4kids vs. FUNimation

Okay, I grew up with the 4kids version of One Piece, but after watching comparisons, I do see now how bad the One Piece actually was with the voices and such in 4kids, but there was one thing that I can say they did right

So now we know why 4kids was great, fulfill the thread title and show us what Funimation did?

Never watched any of those dubs. You're still not delivering on your promise, where is the comparison?

 

I gave the comparison. Besides, there's something called youtube. Just look up the one piece comparisons yourself, it's not like there's a shortage of any videos

 

Here's my very worthless opinion on this subject as a One Piece fan... The 4kids voices had more personality. Period. When talking ANY other series (other than probably Gintama?) the Funi dub would highly outclass it... But One Piece is all about the explosive, silly personality. Where 4kids ruined their chance at any support is when they censored the show so heavily. They thought it was a kids show only to find out later it wasn't so they had to try and make it one, but that decision eff'd 'em. To this day, I find the 4kids dub has a lot of charm and fun to it, and this is coming from someone who didn't watch or like the show as a kid.[DOUBLEPOST=1396123389][/DOUBLEPOST]

I mean... You should provide evidence for both sides... It's like if I make a claim about gun control then tell people to fact check my stuff.... You're making the claim. No offense, just saying he has a point.

Point? Okay, I had to. The joke just popped in my head and I couldn't get it out.

Plus, it's hard to show something like this as a comparison on my own, it's much better to watch the ones on youtube. This is something that's been done years in the making, so I doubt I'd have enough patience to show you it all. Plus, it's on opinion, you're example is of something with facts. I'm not giving facts, it's a....factual....opinion.....oh be quiet. The point was to show my favorite part of the 4kids, because after watching some youtube videos earlier, I kind of see how weird it was. I can't just say something is weird and everyone agree to it, it's up to them to decide whether something is better than the other.

I just watched that exact one earlier. Plus the one with Robin joining, and there's someone who made a little music slideshow with a lot of changes between the 4kids and FUNimation/Japanese versions. One of the things they probably didn't think about was the fact that they took away all the cigars. I know it's not right for kids to see that, but when you get someone like Smoker just breaking smoke out of his mouth with no cause, that's where you start to wonder "how did they get away with this?" Plus a lot of Crocodile's mouth moments made more sense with his cigar than without.

 

Wow... the funimation dub really is way more boring ._.

 

except for the fact that it doesn't censor what the 4kids did, and it seemed more believable. At least when I watch it. And when I hear the voices again, I only like Zoro's/Zolo's old voice actor (oh yeah, that's another thing...why did they change his name to Zolo? In fact, just a recent episode I watched they made a joke about that)

 

4kids renamed Smoker to Chaser and edited his cigar to look like his smoke powers.

 

See, that's what I'm talking about? Even when he's not talking, his mouth is just open like it's missing something....or they just wanted us to believe that he just enjoys gaping all the time. And was there really a need to change the names of Smoker and Ace? I mean come on, are names suddenly a bad thing as well? They even changed the scene with Zoro in the stockade and getting food from rice to cookies....does america suddenly have something against rice? Or they wanted to try and make an anime that was made in Japan more american, which flopped

 

It's a 4kids thing, they even did it without the editing earlier on.

Also, stealing this quote from Wikipedia, but apparently the former CEO of 4kids said this: "..if [anime fans] want this programming to come to the United States, then they're going to have to accept the fact that it's going to be available in two styles."

I guess he forgot about the other companies that dub anime...not too mention, when does "my way or the highway" get you anywhere with people liking you? In fact, what is wrong with having a black person in a TV show for young children? Example


Seriously, is it so dangerous for kids to learn that there's more than one skin tone? Sheesh, it's not like it's going to cause a war.......don't quote me on that, there's dangerous people out there

 

I wouldn't worry about them at least for a while, after the loss of it's main titles and the Yugioh lawsuit the company is effectively dead...for now...

I think the FUNI HAS BETTER VOICE ACTING opinion came from the preexisting stigma on the 4Kids dub because of the censors, so they'd welcome anything that didn't censor the show with open arms.
