Seven years since the unbelievable 9/11 attack on US grounds.
I'm submiting this thread as a tribute to those who were killed, and those who are fighting for this nation in the war that was the result of 9/11.

My class got the opportunity to go to a local college today and join in a live conference call with US soldiers stationed around Iraq. The students there got a chance to ask almost any kind of questions to the soldiers.
I loved it. It was so neat, seeing them there and being able to talk to them, wave, and them respond. They had so much to say, and I want to thank them again for doing what they do.

Well, since it happened 7 years ago, it's not really a Current Event, but it is sad what happened. I actually heard on the radio yesterday that Bush was planning on withdrawing all the troops, then sending 4500 of them to Afganistan. Anyways, I'm sure it's a day no one will ever forget.

An alumni from my high school as well as the father of one of my classmates died in that event. I'm glad Bush was open to the idea of doing something (though he didn't handle it too well) unlike Clinton. These terrorists need to know that they can't do whatever they want. I hope their 72 virgins are men.

True ^^' not so current but it still effects what's going on now.
So you heard that Bush was going to do that? I guess we'll see.
@ advent: I agree with you. I'm sorry for those that you knew who died as well

My school had an announcement, we were all quiet, and someone who had a really cracky voice started sayen the names of victems from where I live, and then rang a funny little bell.

It was really crappy, especially since I actually live in New York state, and am only 2 hours away from NY city.

Can't say to much about the victems, but, my brother was one of those people who were helpen out to clear the rubble and find survivors..........

didn't take to long after that until he got cancer, just like all the other people who were working there after being told it was safe to work there..........

Well, I believe the 9/11 conspiracy that the US government set up the entire thing. So I have a lack of appreciation for this day, I do however find it sad the amount of people that died for no reason other then to spark the flames of war, or at least REPORTEDLY died.

Yes we will. I wonder how the soldiers who are sent to Afganistan will feel when they find out they won't be going home yet.

Settle down guys, people wouldnt want us to be fighting over this....

I was sorta pissed when they didnt have a moment of silence today. =/ We were all expecting it and...then it didnt happen >_> I asked our English class who remembered where they were when they found out, and everyone raised their hands. It was sorta sad really =/ I was in 2nd grade and it was raining out side. And all the kids were afraid when ever a plane would go over our school (flights went over it into OC airport).

Tidbit- It isnt actually a current event anymore, but it wasnt long enough ago to be considered history. Its like...inbetween.

Today there was a moment of silence at school, while someone sang the national anthem.

I remember when it happened...I was on vacation to Washington D.C. >_< It was amazing to hear that the pentagon got hit when I was not too far away. O_o Getting back home was horrible >_< I was so afraid that I was going to die on the plane

You really don't know to be honest. The Government can relocate people. And several of the plane hijackers are still alive, despite the reports that all were killed on impact.

I can vividly recall every memory of that day.
That day everybody I knew in 9th grade were through into the world, no longer kids.

I don't like talking about today, my aunt and uncles plane was diverted back to Boston after the third attack. Conspiracy or not, innocent people were targets that had families that were never able to say goodbye.

I was in 8th grade when it happened. I walked into my homeroom and saw a TV in the room on the news, and they were talking about it. I was shocked. I still can't believe it was 7 years ago.

That was kind of one of the questions that a student asked the 3 soldiers. About being away from home and all. The captain said that in all honesty, it sucks. Not being able to see your family and if you have kids, watching them grow up. But he said that despite that, it's their duty and calling to be out there, doing what they can and getting support from everyone here.

I was in the 8th grade when it happened. We all had TVs in the classroom, and we had put them on after we had been told a plane hit, and just as we turned it on we saw the second plane crash into the tower. Still scares me, seeing that.

And of all things, my history teacher's given us an assignment about it that involves watching the History's Channel's documentary on it, which is all first-hand accounts as the attacks happened. I'm trying to suck it up and think about the fact that it counts for a grade, but it's really hard. It's still a fresh wound. And it still scares me so much...

That same day 7 years ago I was sitting in class with a friend whose parents were on the first plane to hit the WTC. I offer my prayers to anyone here who needs comfort today.

I was in 4th grade. My dad told me what happened on the car ride him. I'll be honest, I had no idea what a terrorist was, so I had no idea what was going on until I saw that shocking footage on CNN. It was one of the most shocking moments of my life.

You should be thanking Tora. This is a thread to honor those who died.

I live in NY too and it is something to hear the names of the victims again. I have gone by the place too a few times and just felt overwhelmed though in the past couple years I deal with it better. It's something I won't forget because so many people died and I remember being at home that day because I was actually sick and waking my mom to watch the news. My parents were pretty upset and we did know a few people that died in that, to include an uncle and aunt. We had phone calls all day and finally just gathered all of our relatives together and waited as it was going on since phone lines were pretty tied up.

I had, and still do have, a lot of respect for the people who went and helped there. It's a definite reminder to me that no matter where you live tragedy can happen and it opened my eyes more to what people in some other countries go through constantly. It makes me all the more grateful I live here in the U.S. because we don't face this kind of thing as much as other places have had to, even though we had a great dose of it all at once.

Theres a woman in my town that had a son who was in america that went to the twin towers everyday for something to eat. It's freaky but for some reason he said to himself on the the 9th of september 2001 that he didn't want to go and he didn't know why.It isn't as if he could cook. He'd burn toast. Then later in the day he almost had a heart attack when he saw that the planes collided with the towers. His mother was balling her eye's out when she heard his voice.Thats one of the few miracles on that day.

Ya know what's sad though is that there was this guy, right? His wife was trying to call him and find out how he was and he wouldn't answer his phone and all and was supposed to be at work at the TT. Later on in the noon time he called her after his love affair matter had been dealt with and she asked him where he was and he was like 'at work'. She hung up on him and got a divorce.
