schuyler smiled as diane sat down.
"yeah...yeah i did."
she pointed to the sore spot between her shoulder and her collar bone.
"but it's all right now. i was healed by one of the seraphim."
she took a bite out of a carrot while looking around the dining hall.
"so...where's your brother?"
it wasn't really james that she was looking, but felt the need to ask.

 

Once Sora had gotten to the dinning hall, he sat down at some random table and started ot eat.

That certainly was interesting. a voice said through Shane head.
Now you decide to talk. Shane replied to the angel inside him as he took a seat in the dinning hall. Where were you when it was going on in the first place.

 

schuyler was trying to be polite and nice to everyone, so when she saw sora sit down on the other end of the table she gave a quick small and wave to him. she didn't know who he was, but there was no better way to make friends than to just try and reach out. she then returned her gaze to diane awaiting a response. all schuyler could think about was finding her older brother. she still hadn't seen him anywhere and being up front at the assembly this afternoon seemed like the perfect opportunity to search for him in the crowd. unfortunately it hadn't turned out the way she planned. her eyes had combed over the entire student body multiple times, but not once did it ever end with a satisfactory turnout.

 

Noticing Schuyler wave at him, Sora gave a quick wave back before going back to his food.

What, can't I judt sit back and enjoy a good snow when I see one? The voice question.

No wonder you wanted to work together with me. Shane thought back.

 

Uriel smiled, "That's rather nice of you. I thank you for your help. Take care of him, Kaila. I know he cares for you a lot. I've never seen him so frustrated over a girl before. You must've gotten through to him over the years." She laughed and returned to her food, sipping at her wine. Uriel's brown eyes focused on the sloshing red liquid in her glass and socwled, 'Ice soldiers? Those belong to Enan....why would an ice soldier of his attack Ren? Something's not right about this.'

Kiel stared for a long time at Tori without saying a word. His face slowly turned red the longer he stared at her. "Ah, um...I'm...sorry, Tori. I was just worried. A guy has to try at least to help those in danger. Y'know?" Sanya tip-toed up to his bed and patted his bare shoulder. "You without a shirt on is nice, Kiel." Kiel's eyes widened at the young Professor and her tiny pale hand patting his skin. "Uh...wh-what? Miss Logos, I didn't see you. Ah...I'm...I'm sorry, I'd put my shirt on if I could reach it."

 

"I haven't seen him since music class." She said. She took out her ocarina and played a song.

kaila's face turned warm and a slight shade of pink.
"i truly doubt that."
she held onto the plate and drinks tightly as she turned to walk away. as kaila began to depart, she stopped and looked back over her shoulder towards uriel.
"oh! do you have any idea why there would have been an ice soldier inside the academy? i know there's barriers to keep monsters out, so i was rather baffled when i saw what was going on. to think a lowly ice soldier could have gotten in and somehow attacked one of our strongest teachers. quite odd..."

tori stared at kiel confused.
"why would i be in danger? i didn't run into the woods where an evil dangerous serpent was and get stabbed almost to death with a bunch of poisonous spikes."
tori chuckled from how embarrassed kiel had gotten after sanya spoke. she reached over him to grab his shirt and hand it to him.
"here you go."
she turned to speak with the nurse that was standing by.
"ma'am. if we keep an eye on him and make him ride in a wheelchair. is it safe for kiel to come down to dinner? i feel like he'll just keep fighting to get out of bed once we leave. that will be worse for his health than a ride down to the dining hall."

schuyler frowned. today wasn't turning out to be a very good one.
"i'm sorry to hear that."
she watched as diane pulled out her ocarina and started playing. the melody was soft and sweet. much better than anything she could ever do. schuyler was afraid she wouldn't be able to join the summer court officially since she couldn't play any instruments. music is a huge deal for them and not being able to play would reflect poorly.
"that's beautiful diane. you're really quite wonderful."

Uriel frowned at her glass instead of looking up at Kaila, "I'm not sure. Something's not right about this at all...I'll...have to get back to you about this Kaila. Honestly I have no idea what's going on either..." Uriel closed her eyes, The Seraphim must know something...it would've been better had they not gone home for the night. Enan is not here to discuss this with...only...Kyrios... I'm not discussing anything with that revelry-addict.

Kiel shrugged on his shirt and nodded, encouraging the Nurse to agree with Tori's claims. "Fine...but no moving around too much. Professor Logos will stay here with me while you two get dinner and we'll start constructing the antidote for you. Slayer's spines are dangerous. You're lucky you're not dead already." Kiel gave her a sarcastic smile, "Thanks a lot." He'd started sweating again and flung his legs over the side of the bed. "Can we go before I start eating a person? Or this nightstand?" His stomach growled in agreement.

kaila sighed in exasperation.
"all right. if it turns out this was enan's doing after the conversation i had with him, he will be in a heap of trouble. no other seraphim will be able to stop my wrath. just saying."
she turned back to face the doorway and head to her room. ren would probably be thawed by now. maybe even walking up.
as she entered her room, she could feel the warmth from the fireplace wrap around her like a warm embrace. all the different spices and herbs she had burning created a smoky vanilla scent in the room. she smiled endearingly as she set the food and drinks down on a table.

tori brought a wheelchair over to kiel's bedside and helped lower him into it.
"quit complaining. we'll be back soon. after mister hungry-pants has had his fill."
she smiled down at him as she walked behind the wheelchair to grab the handles and wheel him to the dining hall.

 

Uriel hid her smile, "I wouldn't bet....Enan is in a lot more trouble than he knows."

Ren watched Kaila set down food and drinks. This throat felt like ice daggers were shoved down it and his entire body was wet. "Your rooms smell like you. I'm glad you made it your own. I'm grateful you came when you did." his voice rasped out as he shifted in his chair. "Would you....do me a favor and help me pop my shoulder back in place?" He gestured to his limp left arm. Ren's yellow eyes appraised her and a slight smile quirked his lips up. "I promise I won't scream."

Kiel laughed, "You sound like my mother. Sheesh... But thanks for coming to get me anyways. I thought she was gonna starve me to death. I'd say I feel great if I didn't start breaking out in cold sweats every now and then." He grinned up at Tori and folded his arms, massaging his shoulder. From behind it was clear his fingers came close to digging into a hole left from the Slayer's spine.

 

kaila smiled as she walked over to ren and grabbed ahold of his arm.
"you can scream a little. ready?"
before he would have time to react twisted it and popped it back into place. she smiled playfully as she waited for some sign of pain. there was no way anyone could go without feeling the pain of relocating their limbs. even if ren didn't scream, his face would surely contort into a painful fashion.
she walked back over to the table and picked up the coffee mug, bringing it closer to ren. kaila used her free hand to grab both of his, wrapping them around the mug so that he would drink the warm beverage.
"you have to be famished by now. especially after all of today's excitement. i'll be right back."
she walked into her bathroom and grabbed a long full-length navy blue silk robe and brought it back out to ren.
"here. i know it's not much, but put this on til your clothes are dry. i'll hang them above the fireplace to dry quicker. you'll catch a cold at minimum if you continue to sit there in those wet clothes. i wouldn't be surprised if you haven't already contracted something."
she tossed the robe in his lap as she sat back down by the table.

tori rolled her eyes in a playful manner.
"oh relax. look we're almost there."
ahead they could see the doors of the dining hall open and the rest of the school inside eating and talking.

 

Ren closed his eyes as she snapped his arm back in place. He was used to it by now, but still his teeth gritted. "Thanks...but you intend to watch me undress?" His smile was small even as he spoke, his powers held the warm coffee aloft as he reached for the torn bottom of his shirt with one hand and the buckle of his pants with the other. "At least my arm works now, you shouldn't have gone through so much trouble to do all this for me." Chucking his wet shirt to the floor, Ren reached for his drink.

Kiel chuckled. His mouth started to water as he smelt the food. "I don't think I've ever been this excited for food in my life."

 

"Thanks. I hope to join the summer court eventually." She said. "I had bettr go feed hurricane" she said as she left to the dorm. "See you" She told schuyler.

James approached Schuyler after his sister left. "You, Schuyler." he said. "Where'd she get that Ocarina?" He asked fiercely

 

kaila laughed as ren tossed his soaked shirt on the ground. she walked over to pick it up and turned around to hang it above the hearth.
"no ren. i'm not planning on watching you change. if you can't make it to the bathroom to take your clothes off i'll just keep my back to you like this until you're in the robe."
she sighed as she stared into the flames.
"it's no trouble at all. i enjoy caring for people. so...why were you outside my classroom? you don't usually come knocking unless it's to yell for whatever reason. so what have i done now to upset you? or were you just coming to remind me about how i am supposed to patrol with sanya later tonight, because you made that very clear this morning. i am aware of my duties."
she crossed her arms and didn't take her eyes off of the fire. the flames flickered like they each had their own story to tell. dancing in colors of red, orange, and yellow up top; and blue, green, and white at the bottom. fire was always something that enticed her, even though her specialty was water.

tori laughed as she wheeled kiel up to a table. she noticed genesis still sitting where he was when she left, so she went to a table on the other side of the room. tori hoped he wouldn't come following after.
"here you go."
the tables never stopped amazing her. how they were always just loaded with food was incredible.
"bon apetite"
she walked around the table so that she could sit across from kiel. it was easier to have a conversation if you could see the person you were talking to.

schuyler waved to diane as she went to leave.
"yeah. see you upstairs."
she was caught off guard as james came storming up to her.
"excuse me?"
she could tell he was angry, but didn't really understand why. it was just a fancy flute/harmonica type thing.
"how am i supposed to know? she's your sister. i hadn't ever seen it until just now. in music she said she knew how to play one, but i've only seen it now. why do you expect so much from me? i've known your sister for a day and yet you keep coming to me for answers. what's your deal?"

 

Ren watched her. Sliding on the robe she'd given him he hung his pants and trying to avoid the awkwardness, his boxers with them. "No...I wanted to apologize. I was a fool to yell at you over something so stupid. It's idiotic of me. And...I wanted to fill you in on the rest of stuff Uriel knows but doesn't know." He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her back against him, "The Dark Court has associations with humans with half Nephilim blood. They aren't considered Nephilim because they carry so little of the blood. They're the Silent Brothers. A group that probes the minds of the Dark itself. Kyrios is in charge of it, but I've seen them. Nothing else is known. I'd say you could meet them but..." he buried his face in her shoulder, "You can't unless you're a member of the Dark Court."

Kiel snatched food and ate it as soon as he could reach it. "That kid...what's-his-name....the rude one from class before. He hasn't bothered you lately has he? I noticed he liked you when we met him. I don't like that kid." Swallowing, Kiel rubbed at his back again. "My back itches like crazy...."

 

kaila was taken aback by ren's sudden embrace. her face felt on fire and it wasn't from the heat of the flames. there was warmth on her back where he wrapped himself around her and nuzzled into her shoulder. it was becoming difficult for her to keep her cool. never in the entire time had they known each other had kaila and ren ever been this close. every fiber in her being was standing on ends from the electricity that was flowing within her. he was apologizing. not many heard apologies from ren. there was sincerity in his voice as he spoke.
"you're not...you're not asking me to join the dark court are you? i've had enough invitations to join the courts today. ren..."
she said his name in a whisper as she turned around in his arms. the silk felt nice against her skin.
"i've heard enough of nephilim today. you and enan both are wearing me out. i won't help. my decision has already been made."
she would have backed away from him if it hadn't meant backing into the fire.

tori rolled her eyes.
"i'd rather not talk about him."
she watched how quickly he ate his food.
"what does it matter anyway who does and doesn't like me? which i doubt that kid does by the way. why would someone be so rude if they were interested right off the bat?"
she wanted to reach out and grab a roll but was afraid a hand might disappear in the process. tori swatted his hand away from his back.
"don't do that! do you have any idea how many holes are in your back right now? i wouldn't touch it until your nurse says otherwise."

 

Even from where Sora was sitting, he cpuld clearly hear James and Schyler arguing. Wonder what all the fuss in about.

Finally reaching a table, Shane sat down and started to eat.

 

Ren wanted to hold onto her for a moment longer, but he could hear the annoying voice in his head whispering that she was his. Letting go of Kaila, Ren turned away, "No...I'd never ask you to join the Dark Court...it's...not a good place. Not even I like it there." He sat on the edge of her bed and massaged his hurt wing. "I suppose you have heard enough about the Nephil..." He watched her and sighed, "I know you probably want me to leave....but without my clothes, I can't go anywhere." Jumping up, Ren hovered over the food, picking through it and munching on bits of fruit and meat. He was quiet for a long time before giving her a quizzical look, "You said Enan. Has Enan asked you to join the Winter Court? He's spoken to you about Nephilim? Could it be...could he possibly know already?" His thoughts dominated his expression, leaving him slightly unresponsive.

Kiel shrugged, "Whatever you say." He would've laughed if his mouth wasn't full of food. Oh, hey, y'know what'd be fun? Going into town." He refered to the mortal town south of the school. A clear road through the forest led straight to it. The lights could be seen sometimes from the buildings through the forest trees. "C'mon, I heard they're having a festival soon. I don't remember what for, but it sounds like fun, right?" His blue eyes were bright as he spoke feverishly about the town.
