The bible also states that the Earth will end, when it couldn't possible get any worse. Don't get me wrong, the earth pretty bad, but it could be a LOT worse.

 

What I've heard recently is that the Mayan calendar didn't end in 2012; that's just the longest-standing count of it. It's just hearsay, but it makes sense. Calendars don't really end.

 

I am not saying that the world won't end, I'm just saying that it won't be in 2012. Who knows? Maybe it could be this year or even in 2020 for all we know. It will be a whole lot worse,I agree with you on that yes, I have read a couple of times some verses in the Apocolypse of what will happen when Jesus comes down from Heaven to Earth and take the ones who believed and praised him with him. It's pretty scary but true.

 

This is what I agree with.
I'm pretty sure it was the Mayans, but it may have been another culture, but they were really advanced for their time.
I'm sure they were able predict something big happening, but I highly doubt it's the end of the world

 

I don't think the world will end in 2012. The world will end when it wants (or science causes) it to and even if the world ends in 2012 or 4042 we still won't be prepared.Frankly no one wants to die, so might as well live until the the end of the world happens(if it happens in our lifetime). And besides WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE ONE DAY ANYWAY*!!! So might as well live life to the fullest, besides I rather enjoy the present then predict the future.
*Sorry if I sound pisscimistic but it's true.

When Meteor comes, everyone is saying it will be the end of the world. Some people are completely panicking, buying everything they can, spending all their money in order to enjoy themselves in their last moments, etc. and really look quite stupid. Others are just going about their daily lives like normal because if Meteor does fall, then there's nothing they can do about it and if it doesn't, then they won't have wasted their life's savings or anything like that.

My point is just that personally, I don't believe anything will happen in 2012. This is just another "OMG the world is ending" moment in history, and like all the others, it will amount to nothing. But on the extremely unlikely event something does happen, is it really worth worrying about? Not really.

 

I think it's like Y2K. The guy who was making the calenders either died or got bored, and then died, and we just are freaking out. The calender will repeat itself, so I don't think there's much to worry about.

The calendar on my phone goes all the way to 2047 and still goes. I think I'll go by that.

 

I don't know if something will happen or not, I think that mass hysteria and people panicking will do a lot of damage, but I don't think I believe the end of the world is coming.

If it is meant to be then worrying about it won't stop the future, being afraid won't make everything magically alright.

I know of people already making suicide pacts because they want to make their end their choice and not at the hands of some outside force.

I won't pretend that I completely dismiss it, because I admit there is a small part of me that does feel fear, but not exactly fear of the end of the world, rather a fear of the unknown.

Besides, if the world ended every single time it was prophecised to, we wouldn't even be in existence to worry about this one.

What will be will be, but what a sad representation of our race we would be if we went down sobbing and crying in fear.

 

The answer is no. It will never happen. They take it from the calendar and since it ended in 2012, they assume the world ends in 2012. Its a false theory. No worries here.

 

I actually liked 2012, it was pretty entertaining even though it was pretty unrealistic.

Also every damn time they got away at the last possible milisecond, I know it's done to be dramatic but it got silly after the 74853745647th time.

 

This thread is not about the movie (there is a thread about that in Movie & Media) but rather about the Mayan prediction that the movie is based on.

 

Is it just me or does the world always seem to be doomed? Given the number of end-of-the-world prophecies that have been proved wrong. If you were to write a book on all the end-of-the-world prophecies ever made in detail, you'll die of old age before finishing the damn thing.

 

I really have no idea. I'm not going to say it's ridiculous because even if people basing it on a calender is, the scientific facts that something catastrophic will happen in our lifetime because of climate change, pollution, melting glaciers and ice and other realistic things like is not.

If anything happens, I'm not sure it'll be the "end of the world" or in 2012, but I do count on something pretty awful happening soon that affects the vast majority of the world and not just a small island or region. Even if it's a nuclear war. ​
