Angelic Divinity

Tristan stepped outside and waited for penny to follow after so he could lock the door.
"so why don't you go by penn or something? I know you always get picked on for your name so why not have something more masculine or use your middle name. A lot of people do that now-a-days."

Tori's face contorted as kiel spoke.
"no. There is not a face on the back of shane's head."
She looked at the others to make sure they weren't seeing anything either.

Kaila sighed as she followed him into the classroom and shut the door behind them.
"good morning students. I am professor camponella. Welcome to magic class. Do to recent events there has been a change in lesson plans. We are going to be working on introductory defensive magic. Seraphim ammitai will be joining us today."
She walked around the room and flicked her wrist making it so everyone's books were out and opened to the right page. She noticed a few students jump in their seats and actually start to pay attention.
"good. I'm glad you're all focused. Any questions?"

"no. I did not want to pose."
Giselle turned back around and rested her head on her hand, staring out to the woods. She wanted to be out there taking pictures of animals and trees rather then in school having some stranger take her picture without asking.

 

Penny laughed and bounded out the door, his green eyes darkening as he squinted against the sun, "There is enough problems I have than my name. And I suppose if anybody wanted, they could call me Pen or anything else they wanted to. I really don't care. A lot of people just call me Grimm anyways." He started off down the road, rolling his shoulders as he walked toward the forest. Glancing back he suppressed a smile, "My parents were high when they named me. My middle name is Cloud."

Kiel sighed, "That's...good. I'd hate...for everyone...to become weird on me..." Shoving himself up, he forced himself to stand still, "Can I be excused?" Yves growled, "No, sit down Zadkiel." Obeying, Kiel dropped back into his chair and touched his forehead to his desk.

Yves' face didn't hold the friendly smile he normally had. He looked rather pained. "If there are no questions....then can anyone tell me the best way to deflect this?" In his hand, a ball of flickering light jumped around and revolved around his open palm.

Genesis lost his smile, "Well, damn, then what is your problem?" A black spike gage in his ear warmed and he jerked his head sideways, "Hey, whatever, it's not my problem." Seraph Kyrios assigned him to simply get pictures, but when one wouldn't show up and the other wasn't even in school...he was having a difficult time finding them.

 

As yves instructed the students, kaila picked up a clipboard off of the desk. She skimmed through the roster taking a silent note of everyone that was there. When she got to one name in particular, she stopped.
"where's genesis?"
She looked up at the students seeing that he was absent from the first magic class of the year.

Tristan tried not to laugh but it was bursting through the seems in his lips.
"penniphilicious cloud grimm? Pfftt ha!"
He couldn't help himself.
"that's awful. To think I always hated my name. Nobody names their kid tristan anymore. Tristan abbadon perry. Abbadon is the angel of destruction by the way. Created by lucifer in hell. After the angels had fallen. Bound to his twin azreal the angel of death. Talk about cryptic. Not like I believe those stories though."

Schuyler was flipping through her book trying to find the right answer but she wasn't having any luck.

Tori had been starting at kiel when kaila spoke. She hadn't noticed it til then, but the jerk genesis was missing. It was weird since she had just seen him at breakfast. She figured he was probably ditching. It seemed to be in his nature.

Giselle ignored genesis as she stared out the window. Now she just couldn't wait for homeroom to be over so she wouldn't have to see him. She really hoped he wasn't in any of her classes.

 

Yves cracked a tight smile, "Genesis Rhapsodos is on a mission by Seraph Kyrios. He will be back by second period." and sent the flickering orb flying towards Kiel. Tired, the boy lifted a hand and caught it like a baseball in his palm. "Not funny, sir." Yves' smile spread, "Very good, Zadkiel. You won't find these answers in a textbook, Schulyer. Each angel must seek them in their bones and hearts. A Luminecent Orb is nothing but solid light. Eager to escape and light the way through the darkness. That is the purpose of it. But...with the slightest tinge of anger, that orb will become something destructive. You must be careful that your emotions do not play a part of opposition in what you want to cast."

Kiel crushed the flickering orb in his hand and sat up a bit more.

Penny gave a half smile and growled as they made it to the forest, "You don't believe in angels?" He started shifting aside logs for Tristan.

Genesis slung his bag over his shoulder as the bell rang for the short homeroom to be over and jumped up, "Well, I'm off. PSEO classes start now so I'll see you," he nodded at Allen, "Later."

 

Kaila checked a box next genesis's name for excused. Since he was on official seraphim business she couldn't punish him. She took missing class seriously. Especially when it's the first one of the year.
"he's right about that."
She nodded at yves.
"magic requires full focus. It can't be ninety percent focus and ten percent 'I wonder what's for dinner.' If you don't put your entire attention into it awful things can happen. Magic isn't something to mess with. All magic comes with a price."

Schuyler felt stupid that she didn't know the answer. She always knew the answer. She liked to know the answer.

Tori watched as kiel extinguished the ball of light. She was impressed, but tried not to show it.

Tristan shrugged.
"I believe in karma, do good things good things happen. I've always been a pretty nice person. I just want to be content. Ya' know? Which is why I didn't understand the reason as to why all these bad things are occurring. It doesn't make sense."
He sighed as they got close to the woods.

Giselle got up to walk to history. She glad to know she wouldn't have to see that boy that day.

 

Sora had hopes that if he racked his brain hard enough that he would fine the answer, sadly he found none. So he decided to wait until someone else answered the question.

Considering that when the books flew open his had smacked him in the face, Shane didn't really have much of a choice to pay attention.

Once the bell rang, Allen got up and headed for his music class.

 

Giselle entered the history room as the bell was ringing. She took her seat in the back of the room. She noticed genesis leaving through the window. She didn't understand what his deal was. Randomly showing up for homeroom one day and then leaving right away. Giselle sighed as she pulled out her notebook and textbook.

 

Yves and Kiel glowered at each other for a moment before the Seraph lifted all six of his wings, "Well, Nephilim, is that all you know? Perhaps...something stronger will open your mind and teach those around you why we do this." He didn't wait for Kiel to answer as he tossed him a steel sword he'd pulled from his robes. "Defend your classmates...if you can." The room went white for a moment, blinding everyone. When it cleared, Kiel stood in front of Tori, the sword tosses aside and his back singed. Out from his back, two small black wings protruded. He closed his eyes in pain for a moment, "Ow..."

Penny laughed as he found a semi-clear path for them to walk along. "Those things have to be connected somehow to the phone calls. Y'know what I think? I think...somebody's been following us. Making bad things happen to us for some reason."

 

"that's enough!"
Kaila stepped in-between Kiel and Yves. She was proud that the boy finally got his wings, but she wasn't goin to allow this sort of behavior. It was there first day and danger or not, this was too much for them.
"I will not tolerate this behavior in my classroom. It is their first day and this is not Uriel's classroom and it is not merger day. I won't have you attacking my students with weapons. If you wish to participate in my lessons, you must at least follow my rules."
She turned to face Kiel and motioned for him to sit.
"Congratulations on finally getting your wings."
Her voice was stern and her eyes were steely. It looked as if Kaila was shooting flaming daggers from her eye sockets.

Tori and Schuyler sat there in awe. Neither of them could believe what. Just happened and now Schuyler was more afraid of Kaila then she was surprised that Kiel had just sprouted wings. She remembered when her wings came in. It was a lot like teething. They came in slowly over time and grew as she grew.

Tori didn't take her eyes off of Kiel's back. She couldn't believe what happened. They just appeared out of nowhere.

Tristan nodded and started walking into the woods.
"Yeah. I don't know it's all really weird. Do you actually think we're gunna make it out to that school? I've never heard of anyone making it out that far. Everyone gets lost or turned around."
he could see the towers of what looked like an ancient palace far off in the distance. He wondered what could possibly be out there.

 

Yves smiled and flung back his hood. Long black hair fell over his shoulders. Today he'd placed beads in his hair. Golden eyes warmly glittered from their place set in tanned skin. "I would've been much more impressed if your true power wasn't locked away and having you so stubbornly keeping it that way."

They all watched as Kiel's wings faded away, leaving behind a single black feather. Blinking rapidly, Kiel panted once and rested his hand on Tori's desk. "My apologies for what I said and did earlier today. I wasn't myself. The Seraph gave me a bath...rather unpleasant, but it helped." Cautiously sliding into his seat, Kiel winced as his bare back touched cold metal of the back of the chair.

Penny glanced back at him, his expression stern, "I'll get us there if it kills me." Continuing Penny grumbled to himself quietly.

Above, several sentry Angels stood watch in the trees. Each wearing black and camo colors to keep hidden. 'They're persistent...but it won't change our orders. Humans stay away from the school...' Angels of the Dark Court shifted in the shadows. It was their job to keep the creatures Kadaj unleashed at bay; whether or not the humans died was not their job.

 

Tori blinked and then dropped her head.
"Yeah sure Kiel. Forgiven."
She stared at the desk and couldn't wait for class to be over. Something felt off and she just wanted to get out of there.

Kaila stared at the door.
"You may all go. Class dismissed. "
She glanced up at the clock above the door. There was still thirty minutes left of class, but she didn't care.

"That's what I'm afraid of."
Tristan mumbled under his breath while they walked through the forest.
"Are you getting that 'being watched' feeling? I am."

 

Sora was in complete shock when Kiel had sprouted wings, while Shane finally picked his head up from his desk and payed attention until class was dismissed.

"And I was just getting interesting." He said under his breath.

 

Yves cast a wondering look at Kaila. "You know...if you don't teach them...the others will. And if I don't force them to defend themselves and learn...Kyrios will do it...in a much harsher way. I'm saving them from torment that Kyrios or Enan could put them through. Magic is my thing...the Summer Court is fighting. If we don't teach them the Dark Hunters will eat them alive!"

Kiel followed behind everyone until he spotted Genesis limping down the hallway, "Genesis...?!" Genesis grinned and limped past, gripping his camera tightly in his hands.

Penny pressed his back against a tree trunk and quickly glanced up into the treetops, "Yeah...I do. We'll have to be on our guard. Not only do animals live in these woods, I'm sure something far worse does too. Not saying I believe in monsters or anything...but that girl...she could live out here too." Remembering the woman in a dress outside Tristan's house, Penny felt in his pocket and pulled out a hunting knife.

Something rustled in the brush behind Tristan... A Dark Court angel lifted an arrow made out of his own magic. Another placed his hand on his arm, "Not around the humans...use a normal arrow." Snorting, he replaced his arrow and pulled back the drawstring tight. Releasing it with a 'twang' the arrow wizzed by and struck into a leaping deer... Dark Court angels shifted uncomfortably; the Summer Court Seraph wouldn't like it that they killed nature in vain. They glanced at eachother nervously and considered jumping down and grabbing the deer, arrow and the humans.

 

Kaila pointed towards the door.
"You're more then welcome to leave now ammitai. Just because I am not apart of the courts doesn't mean I have no clue as to how they work. I choose not to be. Enable has asked me more then once to join the winter court. I will prepare the children how I see fit. The dark hunters are the least of their worries."
She stood there angrily.

Tori stopped to look at Genesis.
"What happened to him? Is that a camera?"
She wasn't really talking to anyone in particular as they all walked through the hallway.

Schuyler walked up to Genesis.
"Are you okay?"
She placed her hand on his shoulder.

Tristan stopped as he watched the arrow penetrate the deer that had run out in front of them.
"Where...where did that...come from?"
He swallowed loudly in fear.

 

Yves glowered at her, "The Dark Hunters are the most concerning object in this. Without them, there would be no need for the students to have to learn to defend themselves. Unless...you still believe humans to be the largest obstacle for them to jump over. Human emotions will not play a part in this, Kaila." he huffed, even in anger, Yves couldn't be anything but gentle, "Enan... The Winter Court revolves around nothing but who it's next successor will be. Enan has no part in the human's lives! He pretends for the sake of luring in a successor! Enan is no better than the cold angels he commands." Calming himself, his wings folded against his back, "The Winter Court holds no angels in this school as its members. Enan is desperate to prove to our Father that the Winter Court is good for more than just existing as a polar opposite for the Summer Court."

Kiel shrugged, "Looks like he was attacked..."

Genesis painfully stopped in front of Schuyler, "I'm fine. I gotta...find Miss Uriel. She's gotta see these pictures. You should see the humans we have to protect. So far one guy and a girl...they're alright."

Penny gently tugged Tristan behind a tree and scouted the area. "I can't find anything. There's nobody in sight and yet...that arrow...it came down from the treetops. There's no way I'm climbing a tree to find out. I don't need falling from a tree to add to the list of awful things happening."

The Dark Court angels winced and cowered against the trees. Their commanding officer shooting needle glares at them. "Subtle..." he whispered.

 

There was pain in Kaila's eyes and voice.
"I promise you, the dark hunters are not the worst thing any of us should be afraid of. And as much as I dispise the humans, it is not them I am refering to."
She thought about the book. Kaila wasn't sure she could keep what she knew to herself, but she would have to try.

Tori looked away from Genesis as they walked around the hallway.
"Yeah, I guess..."
She stared at the floor as she walked.

Schuyler's eyes grew wide.
"You saw them? Is that why you missed class?"
She looked at the watch on her wrist. There was still plenty of time before the next class started.

Tristan stared up in the trees. The arrow had to come from somebody. There was no way it could have come from thin air. Nothing was making sense anymore.
"I don't understand what's going on."

Giselle sat in history quietly. She thought about the strange boy from homeroom as the teacher spoke.

 

Yves slumped into a desk and played with the sun crystal Uriel gave him. It's warmth was fading, "What do I do, Kaila.... I'm exhausted and no closer to finding a successor myself. Perhaps I should consult the Book...."

Genesis nodded, clicking through the pictures of the school and stopping at the pictures of Allen and Giselle, "Real piece of work the girl is. The Dark Court Seraph told me to go and even opened the barrier around the school for me to leave and come back. The town is alright, kinda normal but those humans...there's something special about them. I could just feel it!"

Penny shuffled Tristan along, keeping watchful green eyes on the trees.

As soon as the humans left, the Dark Court angels jumped down and pried the arrow from the deer. "Next time you screw up, I'm reporting it to Lord Kyrios. Our job is serious. So treat it that way." The angels shifted into black crows and fluttered away to scan the area.

 

Kaila's eyes grew wide as she sat down in a chair next to the old seraph. He used to look quite lively when she encountered him, but now age was catching up with him. His years were starting to show and there was no more prolonging it.
"This book...it wouldn't happen to be in the basement would it? With a spell to unleash the ultimate evil inside it?"
Kaila had difficulty swallowing. There was a lump in her throat the size of a tennis ball and the fact that she told Yves only made it grow tenfold.

Schuyler looked at the pictures in wonderment.
"Well I'm sure they wouldn't have us risk our lives for anything less then special. "
She studied the picture of the girl.
"It's strange...she looks so familiar. What's her name?"

Tristan's eyes didn't leave the trees. He didn't want to end up like that deer. It was starting to scare him. Nothing made sense anymore.
"Are you freaking out yet?"

Giselle tapped her finger on the desk impatiently. History wasn't going fast enough. It was everything she was aware of. Her geography class was studying Greece. She knew all the myths and legends. Along with all the geographical landmarks.

 

Yves nodded slowly, "Mm it is...I suppose Uriel told you about it. It would be typical of her to keep a close eye on the Book. I've heard she consults it twice a week." he chuckled, "I'm sure the Book is irritated with the constant attention."

Genesis frowned a moment, "Oh yeah, it was Giselle. Do you think...you know her?"
"It's highly doubtful as Schuyler is an angel and Giselle is a human being. Angels do not know humans. Be it before the change or after. Our memories of humans is fleeting and doesn't last very long at all." Kyrios' voice echoed from the darkness before he stepped out of the shadows. His white suit as usual, bearing a black neckscarf tucked into it and the familiar yellow head of the yellow python draped around his shoulders. Genesis stiffened and turned slowly, bowing low, "Ah, Sir! I'm glad to see you. I was about to go looking for you."

Penny yanked a heavy stick from the ground and swung it hard. It stopped mid swing against a pair of large purple hands. Penny's green eyes widened as he followed thin purple arms to a white bubble with a single swirling red dot revolving around in the whiteness. "What the hell?! Tristan, RUN!"

 

Kaila patted Yves's hand.
"Y-yeah. Uriel told me about it. I've been growing curious and since I am the magic teacher, studying this ancient text would seem rather resourceful."
she wasn't sure how he would respond to that, but Kaila truly wanted someone to know. Even if they didn't have a clue as to what was really going on.

Schuyler continued to stare at the picture.
"No! I swear I know her from somewhere."
She became startled by the arrival of the dark seraph.
"Ah! Sir kryios."

Tristan threw his crutches down.
"Are you serious?! How am I supposed to run like this?!"
He did this hobbling jog thing that only led to Tristan tripping over a root sticking out of the ground.
"Augh! Seriously?! Gah!"
the landing hurt his arm and messed up his already damaged leg.
