    Stands for Artificial Intelligence.

Who thinks this is a good thing? Can it be used for good? Why?

Also, do you think it could progress to such a level (like in i robot) where we create robots that are just as human as you or me?

...It's bad. They will start out as small, strange, cool things....then soon become as smart as us, maybe smarter. From there....they will compete with us for dominance....this is IF we get that technology before our star explodes....

We still have many billions of years before our star explodes. =P

And how do you know if the robots will rebel? What if they do not?

Well, artificial intelligence is good as long as their is some kind of limit built in. Not to sound idiotic but have you seen those movies? The AI get smarter and overrule us.

Dude, that's so not cool. It's okay to a certain extent.

A.I is a good thing. It show's how much humans have developed over the years, that we can create things that can think etc.

Hollywood over exaggerates everything, mate. xDDDD

I'm pretty sure a real world scenario would highly differ from a movie. =/

    That's true.
Well, it can be used for good, like research that normal humans can not.

....Then it will be scary....Things that aren't born naturally scare me....and this world will be infested....completely covered by man and robot.,...that scares the hell out of me....

It's obvious that the media, that has effectively implanted the idea that if computers developed enough intelligence on their own, the first thing they'd do is 'destroy/take over/kill/dominate' the human race. This isn't a fact nor should Hollywood movies ever be taken as a testament of what will happen.

The only reason why people are afraid of computers attaining human-like intelligence is because we believe we're the only race on the planet that has morals, and that computers are unable to. Computers attaining the knowledge we do we trust won't use this power properly because we adamantly believe we're the only ones who can make proper judgments on how to use such power. The truth is that we assume AI is incapable of developing morals, or emotions.

While I do believe AI can be used for good, as long as we 'raise' them in such a way to do so, I don't think it's a good thing to start inventing. We already have so many conflicting beliefs within our own race: the importance of life, the definition of life, and when we should pull the plug. If we can't even answer these questions as a whole, we shouldn't consider ourselves fit to 'create' new life--that being AI.

We shouldn't dare try to play God and create our own new 'race of species' when we obviously can't even understand each other.

Only Termanator. But I seriously believe there will be an outbreak if we get that technology...

Unlike us humans, robots won't have instinct. They'll be programmed to do something, and if they learn to fight, they are still machines. All machines are run by numbers. It'd be easy to find patterns, moves, etc. in a robot's fighting style to fight back.

Why am I saying this? It's not going to happen...

As for artificial intelligence, I think it's an amazing idea. Imagine sending a robot that could communicate with you with its own prgorammed brain? You could send it off into space, and as it saw things you could communicate with it by voice rather than key commands and plot numbers. If the A.I. was intelligent enough, they would know what they were seeing and would directly communicate with us to give us visuals and ideas of what was actually going on.

There are also the ifs, ands, or buts of it, though. I mean, imagine if the next All*Star product didn't just tell you where to go, but it got you there too? The world would become a lazy, steaming pile of - and we would have no purpose but to live for the next day, letting robots do our housework, shopping, etc. Even now, Tesco's is allowing people to order from the actual shop and they deliver it to them.. With the extremity of Tesco's success, this is a huge deal. For all we know, robots could be doing this in a few years.

Overall, I say yes to A.I., but there needs to be a point where people need to draw a thick line.

That's not really what this thread is about. We're discussing the possibilities and wonders of having actual robots roaming the streets, A.I. so advanced that we can sit around on our asses while robots do all the work. Not only that, but computers that know what to do, a sort of memory divulged from patterns in numbers. The possibilities seem honestly endless.

^^^^ it's the same thing, the A.I. is wat controls the enemies and party members. and A.I. doesn't always nessacarily mean robots

yea, but A.I. is a GOOD thing. besides, who would really be stupid enough to program them to be able to outhink us all the time?

As long as there's someone smarter then another, then robots won't overrule. *shrug* But that's simple reasoning.

It's possible, sure. But it's also unlikely as well.

Possible because we're smart creatures inventing smarter things.

Unlikely because... well... the odds are against it.

But odds can change. *shrug* Either way, I guess.

with the work done by ROBOTS!? We thought obesedy couldn't get worse. I'm not saying anything, it's just that then people will just do nothing. Lives become worthless because nobody does anything. If a natural disaster strikes and the humans have to work to survive, do you expect them to know anything? HELL NO!

There's a big bright line and it's pretty close to where were standing, we shouldn't cross it

Ok, I gonna clarrify this here. If there is ever A.I, then obviously it would be installed with a special program that would allow it so it would be impossible to be able to think up such ideas as rebellion. If you don't want them to rebel, then make sure that they cannot even think up the idea. If you ever want to try to do anything as giving them actualy emotional interaction, as in letting them seriously feel emotions, then that would mean that all you have to do is make sure that they aren't to strong. That way it will be impossible to rebel. Got it memorized?

    Jeez guys...calm down...XD

    Okay...A.I.

Artificial intelligence is just that, artificial. It's fake intelligence. We are the real thing. I'm not saying that humans cannot create robots that are even smarter then us, in fact, by 2020, scientists predict computers that could easily out-think the human brain. By 2050, the entire human race.

We really are arrogant creatures, aren't we? In things like the movies and stuff, we believe that anything close to be as smart as us will, in the end, try to kill us because we have emotions, because we love and hate and feel. Robots will be our greatest creations, plain and simple. We will pay god to the point where we create "life" to co-exist with us and make our own lives easier.

And, that brings up something else: In all honesty, humans are stupid and arrogant, but we aren't THAT stupid. Obesity and cholesteral levels are on the rise these days, having robots do everything for us, will never happen. YAY!! LET'S MAKE SLAVES!!! = F*ck no. If we EVER make robots smart enough to do things, we should not and will not try to be dominant. If anthing we'll integrate them into our own lives. And because of our human arrogance, we will never asllow complete control to be given to artificial intelligence. We will let them do things we can't do, like space exploration, or swimming to the bottoms of oceans, or things like that. To let them take over our very existence...no...neve gonna happen, you people all watch to much scifi and need to step back and take a look at what the world already is.

Take something like a tredmill for example. It's a robnot in it's on respects. It performs it's primary functions of spinning round and round to keep the belt moving, as well as keeping track of how long you been running, your speed, and your distance. Can a human really do that? No...but notice that the treadmill isn't running, we are. We are doing what we need to do, it is doing what it needs to do. It's not gonna get up and start beating you to oblivion with the fricken belt because you didn't run for exactly 40 minutes.
