xxxxxxxxxx To be honest, Kallisti was surprised; she didn't think that Madeline would actually talk to any of them, yet here they were. She was roughly the same height as the other girl, but she stood behind her, trying not to let anyone who might be on the stage get a look at her. Brian didn't seemed to pleased at their appearance, but she probably guessed that he didn't like Madeline and vise versa. Regardless, Kallisti stood quietly by, listening in on the conversation while staying out of plain sight.

It was a silly thought, but she didn't play Assassin's Creed obsessively on some days just for no reason.

" Have you seen . . . Yunalina, today? " . . . Yunalina? That was a bit funny - perhaps Madeline had forgotten her name, so she didn't comment on it. Her thoughts quickly traveled to her phone back in the Orchestra Hall. Perhaps she should go get it - anything to get out of the auditorium and away from . . . him. Why was he in here, anyway? She felt her stomach folding in on itself; how unnerving. Still, she couldn't just leave Madeline in here because she knew the girl might resent her if she did.

She decided to stay put for now.

Brian seemed a little troubled. Chase frowned and was about to offer assistance when Madeline came in. He immediately lost his train of thought. At first just shocked by the sudden noise. Eventually he summoned the courage to speak "I haven't seen Yuna around. In fact I haven't seen many people today now I think about it..." Chase stopped and his widened. The storm, the lock down, the sudden lack of people...It could mean...Crestatia. "What are you doing now? I get the feeling being alone isn't a great idea right now" Chase looked around nervously.

Abby had been so thrilled about Elizabeth agreeing to be her friend. She knew it was a bit unorthodox and that wasn't usually how things worked but she wasn't used to really having friends. She knew Tyler considered them to be friends now, which she loved so much but on the whole it was something she'd never had many off. Not by her own choosing either. It's just now more than ever, friends was what she needed, people she could trust and would stand by her through the tough times. She hoped she'd have the chance to stand by them in turn. That was why she'd asked Elizabeth, it might be a small thing but to Abby it meant a lot.

Despite this, after Elizabeth had agreed she went quiet once more. She didn't want to tell her new friend why she was so scared from the news and without that the conversation seemed to halt. She hadn't actually told anyone her secret before but she'd never really had anyone close enough and trustworthy enough to share it with. Left alone with her thoughts, all the worse case scenarios were conjured up in her mind, each one worse than the last. But before she got too worked up again, she felt her phone softly vibrate. Fishing out her phone, seeing Tyler's name alone made her smile. By the time she got to the end of the message, she'd calmed down a fair amount. It felt good to know somebody cared.

She replied as fast as she could and sent it quickly before turning back to Elizabeth. The other girl seemed to be ringing someone, Abby heard everything on this end but she couldn't really understand much of it bar it was to Anthony and it was over very fast. Afterwards she was quiet for a moment before asking, "Everything alright?".

Cherno watched intently, unmoving, as Temperance attempted to grab the water and her pills-- there was something else too, but he couldn't really see it. She downed them quickly. Cherno scanned her closely, now that his mind was clearer.

    int logic( ) {

Her posture seemed hunched and protective. All for nausea? It's entirely possible it may be due to the entire state they were in. Everything that had happened so far would probably leave anyone with sickening sensations. Poor Temperance. Cherno filed that possibility away as the First Possibility.

It is entirely possible she was being hunched and protective of her actions regarding this illness because she didn't want anyone to know anything. Cherno reflected on the way she worded things. Hmm. They were indeed a bit apprehensive -- in the way that someone does not want another to know a secret. But what possible secret could she even hide?

Immense nausea. Not many other symptoms he had observed yet, but for something like nausea she seemed extremely protective and concerned. Which sort of affliction would make someone so extremely con ... cerned ...

    ...

    Huh.

Cherno filed away this interesting development as the Second Possibility.

He looked further for answers. She was always a bit like this, when sick? No, she acted differently. It was definitely an outstanding case, something he had never seen in her before, or had seen signs of before. He would need to get more information. Perhaps observe her actions more.

    }

Temperance broke him out of his state of deduction by resting her head next to his knee. Who was this girl?! He almost jumped at the surprise. Shit. He probably looked worse than he did at Lacey's right now.

"We need to change. We'll get sick if we don't dry off." She said. Good point. Cherno nodded his head in agreement. There has to be clothing here somewhere if this was a designated evacuation zone. She let out a light cough. Poor girl, she had been suffering through this that much as well, huh?

    int logic( ) {
... Cherno. No. Stop. You ass. Do not pet her head. Do not even think about trying to comfort her like that. She is Temperance and she will bite you.

    }

But that gave Cherno an interesting thought. Was Temperance still the same Temperance? The bullying cheerleader? She seemed so ... different. Perhaps his idea of her masklike tendencies had some fruit after all.

"Cherno," She then mumbled softly. "Why is it so empty?"

    ...

    Why was it so empty?

    "Uh,"

    -1(school) | bellhurst negative -- school's darkside

Temperance had a point. The police said that this would be the site for evacuation in much of the area. And yet, here only they were, as if -- as if separated from everyone else.

"You ... you have a point."

The silence within this part of the school was almost terrifying. Only drops of water from outside -- and it seemed, even inside the school, from the leaking ceilings, were the only noises they heard. The hallways were darkened and inky shadows seemed to bar either end. Heck, in this darkness it was already hard enough to see Temperance. Off in the distance, a single lights flickered on and off, desperately clinging to life. They had the generator on. That means there are, or were people.

"That light," Cherno pointed towards the one flickering light off in the other end of the hallway. "Hah. They've got the generator on." Crack. A strike of thunder. "The rest of the hallway is filled with darkness. H--haha, I'd-- I'd rather follow that lightened path. It could imply there are some people, you dig?"

"What's more, it leads to some of the larger parts of the school. Like the-- like the library, and the auditorium."

Madeline walked into the auditorium looking for Yuna. She asked if the group was okay, but Aileen did not know how exactly to reply to that. She wasn't okay, but she wasn't doing terrible. She decided to let Brian answer.

"It's too quiet around here. I haven't seen anyone not on the list since I woke up..." Madeline said. She was right. It was quiet. There weren't very many people in the auditorium, but even yesterday, there was some noise. Today...it was near silent. Where could everyone else have gone? I have a bad feeling about this... She frowned.

Madeline took a seat behind them and asked if they had seen Yuna. Aileen shook her head, but Madeline did not seem to notice. Maybe it was too dark. Aileen looked over at Brian. He didn't seem to happy that Madeline had joined- she could tell from his aura. Aileen was not too fond of her either, but she didn't have anything personal against her. Madeline just did not seem like the person she would get along with.

"What are you doing now? I get the feeling being alone isn't a great idea right now," suggested Chase. Aileen agreed.

"He's right, if anything..."Aileen paused for a second, and mentally apologized to Brian. I'm so so so sorry. "If anything, you could stay here with us." Aileen waited for her reply. But I swear, if she ignores my offer, or pretends not to hear me....

xxxxxxxxxx The tense atmosphere was felt doubly for Kallisti. The three in front of here - Brian and Aileen, at the very least - were almost obvious in their dislike for Madeline, but she didn't know if her companion could tell. Then there was herself, constantly worrying about that wretched stage . . . Why did they have to be in here? She didn't know how much more she could take of this . . . But she wouldn't leave Madeline. It felt like the murmur of the auditorium was dying down, and she started to become slightly paranoid - she didn't do well in large crowds, there were just too many people, and it reminded her of that very small space in . . . in that house.

Chase spoke up, breaking Kallisti's stream of thought. She was almost grateful, " What are you doing now? " he asked the two of them, " I get the feeling being alone isn't a great idea right now. " She then looked to Aileen, who agreed. She was a quiet one and for that, Kallisti was almost happy, but when she caught her flashing a look of extreme distress at Brian, she frowned, " If anything, you could stay here with us. " she told the two of them.

Ah, so that was what it was. Brian didn't like Madeline, and by the chances, Aileen didn't think too fondly of her either - but they were all right. Being alone didn't seem like such a good idea, but the last time there was more than a few of them together . . .

Still . . . " I do not think it a horrid idea, " she replied softly, " At least there is some light in here, and - " A clod of black moved across the stage and she looked up, her heart banging against her rib cage for just one single moment. There he was. Looking straight at her.

She felt sick, and then she remembered her phone - the perfect excuse to get out of here! But Madeline, she prayed Madeline wouldn't mind, maybe she should invite her along? She didn't think it a good idea to leave her here with these three, it felt like a disaster waiting to happen, so she spoke again, this time with less elegance, a little panic, and some rush, " I have f - forgotten my phone, and I need to retrieve it as soon as I can, for my father, " she told the group, almost stumbling on her words. He was getting off the stage, he was coming towards them, her words felt even more rushed and she sounded even more panicked. Her throat tightened up a little as she remember his breath on her neck, she needed to get out of here, now! " Itisintheorchestraroomand Ineedtogetitnow Madelinewouldyouliketocomewithme?! " she forced out, his every step meaning her rising fear.

Almost not waiting for an answer ( she almost hoped Madeline would come with her ) - he was fifteen feet away, Kallisti turned on her heel and rushed out of the auditorium, and as soon as she reached the dark hall, which was being slightly lit with the dark gray of the flooded outside, she set out at a run, feeling that tears might spill. This was public, and she was ashamed - she only hoped Madeline would come with her, or at least have not noticed - and not hate her, and that he wasn't following.

    She couldn't be so lucky.

Temperance nodded her head against his leg, rubbing her hair on his wet knee. Her eyelids remained closed and she mumbled something intangible. Sleep. That's what she wanted most right now. Sleep, and for the nausea to disappear. Would it ever end? She needed to look inside the box, but it wasn't safe. Not here, not with him. Temperance would have to be alone. Alone. She didn't want to be alone again, not after what happened. Being alone was terrifying, water too. Could she ever face the watery depths again? It was hard to say at this moment.
"Clothes. Hmm...the locker room. I have...I have my practice gear in the locker room." Her eyelids slowly opened and she smiled up at him, green eyes piercing golden. "You'll come with me right? The school is kind of creepy right now." She smirked. Now she was messing with him. Cherno was so awkward, she already picture how nervous he would be. Alone in the girls locker room. Temperance suppressed the urge to let out the chuckle she held inside. He was being all 'knight in shining armor.' He wouldn't let her go alone, would he?
After his dramatic entrance into the gas station, it seemed unlikely. She hoped it was unlikely. Alone. Such a simple five letter word. She hadn't felt that alone since, well, since the last time she saw him. The next encounter was going to be horrifying. She needed to check the box, to be sure. Until she knows for sure, it's just a bug. That's a simple easy explanation. Even she can't mess that up. It was believable. Another small cough escaped her and she yawned. How long would it be until they could sleep?
Temperance slowly pulled herself back up to her feet and slipped the purse over her shoulder. Her legs shook unsteadily below her, but she managed. Her feet took cautious steps towards the dim flickering lights and she smiled back at him. "You're coming right? You won't let me go by myself?" She held out a hand for him to take. He would walk with her, whether he wanted to or not.

With a relaxed sigh Altair finished off his bowl of soup and placed the bowl down "well that will satisfy me for a good while" Altair said with a calm smile as he walked down the hallways. At this point Altair could only question himself about what he could do as he was trapped in the school. There really wasn't much to do and he questioned whether he should seek out the others in the email. What were they to him? friends? allies? or merely acquaintances...the latter sounded the most accurate. Closing his eyes with a sigh, Altair continued to walk down the dark halls up until he hears some footsteps

"hm? whats that" Altair said opening his eyes and glanced ahead at the figure heading towards him at a pretty fast speed. Once he noticed the incoming figure Altair 's eyes began to widen. "EHH QU-QUINT-" Altair began to yell and stopped mid way as the two collided into each other. Falling to the ground, let out a loud groan "d-damn my luck" Altair said.

Oh dear god, what did Cherno get himself into. He looked down and let out an exasperated sigh. Temperance certainly was something. From her smirk, he could tell she was having a little fun playing around with his expressions. But she had a point. He was not leaving that girl alone right now. She already almost got herself killed earlier, and even in this school -- ugh, if some of the same students were here, they would probably try attacking her themselves what with the lack of supervision, and her usual posse to back her up. Cherno wasn't letting any more ridiculous injuries to happen. He looked at his hand. It was a bit limp from the numbness of the painkillers.

"Right. Right. Of course I'll come. I shouldn't need to leave you alone in this tripped up hood. I'll uh -- stay in this, I guess. I'm fine with the wet clothing. For now. I'd rather you not try anything silly in there though." He cast off a vaguely suspecting smirk right back at her. "I'll be keeping guard near the door inside the room. Let's hope nobody sees a wet doppelganger like me there."

He stood up. It was getting late. The rain rapped against the walls and ceiling of the entire building, and it was left in a degenerate state of white noise. Cherno looked at the time on his phone.

    Then he had an idea.

He texted Johnathan, asking if he was okay, and where he was. He then turned to Temperance.

"Temperance, do you have the numbers of anyone involved in this ... e-mail jivestomp?"

" I do not think it a horrid idea, " someone replied quietly. It was definitely not Madeline. Had someone come in with her? Aileen tried her best to recognize the voice. The person spoke again, " At least there is some light in here, and - " Mid-sentence, Aileen assumed that the person was Quin. She paused before finishing her sentence and looked up. Is she staring at something on the stage?

Quin then mentioned that she had to retrieve her phone, in somewhat of a rush. She also mumbled something even quicker, but the only thing Aileen could catch in the sentence was Madeline's name. Perhaps she asked Madeline to go along with her. Quin seemed panicked, while waiting for Madeline's reply. Aileen looked around the auditorium to see what was bothering her so much, but could not see anything suspicious. But then again, she didn't see Quin walk in with Madeline, so she was not one to judge. Why is my night vision so bad?

Temperance tapped her pointer finger to her lips briefly and thought over the question. "Anyone from the list...just your's I think." She gave him a wink and reached for her phone in the breast pocket. Upon further inspection, she noticed that it appeared to be intact-- it was more then she could say about her car. It had to have been trashed. She sighed and scrolled through the contact list, remembering all those in the email.
She had no use for their numbers. The only reason she even had his was for that project they had together last year. Temperance shook her head no, confirming what she had already voiced. Her eyes caught sight of the tumblr logo and she smiled to herself. "You came to save me. That post. You had to have read it, right?" She looked up at him with a thankful expression. If it wasn't for him heroically swooping in at the last possible second to save her, she would have drown, or froze. That, did make her laugh. Life wasn't a movie, and yet, that moment couldn't have been more like it. "It's...it's almost comical. The way you came bursting in that is."
Temperance rounded a corner and stood outside the locker room doors. There was a hall entrance to the locker rooms, but they both had adjoining entrances to the gym. She stared at the door briefly before pushing it open and turning to face him. A sly smile crept across her face and she bit her lip to wipe it away. "Are you coming in?"

"What are you doing now? I get the feeling being alone isn't a great idea right now"

"If anything, you could stay here with us."

She was about to reluctantly agree and then Quin freaked out for some reason. She followed her gaze back to the stage, but she saw nothing. This was...Unlike her.
    Madeline stood up and turned her back to the other's. She parted her lips to say something and then;

    " Itisintheorchestraroomand Ineedtogetitnow Madelinewouldyouliketocomewithme?!

Quin left the auditorium. What was...that?

She completely ignored the other's at first but then remembered that she may need them. She wanted to go after Quin, but...She wondered if it would be more or less awkward going as a group. Still, she had this nagging suspicion that splitting up again would only result in more drama. This was a good opportunity to start moving together.

Her legs shook as she navigated out of the row she sat in and back onto the steps leading down to the stage.

This was all beginning to be way too much for her. Too much was happening and changing. She didn't understand anything and she hated it. The lack of control. Her stomach tied together in knots. How much more of this could she take? She wondered where Thomas was.

Madeline's eyes burned terribly as she turned towards the trio again.

"Follow if you want...I don't think we should all be split up but I don't know." Her voice wavered as she shrugged in defeat. "I really don't know."

She wasn't sure they'd even be able to hear her, but she pulled the doors back open and walked quickly on wobbly legs in the direction of the Orchestra Hall. It was still terribly dark (with a small bit of light coming from outside) and the halls were basically empty. She felt a little frightened, actually. She didn't usually mind the darkness, but it was just eerie. She felt as though someone could sneak up behind her through the darkness and slit her throat.

    Dear God.

...Someone could be following her right now.

    "EHH QU-QUIN-"
Madeline shrieked, loudly, and swiveled around to stare wide-eyed behind her and into the darkness.

Then it occurred to her that Quin could be in danger, and she felt horribly, disgustingly conflicted with what to do. Part of her wanted to run back to the auditorium, but the other--somehow more dominate part--was pushing her forward in the direction of the sound.

She was trembling when she reached them. She couldn't see a damn thing. Just shadows illuminated slightly by a lone flickering light.

"Q-Quin? Are you...Are you okay?" Are you dead? Who was the other person?

    She needed a weapon.

    She didn't have one.

She could kill with her hands, if she needed to.

    She had experience, after all.

xxxxxxxxxx She felt it before she had known what had happened. Kallisti just knew she couldn't be so lucky to have this go smoothly for her, and before she could even give a damn about whoever she collided with, she looked behind her for two things; the loud scream, and the cause of her panic. She heard Madeline's voice, and then everything was okay - in the dark, she couldn't spot the other, but she saw Madeline's small figure not too far away from her.

" S - she followed after all . . . " Kallisti thought, tears welling up in her eyes. Well. Almost. She was in the pretense of someone else, after all, and crying was something she did not do in front of other people, " I am here, Madeline, " she called out in a more measured tone, getting up from the ground, " It is alright, I am okay. Are you okay? "

While she waited for an answer, she turned back to the person she had collided with - Altair. She raised her dark eyebrows at him; what was he doing wandering the halls while it was still dark? " Excuse me, " she told him, outstretching her hand to the other cautiously, " I was . . . I was in a hurry to the Orchestra Hall and I did not even remember to watch where I was going. Forgive me. Are you alright? " she asked, looking over her shoulder once more, and less apprehensive than before.

She was completely calm now - he wouldn't dare come near her with other people around. At least, she was almost 100% sure of that . . . But Madeline - what if he was following her? Had he seen her leave the auditorium after Kallisti? " Oh god, oh god . . . " she thought in a rush, and then turned back to Altair, " Excuse me, for just one moment, " and she quickly back tracked, to find a shaky-looking Madeline, and Harley nowhere in sight - " Thank you . . . " she thought to herself, " Madeline, are you alright? " she asked, while it was dark around them, " Please forgive me, I just - I just had to leave the auditorium - I should have - have done it in a more subtle manner . . . " Dear god, what was she bumbling about, " Are you okay? "

Everything was okay - for now. He was gone, and Kallisti only focused on the two around her.

Madeline walked quickly out of the auditorium to follow Quin. Before leaving the room, she said something to the trio, but she was so far that Aileen couldn't hear whatever she said. Aileen frowned. So much for additions to our group...
Her stomach growled loudly. She hadn't eaten since lunch, yesterday, and even then, she had an extremely small meal. It felt like someone was ripping her stomach into two. She brought her feet up onto the seat of the chair, and hugged her knees to try to reduce the pain. It was not helping. Aileen squirmed in her seat to try to find her containers of pain killers and bottle of water that she kept in her bag. Once finding them she swallowed the pill, as calmly as she could. I hope they don't think I'm crazy.
"Guys, if you don't mind, I think I'm just going to sleep..." Aileen said. She put on her headphones, put her playlist on repeat, then drifted off to sleep.

Altair just groaned as he was knocked down, it was a miracle that his wounds hadn't reopened at this point, but for now he had to endure. Sitting up a bit Altair glanced up as Quintus offered him a hand. Accepting her help, Altair grabbed her hand and lifted himself up "its alright, I should have been more careful...I'll manage" Altair said as he rose to his feet. Letting go of her hand he immediately used his cane to balance himself. Upon hearing Quintus excuse herself Altair glance up at the girl "ah no probl-.....oh she is already gone" Altair said quietly. Taking a step forward, dizziness soon found itself assaulting the teen and he soon found himself staggering into the lockers with a big bang "M-My bad" Altair yelled out to inform the others that he was the source of the bang. Resting his body and head on the locker, Altair groaned "Frig my life" Altair said quietly.

    Just his.

Right, that project from a long time ago. Back when he thought Temperance was a crazy witch. Back when -- ergh, never mind that phase. He let out another sigh. They would have to get through everything quickly and reach -- wherever. Shoot. At least the school plan was fairly memorable. At least, from Cherno's entire time in this crazy place.

"You came to save me. That post. You had to have read it, right?"

    What?

Oh. Of course he did. Because he was an idiot who made her go in the first place and decided to walk in the rain to get his beloved painkillers before everything went to hell.

"I did." Cherno replied. "The pharmacy had connection. The electricity brothers and sisters were able to keep up the internet in some of these places for a few minutes just enough to get the police to know about as many stranded people as possible."

The pharmacy. Cherno shuddered. When the flooding began, everything slowly began to burst into chaos. It was terrible. The screams. The panicked yells. Shelves were being knocked down. Cherno had to hide in a corner, away from the riff-raff -- lest, lest he would break down again. But it was good he did hide there. If he fainted, Temperance would have died. He would have not even had the ability to check his phone. With his bleeding hand. Those goddamn painkillers -- they almost ran out.

"It's...it's almost comical. The way you came bursting in that is." She said.

Cherno chuckled to try and lighten the mood a bit. "Sometimes, y'know, life is more like a movie than you think. It can be like ... like a big stage, a big roleplay, where--" He held out his arms for emphasis. "All the world's a stage, and all men and women merely players."

Oh shit. What if his Shakespeare collection was ruined from this rain? Cherno let out an audible gasp as he realized this, dropping his arms, but quickly hid his grief.

They made it to the locker room. What an unfamiliar part of the school. Cherno decided he would make note of everything here.

"Are you coming in?" Temperance said slyly.

    ...

    ... Fuck.

Cherno was thankful much of his blushing was hid by the darkness. A few lights flickered off in the distance, and the bleak rain emphasized the silence. He lowered his eyebrows and looked away, with a mix of irritation and flustered pouting. He quickly regained his composure. Entering the female change room. He was raised a gentleman, dammit!

"Y--yeah, of course. I have no choice, you know." He turned back and raised his eyebrows, chuckling slightly. "Change quickly, sister. We don't know what could be lurking in there -- or anywhere. And this time I don't have any metal pipe to break through glass with."

"And remember to keep to yourself," He quickly added. "Nothing to alert our presence until we know who is still in here."

"And remember, keep to yourself." Temperance chuckled patted him lightly on the cheek.
"Of course." She grinned and spun on her heel, moving deeper into the locker room. It was quiet and dark. Temperance had to use the light of her phone to guide her to the designated locker at the back of the damp cool room. It seemed no matter what time of day, the locker room always felt slightly damp. She turned down a fourth row of lockers and finally noticed the familiar sparkle of glitter on the cheerleader wing.
All the lockers were decorated in signs that read each squad member's name in glitter. Her's was green. The glittery sheet read "Temp" and her fingers searched for the lock. She always had it rigged to open without entering in the combination. Combinations were a pain that she hated memorizing. The lock separated from the latch instantly and fell to the ground. There was a loud clang from metal hitting cement and she stumbled back to avoid it hitting her feet. "Sorry! Dropped my lock."
The red locker door creaked open and she began to take off the layers of wet clothes, setting them on the bench behind her. "No peeking Cherno!" She felt better already, not having the wet stickiness attached to her body. Temperance riffled through the locker and pulled out a tank-top and a pair of spandex shorts. It wasn't the warmest, but it would have to do. She sat down on the bench and kicked off the soaking wet shoes and peeled of the socks. It felt nice not having her feet pruney and constricted anymore. She rubbed her feet and then moved to change into the dry clothes.
Temperance smiled and slipped on a pair of dry tennis shoes. She started to throw everything into her locker quickly when she noticed her purse. She was relatively alone. Now would probably be the most ideal time. Her hand reached into the bag and pulled out the box. The light of the phone shined down on it and her heart began to pound again. Her fingers felt around inside the box and pulled out the white stick. She wrapped her hand around it tightly and took in a deep breath.
Her green eyes stared down at the end of the stick. It was so hard to read. What was two lines? She looked at the back of the box confused. Right. Two lines was pregnant. Wait...pregnant. Temperance wanted to cry. She knew it was coming, but to actually see it, that was another thing. She tossed all her belongings, except for her phone, into the locker furiously and ran back to Cherno. There were tears beginning to form again, but hopefully he couldn't see it in the dark. "You...you should really change. I know Josh's combination." Temperance sighed and choked back the sob. "Let's get you dry clothes."

"Of course," Temperance replied, patting his cheek and walking away to the other side of the room. He stayed set by the door.

Cherno lightly touched the spot she tapped with his good hand. He never expected Temperance to be so silly and flirtatious from how he knew her. Then again, she did say that "romance was in her blood" all those days before. How many days had it been anyway? His phone said it was still the same day he escaped from the pharmacy, but to him it felt more like a hundred grueling days had passed on that raft.

He looked around the change room with a sense of apprehensiveness. He was ... he was in the girls' change room. God damnit. Butterflies! Those were-- those were definitely butterflies in his stomach. He didn't feel nauseous like Temperance. But he felt wary. Careful. As if even in this state of isolation from any authority he was still not supposed to be here. A--And he wasn't! Nope! Jesus christ, Cherno, what has gotten into you?

Temperance had turned on the flashlight of her phone to guide herself through the locker room. The first thing that Cherno noticed was that it was extremely ... damp. Ugh. But it seemed cleaner than the ... than the boys' change room. The air smelled a bit nice as well, for a change room. Was that bergamot? Super fly. Cherno let out a deep sigh. Thank god. If he had to visit that place again, especially after his traumatic experience with the ... with the things u--under the seat ...

He shook his head rapidly to try and rid of those horrible memories. The room was laid out in such a way that the farthest lockers were invisible from this part of the entrance. Was it an L-shape? He couldn't tell in this darkness, and if he followed Temperance she would probably think of him a pervert. Oh god. Hmm. Cherno continued to scan his surroundings. There seemed to be no other exits save for the door and -- he turned upward. A grate. A vent.

Just a door, and a vent. A door and a vent. People wouldn't climb through the vents, would they? Cherno hoped they would not get into a situation where they would have to do that.

    Clang!

FUCK! Cherno jumped and let out a yelp. What was that?!

"Sorry! Dropped my lock!" Temperance called out from the darkness.

Cherno opened his mouth, about to get into a tirade, but decided against it. He sighed again and settled down. He turned to the door, tracing his finger around the metal handle. With what had gone on so far, everything here could be unpredictable. They all had to re-group somewhere. Maybe the auditorium was a good place ... but, but then again, re-grouping had its risks.

Shit. Lacey's. Cherno still didn't recover from that experience enough, did he? He lowered his eyes and looked at his bandaged hand. It was wet, but the stinging was only minor. Tolerable. He would probably need to replace the bandage soon anyway. Nobody else should see, though. And-- and the entire e-mail itself. Did the others figure out something? He was just about to see what the fine print was on the day before-

    "No peeking Cherno!"

    WHAT.

Cherno jumped. Again. Shit man that scared him. Oh god was that Temperance?! What was she talking about? Was she changing! She was changing! It was clear it was a joke but oh god huh she was changing and he was in the same room shit what happened to his code of ethics during this trip. Temperance couldn't-- couldn't see him blushing! Ha! Haha! Not in this darkness and from her position. Nope. Nope nope. Don't think ridiculous things, Cherno. Don't.

He turned to his phone to settle his rapid-fire thoughts. No reply from Johnathan yet, huh? It was late. He wondered how he could get to sleep among all these ... "heathens". Cherno scoffed at the word. And he couldn't contact anyone else, could he? He scrolled through his contact list. Temperance and Johnathan -- but, no, nobody else he could remember. Unless he deleted people.

    ...

It dawned on Cherno that he was just as separated from this group of friends as Temperance was. But the difference? The difference was that really, he seemed more alone.

He wondered how many of the others, the others who received this e-mail, were in the same position as him.

His thoughts were interrupted as Temperance ran back, seemingly in a rush. She was dressed in rather form-fitting clothing, but-- but Cherno barely noticed, because her ... usually nice green eyes ...

Was she crying? Did something happen? Temperance was never good at hiding her feelings. Then again, she is considered a bully by a good bunch.

"You...you should really change. I know Josh's combination." She let out a sigh. Did she choke back a sob there? "Let's get you dry clothes."

Oh god. In the boys' change room?

    ...

"Uh ... it's, it's alright, I'll manage. There's probably something else here I can wear." He thought back to the lost and found. School infirmary. Science lab. They all had bits and pieces of clothing he could wear. He would have to get them after he knew the state the school was in, though. "There's something more important I need to fly your way, sister."

"Please, tell me what's been affecting you. Those tears. What, exactly, is flying up this creek?"

She stepped closer to Quin, glad she was okay. When she realized it had been Altair she had ran into, her face burned with anger. What was with this guy and intrusions? He was the most clumsy, invasive person she had ever met. How irritating. She was tempted to kick him while he was down in an attempt to ease her anger, but she resisted. He already had a cane. Before she knew it, he was gone again. She almost called out for him--still wanting to stay together--but it was too late.
    "

Please forgive me, I just - I just had to leave the auditorium - I should have - have done it in a more subtle manner . . .

    "
Jeeze, what was wrong with her?
She gazed around them and took a deep breath. Now it was just them again. It seemed no one had decided to follow, which was great and all, except for not. This rain wasn't ending. There had to be something they could do...It didn't matter if Bellhurst was the highest point in Coy City. If this rain wouldn't end, eventually...Everything would be flooded.

Why was she being so shy? They were alone now, right? Something was obviously wrong, so why was M so afraid to ask what?
    "

    Are you okay?

    "
Quin asked her that twice...Was she really that concerned? Or...
"I'm fine..." Madeline was, for the most part. "...Are you...Um. Well, I mean...You seem...uh. Are you...Are you okay?"
How invasive. How pathetic. How genuine. How horrifying. How terrible.
    She really cared.

Temperance stood there in the dark biting her lip. She stared down at her feet, not making eye contact. Why did he have to ask? Why? She suppressed the urge to cry. She couldn't tell him. He wouldn't...he wouldn't understand. It was repulsive. He would probably leave her too, if she told him.

Temperance shook her head and took a deep breath. She put on a brave face and looked him right in the eyes. "It's nothing. I'm fine, just a little under the weather." She smiled at him and tugged on his wet sleeve. "Comeon. You really need dry clothes. No more arguing or distracting." Temperance tapped her finger lightly on his nose and headed for the door. Just play coy. Everything will be fine that way.
