A Night to Remember

She'll be fine. She's a real strong woman. Never seen anybody that Vito is afraid until her.He took the glass from the tray that the waiter had offered him. He held the glass down towards his side. He couldn't afford to get any alcohol in his system tonight because of all who was going to be here tonight. He took his free arm and pressed it to his side to reassure him that his fathers revolver was still in its holster that was on his side up under his armpit. The gun belonged to his father and his father before him. It was primarily used to scare off people trying to steal food from the farm. But now that his current "Job" pretty much require he carry a few pieces, this is the one he uses the most for it's reliability over some of these newer guns that are being made. He carried a couple of the newer handguns as well because they didn't have to be reloaded as much, and could be reloaded much quicker than his .45, but did it pack a punch. The hand canon, that's what they called it. He also had a snub nose in a holster around his ankle for back up after the ammo in his revolver ran out. But of course this is just all per-cauntionary incase any of the guest decide to get out of hand tonight.

As the car pulled up to the party, Dante stepped out of the car and looked at the mansion in front of him. Seems like a fitting to hold a part of this size. From what he could tell, there were already some people there so he wasn't that late. As he moved closer to the door he noticed that someone else was outside along with him. Maybe he was later than he thought, oh well, it didn't really mattered since he still showed up. Once he was at the door, he gave it a good knock before waiting for someone to answer.

Vito sighed as he rolled his eyes, hearing the knock on the door. "I guess someone is too stupid to know that you don't need to knock." Vito opened the door and flinched. "Well, well. Glad to see you could make it Dante. Cigar?" He pulled a cigar out of the pocket of his jacket. Should Dante accept the cigar, Vito would hold up a box of matches. "Need a light?" If Dante accepted that, Vito would strike a match on the box and light the cigar. Regardless of what Dante said, Vito would start a conversation. He would smile mockingly. "This is a nice building. Try not to burn it down." The smile would instantly fade. "Enjoy the party." Vito walked off, not even bothering to listen to what Dante said in reply. "Jerk." He mumbled under his breath as he walked.

Candy was shocked, to put it bluntly. Vito, if she remembered his face correctly, had completely ignored her at the door! She grunted as she stepped into the warm house and closed the door. A frown fell upon the woman's face as she took off her scarf and coat and handed it to the man by the coat rack."Thank you," she said softly, and walked away. Her shoulder brushed by the man who was waiting at the door with her for only a brief moment, before Vito opened the door and spat some aggressive words toward the man. Candy looked back, smiled at the man meekly, then returned to walking.

Olivia overheard Vito speaking to someone and rather rudely at that. It could only mean one thing. They're here. Great... She sighed and moved to the door, accompanying her fiance at the entrance. The sight of Candy walking in, however, caught her off guard. What was she doing here? Olivia could see the corner of an invitation sticking out of her purse and she frowned. How did Candy get an invitation? She couldn't stand that girl. Always acting like she's better than everyone else. Flirting with all the men. It was annoying really. The very idea of inviting someone like that to her home was absurd; so how did she get an invite? "Oh, hello. Candy dear, I wasn't expecting you. Are you here with someone?" Her tone was surprised and quizzical at best. She didn't want to show how outraged she actually was at the idea of someone showing up uninvited.

Look at her, trying to look better than me on my day. This isn't about her. Olivia's eyebrow twitched with anger, but she kept it hidden with the smile on her face. She noticed one of the workers walking up to her with a large porcelain bowl. She smiled at him and pointed over to a small table just outside of the dining room. "You can set it over there Jeffery. We have to keep those things out of the dinner after all." Olivia flashed him a brighter smile as she turned her attention back to Candy beside her.

Rosalie nodded and smiled at Tommy a little unsure of herself. What was she doing as the date for one of the south side mobsters when her best friend was dating the boss of the north side gang? It was crazy. She was going to end up getting herself in a lot of trouble tonight. Whether it be with her friend or the various mobs, that she didn't know. This whole night was a ridiculous idea. There was no way these men could settle their differences for even a minute, let alone an entire evening. Something bad was bound to happen.

Rosalie took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. She could feel herself shaking slighting and she looked up at Tommy, awkwardly trying to figure out what to do next."So...how long have you worked for Vito?" That was a safe question, right? Nothing to personal or extreme. She hoped so. Rosalie didn't set out to make any new relationships tonight. Just to spend an evening eating free food and enjoying the company of others. It was nice to be around other people outside of work. That was the only time she saw anyone other than Evelyn. Tonight was just supposed to be a taste of freedom at it's best.

 

Tommy looked down to the girl that was holding on to his arm and appeared to be shaking. She must be scared of what can happen tonight... Tommy thought to himself. He was also scared of what could transpire tonight, but he hid it well, he had to of course, he was the right hand man of Don Vito after all."I have been in the service to Don Vito for 8 years now....Tommy started think back to that day when he first met Vito, and how his life had changed after that. All things that he has done, paying off cops, hustling people for "protection" money, making some people "disappear", and how he has not regretted any of it one bit. He was grateful to Vito for what he did, he owed him this service.

"I see. You two had to have been just kids then. It's not like you're that old." Rosalie hoped she didn't appear to be prying. It wasn't her intention. She was just honestly curious now. It would have been a lot to go through growing up if you decided to become mobsters just like that. As they made their way back through the house, she noticed Olivia talking to Candy. "Dear God. Just look at her. She rolled her eyes and looked away. "I can't stand her." Rosalie froze at the sound of her voice. Did I really just say that out loud? I totally didn't mean to do that. Oh my word...I'm going to look like such a horrible person now. Her chest was pounding as she avoided eye contact with Tommy. Seeings how he asked her to be his date, the last thing she wanted to do was look like a bitch in front of him. She noticed someone else near them, lurking in the corner. He was wearing a dark red pinstriped suit and had his hat tipped down, concealing his face. Rosalie thought she recognized him, but without actually seeing what his face looked like, she couldn't be sure.

Candy looked at Olivia, surprised. She wasn't in the house for more than a minute and she already began speaking with her. 'A good way to start the evening,' she thought, with a slight smirk on her face. Candy was planning on telling Olivia about how rude Vito was to her, but she decided to save it. It was her engagement party after all, she didn't want to ruin it before it even started. "Um, no, I'm not," she said bluntly, a little embarrassed. Then, she noticed Olivia's eyebrow twitch and the words she said prior ran through her ears.Oh, hello. Candy dear, I wasn't expecting you. Letting out a deep breath and staring at Olivia's fake smile, Candy said, "You don't want me at this party, do you?"

Candy's ear twitched as she heard Rosalie's remark. Her eyes turned to her, just as hers were turning away. Her jaw dropped drastically, and she crossed her arms. Anger rose in her eyes. 'How dare she say such things about me, and in public!' the woman thought. 'Oh, she'll get it... you better watch out Rosalie, I'm coming for you!' A sinister, almost devilish, smile came upon Candy's face as she thought of how to get even.

We were. In fact, I'm actually older than Vito if you can believe that.Tommy had looked back down at her and heard her say something, but he didn't catch what it was. She seemed to be avoiding eye contact with him and somebody else. He looked to the doorway where he could see Olivia and Candy in the doorway, then he saw him, Dante. He averted his eyes from him and back to the two ladies that were conversing with each other. He wondered why Candy was here, because every time he heard Olivia speak of her, it wasn't always the nicest things said.

Olivia shook her head, still smiling. She had to cover up her blunder. Candy was already here so there was no need to exclude her from the party. It would just be rude after all. She put on an especially bright smile and gestured to one of the waiters for the champagne. "Oh of course I do dear. You're more than welcome. I just forgot that I sent you an invitation is all. My mistake." Olivia giggled a little and took one of the champagne flutes in her hand. The gold liquid sparkled in the light from the chandelier.

She heard Rosalie speak, but couldn't make out what exactly she had said. Apparently Candy caught it, because she seemed rather irate at the moment. Olivia set a gentle hand on her shoulder and gave her a slight wink. "Now, now. There will be no fighting tonight. Just let it go. Be the bigger person Candy." She was still grinning as she held out a flute to Candy. "Here. Have a drink. It'll make you feel better. I promise."

"That's really interesting." Rosalie took another glass of champagne as a waitor came walking by. The stress was adding up quickly in her head and it would only make the drinking grow stronger as the night wore on. She couldn't help but eye the man in the corner some more. Something about him was unsettling. She shifted uncomfortably next to Tommy and took a rather large swig off the glass. "To be honest, I'm not really used to these sorts of parties." Rosalie glanced up at him, a bit red. Candy was staring and it mades things even worse. She obviously heard her. How embarassing.

The car journey seemed to take forever and for someone who couldn't sit still at the best of times, that was torture. It was bad enough that her dear Dante had come from somewhere else so she hadn't been able to go in the same car as him. She just gazed out of the window, the scenery wasn't that great but it was interesting and took her mind off the party to come. It really didn't help that the driver seemed seemed to be taking forever. Admittedly she wasn't familiar with this part of town but she was sure it shouldn't take this long.

Finally she let out an exasperated sigh, "Excuse me, but could you go any slower? I'm going to be late at this rate and that is not good. Do you even know where you're going? Forgive me but if you don't get this hunk of junk moving fast, I'll let Dante know you were the one who made his girlfriend late. Understood?" She asked the driver, annoyance clear in her voice. She just wanted to be there already, the tension was not helping her nerves. The driver muttered some apologises that she didn't particularly care about but the car did noticeably increase in speed.

"About time", Evelyn muttered as the car finally pulled up on the fancy drive of there destination. "Here goes nothing." She paused for a second, sorting herself out and checking that she looked good enough. Her characteristic smile crossed over her face, ready for the night ahead before she bounded over to the door, knocking quickly on it.

"No thanks." Dante replied to Vito question. Eventhough he heard what Vito said about burning down the place, he choose not to say anything until he was gone. Once he was, he said until his breath. "Don't worry about the building, it'll be safe unless you provoke me." He was preparing to walk around for a bit to see who was already here before he heard a knock on the door. Turning to open the door, he found his beloved Evelyn standing at the door. "Well, welcome to the party."

Vito had just downed three bottles of champagne without even using a glass. This was left over from his old "farm boy" self. Even today, Vito hated all of that prim, proper, formal bull. Buzzed, Vito headed over to Olivia. He put both hands on her shoulders. "Olivia, darling... love of my life... i'm sorry I have been neglecting you. I've just been deep in my work and I never meant to hurt you. From now on, I promise, I promise I will make you my number one priority, my beautiful future wife. I love you. I..." He paused. "I love you. You should be my number one and starting right now, you are." He hugged her. This was probably the alcohol talking and Vito knew that, but he didn't care.
