Link me to a good site for a guitar noob to learn the basics.

    YouTube

But in all seriousness I haven't looked anything up and I'm practicing guitar right now. It's easy to learn stuff by ear and tabs are AMAZINGLY easy. Look up some tabs and you'll get the hang of it quick.

I did however look up bass instructions on YouTube though to see proper positioning. You don't need much more than that to get playing for either instrument.

    haha you're funny.

Well my guitar is horribly out of tune and the strings are old as **** and need replacing, and learning by ear sounds hard as crap anyway. And tabs sound hard >.>

That's easy enough to fix, just look up the sounds of each of the notes of the strings. Or just search "guitar tuning" on YouTube.

TAB's are easy. The lines represent the strings, and the numbers represent the frets. They work like this:

    E-----------------
    B--1--------------
    G-----------------
    D--2--------------
    A--3--------------
    E-----------------

Think of it as being the fretboard flipped upside down so the highest string is on top, and the lowest string is on bottom. This is the TAB notation for the C major chord. You'd hit the first fret on the second string (B), second fret on the forth string (D), and the third fret on the fifth string (A). The only problem with TAB's is that they don't show rhythm, so you need to know the rhythm of the song you're playing the TAB for beforehand.

    Go to my school

Srs though, first thing you need to tell us is your knowledge in music, like if you already know the treble and bass notes, time signatures, the parts of the guitar, etc.

I looked up some online tuning thing and still can't get it right. Could have something to do with the strings not being replaced for 7 years =T

But thanks for the explanation on tabs. That kinda helped

I know it has 6 strings and I just learned what a fret is.

The neck is the thing with the frets on it. That should help a bit. You should keep your thumb behind the neck while playing, as to allow your fingers to spread out more. Also, when hitting frets, use only your fingertips so you don't hit other strings.
