I don't believe in this. Its stupid. Oh wow the calender ended and so is the world on the last day of the calender. No.

You know what my brother told me whats going to happen that day. He told me that the sun is going to align with the center of our galaxy. Also its going to complete a wobble. The earth is going to wobble. And he knows this because he's majoring in Astronomy. Also he said another thing thats going to happen is the Solar System is going enter the dense part of the galaxy. This is what the Mayans called the Dark Riff.

Actually, the Mayans had multiple calendars. When one comes to an end, another one begins.

I don't believe in this, I've thought about it, asked others and watched tv shows on it (Sci-fi channel had a lot of theory shows on that month) and came to a personal conclusion that its not going to happen.

And here I was thinking the "prophecy" said that the world will end as we know it. How is that a bad thing? I see nothing in that to say that we are all going to die.

A calender is a way to keep track of past dates and future dates. It was also designed by man. So, dates hold absolutely no significant meaning because they are a product of man's capability to count. So, the world won't end because it's just another invention. And the Mayan calender ends on 12/12/2012 because they were unable to complete because the conquistadors invaded and took over their land, society, etc.

Some people want the world to end, and just make up rumors saying its gonna happen, to see the widespread panic. I don't think this is true. If the world ends on 12/12/12, then you can punish me and say I was wrong. I think something bad will happen on this day though, because doesn't something bad happen every day?

Oh noes, the world's gonna end like on June 6, 2006!! Oh, wait a minute...

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath or buying life insurance just yet. Really, the whole thing is just so stupid.

Also, if this were true, Australia would be the first to go, as it's the January 12 there, when it's January 11 here in the US. Times zones, people. Time zones.

How many times has the world been predicted to end now? And how many times has it actually ended? That's BS.

Wait a second... what?!? It's not just any normal prediction? It's the last day on the calendar!? Oh no, it must be the last day in the world! The calendar knows all! The world ends with the calendar!

It would make more sense if it were on the Winter Solstice, imo. lol

I really don't know if it's going to end. If it does, well, sad day.

Well, didn't the Mayans also say the world started about a few thousand years ago? This is obviously wrong, therefor I think this date was just the last one they mad.

I don't think the world will end, but something that will change people's lives will happen. It will be, in a sense, the end of the world as we know it. But really not going to be so serious. :/ that's what i think anyway.

More than just the Mayans have predicted. Some person in ancient China (I forget his name and title) also predicted the day 12/12/12 to be evil. And several European oracles predicted the end of humanity to be in this age of technology.
But I still think it's BS.

Their calender ended because they thought their civilization would end by that time(and they were wrong). Not because someone died. It has nothing to do with the end of the world.

how many thousand years has the world existed? lol

    haha nice spelling

And that post seemed pretty useless to the whole thread.

They also believed (or it may have been the Aztecs) That the world was already destroyed 5 times before by the sun exploding (not sure about that) I believe that theory since the sun is a star and stars explode (or implode, right?) and i read somewhere the sun is in that stage.

But i agree with some of the other posts, the world isn't goin to end , It's going to change. I think the way the universe will be (where the planets/stars/suns are aligned, etc.) will have some effect on every planet, but we're the most civilized (except for aliens lol) planet so it'll have the most effect on us

If I was making a calendar all the way to the future, I'd get bored eventually. 12/12/12 seems like a perfect place to stop.
And how mnay of these doomsday theories have come true? Exactly 0.
Even if the world was going to end on that day, there couldnt have been a way to know.
