    I'm making an AMV using the Standard quality cutscenes here and for some reason Vegas 8 won't let me render anything in high definition. I don't know why it just makes the video all black and there are only two instances when the video shows for less than a second. I don't know what's up it was working fine before. Can anyone help?

    I wonder if it's actually something to do with the videos you're using yourself, because I use Windows Live Movie Makers, but I get that exact same problem. It's not all that often, but sometimes for any random video I'm trying to use it'll do exactly what you've got.

    I'm using the Standard videos in the cutscene archive. The .avi ones.

    Make sure you have the proper codecs installed. This site includes most of the ones you'll need.

    I believe that in Sony Vegas 8 and up, you don't have to install extra codecs in order to render in HD. (That's how it is in 10 and 11, at least)

    Alright, a few questions;

    Is the project itself in 1280 * 720 ? (If not, that may lead to issues while rendering.)

    What is your rendering settings and project settings? Can you post a screenshot showing it?

    Oh, to render. I need to read more slowly >.>

    Yeah, check the project settings and make sure they're set right for HD. Also, check your tracks to see if there are any edits where you accidentally blacked out some video and didn't set it back or something. And something I always do is click "I" at the beginning of the video, and click "o" at the end, and select all of the stuff you want rendered so its all highlighted when you're ready to render it.

    Remind me real quick where I can check that out. I haven't made videos in a while. I just did what I always do. Made the video stretch to fit aspect ratio. And... hold on a sec guys there are no codecs on my computer because I had to delete them to make these ones work and ugh I'll be back a 5. Alright we'll get to the problem in a second. I can't see any videos on my computer now. I installed that thing Hayabusa linked. Now I can't see any videos in Vegas at all. Help me with this first.

    EDIT: .wmv works in vegas. .avi now does not. It did. Does not now.

    That is odd...you might want to consider re-installing Vegas at this point if you can't see any video...I remember I had the problem before, but I forget how exactly I fixed it.

    You can change the project settings in File/Properties. Quite a few templates are set for HD videos.

    All I know is that .avi worked and now it doesn't.

    EDIT: Staff can delete this now. I solved the problem myself. Thanks for the help though guys. Just had to install DivX.
