Aislin had heard Candy Shop and had to pass on it. Originally she tried to but walked in and felt a breath of the sweet air and had to leave. It wasn't that Aislin had any problems with candy... it was just a giant guessing game for her. How close was everything wrapped up or made to peanuts? She figured there were nut free sweet/sour candies, but Aislin loved herself some chocolate.
And in small town candy stores that is like eating from a smorgus borg with half of the chocolates being labeled... or in this case containing nuts.
Aislin pulled out her tracphone out of her pocket and sighed. For years she had been trying to kill it or lose it, but her parents were always like "look see, it is such a reliable phone if it hasn't broken in 6 years". Now, after everything, her phone was dead. And finally when she could have appreciated its worthless existence.

When Aislin got herself back into the trolley, she thought she would be alone, but instead saw another girl in the trolley. Aislin forced a smile and waved with the wrong hand for a moment, cringed for a second then spoke, "Are you alright?" she seemed to be asking that question a lot, but she had a feeling she already knew the answer for this girl... she looked awful. Aislin sat over in a seat across from the girl and kicked her legs up.

Sophie had a little bit of a hard time admitting that she had a bit of trouble avoiding tasting any of the candy. The ridiculously strong scent of the shop was getting to her, and she decided she needed fresh air. Before she could reach the staircase going down, though, someone else ran past her and down it.

Subtly stumbling back, she peered down the stairs to see who had almost knocked her over and was ready to wring their neck out for not having the common courtesy to watch where they were going. When she saw a mess of brown hair and pale skin, she looked surprised.

Sophie casually trotted down the stairs until she reached the girl and then bent down to meet her. "Trouble in puppy love paradise?" she asked, obviously referring to her and Adrian. "That's alright, I think he's an idiot anyway." Sophie grabbed Pierce's arm and pulled her up, "Get up, you're a mess. Quit crying. Are you hurt?" she asked with a bit of care, observing the other girl's knees and hands. They looked red from the fall and Sophie clicked her tongue. "You should be more careful." she chided, grabbing her hand again and then sitting her over on a bench.

"I'm not medical expert, but I think I might have something . . . You're not bleeding, so that's good." she observed, then pulling up to sit next to her. Sophie reached into her back and dropped a dried up hankie in the other girl's lap. She didn't even know how that damned thing survived the ferry sinking. "You're going to alert the others if you keep crying. Unless . . . you want the attention."

Adrian watched as Pierce walked away. As she soon left his view, he fell, face flat on the floor. And he closed his eyes for a minute. He felt a tear soak down his cheek. Adrian had broke. He was a complete sorry mess. he knew that Pierce would never look at him the same again, heck, he doubted that she would ever look at her again. Whatever chance he had, he blew it.

He stayed there for a while. He didn't know what felt worse, Toni's death, or the fact that Pierce might not bat an eyelash at him anymore. He just couldn't....
    "You brought this on yourself."
"You again. Since my life can't get any worse, what the hell do you want now?"
Silence. Plain, utter silence. then, "Let me rephrase; I brought this on ourselves."
"Sure, like you got any feelings. You just ruined my only chance for a girl to like me. I officially give up."
    "I never meant to."
"Yeah, keep denying it. We'll see where that leads us."
"Who knows you better than you?"
    Adrian thought for a moment.
"That's right. I'm you, but I have my morales, even if I'm loco."
    "I still hate you."

The silence resumed. Adrian suddenly wished that he was dead already. He wished that he was in the ocean, dead alongside Toni. Pierce would've suffered from less then. And she would move on.
But this, this was too much.

Adrian stood, and looked down the railing. Pierce was at the hands of Sophie now. Let Pierce have her friends. He walked slowly down the steps, and out the door, and stood outside, sulking.

"Hey there," Bryan greeted as he walked up to the pair of them, "What's this about?"

Erik leaned back on the corner of the wall he had been leaning against before. He looked up at Bryan and sighed. "We're making a game plan, but we need Juliu--"

"Morning kiddos." the eye patch bearing man greeted.

He nodded at Julius and brushed his hair out of his face. It was getting rather long. "Perfect timing. We were actually just waiting on you. Now that everyone is here," he rested his hands behind his head, "we can get started. We need to figure out what to do. I don't trust all this hospitality and Tucker agrees with me."

Footsteps echoed up the small staircase of the trolley and Maria lifted her head just enough to see a blond figure walk back onto the vehicle. It was that girl that had kept her from drowning. Did she ever thank her for that? She watched the girl sit down across from her and she did her best to force a smile on her face. Are you all right? the girl asked.

Maria winced and pointed at the pill bottle just out of reach. I will be once I can grab that. Her fingertips grazed the bottle and it rolled out of reach. Aislin, right? she asked, having seen the girl around before and hearing her name called in the clinic. I'm Maria. Can you--can you get that? I would super appreciate it. She gave her a more genuine smile and let her arm dangle. "Thanks by the way. I can't really remember much from yesterday, but I do remember you helping me."

Trouble in puppy love paradise? came a questioning voice. Pierce looked up to see Sophie standing above her. She shook her head, pretending not to know what she was talking about. That's alright, I think he's an idiot anyway. Sophie grabbed Pierce's arm and pulled her up, Get up, you're a mess. Quit crying. Are you hurt? Pierce wasn't sure whether to take offense to Sophie or appreciate the gesture. Sophie clicked her tongue before continuing. You should be more careful. she chided, grabbing her hand again and then sitting her over on a bench.

I'm not medical expert, but I think I might have something . . . You're not bleeding, so that's good. she observed, then pulling up to sit next to her. Sophie reached into her pack and dropped a dried up hankie in Pierce's lap. You're going to alert the others if you keep crying. Unless . . . you want the attention.

Pierce lifted it up to wipe her face before handing it back to the girl. Thanks Sophie. She rubbed her sore knees that were still red with the heels of her palms. The massaging motion helped with the pain in both her hands and her knees. That was--it was--I don't know... Something weird happened, and I freaked out... She looked up at the other girl. I didn't hurt you, when I ran by, did I? Pierce was genuinely concerned. She was actually kind of starting to like Sophie, even though the girl scared the living **** out of her.

"Thanks, Sophie." Pierce replied, and her stuttering wasn't present. Sophie wondered if it was just something she did around boys ( by that, Pierce was heterosexual, then ) or simply around Adrian ( Which would mean she liked him or he rubbed her the wrong way. The spent a bit of time together these last two or three days, so Sophie was leaning towards the second option, and that annoyed her. ).

"No need to thank me." Sophie said, being genuine. "I dislike to see people cry."

She watched the other girl rub her knees and palms and a dull pain started in Sophie's wrists. She surprised the urge to massage them and listened. "That was -- it was -- I don't know . . ." Pierce tried, and Sophie raised an eyebrow. "Something weird happened, and I freaked out." She looked at Sophie, "I didn't hurt you, when I ran by, did I?"

"Oh, so you had been paying attention." Sophie said, but not in a mean way. She was interested in what freaked her out. She had been with Adrian before, so it had something to do with him, for sure -- but what? Maybe he was a sort of sex maniac? Or just some weirdo. Or his pathetic person could have driven Pierce off. "So what freaked you out?" she wondered, bluntly.

Julius joined them, and their makeshift counselor meeting began. Bryan didn't know what this was about, actually. Was something wrong? Everything seemed to be okay . . . Except for, you know, the camp going up in flames, their ferry sinking, and being a long ways from home.

"Perfect timing." Erik said, "We were actually just waiting on you. Now that everyone is here, we can actually get started. We need to figure out what to do. I don't trust all this hospitality and Tucker agrees with me."

Bryan looked over at Tucker and frowned, a confused look on his face. The way Erik had said 'hospitality' sounded . . . off.

He shook his head. "I don't see what's wrong with them being nice to us . . ." he mumbled, mostly to himself, "But what do you want to do? Our train'll be here, soon, and then we'll be on our way home. It's not like we'll be stuck here, right?" That was kind of a scary thought.

Aislin shrugged and looked over at the bottle. She then picked it up and handed it to Maria as she heard, "Thanks by the way. I can't really remember much from yesterday, but I do remember you helping me."
O-oh... was the the one who was drowning?

"AIRHEAD?!" Stratana raised her voice and stomped the ground in front of Natalie with her foot. "Listen here-!" She started off in a fit but then remembered: "Friend". This was Lexi's friend. She tried to simmer down, gnashing her teeth as she spoke. "Listen... I'm not as dumb as everyone says." She admitted.

Sebastian raised an eyebrow. This was odd. Once Stratana flew into a tirade, she rarely ever stopped nor ever confessed to be at fault.

    Meanwhile,
Sean repeatedly had his hand smacked every time he tried to reach for a piece of candy. Jenna's deterring slap to the wrist didn't hurt, but was enough to smack Sean's paws of hands away from the treats. He could have easily have rushed for a snack, but instead, each time, he slowly reached out his hand to see if she'd try it again; and she did. "Okay... I'll bite... What's up?"

"You big dummy, if you can't figure it out, I'll just let you figure it out yourself." And Jenna left in a huff to look for Emalynn, Erik, or someone else she knew.

OOC: Yes, I do get tired of using Jenna in almost every Sean post. But she's become something of a character of some importance; a rather prominent NPC. She's free game now though. I apologize for how brief this is, because I am at school atm.

Once Eric had left to go get Bryan, Tucker was left alone. He backed up on the wall Erik was leaning on earlier, pressing his back against it. He began fumbling at his fingers again, cracking them (but no sound came from them since he did it all earlier), licking his lips and gulping nervously again. He stared at a spot on the sparkling ground. All he thought about were those horrid, horrid memories playing back at his head.

Anything with sugar that was painted in bright colors was a perfect bait for victims. Victims being those who became prey of his worst nightmare. Victims being children from the age of nine to fourteen. Children being the ones who found themselves helpless, hopeless and harassed. Children being the strangers from the nearby school, or the neighborhood or even people from his own neighborhood... along with-

    "Hey there, what's this about?"

He looked up immediately, Bryan stood before him. Turning his head to his right, he realized Erik had gone back to his side without him noticing. He immediately straightened up from the wall and moved to where he originally stood a while ago, allowing the older counselor to lean back on his wall and beginning the little meeting of theirs.

"We're making a game plan, but we need Juliu--"
    "Yo kiddos"

The eye-patched counselor appeared on cue, with his friendly greeting. Tucker gave him a small smile, but it disappeared soon after. Erik began talking again, which was good, because he didn't quite feel like talking. Plus, Erik seemed like he was such a good leader anyway - being one of the older counselors, he probably had more experience. As the man said his last words with the mention of his name, the twenty-one year old nodded. He caught the glance at him from Bryan, who frowned at him then wore a confused expression.

"I don't see what's wrong with them being nice to us . . .But what do you want to do? Our train'll be here, soon, and then we'll be on our way home. It's not like we'll be stuck here, right?"

"Are you serious?" he blurted out at the younger counselor, with a harsh tone and a fitting expression. It took him a second to realize how that had come out and he immediately put a hand over his mouth as if he just swore at him (which is kind of how he felt). Slowly dropping it down, as he shifted his eyes a bit to the ground before looking back at Bryan, he muttered a quick "Sorry."

He wanted to yell though. He really did. He wanted to yell out everything he was about to say, but instead he took a breath before he looked at Bryan with his gentle, chestnut eyes and explained in a calm voice, "It's just that... we don't know who these guys are - and even if we did, how do we know for sure that these people who are being nice to us... what if they're not so nice after all? What if all this free stuff is just a way to lure us into somewhere? What if we're falling into their trap? Who are they anyway? For all we know, one of them could be a-" It was like he choked at the word before he could even begin to say it. He couldn't find himself to end the sentence with that word. He glanced at the other two counselors quickly before he inhaled once more and spoke again, "I mean, I'm all for thinking positive, but with all that's happening, and the honest-to-god bad feeling in my gut, we have to think about the kids... At least, like, we should go and collect everyone in a group and watch over them or just wait in the trolly or something."

"Um... I think we might get in trouble if we stand by here, Elisa."

Elisa nodded at her friend, but looked at it carefully as she turned and got dragged away by her friend again. Why? Why was it locked? What could possibly be up there? She decided not to linger on her thoughts about it as she stepped down from the stair case and found herself on the first floor. She looked up at her friend, who then took a seat on a bench and motioned for her to join him. She smiled at him slightly and sat down beside Richie. Before she could even speak, a loud noise interrupted her thoughts. Turning her head immediately, she noticed a barrel falling over with all of its candy contents spilling out beside its doer, who was actually Pierce, standing shyly beside it. She looked really worried and frazzled.

The teenager was about to get up from her seat and help her out when someone beat her to it. That someone being Sophie, who then helped her up and brought her to another bench not too far off. She watched the two for a moment, their personalities kind of radiated from them. The ever so anxious and cautious Pierce beside the straight forward and blunt Sophie. She didn't really know them too well to say for sure, but that was as far as her first impressions went. It was an odd friendship to watch, but they had each other which was nice. She turned back to her own friend beside her with a smile, not really knowing what to say, something else caught her attention: a head of short, brown hair by the entrance of the candy store.Needless to say, it was Bryan, whom she began to have very odd feelings for - at least odd in her book. She never had feelings for someone in real life, but then again, she never had friends with anyone outside of the internet, yet here she was sitting beside one of her own.

Joining him was the three other counselors. Judging by their expressions that she could see from where she was, they seemed a little troubled. She tapped Richie's shoulder lightly, then discreetly pointed at the group of male counselors in the distance, "I wonder what they're talking about..." Elisa whispered then pouted, she hoped everything was alright - everyone else seemed to be having a merry day.

Adrian leaned on the wall outside Dreamer's. His eyes were narrowed in a sharp frown, his eyes closed. He stayed there on that wall, with a foot on the wall, supporting his lower back, and his arms crossed and his head lowered. He tried to get Pierce off his mind, but he couldn't. He couldn't forget how afraid she was when he told her what he found out earlier, how sad even. He let out a large sigh, and let his arms fall and he stopped leaning on the wall. He looked through the entrance doors, and saw Sophie conversing with Pierce.

Adrian didn't think about a sarcastic comment for the Odd One. Instead, his stomach felt like it was bubbling with hydrochloric acid. His hands began to shake. His mind immediately began to race. His own vision became narrowed toward the two. Adrian thought he saw enjoyment in Sophie's eyes. Were her eyes...dancing with victory?
Adrian heard a low growl, and was surprised that it came from him. He let the growl flow, as he glared icily at Sophie.

    "You hate her, don't you?"
"I've already made that obvious." Adrian grunted aloud.
"Do you want me to do anything about it?"
"Don't push our luck." Adrian thought. "I've already lost Pierce. I don't need more of a bad reputation."
"I never said that I'm gonna make it worse. Nor did I say that I would follow your orders."
Adrian's migraine hit him again. This time though, he snapped his neck left, then right. His eyes opened to reveal a darker side of Adrian's nature. Adrian smiled. A guttural laugh escaped his lips, and he said to himself,
"Anyone who threatens me, or tries to hurt me or the ones I love, everything above their neck is gonna be a fine red mist!"

So what freaked you out? Sophie looked at her curiously. Why did she want to know so badly?

Pierce stared down at her hands silently for what seemed like forever. Her voice was low murmur, only loud enough for the girl beside her to hear. I... I don't know... It was--it was all fine. We were talking! she squeaked out louder than intended. Her face flushed red and she glanced up at Sophie nervously before returning to staring at her hands. It was just... nice.. ya' know? And then... I don't r-really know what happened. Adrian--he was clutching his eye and... and... shrieking!--for no reason. He was on the floor in pain and I called for help but noonewaslisteningandthenhejustgotupandwasfine! Her words began to flow as one as she picked up the pace. Her heart was beating fast and her chest rose and fell rapidly as her breathing elevated. He said... he said he developed m-multiple personality dis-disorder. It started this morning? Pierce looked up at Sophie in complete and utter confusion. It made no sense. Hopefully Sophie would have a better idea?

Aislin cringed as she spoke, "I wonder why this town smells like baked goods everywhere... it's almost like they are trying to cover up a smell or something. Aislin shifted in her seat and looked over at Maria again, changing the subject, "So... did you have fun at camp before... well... events ." It wasn't like she couldn't say fire, it was just she didn't want to. Thinking about it only made her turn her attention to the burns on her legs, which she instinctively pulled up her pant leg for a moment to check up on how it was going. The bandage was still wrapped around it and she sighed and thought to herself,
Damn it, an incident with fire and then an incident with water... what's next god? Wanna suck me up in a Tornado? How about an earthquake? ...you know what... I kid... don't take that as a challenge please...

It had seemed the other counsellors had come up with the same thought about meeting up so it made things much more easier for Julius. Closing his eye and crossing his arms, Julius merely nodded as he listen to them speak on about what to do next. Doubt about these people's generosity was already beginning to form and already he could tell that they were quite unnerved about what was going on. Bryan began to speak and soon enough those words were cut off by Tucker.
Shaking his head, Julius let out a sigh as he reopened his eyes and glanced up at them "Alright now lets not be getting too worked up now" Julius said nonchalantly in reply to Tucker's loud reply to Bryan. True the boy had at least apologized and realized his mistake, but getting all emotional was definitely not going to solve anything. "Your right to say that things must be...fishy...but still" Julius began to say as he closed his eyes "we have to think about our current situation and the future if we wish to get these kids home" Julius said
"We have no food, and most of our things have sunk along with the damn ferry. We ourselves are in an unknown place and we do not even have much resources to even really do much" Julius said as he opened his eyes "What we must not do is let paranoia have a big impact on our judgment." Julius said with a sigh "we were in a fire and a shipwreck...of course things are going to look very dangerous and threatening...I'm not saying that we should accept everything we are offered, but for the kids sake we need to accept some of the help we are offered and keep a damn good eye out for anything dangerous" Julius said. Food was a necessity of life and if they were being offered it then it wasn't that bad of an idea to accept it for the road in case anything happened.

Not in the mood to walk around?

    Not particularly, Maria commented.

I am just... allergic to half the things in there... and that smell. Aislin cringed as she spoke, I wonder why this town smells like baked goods everywhere... it's almost like they are trying to cover up a smell or something. Like when kids smoke weed and pour perfume or cologne all over themselves and it just... it is just too much.

Maria gazed up at the other girl curiously. I've wondered that too. Cigarettes tend to work a lot better to cover up the smell of weed by the way. It's more potent, but less overwhelming. She turned her attention on her nails, looking casual as she talked about methods of covering up marijuana odor.

So... did you have fun at camp before... well... events?

She smirked at Aislin and gave a slow nod, her blond hair falling down around her face. The pain killer was slowly beginning to kick in and her side wasn't hurting nearly as bad which was a bonus. Yeah. I always enjoy camp life. It's too bad what happened. I was really looking forward to my last year as a camper. Maria lifted her hands and wrapped her slender fingers around the back of the seat, carefully pulling herself upright so that she could talk to Aislin properly. I graduated this year, she continued, So this was going to be my last year at camp as a camper and when I come back next summer it'll be as a counselor--well, if there's a camp to come back to next summer. She added grimly. Were you enjoying the whole two days of it?

He backtracked on everything that had happened since they arrived -- nothing out of the ordinary; everyone had been nice and accommodating . . . "Sorry."

Bryan averted his eyes to the ground, his face still red with embarrassment and confusion. He didn't get it. Was there something the others were seeing that he didn't? He pressed his hands against his legs in his pockets, trying to think of what he missed on their stay . . . He couldn't think of anything.

Tucker started again and Bryan twitched in panic, thinking he was going to be yelled at again. ". . . we don't know who these guys are - . . . ." These guys saved our lives. ". . . what if they're not so nice after all? What if . . ." What reason would they have to be mean to us? They don't even know us -- and we didn't do anything to them . . . ". . . lure us into somewhere . . . into their trap . . ." Bryan frowned. This sounded . . . paranoid. Overly. He didn't know what to say. Maybe the others had a different experience in Bentley than he did. Maybe Noëlle did, too?

". . . but with all that's happening, and the honest-to-good bad feeling in my gut, we have to think about the kids . . ."

"What's all happened?" Bryan asked, genuinely innocent and confused.

"Alright now, let's not be getting too worked up now," Julius said, and Bryan looked at the older man, feeling a little better. "You're right to say that things must be . . . fishy . . . but still, we have to think about out current situation and the future if we wish to get these kids home." Of course Bryan wanted to get the kids home.

"Um - " he tried, but then Julius went on. "Er - " No dice. "B - But - " Still no room for him to talk. Bryan sighed, tried to take a deep breath.

"Excuse me!" he said loudly, getting his room to talk. The group was quiet now, and his face was red again. "S - Sorry . . ." he started with a mumble and then gained his footing, "I don't know what's going on here that's so . . . bad. Will one of you explain it to me because we must be staying in two different places the way you're talking now. I just . . . Please?"

Permission granted! Thruster's engaged. Commence shoveling! His arms thrusted into the nearest pile of candy and without further ado or regard for the others in their group. He took their hospitality to heart and their free candy to stomach! He loved every moment of it, it was like this place was his oasis. Fire on his back, water logging his once nice clothes. All those Earthly troubles were gone as he sampled one candy then another. Ooooh, cinnamon flavored this, dark chocolate that. Geegus, they had everything here, his only concern was that he might get stuck here forever and die before he could be wheeled out and saved.

They were flame damaged, sea soaked, clotheless, moneyless, phoneless youngsters. Why would they be charged for anything while they waited on rescue? James rubbed his hungry stomach, the food devoured at Cane's place was quickly forgotten as he attempted to eat his fill while he could. Some of the others looked skeptical, he couldn't figure out why. Weirdos. His thrusters(arms) were getting tired, and so, knowing that there was still plenty candy about for him to try out he decided to find a wall to rest on and survey the sticky chocolate on his hands. He felt a little gross, dried chocolate on his hands and what not, so he got up and discovered the first floor rest rooms. His hands were cleaned and he settled back down onto the wall.

He contemplated the hospitality of this town and chalked it up to strange and eccentric, and he did think about what his parents would say about all these things going on. But pfft, worrying about the future was for adults. He was a kid surrounded by Candy Land. There was no way he was going to let concern, weigh him down. YOLOswag, right?

Erik listened intently to what Tucker had to say and actually felt a little bad for Bryan when the red head snapped on him, but only a little. He needed to get it through his head that there was something seriously wrong with this place, even if it didn't seem like it. His foot tapped lightly on the ground as he crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. The talking jumped from Tucker to Julius and it looked as if Bryan wanted to say something, but was unable to squeeze in a whole word. His breathing was slow and steady as he let the two fill in the younger counselor with what they felt was wrong.

Julius quit talking and Erik opened his mouth to speak-- "Excuse me!" he immediately clamped it shut as Bryan belted out the two words loud enough to keep the others from saying anything. "S - Sorry . . ." he started with a mumble, "I don't know what's going on here that's so . . . bad. Will one of you explain it to me because we must be staying in two different places the way you're talking now. I just . . . Please?"

Erik pushed off from the and took a deep breath. His brown-eyed gaze was aimed directly at the youngest of the four and he shook his head. "Bryan," he said his name slowly, enunciating each syllable, "why don't you understand that there is something going on? Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it isn't real. You don't find this place fishy in even the least bit? Think about it," he began to tick the situations off on his fingers as he spoke, "the ferry crashed and there was no coast guard or search and rescue. How long do you think we were out in that water for? The only people that came to save us were the Grants. That doesn't strike you as a little odd? There were other people that made it out of the water aside from our small group and yet we're the only ones here in Bentley. Instead of just giving us a lift to shore where ambulance and fire trucks should have been waiting to inspect people and take them to the hospital, we were drove hours away from home in the opposite direction with injured children."

He hoped some of this was starting to sink in. "The Grants, who clearly do not own the inn, acquired free rooms for us--imposing on the bitchy innkeeper--, we magically get to ride a train for free--who knows if it'll actually take us home or not--, and now some other stranger is giving us free candy at a shop that belongs to someone else. It just doesn't add up. I know people can be generous and hospitable, but this is too generous. Something doesn't feel right. They say 'don't take candy from strangers' for a reason. Don't you think this might be why, at least a little bit?"

He looked riled. Erik felt like he was crumbling to pieces in a sense. He had always been a good leader, but now he just felt like he was failing on so many levels even if it didn't look like it on the surface. He ran his hands through his hair and linked them together at the back of his head, elbows sticking out.

    WEATHERFOGGY 53°! ✖『DATE & TIME』 6/18/2013 - 1:02PM ✖『DAY』 04

xxxxxNoëlle spent the rest of her time exploring the rest of the first floor. The candy called to her, but luckily the breakfast she had scarfed down earlier fought off the urges well enough. She had never seen so much candy in one place. There was even an entire section dedicated to spicy candy, which she hadn't thought there was much of.

Honestly, at this point, she was wondering if there was some kind of amusement park here at Bentley. Bright colors, strange enthusiasm or antagonistic attitude. It was really interesting, and it baffled her why so many people seemed ... clearly on edge. It was actually a nice little break from the fire, and the ferry sinking ...

She was just about to explore the second floor when the clicking of heels and tapping of dress shoes alerted her attention. Her legs froze at the bottom of the staircase and she lifted her eyes, taking in the view of three new people she had never seen before.

One was a tall, slick blonde-haired man with tan skin, light green eyes and a large nose. He wore a white suite with a deep red bow tie, and carried some kind of ... candy scepter in his right hand. She almost laughed. Instead, she took in the appearance of his ... wife (?). Fair skin, green eyes, a pointed chin ... On her left hand was a jade ring. She carried nothing, but latched her arm around the male's free one. Behind him, a little girl with pale green eyes bordered with dark circles, straight black hair, and a pink dress trailed. Her face wore a generally uninterested expression, and as soon as they were at the foot of the stairs, she walked away to the back counter -- where the trolley man was -- and took a seat near the register.

... More tourists? The woman's voice was high pitched and nasally. Noëlle felt instantly irritated. The woman's wide eyes scanned over the floor and her chin lifted.

Aah, no, no, no, no, no. I understand now, Glenda dear. These are our guests. The ones our Sugar Cane mentioned, remember? The man replied, in a low voice. He turned towards her and their eyes locked, sending an extremely uncomfortable vibe down her spine.

Hello, there. Welcome to my candy shop. His voice picked up in volume and soon he was addressing everyone, with a wide, white-toothed smile. Are you finding everything alright?

Luuuuuuuucas! The trolley driver from earlier exclaimed melodically, waving from behind the counter with the little girl. I hope you don't mind, I told the kids to help themselves.

Lucas -- or the owner of the shop turned his attention away, dragging the scepter along the tile floor as he walked towards the front. Glenda released his arm and shot Noëlle a nasty look before strutting off towards James with an air of disapproval. Noëlle turned away just as he was being scolded, looking for her brother. He remained huddled around with the other counselors and she sighed softly.

Besides the initial welcoming, things remained relatively normal. The little girl kept giving everyone odd looks, while Glenda glared at everyone she came into contact with. Lucas was caught up in a rather serious discussion with the trolley man, but they were all generally left to themselves.

You -- Tucker -- decide to approach one of the Dreamers for conversation. Lucas is still caught up in his conversation with the trolley man, so that leaves Glenda and the little girl. Glenda is clearly not in the best of moods, so you pick the latter.

Hello, you state, a bit nervously. You give her a small smile. Her green eyes look you up and down before she returns to what she was doing. (Drawing on the back of a discarded receipt.) You think she is going to ignore you at first, but you hear a gentle, shy greeting being returned to you.

    Hi ...

He smiles at the younger girl more brightly. His first impression on her was kind of stuck-up, but her respond seemed friendly. Not really interested on wasting much time, he decided not to beat around the bush but still be cautious with his words,

So your family runs the candy store? Pretty neat! Do you enjoy all the candy? Do people come here often?

The girl stops her crayon to think about it for a minute, looking towards Lucas and then Glenda before biting her lip.

    I like the candy ...

She seems to deliberately ignore the second question.

W-well that's good ... um, so, what are you d-drawing?

The little girl shows you the back of the receipt. There, she has drawn a strange diagram.

I ... I am not done. She looks away nervously. Before you can engage her further, Glenda storms back behind the counter, takes her hand, glares at you, and drags her away upstairs.
