A way to defy gravity

If you got a metal pole
And then stood in a position as if you were sitting down
And then put the pole under your butt and jumped
And pulled as hard as you can, with enough force
Could you float in midair

When you lift your hand up from the keyboard, you are defying gravity.

You can stop any mass from falling with enough force, but your hand does not float when you lift it. You must continue to exert force to keep it from falling.

Gravity is an extremely weak force. Consider how easy it is to keep a feather in the air. Even a light breeze can keep it from falling. However, gravity applies equally to all mass.

Your body weighs much more than your hand. Gravity will be exerting the same force that it was applying to every particle in your hand to every particle in your body. That tiny bit of force builds up quick with all of that mass. You will have to exert and keep exerting a large amount of force to keep yourself from falling.

You would not be floating if you did that because floating implies the force is nullified in the environment, which it is not.

 

So it IS possible, if youre force-exerting enough force

It's possible to counteract any force by exerting an equal and opposite force. Gravity is nothing special in that way.
