Academic selection

in northern ireland we still, just, have academic selection but the government is getting rid of it on the grounds that it creates an unequal system and doesnt give everyone a fair chance. instead they are usuing 'postcode lotteries' ie the closer you are to the school the more chance you have of getting in. but i think that if you are good academically then you should go to a grammer school so that you will achieve your full potential, not be sent to the local secondary school were everything has been slowed down to cater for all the pupils. likewise, if you arent good academically it would be wrong to go to a grammer school just because you are close to it, because you would struggle and possibly fail at the end because of the level the courses are taught at. it would be much better to go to a secondary school where the teaching is at the right/speed.
also, i think that streaming classes is a good idea, working with the same principles as the previous paragraph.

I fully agree! At my old school I was in top sets but sometimes we had to have everything slowed down for those who couldnt keep up, its not fair on either set of pupils,

The ones who need extra help arent given it and those who need to be pushed further on aren't given the support and chance they deserve. Schools should cater for all types of students instead of just cramming kids into any school possible in a vague attempt to lessesn crowding. Lol sorry this is something I feel strongly about :o

 

Your right in America we go by area and it sucks I'm in Honors classes as they call them with total ******s and idiots. It is truly disconcerting.

 

Exactly! They should set in by ability and not location! My little sister has a slow learning ability but she never got the help she needed, man my school sucked!
