    Angel need help on face.

As you can see, the face is hideous. Can someone help me? I am usually quite good at faces but the nose is really bad and so are the lips because I wasn't working with an actual image, just an idea. Also, I realised halfway through doing it that doing the wrincles on the fingers was a really bad idea.

Yeah, the wrinkles on her fingers are quite bleh. D: Plus they look stubby, the fingers are supposed to be much longer.

I was a bit lazy and took it upon myself to do a basic guide of how the face is structured, with your picture. Hope you don't mind.

Basically everything is supposed to be symmetrical. The end of the chin should meet with the vertical line accross the face. The middle of the mouth should meet with the vertical line. Same goes with the nose. As for the eyes, the space in between them is the same size as the eye itself.

There ya go! Hope that helps ya some.

Thanks giiiiiiiiirlz. Is the space between not meant to be the same size as the eye its self?

It is supposed to be the same size as the eye itself! Here, I made an example just so we're clear on the matter.

I know the eyes aren't perfect but I think everything else is fine.

Well, the 2nd version looks better. But you can still do minor adjustments to make it even better. :> Here are my suggestions:

Make sure that you have proper tools to work with, because it will make all the difference. A mechanical pencil (HB, something like 02-05mm) is very thin, and the lead is exactly like in the pencils you normaly use for writing. For tiny or light details this is a good choice of tool. Have pencils that become softer in the lead, that will darken the lines. (2B, 4B, 6B etc - the higher number the softer and darker) It's extremly importaint to always use a sharpener (or knife, we used those in art class) to always keep the pencils sharp - at all times! If the point gets too soft it will create a grainy effect instead, you might notice that. NEVER use your fingers to rub on the drawing, it will only create ugly smudges - use the pencils to cross shade instead.

Well that was technique... Now anatomy.

Well the face looks much better, but I would want to see more added on the skull itself - imagine adding a soccer ball standing where the eyes' red line started. Draw that circle there. One rule I learned was that the eye help line is ALWAYS in the center, both horizontal and vertical, which means the top of the head should have more of the skull. The human ear is usually the same hight as the eyebrows to the tip of the nose, so make another horizontal helping line that barely bows to the head's shape from the nose and eyebrows to get the ears' positions right. (as giiiiiiirlz mentioned the body is symmetrical very often)

The hands also look better without the wrinkles they had earlier, but they still look flat. I get a tiny impression that they're twisting outwards and are not relaxed. When you draw hands you need to imagine how the bones and joints will be built up like, use real hands and practice on drawing them. They're very tricky to get right so it'll take many tries. *I myself can't quite get them right most of the times*

If you want more tips on anatomy and techniques you can take a look at the links listed in the sticky thread in this section. It's called tutorials and is a step by step guide on how to work with something.

yea, I lost a lot of my good drawing pencils because people stel them. I only have an F left I used a HB to draw it. I actually find that rubbling helps but only when using tone to make it look more even of when creating shadow. I will take the anatomy in to account on my next drawing which will be of a fairy (because I am un-origional and am doing Iolanthe) but I did enjoy doing the hair and I hope you liked that.

p.s. If anyone thinks that this merits colouring then they have my permissiong to do so.

That ^ Cowboy Clucky was not good CnC, or whatever she's looking for.

Actually, it's alot better than what i can draw (of real people). I'll try to give you some tips, but don't get mad at me if they seem off or not what you were looking for... lol. And excuse any absences of 'o's, my keyboard is being stupid.

The eyes are much better in the second version. She looks very serene. But her nose is bothering me...... I don't know how to put this.... I think it looks kinda Squiward-y, no offense meant. Maybe you should try drawing nostrils, and shade where the bridge of the nose would be...? [IMG]

That was the best forward-facing pic i could find. It's from the same perspective as your drawing, i thought it would help....? Sorry if any of that seemed rude or blunt. It is a rather good drawing. *Jealous of your ability to draw real people*
