WEATHERFOGGY 52°! ✖『DATE & TIME』 6/18/2013 - 10:23AM ✖『DAY』 04

Her body jumped with a sudden jolt, and she was thrown out of sleep and into awareness, gasping. Nausea swept over her, and her hands trembled, which seemed like a normal thing lately. Her entire body was sticky and clammy, and she realized that she had fallen asleep in her soaked clothes. Thick strands of hair sparkled with the salt from the sea, and her throat felt dry, eyes burning.

Slowly, her palms flattened against the top blanket of the bed and she pulled herself into a sitting position. Her knees ached and her skin felt scratchy and agitated. Memories of last night came back one by one, and she fell deeper and deeper into melancholy with each one. Her eyes drifted to the window, past the blinds, and took in the thick fog. The sight only cemented her mood, and without further delay, she draped her legs over the edge of the bed, grabbed some clothes from her bed and making her way to the bathroom and past a burned out candle that smelled of honey and vanilla.

For a moment, with the cute pastel shower curtain and the wide variety of potent soaps, shampoos, and lotions to choose from, she forgot where she was. The water was soothing on her tired, aching muscles and her hair felt much lighter after a vigorous washing (though the color was darkening).

A prolonged look in the mirror prompted her to smile, just for practice. Her eyes felt heavy, and there were small bags beneath them -- but nothing to too bad. Right now, she just had to focus on staying positive and finding something to eat.

Finally, she left the steamy bathroom wearing something new (it was wet, too). Her hair, now a messy gradient of brunette (at the roots) and pink, lay piled on top of her head with a black scrunchy.

Quickly, she grabbed her room key and shoved it into her pocket, kicking her bag safely under her bed and ignoring the bottle of Proenzen, though her head hurt a bit and her shoulder throbbed uncomfortably. Her body shivered with the thought of that ... doctor, and reminded her of how urgent a thing it was to get out of Bentley.

Knock, knock.

She was already standing in front of the door. Her shoulders tensed and she took a deep breath, searching for the glimmer of enthusiasm she had gathered before, in the bathroom, before opening it.

Noëlle noticed Bryan first, and then -- as she stepped further out of the doorway -- Quentin.

Her lips pressed together in thought, and then parted. It took her a moment to gather her thoughts and settle her confusion.

Good morning, Bryan ... She greeted, clearly a bit distracted. Is ... err ... he okay?

Her fingers motioned towards the unconscious Quentin.

Morning brought a sense of unease which was enhanced by the thick layer of fog outside the window. Those people shouldn't have brought them all the way out here. The fact that they did raised some serious red flags and the rest of them needed to go home as soon as possible. They couldn't stay any longer than they needed to, and they didn't even need it in the first place. All the injured ones should have been rushed to the hospital and the rest of them should have gone home, not be whisked away to a different town by strangers to stay in their inn and receive medical attention for free. The Grants were too nice. Something about them was suspiciously off and Erik didn't want to sit around to find out what exactly that was. Them, coupled with what that receptionist at the clinic had mentioned about being out after curfew really twisted his stomach into knots. Why did the town need an eight o' clock curfew?

He slipped into a change of clothes in the bathroom. Only his backpack had managed to make it out of the ocean. His bag was lost. There wasn't really anything all that important in it, but he would have rather not lost it in the first place. His wallet had been in his back pocket where it safely remained until last night when he opened it up and layed out all the contents to dry. His phone was there, but too water damaged to even turn on--that wasn't good given their current whereabouts. And, the clothes in his backpack had relatively dried over night, so he was well off overall.

When he came back out of the bathroom, Maria was still asleep on the bed. Something didn't seem right with the way she acted last night after visiting the doctor. She seemed to be sleeping heavily now and there was a bottle of pain killers beside the bed that they didn't bring with them back from the clinic. Had someone been in the room besides them? Whomever slept in the other bed was already out of the room. He hadn't paid attention to whom it was last night and would have to ask around. Maria was out of her torn up bloodstained dress and in a large white cotton t-shirt and blue scrub pants instead. The nurse was probably the one to have changed her last night, but it still left him unsettled. Her curly platinum blond locks were splayed out on the bed in a tangled mess. Her hands were up on the pillow by her head and she had knocked the sheets off her upperbody while she slept. Erik walked quietly over to the bed and covered the rest of the girl up with the bedsheets that were now down by her knees, before turning to leave the room.

His feet padded lightly down the hall as he made his way to the lobby of the inn. The sweet aroma of breakfast wafted to him from the dining room, but he wasn't in the mood to eat. They needed to arrange a ride home and with the fog as thick as it was, it would probably take some time for a vehicle to get there. Given the number of them that had been brought to the inn, they would probably need a small bus to transport them all back. He moved to the front desk where Cane seemed to be working with a frown on her face. "Excuse me," he cleared his throat and she glanced up at him briefly.

"May I help you?"

"I was wondering if you had a phonebook I could borrow?" He glanced around the room. There didn't seem to be anyone in the hotel beside their group. "Along with a phone," he added. She didn't seem pleased by the request, but brought him both requested items. "Thanks," he told her with a smile before taking a seat in one of the nearby chairs. Erik flipped through the yellow paged directory until he reached the business section. His thumb stopped on the T's and he ran his finger down until he reached Transportation. There was nothing here in town, which oddly didn't surprise him. With his credit card he could probably arrange for a bus from Candlewood to drive out here and then bring them back, but that area wasn't listed in the phonebook. How far away were they? He had thought only an an hour or so, what with the Candlewood being so large in size, but now he was starting to feel like they were much farther. His stomach fluttered with nerves and he ran his hand through his thick brown hair in frustration. No dice. He stood up from the chair and brought the phone and phonebook back to the front desk. "Where's your television? There wasn't one in the room and I wanted to check the ne--"

"We don't have tvs here," interrupted Cane.

No tvs? He was afraid she might actually hear the shouting that was so loud in his head. Things were far too sketchy for his liking.

While waiting -- hoping -- for Noëlle to answer the door ( Maybe he had the wrong room number? ), he wondered which of them would go first; Quentin waking up by the sound of his knocking, or his sister answering the door.

After thinking about that, he didn't have to wonder much longer because the door opened and saw his sister, looking better than yesterday. Maybe she didn't have any nightmares last night? She seemed prone to them, and Bryan could usually tell when she did.

"Good morning!" he said, mustering a cheery smile. He moved to make room for her to step out of her room.

"Good morning, Bryan . . ." she greeted, sounding a little distracted. "Is . . . err . . . he okay?" She motioned to Quentin and Bryan looked down at the clearly-sleeping boy.

"He was just kinda . . . there." Bryan replied, rubbing the back of his neck and looking at him with a frown. "Do you know why he's in front of your door?" Not that he minded about that, but it was kind of weird. "Hey, kiddo," he said, bending down in front of him, "Wake up." he poked at his shoulder a few times.

He looked back up at his sister, waiting for Quentin to respond. "I - I . . . I wanted to talk to you today." he told her, trying to have a good resolve for it, "Here's probably not a good place, though . . . I think I saw some benches in the garden. There, in a little bit? You must be hungry, so you should definitely get something to eat downstairs."

"Hu - What?" Bryan looked back at Quentin to see that he looked around. "Oh. Oooh. Good morning . . . Noëlle, and you are . . . ?"

He smiled, "My name's Bryan," he told him, offering the boy his hand. Quentin looked at the hand for a moment, but took it anyway, looking reluctant. "I found you sleeping out here, are you okay?"

"I'm fine. I was just worried about her." He looked over the older boy. "Why are you here?"

Bryan raised his eyebrows, surprised that they were here for the same reason. "Same," he said with a laugh, "But I think a bed would have been more comfortable. You should definitely get yourself cleaned up, or you'll get sick in those clothes." He turned to Noëlle, "Meet me there after you eat?" he asked her.

THERE'S a STIRRING INSIDE of ME.

Something brushed against her face and she stirred in her sleep. Pierce woke up feeling groggy. Her head hurt and she reached up to touch it, but hesitated at the feeling of terry fabric sliding down her body. What--oh! Her face flushed red at the remembrance of what she did last night. Thin fingers clutched the towel tightly to her body and she checked to make sure there was no one in the room before climbing out of the bed. It felt good to be dry and clean--if only she had her hairbrush so that her hair would be manageable. Pierce crept her way into the bathroom and locked the door behind her.

She ran her fingers over the clothes she had on yesterday and assessed that they were now dry enough to wear. Letting them hang up over night really did the trick. The only thing still damp was her thick sweater and hopefully it would be warm enough to go without it. She let the towel fall into a pile at her ankles and kicked it aside before slipping back into her original clothes. Her fingers combed through her matted hair the best they could and she finally had to give up, just pulling it back into a bun. It wouldn't be too bothersome so long as they went home today. They were going home today, weren't they? She nibbled nervously on her bottom lip at the prospects of not leaving. The Grants had been nice, but something left her feeling uncertain about the whole ordeal.

Pierce picked up the towel from the floor when she was finished and hung it on the back of the bathroom door with the other one. She didn't want to leave a huge mess for the housekeeper, since she was not one to trouble others. Her sweater continued to hang from the shower curtain rod and she unlocked the bathroom door, stepping back into the guest bedroom. She had left her shoes on top of the heater and those seemed to be relatively dry now as well. Pierce grinned in satisfaction before leaving the room with the key card in her back pocket.

The whole inn smelled delicious. The sweet aroma of food cooking carried her all the way down to the dining room. Sophie seemed to already be present and her stomach did a slight back flip. She wished there was no one else in there. The girl seemed to be preoccupied with writing something and Pierce did her best not to bother her. She sat down at the long table, a few seats away on the opposite side, and began to scoop up a plate with foods. There was so much to choose from. They didn't prepare all that for them, did they? Guilt plagued her thoughts as the plate clinked softly against the table when she set it down in front of herself.

After a couple minutes, Sophie seemed to finish working on whatever she was writing and Pierce's brown-eyed gaze drifted over to the other girl. She always made her feel self-conscious, not like it required much work. Ah-uhm... she cleared her throat awkwardly and took a bite of cheesy scrambled eggs. G-good morning... Sophie... Her eyes darted back to the plate in front of her and she picked at the sausage link with her fork. They shared a room together last night, but due to the hour they shared nothing more than 'good nights.' She felt silly being so shy around Sophie, but the short-haired brunette had a rather intimidating aura about her.

Adrian woke up groggily. He had his face on the floor and was in a fetal position. He got up and dusted himself off, and let his eyes adjust.
"Are you alright son?"
Adrian looked at what seemed to be an old man in his mid-40's, in a brown trench coat. He wore circular-rimmed glasses, and raisin-shaped eyes, and a kind smile. Adrian let out a scoff, saying,"Piss off, old man."
"Or what?"
"Or I'll make sure that the Inn manager takes your room keys and gives you the boot."
The old man readjusted his glasses. "That would be incredibly inadvisable, as well as improbable, young man. You don't want to end up like Tonitrui, do you?"

Adrian immediately tensed, ready for a fight. "I don't know who you are, you old coot," He said slowly,"But I never like the fact that I'm being threatened. If you want to settle this like real men, put 'em up and I'll show you how much I ended up like Toni, because I never signed up to become collateral damage!"
The old man laughed. "There is no need for that, young one." The old man replied, "Because right now, faces are about to change. Live to fight another day." The old man pointed a finger to one of the doors of the lobby, "Downstairs there is breakfast waiting for you and your friends. Have some of that, and explore the Inn. So many sights to see, so many secrets to reveal!"

Adrian blinked, and the old man was gone. As though he never existed. What the hell was that all about? He didn't know. Adrian dismissed the moment as nothing more than a mirage. He rubbed his eyes and went to the Lobby desk. "Is there anyway I can get a room?"
"Yes. Here you go. Enjoy your stay."
Adrian grabbed the key and shoved it in his pocket, and he went downstairs, and waited for the others.

Sophie continued to write in her journal until she heard footsteps joining the area. She finished the entry, "C'est la vie . . . I shall write again soon." and looked up to see who it was while adjusting herself to sit properly in her chair. As a pleasant surprise to herself, Sophie saw that it was Pierce. For a brief moment, she thought about earlier, and pondered if she had been awake or not during that time. The thought hadn't really occurred to Sophie, but she doubted it.

The other girl shyly cleared her throat as Sophie sat down with a plate of food and the latter smiled. "G - Good morning . . . Sophie . . ."

Very shy, aren't you? Sophie thought to herself with a hint of a smile. "Good morning, Pierce." she replied. "I like your outfit and hair, it looks pretty." A smile filled her face, taking a bite out of her jelly and buttered toast.

"How are you?"

THERE'S a STIRRING INSIDE of ME.

Good morning, Pierce. replied Sophie with a smile.

Pierce shook her head and plopped a bite of sausage in her mouth. She chewed slowly and then washed it down with a bit of milk. The breakfast table was set up rather beautifully. They must have put a lot of effort into the inn's appearance.

I like your outfit and hair, Sophie commented as she ate, It looks pretty.

Her face warmed and she could feel herself blushing. Oh, um... Thanks. I was wearing it y-yesterday. I kinda um... lost my bag... and I didn't have my brush so I just... ah, tossed it up. Pierce dropped her gaze briefly, then quickly added, Y-you look nice too. She tried not to think about the locket, but the sadness she felt for its decent into the vast depths of the ocean left a hole in her chest.

How are you?

Pierce risked a glance at Sophie, hoping that her red face wasn't too noticeable. B-better than yesterday, I guess. She took another bite of scrambled eggs before speaking again. And you? It felt so strange having such a normal conversation. Dim light filtered through the room from the window to her right. The curtains were drawn, but the world outside was still gray and foggy. Would it be like that all day? She hoped not. I sure hope the weather clears up, she muttered to no one in particular. I wanna go home.

It brought her a little satisfaction that there had been some small reaction to her comment. "Oh, um . . . Thanks. I was wearing it y - yesterday. I kinda, um . . . lost my back . . . and I didn't have my brush so I just . . . ah, tossed it up. Y - You look nice, too."

"B - Better than yesterday, I guess." she continued with a bit of a break in her speech, "And you?"

Sophie smiled at this, "I'm alive, and that's the most I could ask for." She prodded her chin with the fork, looking thoughtful, "I wonder how many people lost their special belongings between the sinking and the fire." She was verily hinting at Cupid's Brew, but she didn't expect anyone to pick up on it. "And . . . I have some feeling that we might not be leaving this island soon. It was convenient that the couple found us when they did."

She wondered who else was up and about in the inn -- and if any of them were dead because of the strange people here. She couldn't let that feeling of suspicion go, and if this place really was some sort of cultist town, that would be hilarious. With their luck as of late, she wouldn't be surprised.

"So Pierce . . ." she began again, not willing to let the conversation die just yet, "What sort of instrument do you play?"

Sophie smiled, I'm alive, and that's the most I could ask for. That's true. No matter what happened, at least they had managed to stay alive. I wonder how many people lost their special belongings between the sinking and the fire. Pierce's expression fell. She lost a lot of important items. Her mother would remind her that they're just things, but it still felt like something had been ripped from inside her. And . . . I have some feeling that we might not be leaving this island soon. It was convenient that the couple found us when they did.

Pierce mashed her lips together and her forehead crinkled. Yeah. That's what I thought too. She let the conversation linger at that. So she wasn't the only one that felt that there was something off. That was a relief. There was a moment silence in which she used to finish eating what was on her plate. It felt good to be full. She hadn't really eaten much of anything at all yesterday.

So Pierce . . . Sophie began again, What sort of instrument do you play?

She lifted her head up and gave Sophie a halfhearted smile. The other girl was actually trying to have a conversation with her and Pierce felt proud with how well she was doing at the moment. Piano and the flute, but primarily piano. Her expression darkened as realization dawned on her. Oh... I guess I lost my flute yesterday... her voice trailed off as the memory of being forced to drop her bag or drown flooded her mind. She shook it off and forced a smile back on her face as she met Sophie brown eyes to blue. What about you?

The received smile at Sophie's effort did little for her spirits and she wondered if the other girl might be mocking her. Were that true, Sophie gave her more credit than she originally thought she would -- but Sophie doubted it.

"Piano and the flute, but primarily piano." Sophie watched Pierce's face darken as she seemed to realize something, "Oh . . . I guess I lost my flute yesterday."

. . . Oh, shit. Her cello. Her violin . . . A smooth expression remained on her face as a storm began to spread in her mind. Well, at least she had her personal instruments at home, and they were safe. "Aha . . . I suppose I lost my instruments too. Terrible business." She sounded calm, but was actually pretty pissed about the situation. "The cello, violin, and I also sing." she replied, "I can play a variety of instruments actually, but the cello is my forté."

Sophie sat down her fork and leaned back in her chair, fixing the black collar of her sleeveless shirt. After being so tired yesterday, it wasn't a wonder that she'd forgotten about her instruments, but it was still angering nonetheless. If someone really had sunk the ferry, she wanted to snap their neck.

"Do you sing, Pierce?" she then asked, trying to keep her mind from overflowing with anger.

Aha . . . I suppose I lost my instruments too. Terrible business. Sophie sounded calm. That was too bad. Instruments were expensive, no matter what type. The cello, violin, and I also sing. she replied, I can play a variety of instruments actually, but the cello is my forté. That was kinda cool. She had never been able to get into the whole stringed instrument thing, and so many people just opted right for the guitar. Pierce respected those that played stringed instruments other than the guitar. She gave her an approving grin.

That's cool, she replied, thinking of what else to say. Having conversations with people was something she struggled at and wasn't really ready to let it end. Sophie seemed to be a lot better at it, always having something to ask.

Do you sing Pierce?

A low awkward chuckle escaped her throat and she was pretty sure it made her look insane. Uh, hah... um, no not really. I'll sing along with things, when um, no one is around, but I've never really tried to sing. Her cheeks burned again and she redirected her gaze to the window and the fog. It's hard enough to t-talk to people. Singing... it's--it's another whole feat. She chewed nervously on the inner lining of her cheek. Um... What else do you do? Her brown eyes drifted back to Sophie. I mean.. besides music. Other hobbies? Pierce was pretty sure she sounded as stupid as could be. Normally she would run and hide. The tension in her chest that always seemed to hold onto her while she talked to people was unbearable. She sort of feared Sophie--for some unknown reason-- and thought that chatting was probably safer than running and hiding.

As the conversation continued, Sophie gathered that Pierce wasn't the best to continue carrying conversations, and her early thoughts of the girl mocking her were wiped clean.

"Uh, hah . . . Um, no, not really." That was actually a bit of a disappointment. Sophie pegged her as the singing type, though stage fright was probably something that got in her way a lot, "I'll sing along with things, when, um, no one is around, but I've never really tried to sing." It seemed that this was an embarrassing topic for Pierce, and Sophie wondered why. "It's hard enough to t - talk to people. Singing . . . It's - It's another whole feat." Stage fright, for sure.

"That's too bad," Sophie commented, slightly genuine, "Maybe one day you could sing for me."

"Um . . . What else do you do?" Pierce asked, and Sophie raised an eyebrow, "I mean . . . besides music. Other hobbies?"

Ah, this question. Sophie looked out the window and thought about it. It sure was a damper outside. She usually trekked carefully around this one, especially after the first time she had disclosed too much information.

"I write a lot, like to be outside . . . I also enjoy activities that have me active. I'm a fairly decent swimmer, which is one of the reasons I didn't drown yesterday." She almost felt sorry for the poor souls who did. Looking over at Pierce, Sophie internally frowned. "You seem unwell." she commented, "Are you okay?" Briefly, Sophie wondered if she was causing Pierce to be nervous, and the thought brought her a little pleasure.

THERE'S a STIRRING INSIDE of ME.

That's too bad, " Sophie commented, Maybe one day you could sing for me.

Pierce refrained from responding to that comment. That would never happen. She sang in front of no one and that was the way it would remain. Plus, Pierce was pretty sure she was a terrible singer. There had never been anyone to say otherwise, but it was just a feeling she had. The change in conversation was just what she needed, but it looked as if Sophie might have felt otherwise. She was probably imagining it.

I write a lot, like to be outside . . . I also enjoy activities that have me active. I'm a fairly decent swimmer, which is one of the reasons I didn't drown yesterday. Sophie told her. She was going to comment on how she liked to swim too, and garden, but then the other girl spoke before she had the opportunity. You seem unwell. she commented, Are you okay?

I'm fine, she replied rather hastily.

Good day ladies. Sleep well?

M-morning, Pierce replied. Her breath caught in her throat as Adrian sat down. Her face flushed red and she could feel numbness spreading throughout her limbs. Maybe now would be a good time to leave, but it wasn't like she had anything else she could do. Plus, it would probably look like she was running away--that was kind of the point of leaving, but still. All of her stuff was gone. Calling her mom would be pointless because she would be at work. Or would she? Mom knew I was coming home. Would she be sitting at home waiting for me after hearing the news about the ferry crash? Pierce chewed on her cheek some more before lifting her gaze to the counselor. F-fine. H-how did you sl-sleep? She stammered, ripping her eyes away from the red head.

"I'm fine," Pierce said too quickly, and Sophie thought she was lying. Before she could call her out on it -

"Good day, ladies. Sleep well?"

Another voice entered the mix, and one that Sophie wasn't pleased to hear because it had interrupted their conversation. When she looked up to see who had joined them, she almost laughed.

It was that girl's brother, Adrian. Sophie hadn't seen Tonitrui in the inn at all, and assumed she had died. If that was true, then Adrian would probably be in a rather susceptible state that was just ripe for the picking.

"M - Morning." Pierce replied, seeming even more nervous, and Sophie raised an eyebrow, wondering what the change in mood was for. Probably because he just got here. "F - Fine. H - How did you s - sleep?" She guessed it wasn't odd for people to stammer when they were nervous. Sophie usually did her best to give people she was interested in the benefit of the doubt -- of course, that had failed her before, and she had still yet to learn her lesson.

"Well enough," Sophie replied. "Pierce and I share a room." She picked up her pen and began to skillfully twirl it between her fingers, "So Adrian, how is your sister? I haven't seen her around since the ferry." She didn't outwardly smile, as her face was curious, but she was interested in the sorry human's fate.

M-morning, f-fine. H-how did you sl-sleep?
"Well enough, Pierce and I share a room."

Adrian gave a small smirk, glad to be acknowledged, and responded, "I slept on the floor. That much I know. But overall, glad that I ain't dead yet."
But Adrian wasn't really glad. He was still sad over Toni's death. He lowered his eyes to his food, and played with it, going on.

"So Adrian, how is your sister? I haven't seen her around since the ferry."

"I'm still upset about this entire thing. I mean, first, a fire spreads through Fortissimo, then, our ferry sinks to the depths of the ocean, along with my sister." He said it casually, but then paled as he realized what he said, dropping his fork. He then narrowed his eyes, and picked up the fork, and chewed some of his breakfast, and spoke again.

"I can not believe I just blurted that out." He grunts, "My sister was the one thing in the world that made me be who I am, now I got no one else for comfort, other than my violin and guitar, which are both at the bottom of the ocean with my sister's carcass." His voice sounded like he was spitting acid now.

Erik walked around the inn in frustration. He was the second oldest person in their group and he was feeling completely useless. He needed to get his kids back to where they rightfully belonged--which was not here. His foot kicked the baseboard on one of the walls when no one was looking. He needed to vent out his frustration somehow and the wall was currently the only thing nearby. He sighed. If only the fog would clear up he could probably go talk to someone in town, at least get the scoop on the Grants from the locals. That would ease his conscience remotely if he knew what kind of people they were. He hated making assumptions, but his gut was screaming that it was time to go.

Maybe it was time to gather up Julius, Tucker, and Bryan? The four of them should make some sort of plan for getting home. It would be best to do it sooner rather than later. His stomach growled, reminding him of the last time he had eaten. It had been nearly a day. He could slip into the dining room, grab something quick to eat, and then begin his search for the other three. It's not like it would take that much extra time. Erik sighed and slipped his way into the dining room.

There were already three heads in there eating breakfast and accounted for. He nodded at them before reaching over the table to grab an apple. There wasn't time to sit down and relax. He needed to go and get stuff taken care of--he needed a smoke. "Mornin' kids," he said as he slipped out of the room as quickly as he came in.

Pierce and I share a room. Pierce watched as she picked up her pen and began to twirl it. So Adrian, how is your sister? I haven't seen her around since the ferry.

Pierce had noticed that too. She thought she had heard some sort of outburst from him last night about his sister, but she had been in such a daze she probably missed most of it. her head was low as she fumbled with the food on her plate, picking at it with the fork.

I'm still upset about this entire thing. I mean, first, a fire spreads through Fortissimo, then, our ferry sinks to the depths of the ocean along with my sister. He said it casually, but then paled. I can not believe I just blurted that out. Adrian grunted. A cold awkwardness spread over the room and she looked up at him. Pierce had barely heard Erik's arrival and departure. All of her attention was on the boy sitting at the table with them. Her throat felt constricted and dry. She tried to loosen some of the tension with the apple juice in her cup, but it did little as her chest constricted. Pierce longed to reach out and give him a comforting touch of the arm or something of that nature, but it seemed inappropriate and she didn't believe he would want something like that from her anyway, no matter what his sister had told her. Toni seemed far too abrasive and meddlesome. She had probably been messing with her head.

Pierce felt terrible having such ill thoughts about someone that had just died. She bit her lip and her brown eyes flashed up at him. She would float... she muttered before realizing how terrible that sounded. It was the truth, but still so very very wrong and out of place.

Stratana rolled in the last remnants of her sleep to find the very edge of the bed, and fell with a heavy thump onto the floor, face forward. Begrudgingly, she rose to her feet by supporting herself on the bedside table where her fingers met with a small slip of parchment that had been left there. Stratana read it and read the side note that gave the sender: Lexi. 'Uh oh... breakfast.' As tired and hungry as she was, Stratana did not favor the idea of pigging out any time soon. She rolled the paper between her fingers, trying to think of what to do. Her tummy said go, but her slightly protruding belly said no. When she took the side of the bothersome belly, the tummy offered a loud rebuttal by forcing Stratana to double over with growling hunger pains. "Ohhh..." She tried to fight it, but found the effort no use. She dressed in a thin but form-hiding sweater along with a pair of plain sweatpants. Oddly enough, she'd never owned such clothing, but did not question it as she jumped into them to head downstairs.

It wasn't long before she spotted Lexi, and the oddest thing happened when she saw her... she wasn't as painfully hungry as she'd been up in the room... the realization of this somewhat unsettled her as to what reason there could be, as she couldn't find one.

Sebastian awoke with a warm impression still about his middle, as though he was enwrapped for the better part of the evening. "That dream..." He thought back. So vivid. But it made sense. He never really knew Alice's parents, because she just talked about them, so he knew their names. His mind had created voices to suit them, and his memory of the fire had brought his subconscious to the idea Alice had perished by fire. But... why did it have to be a dream. He hung his head as he sat in his bed, feeling the worst he'd ever felt. He wanted so much for it to have been real... for her to be okay.

Something grazed her face. Maria's eyelids slowly fluttered open and light poured in. She blinked a few times, letting her eyes adjust, and then realized her hand had bumped her cheek. Her mind was foggy and her eyes wandered aimlessly, taking in the surroundings. Where was she? She lifted her hand to her mouth as she yawned and pulled herself upright. A sharp pain ran up her left side and she crumpled into a zigzag shape on the bed, clutching her side. A moan escaped her pale lips and she felt something foreign under her hands. Gingerly, she lifted the too large shirt that didn't belong to her--where did it come from?--to find that a large bandage had been wrapped around her abdomen. Her fingers trailed along the edge of her body and she felt what she thought must have been stitches. What happened?

She pulled herself up more carefully this time, making sure to keep her back straight. A pill bottle sat on the nightstand a foot away and she reached for it. The label read Vicodin and she unscrewed the cap, swinging her legs out of the comfy bed. Where am I? It was some sort of guest room, as far as she could tell. Maria carried the open pill bottle over to the bathroom. It had been used recently. Her stomach churned and she set the bottle down on the counter. Two glasses were sitting beside the sink and she picked one up, holding it under the running faucet. It filled quickly and she took two large gulps of fresh water, plucking a pill out of the bottle, and swallowing it down as well. Her side throbbed painfully and she set the glass back down on the counter.

Her hands wrapped around the edge of the counter and she looked herself in the mirror. She was a mess. Her blond hair was a wild tangled mess of bed head, dark purple circles clung to the underside of her eyes, there were small knicks on her face and her arms were bruised. Her throat burned, but the water helped with it. She felt sluggish and heavy, like there were weights hanging from her shoulders. Vague clips of memories drifted in and out of her consciousness. She remembered the fire and leaving the camp. The bus ride had been dull and filled with stupid boys clinging to her every dumb word. Honestly, she didn't understand why guys were so into the dumb girls. It was exhausting pretending to be an airhead all the time. It's what made talking to girls more appealing. She didn't have to pretend to be stupid because girls like to keep other intelligent girls around.

Her eyes were bloodshot from wearing her contacts for--how long? She needed her suitcase and purse. There would be saline solution for her contacts, eyedrops for her eyes, and her glasses in her purse. She could change out of these hidious clothes that she had not dressed herself in once she opened her suitcase. Maria turned on her heel and rentered the bedroom, only to find that a backpack was the only thing in the room with her, along with some clothes that clearly belonged to a guy. Was I kidnapped? She returned to the mirror and tried to refocus her attention. What happened after the bus? Her head ached and she hoped the pain killers would kick in sooner rather than later. The bus took them to the ferry. She remembered that. Maria remembered seeing Noëlle as soon as she boarded the boat. The smell of salt water had pricked her nose and she had breathed in a deep relaxing breath of fresh air after getting off that dank and stuffy bus. Noëlle. Talking to her had been nice. It was something she rarely did.

What happened next? Piecing her memory together was painful. There was something about water and she vaguely remembered drowning, but she hadn't drown in a few years. That couldn't have been right. She blinked and shook her head. There was nothing on her to fix her hair. Maria sighed before exiting the bathroom. Maybe someone else knows what happened next. She found a key card sitting in the room and walked out barefoot.

The hall rounded to the left. According to the room number on the door, she was in 211. Was she at a hotel? As she came around the corner, her feet padding lightly on the carpeted floor, she heard voices. Maria gulped nervously, not sure of what might happen. To her surprise, there were two very familiar figures in the hall outside of someone's room, along with someone she didn't recognize. A flutter in her chest further proved that she knew the two of them in the hall. Um- her voice cracked, Bryan? Noëlle? She sounded unsure of herself and appeared rather small and fragile in the clothes that didn't belong to her and the unkept weakened state that she was in.

Can someone tell me what's going on? Maria winced in pain as her elbow grazed the spot on her side. She crossed her arms and bit down hard on her lip to suppress the urge to cry out from the pain. That seemed vaguely familiar. Had she done it before? Ow, she muttered softly. Her ice blue eyes were filled with fear and pain. She had no idea what was going on, where she was, or how she got hurt. Did something happen to the ferry?
