." Penny released Schuyler and grabbed Genesis' collar. "What'd you say?" Smirking, Genesis chuckled, "Need a hearing aid, human? Now get your dirty hands off of my shirt. This is a funeral, not a brawl." Shoving Genesis backwards, Penny took a single step to follow and was greeted by Genesis' red sword tip. "I'll ask you once...do not shove me again. I won't take kindly to abuse from humans." Glancing to Schuyler, he felt bad hurting her, "And I don't need your sympathy!" His blue eyes glittered with fresh tears as he turned away and disappeared into the crowd.

Kiel shuffled her away from the crowd and back towards the school. "Today must be hard for you... I didn't know him like you did. Or something... He seemed much more interested in you, Tori. Maybe you could do with some sleep."

Kallai and Kyrios snarled at each other, interrupting Uriel's recitation. "You wanna say that again, you dirty, lowlife?! Brother never allowed that, what makes you think we're going to stand by and let you do something so stupid?!" Kyrios stood quietly by and let his sister vent. "Because...I have the answers. Yves never told us anything about what he discussed with Father, why should we assume the roles of blank slates and continue doing something that we don't even know about? I say we change this and do things our way." Kallai's blonde hair ruffled in the wind, "You mean your way." she snarled and Kyrios shrugged, petting Nana's head.

Micheal stared down at the funeral for his young brother. Though older in status, and younger in years, Yves had never pulled rank on him and with them down there he smiled freely. It was a curious thing for him to do. The High Court Seraph that rarely smiled before had smiled plenty on Earth. Glancing over, he watched Yves staring at a girl in the mortal world. The one he'd chosen as his heir. "Before you ask...I'm not feeling nostalgic. I simply don't know if she can handle everything. Usagi is late with my message...and I fear something terrible will happen if Kaila gives Kadaj only half the spell. Perhaps..." he turned hopeful golden eyes on his brother and was rejected.

 

With both hands on her hips, schuyler turned to face penny, glowering at him.
"what was that?! I was over here trying to be a nice person, because that's who I am. And you walk over like you own me? Newsflash: you don't. We barely even know each other. And that wasn't cute."
She stormed passed him and back towards the school.

Tristan had to cover his mouth so that no one would hear him laugh. He saw the whole thing fro, where he stood and found it hilarious how stupid penny made himself look. He walked over to him and gave penny a pat on the back.
"smooth. Looks like you don't have a date anymore."

Tori looked up at kiel with puffy red eyes as they walked inside.
"sleep sounds good."

Kaila had been studying the speel for so long, she had eventually memorized it. Even though she didn't understand most of the language, she managed to commit every word on that paper to memory. It gave her an idea. Not a great one, but one that would help everyone else. Even if it meant sacrificing herself.

 

Penny frowned, "Did I do something wrong here? Does nobody else feel that weird feeling around that guy, like he might do something drastic at any second?" He pulled on his shirt sleeve and shook his head, "I sure as hell hope she doesn't cancel...there's still the possibility she'll give me a second chance. C'mon, Tristan, be a pal and help a guy out. That guy just...gives me a weird feeling."

Kiel brought her to her room, restricting himself to not even placing a toe across the threshold of her room. "You'll call me if you need anything, alright? I'm going to head to my room for a shower and a change of clothes..."

Kadaj impatiently waited at the edge of the scorched medow for Kaila. He dug his boot into the charred grass and Nero busied himself with plucking the student's hair out one by one.

 

Kaila conjured up a small ball of fire in her hand and used her free one to pick up the old piece of paper. She held it by the corner as she dipped it into the flames. Kaila watched as the flames lapped it up until it was just a pile of ash on her desk. She stood, noticing the setting sun and made her way to the woods, and finally the destroyed meadow.

Tori nodded and found it weird kiel didn't come inside.
"is something the matter?"
She yawned as she thought about how he fell asleep in here the night before and now was restricting himself to the hallway.

Tristan sighed and gave penny a light punch in the arm as he walked off in the direction schuyler went.
"only 'cause you look desperate. Which makes zero sense."
He waved goodbye and started running after the silver-haired angel. Tristan found her sitting on a bench just outside the doors.
"schuyler hey! I figured you'd already be inside, then I probably never would have found you. This place is huge. Schuyler is a pretty cool name by the way. Only ever heard someone with it one other time. How do you spell it? They spelled it s-k-y-l-a-r."
He noticed her glaring at him and figured it wasn't a good sign.
"not the same huh? Well anyway---"

Schuyler uncrossed her arms and grabbed tristan, shaking him.
"please shut up. I know why you're here and I'm not going to keep my date with that jerk. Better to know what he's like now than later. I was only trying to be nice to genesis, because everyone else is mean to him and your friend walks over all possesive. It was wrong. He had no right to act that way."

Tristan agreed with her, but at least had to try.
"you're right. And he feels bad about it. He really wants you to give him a second chance. He just has a bad feeling about wingy is all. Come on, he really likes you. For whatever reason, sorry but you're just a little too perky for me."

Schuyler groaned as she took tristan's hand to stand up.
"fine. But if any of what just happened is repeated it's over."
She noticed tristan smile as they walked back over to penny.
