Apparently, there was a book full of world disasters. When the floods happened, it was in the book. When 9/11 happened, it was in the book and now 2012 is in the book.

I don't believe it and never will unles it actually HAPPENS

EDIT: Just the beginning is the only relevant part, the rest is opinion.

This is pretty much why everyone says 2012 is doomsday.

People have said the end is coming for as far back as history goes. It's just some mortal complex we have, where we fear our own deaths.
Personally, I don't care if it's 2012, 5012, or tomorrow, i'm not going to waste my time worrying.

2012 will only be true if people keep believing it is going to happen and throw everything away in their lives for it. And if that happens, it will be the biggest act of manipulation in the history of humankind.

I find it rather ironic. People said that 2000 would be the end of the world but it didn't happen. I mean, JUST BECAUSE all the planets will be in a straight row from the sun outwards and new era of our world (like moving from Stone Age to Bronze Age) is going to happen, doesn't mean everyones gonna die really.

Well, it kinda pisses me off too. (I don't know why O.o) Because everyone is freaking out about it when I know that it's not gonna happen. (Like what xXRhian+RoxasXx said) I mean whatever happened with the other "predictions"? they never happened. Well they did but they were told wrong....way wrong... Whoever made up this crap, is either high, or they just need seriuse mental help...I mean, come on? Seriusly...its a load of crap.

Talking about the Big Bang? That wasn't caused with eight stars. The theory is simply something smaller than a speck...well, it basically exploded. Big Bang is relatively simple.

Either way, 2012 is just some event...I forgot what it marks but it's not the end of the world. Unless we get hit by some sort of massive cosmic event like a gamma ray burst(which has happened at least once but the other time it came from nearly the "other side" of the universe). How many threads have been made about this? Seriously. It's getting stupid. People said the world would end around the 70's...or 80's...it was a massive scare but nothing happened. Then it happened again with 2000.

It's all ridiculous. Technically, the Mayan calendar predicts, "The coming of a new era", not, "The world will suddenly end on this day, let's all flip sh!t about it". We don't know what the new era is. But it's most likely NOT the end of the world.

Here's my opinion. If the world ends in 2012... Honestly, in my opinion, it would be a relief and probably a scientific phenomenon(if caused by something interesting, like... a comet/meteor/outer spacey thing and not humans). If it doesn't end... then oh well, better luck next time. I don't believe it will happen, but I will say that worrying about it is quite stupid.

Well, if you mean achieving that means, by the destruction of the world, probably not going to help since we will be extinct.
If you mean a change in the way humanity is as a species, than yeah it could be one of the greatest things to happen, I guess it's just something to wait for.

The world as we know it ends every day. Something will always be different compared to the day before.

And how did the Mayans predict that?

Now that sounds like an idea. I've been thinking that for years; glad somebody else picked up on it.

I don't see that as much of a permanent solution in the long term. I mean sure we save our skins for a while, but how are humans suppose to sustain themselves. Where do we plant the food we eat? Gather the metal to build spaceships? Discovery of Earth-like planets has come up with minimal results.

Not to mention, we'd have to gather materials form Earth in order to create these spaceships, many of which need advanced or rare alloys. We'd need massive amounts of energy to be able to force these ships along in zero-gravity, including the need of radiation shielding and heat reduction since the sun will be extremely warm without an ozone layer to protect us now.

And they'd have to be able to carry the whole human population? Including, pets, wild creatures, and flora, with enough necessities to sustain our travel, our pets travel, the animals travel, the plants travel, till we reach another planet?

I’d also like to add the fact that, if we have buggered the planet we are on right now, what stops us from doing the same to another planet we colonise? Will we bleed a planet dry and then go onto the next one?

I really don't see it happening is all. Near impossible, not to mention a logistical nightmare.
Like truth, the world's is constantly down a river where rapids, rocks and sharp turns are common place. Strangely, we are never able to drown. Sink, yes, but we always rcover and even improve. What a strange boat we're on.

It's a neat idea though. Other worlds, other life... It's mysterious and attractive. I definately would prefer that to the crap I live in now.

The world isn't going to end in 2012. And if it does, it won't be because the Mayans "predicted" it. I've heard even that is a misconception, but I don't remember the exact details.

It is a misconception; when a Mayan calendar ended, they would jut make a new one. They didn't "predict" anything.
Anyone, it's going to be just like Y2K. People make a big deal about it beforehand, but then when it happens, everything's fine. The only difference is that with Y2K, a few small things did happen, but with 2012, absolutely nothing is going to happen except a bunch of people shitting themselves.

    Heres my argument:

All of the calendars, watches and the things we use to keep track of times, dates and years are all man-made. The end of the world is going to be a natural thing, therefore:

all the 'secret codes' in numbers like 2012 are all superstitious crap

also: according to religion (i know...) We're not supposed to know when the world will end...therefore its unpredictable

Sure the planets might align and stuff, but no one really knows what will happen when that does. It could mean catastrophe, it could mean nothing. It is again superstition.

Now the world could end in 2012, but not because of superstitious predictions, but climate change...come on!

    It's just a theory people. I don't think it won't happen.

According to the bible, there's a verse that clearly says that not even the angels in Heaven don't even know when the end will be coming. If the angels don't know then sure as hell us humans don't know. But I do believe something will happen..just not the end of the world/ apocalypse.

I will be see aloooooooooooot of people going to church and pleading to God to forgive their sins the day before the "end of the world".
