Unlike my Sis who started the post I like Aerith better because it's pretty and Aeris was a mistranslation

There's always going to be pronounciation issues like that as long we continue to translate Japanese games.

I still prefer it as Aerith...it has a certain ring to it...

Me too. Saying Aeris is like someone who can't speak :P. Actually, it's just a mistranslation. When Japanese people speak Japanese, they'll add things onto the end of people's names like 'Cloud' will sound like 'Cloudo' and so on. I learned a little japanese and I listen to them. :D

Dude! Her name is Aerith! Aerith is the original name! Sure, Aeris might be the original one for JAPAN, but Aerith is the original one for AMERICA!!

Btw, all FF Fans and KH Fans would both say Aerith!!

Aerith is the original name and they use it for FF7!! It says it in the freakin' book!

Exactly, her name is Aerith. She's always been credited as Aerith (except in FF7, but that was a mistranslation). In Advent Children, in KH 1&2, and everything else she's been in.

    So yeah, it's Aerith.

Wow. I'm reviving a very dead thread. But the only reason I am is becuase I was going to make one myself but I searched for it first and found it already existed.

Anyway, I prefer Aeris. Aeris is what I saw while playing FF7 and Aerith doesn't seem right. It just sounds like you're trying to say Aeris with a lisp or something.

Every time I hear 'Aeris' I think 'the God of War', which is not what she is, so I'm going with Aerith.

Same here except, the name reminds me one of those three sisters. So I will continue to call her Aerith because it sounds cooler, I could also say it reminds me of Nariko from Heavenly Sword.

Not sure why people say "Aeris" is the original name. It isn't. Aerith was the Japanese name and the only reason it was switched to Aeris in the English version was because Sephiroth's name also ended in th in the English version while in the Japanese it was Sephirosu. So they did not want them to connect that well in the English version.

Saying that, I kind of do like Aerith more because I don't agree that Japanese names all the time need to be transferred to something more 'English' sounding to make us understand them. Also, Aeris reminds me of Ares, as someone else pointed out above. Aerith is original and smooth to say, and so to me it just sounds better. Some people seem to think it sounds like there's a lisp issue, but I think it sounds pretty.

I kinda just preferred Aeris. When I found out her name could also be Aerith, I was like: ...does it really matter?

Basically what Repliku says, to explain about the Aerith/Aeris name matter...but anyhow, Aerith sounds better to me. It just sounds better to me. :)
