Nikki took him up in the elevator. She used the key to take Jon to the penthouse apartment.

"We're home now. Make yourself at home. Would you like a drink or something to eat? You can stay as long as you like. You do know about the meeting of the new gods later today?"

 

"Yeah,but I'm not goin'"

 

"I should hope not, you're an old god. There will be hundreds there including their leader. I have a visitor coming. He is a new god and also my friend. You will not harm him, please."

 

MR. Wheeler's car was on the freeway, with Mr. Wheeler inside it, happily listening to his music. He wondered whether anyone else would be there or not. And what of the third god that Nikkie had mentioned...

Mr. Wheeler's car was at the exit in almost no time. He would be there son.

 

Nikki made Jon comfortable. She then went back to the elevator and returned to the lobby. There she sat down and awaited Mr. Wheeler's arrival. She would feel happier when she saw him.

 

Mr. Wheeler;s car exited the freeway and drove itself into a really fancy-looking downtown area.

"Nikkie lives here?" Mr. Wheeler said out loud. Most of the old gods had either gone into hiding or mingled with the working class citizens. But Nyx lived in this neighbor hood. MR. Wheeler didn't give it much thought. She hadn't been killed yet, and that was what counted.

Mr. Wheeler's car parallel parked itself about a block away from Nikkie's apartment. Mr. Wheeler turned the car out and stepped out.

 

Nikki put the magazine down as she sensed Mr. Wheeler approaching. She was glad that he had come. She tried to be calm and smiled at the concierge. She wondered what he would make of her home. He probably lived somewhere much grander. She hid in plain sight. 'If you don't expect it, you don't see it.' she thought to herself.

 

zaris senced a god in nikki's apartment.........

''o crud''

zaris then ran to the apartment and grabbed jon..........

''bac off her!''

 

MR. Wheeler walked into the lobby, and saw Nikkie sitting there. He almost couldn't believe he had actually gotten here without dying.

"I haven't had any attempts on my life yet. How have you been?"

 

"Worried about you mainly. I could sense a solar god. Zaris & I went to a concert, as large crowds offer good protection. Please come up to the apartment, I feel safer there. Zaris is out, but Jon is there."

Nikki hoped Jon would behave civilly to Mr Wheeler. She did not want her apartment turning into a battle ground with her being in the middle.

 

Teleports him and Zaris to the roof.Knees Zaris in the gut."Back off!"

 

'I think you should stop fighting, Jon. I have a visitor.'

Nikki cringed when she thought what Mr. Wheeler would make of the pandemonium. She wanted to introduce them as friends.

 

"You sensed Saule? I don't think he means any harm at the moment. He works for the god i don't want to upset, but he doesn't like her. I think he's trying to gain leverage over her.

By the way, who did you go see?"

Mr. Wheeler couldn't help wondering what Saule was doing. Was he reporting to her? WHat were his goals?

 

"I just sensed solar power with you. I don't trust this Saule. We went to see Linkin Park. It was great, but we left just before the end to make sure that we were safe. I came straight back here. Welcome to my humble home."

Nikki showed Mr. Wheeler into her apartment.

 

There were a lot of words that popped into Mr. Wheeler's head when he looked at Nikkie's apartment. Humble was not one of them.

"This is nice. Most of the new gods don't live in places like this."

MR. Wheeler noticed Zaris wasn't here. "So what happened to zaris after the concert?"

 

zaris shot a fire ball at jon......

''ur so weak act like the god of death u r!''

 

"He went out after the concert and left me here. Getting into trouble no doubt. That boy needs to learn some sense quickly. Would you like something to eat or drink? I have plenty in. Please, make yourself at home. Do you live in one of the houses uptown?"

 

"Actually, i live in an apartment uptown. It's alright, but not nearly as nice as this. So have you lived in LA for a while, or did you just move here?"

 

"I haven't been here long, so I don't really know anyone. I don't have many friends. I'm sure your apartment is a lot nicer than this. It's all I could find at the time. There's a gym and a swimming pool as well, so I can keep fit at home. I work from home mainly."

Nikki showed Mr. Wheeler into the main lounge. There was a plasma TV and a panoramic view of the city.

"Please be comfortable."
