Still I say, Copying isn't art, hun. We've already seen the exact same drawing. Unless it's from the original artist, we don't care.
It's just as bad as tracing.

I wouldn't say that it's as bad as tracing, because it shows more observational skill. Still, when you are using a reference picture, you should always find a way to make it your own. Play with the linework, shading, colors, backround, etc.

And you should loosen up your hand. When copying something from a picture, the more you try to make it exact by following each line, the worse it looks, because you lose the element of movement. The subjects don't have to be in the EXACT position as the original, it's more important that you capture the "personality" of the drawing, and make it look 3-dimensional.

In other words, take some more creative liberties, and you're fine ^^

The first one, i think, isn't so bad for being copied. I used a sketching tool. The other three, idk why i didn't, i just used a regular pencil.

The last three, however, are drawings, for my friends XD -yaoi lovers-

so i was thinking of how to draw L X Light for my friend Brandy, because she loves them and we're having a meeting today. I lost a Fan Fic i did of them and went for a drawing instead :/

ahaaha - yaoi, huh? I think I like you Cupcake

Anyway...yeah, so basically the only person I'd really listen to is this (see quote) chump. What s/he says is the geniune, absolute truth:

Personally it kinda annoys me when peolpe spout the usual nonsense of how copying automatically equates tracing/art theft. Either these peolpe have never picked a pencil or they like to roll in the ridiculous artheft!bandwagon where apparently, it's absolutely ok to not know what art theft is and pissantly wank over absolutely nothing anyway.

I won't even get started on people who summon a shitstorm over a simple graphic icon which uses fanart. W.T.F

Anyway. Really, absolutely don't mind what anyone says in regards to tracing. I encourage you to keep copying, but with that said it's not really necessary to post all your copies. Contrary to what other people seem to make as if, copying is actually good for your observational skills, like that member mentioned, and it's also a fun way to practice your hand at drawing in general. I also *highly* recommend you draw from real life more rather than from already stylized, 2D images; already images on paper sort of nulls the idea of being able to conceive/understand an actual 3D object from scratch. I hope that made sense ahaha

Here's a nice detailed copypasta which could be of use:

    more & sauce

Anyway, there is my two cents. Happy drawing!

Agreed with noctits87345, just not that I love the yaoi part... >>

Anywho, there's nothing wrong with using somebody else's art as your guideline. Heck, I do it all the time when I draw KH-Manga characters.

With more practice, you're going to be a lovely artist. Keep up the good work! :D
