"Well you are popular. I only have a few of these hunting me. Wannabe vampire slayers. Don't tell me, holy water and garlic, how very cliche. I expected better. Lets play!"

Selene disappeared from Tabris's side and appeared directly behind the hunter. Slashing at him to distract him, she turned to smoke to avoid any retaliatory attack and laughed.

    "This one could be fun."

Tabris had made the mistake of going for the torso before. He definitely knew better this time. He quickly leapt to the side of the man and gave him a huge cut in the top of his arm. THe man screamed. Tabris pushed the man over, and he fell like a tipped cow.

"That was fairly easy. At least he's not dead yet."

The girl looked up at Shrieker. "Who are you?" She asked. Shrieker took a step forward and the girl recoiled. Something about the way she moved and the way she smelled told Shrieker everything he needed to know.

"I'm a dhampire, just like you."

The girl relaxed. "What group are you in?"

"Group? I'm new in town. What happened back there" Shrieker asked.

"I just lost almost all my friends." The girl began to sob once more as if the shock and pain had warn off only in her moment of fear toward Shrieker.

Shrieker sat next to her. "What the hell is going on in this city that such a war is going on?"

The question was more directed toward himself, but the dhampire woman answered through her tears.

"Everything was f-fine *sniffle* until he showed up. . ."

Selene slashed at the hunter in a halfhearted manner. He had gone down too easily. There was no fun anymore. Even the game never lasted long. She tried to look enthusiastic for Tabris, but it seemed that she was getting nowhere. Tabris seemed to be enjoying himself so she would carry on for his sake.

Tabris could sense that Selene wasn't enjoying herself. He wasn't surprised. That was, after all the effect he often had on people. Things went great for a while, and then he always had to go and do something stupid and screw it up. Or, something just went wrong, even if Tabris hadn't done anything stupid. Even before he was a gangrel it had been the case.

What bothered tabris even more was that she was trying to hide it. He could tell when people were hiding things, especially when it was about him.

Tabris snapped the man's neck out of mercy.

"You don't seem to be having fun. Is something wrong?"

"I'm sorry Tabris, but the prey just doesn't fight as well as it used to. We would be pitched in a more equal battle, but the modern hunters are weak. We need a real challenge, life on the edge. You are a wonderful friend, but I'm sure that like me, you prefer a harder challenge."

Selene stroked his arm reassuringly. She liked Tabris, though she could sense melancholy and low self esteem. Did he truly blame himself for everything that had gone wrong in the past? If he was indeed the last of the gangrel, then his burden would be great.
