The original Alice in Wonderland was pretty dark wasn't it? AT least darker than the Disney version. So it's not that much of a stretch.

Hmmm....Burton is my favorite director, but his remakes are

usually his weakest films, but I had doubts about Sweeney

Todd and I've happily watched it like 10 times.

Also, isn't he making this with Disney? So, although it'll be

darker, don't expect American McGee's Alice (which is also

being made into film in 2010)

It is. I read it on the Internet Movie Database forums (no I do not frequent it) and I believe it was confirmed by Burton. It's not too much of a surprise -- it certainly explains why the Mad Hatter looks so young and Alice looks so old.
It sounds like you're speaking from the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland, when Burton will be basing his movie off of the two novels, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. The books, while following the journey of a young child, certainly had some rather dark undertones. And The Nightmare Before Christmas isn't an emo movie to any extent, it just has a very large following in the emo scene.

This is exactly what I was going to say. The Disney Alice was not like the books. The books had it's share of demented moments. That is why I think Tim Burton will do good.

Honestly I'm glad there making the movie :

I'm going to bump this instead of creating another thread, because today the USA Today released some pics from the movie, also discussing it and such. Prepare to be creeped.

I really liked the Leaked set-shot of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, but that official thing just looks off.

Oh boy, this is going to be awesome. He's always got pretty dark stuff, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

    *looks up actors on IMDb*

Um...am I the only one who finds it weird that the girl playing Alice is nineteen? She looks excellent for the role, but maybe a little old.

Well, this kills me inside. How ridiculous. But the photos look nice.

Yeah, I think Alice looks a bit old too. Because of the chaotic nature of Alice in Wonderland, though, perhaps they thought a young child couldn't portray her well?

@Shades: Anne Hathaway's character is the White Queen, and the 'Queen of Hearts' is really the Red Queen. It looks like this adaptation will be much closer to the novel, and if I remember correctly (it's been at least two years since I last read the novel) Alice gets stuck on a 'living chessboard' at one point, and gets caught up between the two queens. I don't remember exactly though. .__.

Thanks for the clarification, never really read the novels so that's why I wasn't sure.

    THis movie seems incredibily trippy
Well it's not her first trip to Wonderland
She's returning so of course she'd be older...but 19 does seem a little too old. I figured 16 at the most

The books are excellent, you guys should definitely read them if you haven't.

I'm very disappointed at where this movie is going. :/ I'm really hoping to be proven wrong though.

Also why didn't they make Anne Hathaway's eyebrows match her hair? >|

It looks amazing. I cannot wait. Is it like return to wonderland if she's not going for the first time. I've not heard much about it.

Misty's plot spoilers have made me lose of the interest I had for this movie. I, too, hope that we're wrong on that. I still want to see how dark this can get though. The darkest version of an Alice sequel I've seen (well played actually) is American McGee's Alice. Let's see if Burton can compete with that.

I'm not much a fan of re-makes but if it's Tim Burton then it's all goood. xD
I've been wanting to read the book for some time but every time I hear it's in it's never in. xD (probably stolen)

I read the first one, but never got around to Through the Looking Glass. And yeah, I forgot, of course Alice would be older...but nineteen? Seriously now, Alice's young age was part of what made this whole acid trip of a story so great.

In the first book doesn't she wake up and realize she just dozed off and wonderland was just a dream?
