I don't see this as a huge change, perhaps more of a verification on something.

We know we cannot delete inactive members, but why not simply do the next best thing; list the members who are quite active?

This can simply be in a thread, and therefore can be edited in periods of inactivity/activity for members and whatnot. Members can be added to the census when they post in the thread and removed if they are inactive for a certain period of time (i.e. over three months).

This is, however, the basic gist of it. I would appreciate sensible additions to it if needed, and of course opinions and such.

But if we do already have something like this (which I may have obviously overlooked, silly me), please inform me and I will tell a moderator to lock this suggestion.

How would we count these people? By hand or through some kind of program?

Because honestly I don't want to go through something close to 40,000 members to find who the active ones are.
And besides that, there are quite a lot that just lurk and don't post.

I don't particularly mind the idea, but I'm interested as to how it'd be accomplished.

We add those who post in the thread to a list on the thread itself.

Ah, I see. But again, if this thread is in say, the spam zone, not everyone necessarily goes there. Same deal with the members that create profiles to look at the news and don't post.

True, I suppose this would be a slight flaw. We would have to find a way to post this somewhere where it would be noticed by those active.

And I do not consider those who do not actually post regularly "active".

I'm just curious as to what the actual point of this would be. Why would someone need a list of people who post frequently? What purpose does that serve? If you see someone post a lot, they're active. If you don't, they're inactive. Not to mention it'd be a pain to assemble and maintain.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your suggestion, but what it sounds like seems completely unnecessary.

It would be an easy reference, I suppose. Some only frequent certain forums and whatnot.

Though I do see your point at the unneeded trouble with this.

It does seem sort of pointless but I don't doubt that this wouldn't not work. (rofl)

Anyway, that birthday thread of mine seemed like it was able to tell if people were active or not. If we really needed this to happen, I suppose we could just post a thread in 1 section and have everyone directed to it.

Uh, I am going to lock this, and I am also going to reject it.

It is pointless, and it would not work. Not every active member posts in every single thread, plus as has been mentioned not every member posts, but it is a little unfair to ignore the people who are online every day but don't post.

There is no need for it. I seriously do not get the obsession that some people have lately over active users and who is active and who isn't. Is it a need to have yourselves shown and acknowledged as being really active or something?
