Temperance's eyes widened in horror as Casey and Laurence rolled the barrel back in place and sealed them away from the outside world. The blanket fell to the floor as she turned on her heel. "What are you doing?!?!" She turned and lunged for the barrel as a loud thud sounded above. Footsteps were heavy above as multiple pairs of boots came pouring into the mansion. Loud voices echoed overhead, but she couldn't make out specifically what any one person said. Her fingers pried at the barrel. "We can't just leave him!" Olivia was up there as well, but her mind was from thoughts of her. Plus, bird girl could just fly to safety. Cherno was virtually alone up there, aside from the hoard of officers that stormed inside.

"You have to open the door." She was frantic and probably looked ridiculous as she clawed at the too heavy barrel. They wouldn't help her and the noises above them grew louder. She couldn't just leave him--not after everything that had happened.

After all I've gone dancin' through with you, sister, I don't think I'd have it in my heart to ever hate you again.

Her heart twisted up inside her chest. This was ridiculous. She looked ridiculous, but she didn't care. Temperance kept pushing on the barrier, unsuccessfully. They had to help. They had to--tears streaked her face and she wiped at them vigorously. "No. No we can't just leave them!" Her voice was sharp but broken. A choked out sob escaped her throat as she stared absently into the dim lighting. What would happen to him? This whole thing had been a set up from the start.

She spun around facing Casey and her eyes were wild and dangerous. A sinister look crossed her face and her knuckles were turning white from how tightly she clenched her fists. "You." she said pointedly. Temperance's green eyes narrowed in an accusatory. "This is your fault! You brought us here. You trusted those outsiders. You did this to him--them." A warm gentle dainty hand pressed down firmly, but reassuringly. She snapped her attention from Casey to the weird blond German girl yet. "Don't touch me." The girl looked sad as she wrapped her arms around Temperance and with weird strength, pulled her away from the entrance.

xxxxxCherno lost his entire goddamn post so he tried his best to summarize it. Oh well.

    "Don't make a single move."

    How fucking stupid of him.
Cherno stood silently, the wind upon his neck. He crossed his arms behind his back, and tried to retain his frustration at all the soldiers that had filed into his room. Where were the others? Was Temperance okay? How the hell did the soldiers find this house, anyway? The jackboot steps hit loudly against the old wooden floor, and Cherno heard the cock of guns as the soldiers pointed the rifles at his chest.

And he couldn't see a thing. Everything was dark. A cloth sack covered his entire head, with its tightly tied rope biting into his neck.

    How fucking stupid of him.
He was going to die, wasn't he? Haha. After all these challenges and efforts. After all of that, he would fall victim to the ineptitude of the governmental mortal coil. Not something supernatural, but the rifle of a soldier.
    Okay--
    Okay. Okay, Cherno.
    Think.
You can still get out of here. You can. There's always a way. Right?
    Right. Just fucking think.
Cherno clenched his teeth, tilting his head downward. He breathed deeply.

The deep thud of thick boots grew closer. Did someone enter the room?

"This ain't nothin' personal, but swagged-up jack-damned biscuit on the high side. Jesus."

    Wait--
That ... that voice. No, it-- it couldn't be--

    "Prescott."
    "Y--yes, sir-- I-uh, I-- well, you see--"
    "Prescott!"

His voice was bitter with intensity
What the fuck was he doing here?

"Prescott, go call up the department. We've bagged up the lad straight-up hoodin' on the flipside, dawg. Ain't gotta thing. All you other G's better keep your choppers pointed at his skillet-slicin' head."

Cherno heard small, mouselike steps patter off and out of the room.
The wind continued to blow upon his neck.
Think. There must be something. Cherno moved his hand along his back pockets, and dug one into them.
    That's it. That was right!
He felt the cold metal sphere.

The thick boots moved closer to him.

    "Cherno, Cherno, Cherno.
I hope you ain't gonna try anythin' that'll get you filled with lead right then and here, dawg. All of this up in the swag house ain't the shee-it, yeah? Keep yerself civilized and things'll be civilized for you."

He seemed to have a bit of trouble keeping a level tone of voice.
    Ugh.
"Suchet, what the fuck are you doing here? You aren't the Suchet I used to know. I never right out expected you to be jug-hoppin' off on the side to catch a bunch of innocent kids."

The wind blew upon his neck, ever so slightly--
Wait. The wind. He was in front of the window, wasn't he?
    Okay. Okay ...

    He interjected.

"'The Suchet you used to know?' That's rich, real rich, comin' from a snake who ain't even has his memory back! I'm a brother of my job -- you'd know that if you remembered -- and it seems to me you don't really grasp what the house-sheezy knot is bringing up on the flipside."

Cherno took a small step back.
He began to calculate his movements, but it was hard, so hard, as his feelings of frustration slowly began to pour out.
He was going to make a bunch of mistakes, wasn't he?

    "Of course I know!"

Just-- just keep up the charade.

"No, you ain't know a thing, Cherno Plume! Do y'know how many people have let their lives flip up above because of you and your selfish friends? Bombs everywhere, hundreds of thousands dead! Families separated because of some irrelevant botched up badman bombs! I've seen children on the streets, and in their eyes I see how you were, Cherno! Do y'think that I can just stand there livin' while life repeats its cycle of destruction before me?"

    Cherno gulped.
Why was he fucking reminding him that they were all terrible people? ...
He took another step back, but he wanted to punch Suchet in the face. So much.

"You don't think I ****ing know how much damage we've caused?!" Cherno exploded, almost revealing his hands. He stamped the floor loudly, and he felt the soldiers point their rifles at his head quickly. Cherno breathed. It was so hard to calculate anything. Just keep stalling. Just-- just keep stalling. "Haven't you looked for alternatives? This isn't no country where the government just fucking gives in to terrorists!"

"Hahaha! Cherno, you think we ain't been goin' through the pain of looking for alternatives to giving into the unswag ratchet oldbag terrorist ho? You think I ain't personally been up for nights and nights pourin' over ways to negotiate? You--" He paused for a moment. "You think I ain't got no tears in my eyes when I'm forced to chase after them precious names written in clear black ink, "Cherno Plume" and "Olivia Toska Suchet" like the ****ing world is trying to rip my regrets apart and bloat them into metastasized, cancerous tumours on my memory, dawg?"

He heard the concerned murmurs of the soldiers.
Suchet stepped closer, and Cherno took another step back.
The wind was now much stronger upon his neck.
He had his chance. Cherno subtly took the metal sphere out of his pocket.

"This world has gone to them damn dogs and we can't do no thing about it, Cherno. What choice do I've got now when they're breathin' upon our necks and slaughterin' everyone with-- with supernatural precision? Would I let millions die under my guilt and under your guilt, Cherno? You were always selfish, but I never thought you selfish enough to do something like this. Especially, especially after all the times I've looked after--"

    "Shut up, Suchet!"
    That was the last straw.
"You think I don't remember-- I don't remember a thing about you, right? Stop assuming things! I remember enough to know Suchet's a man who doesn't fucking give up so easily, you dig?"

Upon saying those last two words, Cherno felt a nervous shock along his spine, and it felt like a quantum wave had passed through the entire room. Suchet was shot with silence.

    This was his chance.
Slowly, Cherno. At this point, you were all fucking terrible human beings for letting so many people die, even if it was just to survive. But you weren't going to die. You are a selfish prick, but you are a selfish prick who can get through this fucking game -- this game nobody understands -- so that this can never happen in the future.

Cherno, who was now close enough to the slightly-open window, held the metal sphere tightly behind his back and raised his free arm. It shook with nervousness, but he heard Suchet say nothing. It took a huge effort to close his fist, but he did it.

And he extended out his thumb and index finger.
Now or never, Cherno. You were never a risky person, but ... it was Suchet himself who taught you to take risks like this and continue to live, right?

    ... Ha.
Cherno felt a small tidbit of memory come back to him.

He pointed his finger, in the shape of a gun, at Suchet, and whispered.

    "Bang."

Cherno threw the metal sphere back behind him, shattering the window, and fell backward.
He heard the sound of thick boots stomping against the wood as the soldiers rushed after him.

As the metal sphere dropped, a white dove flew by through the air and picked it out of its freefall, deftly pecking the button on its side. The bird flew off towards the broken window as the airship began to form, and raise slowly into the air.

Cherno heard the sharp crack of gunshots all around him as he hung onto one of the balconies of the house below, blind. A bullet grazed his shoulder, but the bullets seemed to stop as he heard the soldiers fluster around with the sound of ruffling bird feathers. Holy fuck, was the silver-haired girl--

    He slipped.
Cherno fell off the house, but the airship kept rising as he felt its low hum behind him.
    Now or never!

Cherno desperately yelled out the words that stuck with him throughout his experience, without a touch of elegance. The words from Ben, who once again disappeared out of his life. Once again was left off to the dead.

    "AUDENTIS CRESTATIA IUVAT--"

He felt a tug on his hair, on his chest, on his legs, like he was being pulled through the fabric of space and time, and then re-assembled all over again. And in a snap, he felt a solid surface beneath his legs.
Cherno dimly placed his hand on the marble around him.
The teleportation function still worked, then. But what about--

He heard a sharp crack behind him, and the fluttering-- struggled, pained fluttering-- of wings behind him. The bird landed on him, and began pecking away at the rope. He felt ... warm drops on his shoulder? Eventually, it fell apart, and Cherno was able to take the bag off of his head.
He couldn't move his left arm, as his body still seemed in shock from the sudden bullet wound, but the pain began to ebb slowly.

    They were in the airship.
Who knew it would still come in handy?

The silver-haired girl fluttered off to his side, and Cherno widened his eyes as he saw a large, bloody gash through her white feathers. She seemed pained and breathy.

    "Cherno!"
    "I-- thank you--"
"No time! Cherno, we're both injured, but do me a favour if you may. Get-- ah-- get us out of here, quickly now too! Before my father returns!"
Cherno stood up, clasping his shoulder. "Father--"
    "That's-- that's right."

    She was Suchet's daughter?

    "... Olivia?"
"Cherno! Get your priorities straight! You-- you really haven't changed! Get us out of here and we'll be able to patch up! I can-- I can-- ah--" She seemed to be struggling quite a bit. "I'll try and see if I can send a message to the others to p--pick them up!"

Cherno heard the rings of bullets off of the airship. They wouldn't be able to pierce the material -- he made sure of that, back when he invested so much in the damn thing -- but they could certainly damage other parts of it.

Cherno ran to the controls and began moving the airship forward, onto the vast moor and away from the house. He rose it upward, into the clouds, so it would be harder to track them.

But they couldn't just leave the others there.
Cherno rushed away from the controls as he felt the first stings of his arm grip his body. They were like needles, nettles, poisonous barbs at his nerves, poking sharp hot metal threads into his skin as he left a small trail of blood across the ground. Cherno knelt down by the bleeding bird and ripped off a part of his sleeve to tie around Olivia.

    She was Olivia, huh?

He took the rest of the cloth and tried to stymie the bleeding by wrapping it around his shoulder, yet it was still hard to move. Olivia looked like she wanted to sleep, but she briefly looked up at him with dim, dreary eyes.

    "I-- I need to rest-- I just--
I'll send a message, Cherno Plume. We'll get-- get them-- get them here."
"Stop talking, you're going to tire yourself, you idiot girl."
Olivia chuckled. "I've heard that all my life. "Stop talking, Olivia". Nobody ever wants to hear what I say, you know? Nobody except you and-- and malchik."
    Cherno sighed.
"Get out of here, Plume. When-- when we're okay, help me return to my body and out of my Viola's. Make sure the airship gets to the others on-- on time. I'll help direct ..."

    Her voice trailed off.

Officers ran throughout the manor searching and hunting for their prey. They searched practically every corner of the manor and to their dismay there were far less people then there was originally stated. A burly man walked into the mainhall and stood over the bodies of both Jackson and Wallace "pathetic fools, gone off and got yourself killed off by a mere teen" the man said. Coming from far higher up, the man named Derrick was one of the few placed in charge of collecting the teens. To be honest he never cared about whether the children lived or not. They were the enemy, simple as that. If he had orders to murder them in cold blood then so be it.

As Derrick walked forward the sudden commotion up in one of the rooms caught his attention and before he knew it he watched as an airship took one of the teens away. "EVERYBODY MOVE NOW I WANT PEOPLE FOLLOWING THAT CONTRAPTION NOW! WE NEED AIRCRAFTS NOW! THIS IS ALL THE PROOF WE REALLY NEED" Derrick yelled. Derrick was always one who loved to use force, the children were consider harmless and so he really didn't have much freedom with his actions, but now that there were two dead corpses and the fact that an airship showed up out of nowhere meant that they were indeed a far greater threat. Oh how he was so pleased to see all the wonderful things he could use against these teens.

He waited and waited for whoever was left to arrive next. The situation was far to grim and the moment he heard the sudden sound of crashing Casey did what he had to do and sealed off the entrance with the barrel. He knew somebody was missing from the group, he knew that he was leaving that person to deal with the authorities, but he had no choice, he needed to save everybody else...otherwise they would all be caught as well.

Temperance's sudden outburst came out of no surprise and alll he could do was let her pry at the barrel. He wished to go and help her, he wished to run up and bring Cherno and Olivia down...but he knew that was a childish delusion. And so, with eye shut tightly he merely left her be. He stood there unable to do anything up until Temperance shifted all the blame to him. He deserved it all, he deserved their hate and scorn and he deserved a fate worse then even eradication from existence. Pain enveloped his body, his body shook and his mind was going mad from the mental and physical pain he was going through. His leg could no longer hold him and in the end Casey collapsed to his knees and gripped his hair as tight as possible. "Worthless....I'm so...worthless" Casey said as closed his eyes as the tears ran down.

They were safe, not all of them, but the majority. They were neatly tucked away in the cellar while heavy boots sounded above. How long would it take for them to be found? They had none of their supplies down here. The vehicles were out there on the other side of the barrier. That Temperance girl was having a freak out. She was a prime example of exactly why Marina had grown to despise women. She was emotional, unstable, and placing the blame on others. Nope, nope, nope--that would not fly.

She squirmed in Harley's warm, strong, comforting, gentle arms. "I do believe you can set me down now," she said like a southern bell. There was a playful smirk on her face, but it did not touch her eyes. Her heart was wretching at the sound of Casey's voice. She could see the pain before he brought it into words.

"Worthless....I'm so...worthless." Marina pursed her lips in disgust and knelt down beside him.

"Casey Heckles, do not ever speak of yourself like that." Even through all her pain, her voice was commanding and strong. She brushed the black hair out of his face and turned him to look at her. Her blue eyes softened as she gazed at his one. "You have never been worthless and you are not starting now. You gave everyone a place to seek refuge and get out of those musty tunnels and that unit under the stage. If you had not taken us here, we would be roaming around wasting precious fuel and not eating properly. True that it was short-lived and a trap, but there was no way you could have known that." Marina glanced back over her shoulder at the crying girl and shot daggers. "You do not listen to people like that," she spat, "You are better than you give yourself credit for." This was what she did. The memories of all those days sitting with Casey and the many others that came to visit her flooded back and her words were soft and soothing. She helped people feel good about themselves. It was a simple fact. It was what she was known for. She took the hurt away.

Marina ran a gentle hand across his cheek and smiled lovingly. Casey had always been one of her favorite clients. All he ever asked for were kind words and readings, two things she could do effortlessly. "You did a good thing for all of us. It is true that Mister Plume and Olivia managed to not make it down here with us, but they are both very resourceful people. I would not count them out quite y--" BANG! The sound of a gunshot startled her. Then there were more. Her brow creased and she had to take a deep shaky breath to calm her nerves. They are fine. They will be fine. "As I was saying, I would not count them out quite yet. I have faith in them, which means the rest of us should have faith in them as well." Her blue eyes turned to steel as she shot daggers back at Temperance once more. "Blubbering and acting crazy will not get anyone anywhere." She looked better than she felt. Marina was slightly shaken and supressing the urge to cough more blood. She did not want to take that liquid without consulting Theodore, next best being Elliot. However, the longer she put it off, the worse she became.

She did not want everyone else to know she had it. It was an unfair advantage. While she gets better they all get worse? Marina at least did not want to take it in front of people, since Vanille seemed to know somehow.

    I am scared...
The gurgling noise that awoke her was absolutely terrifying, and she knew the source.
    [/URL]

Jessie gasped as her head shot up and she limped quickly over to her father, "No.. no no no. NO!"

Jessie got on her hands and knees next to the man and tilted his head forward. This was probably not the smartest move for someone with a neck injury, but drowning in his own blood would be much worse. Jessie watched as the man gasped in terror and inhaled and exhaled like a fish out of water... except he was gaining air.

    "I can't do this anymore."
    "Dad please..."

She looked around the room, the butler was still asleep but the maid was now awake holding her hands to her heart. She felt a nudge in front of her and listened to words being spoken to her, "You always said you wanted to help people... so please do me a very important favor... please..."

The looked down to see the object nudging her was a gun.

Jessie placed his head down gently and screamed, "NO NO NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT."
    "Jessie please... I am dying..."
"Nothing ever calls for death dad... I'll get you help, I'll get you outside and find someone to help us."
"I am in more pain waiting for death than I would be if I were to be dead..."
"No I'm not doing it... I can't and I will not."

Jessie quickly grabbed the gun out of her father's hands and backed away from him, "It is a very selfish act of you."
"Selfish? Yes it may be, but how selfish is it that you are keeping me from dying. There are many people out there probably dead, do you really think they will all jump to help me out? Especially when my son could the one to blame... oh wait. I'm sorry. My daughter because she clearly does not wish to be a man."
    "Why are you attacking me?"
"I am in pain." she listened to him cough before he replied, "And I do not understand why you cannot help your father out..."
"What do you think I have been doing for five days? Sitting here and having a tea party?"

"It is possible you being y-" she watched as her father started coughing up blood again, the look of terror and horrid pain filling his eyes. She felt this pain in her heart watching it happen. Such a great man, thinking about everything and always being reasonable. Here he was, begging for death... and he seemed accepting of it.
She tilted his head again to allow the blood to exit his mouth. The breathing started again and Jessie looked across the room to see the maid with her hands covering her face in a cry, and the butler now awake and at attention. Jessie bit her lip and felt a tear go down her face. Things within the basement were starting to shake, it was only a matter of time before things in this house would start to collapse. It was only small, but the structure of her house would cave in on them if they didn't leave now.

"Get bags of food and supplies. I will grab a bag myself. Then grab a mask over there, they are not oxygen masks unfortunately, but anything to help keep radiation from becoming worse is best... Then open the door."
    "Yes maam!"

She felt her dad shake in her arms and she refused to look down, she picked up the gun next to her and placed it next to his temple, she felt her hands shake as tears were in her eyes, "Goodbye Dad, I love you."

She pulled the trigger and felt the body lose it's life in her grasp, and felt a liquid she assumed was blood flow onto her arm, she wouldn't dare look down at the body... she wouldn't dare... She could only look into the eyes of the other two in the room. One's eyes filled with tears and the other's with shock.

"I-I, just keep moving we will... we will be alright." she replied still crying as the house started to tremble again.

Heidi fell on her hands and knees as they entered the campus grounds. She was exhausted from the walk. It had taken so much out of her. They hadn't eaten and did little resting, the suit added extra weight, and now she just wanted to curl up and pass out. Her legs were trembling and she panted heavily. It was hot in the suit, even for it being January. The bombings had really messed with the climate. No snow was seen anywhere and even for it being midday, it was unusually warm. Heidi dry-heaved inside the suit, pleased that nothing came out and splattered her mask. She didn't like to wear it, but they were safe inside of them.

"Take a break?" she asked under her breath. They already didn't like her, so she didn't want to hold them up even further. At least they finally had somewhere they could potentially rest. Come one deary, get up. They grabbed her by her elbows and lifted her to her feet. Heidi's legs quaked beneath her weight and she was about to collapse again. Keep going. We don't have time for this. They pushed her forward. She turned back and glared at them, only to be greeted with an eerie ghostly smile. Their shadowy hands pushed on her back again, egging her on to keep walking. One foot after another--she took deep breaths and tried to focus on the steps.

Casey could only clench his hair in despair, but a voice soon reached out at him and the boy opened his eye upon just hearing that voice. It was a conflicting voice, one that was weak, but held a strong tone. His grip on his hair lightened and he stared up at Marina as the tears ran down his face. "Mari...na" Casey said quietly as he listened to her words of praise. He said nothing as he heard her words and just hearing the gunshots from up above caused him to shiver. The feeling of taking a life still felt fresh and though he felt nothing when he killed Jackson it now began to run through his mind like a deadly disease. Marina always managed to make him feel better no matter whatever the situation, the mere warmth of her presence always made the negative go away...but this time it was far too hard for him to just flat out forgive himself for what happened.

"I....killed somebody...not once but twice" Casey said as he glanced down at both of his hands "their blood still stains my hands...it has a foul stench that will stay with these hands forever" Casey said as he closed his eyes tightly "Everybody I love is dying out...mother, father, sister...Altair...all dead..." Casey said as he clenched his fist tightly. All the people he cared about were dying and even Marina, who was still alive was dying due to sickness. "Granduncle Marshall...and Wallace...they both died...just to save me..." Casey said as his tears continued to run down "it hurts...it hurts so much" Casey struggled to say as he continued to clench his fists to the point of drawing blood from them.

The sound of someone collapsing caught his attention. It would seem that he was not the only one worn out from their long walk. So he looked around and, when he saw no one else in sight, decided to take a breather. It was nice to relax but this didn't really seem the place for it.

"Maybe inside..." The dorms had beds. How wonderful it would be to sleep in one again. There should also be plenty of food inside and he knew for a fact that the school's labs would have things he could use. And if this place was secure enough he could finally ask the other two what they thought about summoning the demon who trapped them in this mess. Because talking out here in the open... Still, they could talk while going inside, couldn't they? "A-also... The meeting was horrid. Nearly being burned alive... I'd like to avoid that part but a redo can't hurt now. R-right?"

He didn't know the others' opinions about summoning so he tried to be subtle about it, thinking they could think he just meant they could try talking about it again. However conversing was never his forte so once said his intent felt obvious. No matter, there was no going back and changing what he said now so it was just a matter of waiting to hear what they will say.

"I....killed somebody...not once but twice," Casey said as he glanced down at both of his hands, "their blood still stains my hands...it has a foul stench that will stay with these hands forever," Casey said as he closed his eyes tightly. "Everybody I love is dying out...mother, father, sister...Altair...all dead..." He clenched his fist tightly. "Granduncle Marshall...and Wallace...they both died...just to save me..." His tears continued to run down, "it hurts...it hurts so much." Casey struggled to say as he continued to clench his fists to the point of drawing blood from them.

Gently, she wrapped her hands around his and pried his fingers apart. "Hey, shh, shh, shh.... Casey, it is okay. What about that Heidi girl? She's with the others and probably still alive. As for everyone else... Sadly, people die. It is a natural part of life. I am sorry to hear that you hurt so much." She stroked his head lightly with one hand, while holding both of his with her other. "You had to do what was necessary to survive. As much as it may hurt to think about, none of them ever really existed. All the memories and emotions you have attached to these people are made up. You can hate me if you wish for saying such things, but it is the sad sad truth." Marina spoke low and softly. She knew what she needed to do. It was the same thing she intended to do from the start. There could be no more putting it off. They were all in danger and it was her fault. "If you want someone to blame, then blame me. None of us, and I mean none of us--" she glanced around the dark room briefly, "would be in this situation had it not been for me."

Carefully, she pulled herself up until she was standing and reached into her pocket. "There is something I need to do, and it will help everyone." Marina pulled the vial out and uncapped it. The familiar sweet scent of cotton candy wafted out and she smiled before tossing her head back and drinking the liquid. It burned going down. It was not sweet on her tongue like it was in her nostrils. She made a puckered face and gagged as it went painfully down her throat. Too late now. She took one deep shaky breath before standing straight and facing everyone else. "I am going out there."

She pointed to the barricade and swallowed her nerves. "This is my fault and I want to make up for it. No one can stop me. It will be the distraction necessary to hopefully empty the house and allow you all to leave freely. I will be able to confirm the safety of Mister Plume and Olivia, and hopefully..." she bit her lip, "hopefully I can find the mad woman that has caused all this heartache." Marina took another deep breath before moving to the barrel. "Someone please help me move it so that I may leave."

John loathed the boy with dark hair, a Cheshire,'s smile and golden eyes. He wanted nothing to do with him. But when the barrel was slid shut and he wasn't in their little freed group, his heart began to kick start into high gear. Suddenly he realized that he knew how Thomas must have felt when he decided he had to go back to Antilum. Immediately he demanded that logic should calm him down. No shots were fired, and the government was inside, if the bag terrorist knew the people she wanted was dead, then who knows what she'd do to the country. John swallows hard, the lump in his being the thing that held his tears from falling. He shifted his eyes off of the ground and towards Temperance and her outburst, should that be him? After all, he was in the picture long before her. But he couldn't react that way, his blue eyed angel wouldn't approve of tearing innocent Casey a new one. His fingers clutched the beads harder at the thought of her.

Bernadette was able to pull Temperance back and then his heart was hit by a new emotion as the shots rang out. He could now fully sympathize with Temperance, and empathize with Thomas. The shots broke the dam in his thudding heart and quietly the clear rivers of wet emotion began to trail down his face. His mind whirled, his analyzation was off track. Cute, innocent and carefree laughter echoed through his once intolerable skull and suddenly, desire still crying quietly, he gently placed both of his hands on Temperance's shoulders, slightly hoping Bernie would keep her from swinging at him as he spoke to the green eyed tempest.

"Cherno's a selfish, lazy, smart ass who despite being a genius of sorts, still manages to idiotically hurt those around him." He gave her shoulders a slight but soft squeeze, imploring her to keep listening. "But he's one resilient son of a *****. Just hold on, he'll pop up again."

And John believed what he told her, because if he could believe in magic. He could believe in Cherno.

Kallisti had been paying attention to the gash on Vanille's arm that she had gotten when they all rushed down to the cellar. It didn't look to bad, but none of them had decent bandages - there was a good chance it could get infected.

He sighed. The Heckles Estate had been a setup, and by the look of it, Casey knew nothing about it? Selfish fucking servants. How the hell were they going to get out of here now? They had none of their supplies, and there was no way they could stay down here. His mind had skimmed through Temperance's presence and outburst about Cherno. Harley felt bad for the guy, no doubt, but there was nothing they could do now without all of them getting caught.

" Worthless . . . " Casey uttered brokenly, " I'm so . . . worthless. " Dammit, don't tell him that the kid was crying? Now wasn't the time for crying. They had to get out of here. Casey could wallow in self-pity later, when they were safer. Harley could imagine how the kid was feeling, but now wasn't the damn time.

Marina had left his arms and tried to soothe Casey while he remained silent, contemplating their options. While she was talking to him, Kallisti leaned over and whispered in his ear. His eyebrows raised and he looked at her, firmly shaking his head as she stood up and motioned to Vanille's arm that was wrapped up, but still bleeding. He shook his head again and the two began to quietly argue over what was going to be done, and then she pinched him.

" Ow! " he hissed, and swatted her hand away. She put her hands to her hips and he sighed heavily, " Fine. "

" I am going out there. " Harley wrenched his neck around to stare at Marina. Was she serious? Goddamn these women. He glanced back at Kallisti and her face was contorted into a frown. She didn't want Marina to go, not to the same destination - which was outside.

Goddammit. He didn't wan't either of them to leave. Kallisti because . . . Well, he'd rather keep that to himself, but Marina . . . That woman. She was ridiculous, and he hated her because of who she was, because of what she said. How she said it. How she made him feel. Goddamn this, and everything else.

" Someone please help me move it so that I may leave. " she asked.

" I am going as well. " Kallisti said, moving towards the barrel, " Your heroism act does not please me, and I am not accompanying you because I give the slightest shit about you - " Wow, that was not like her, " - but I have my own reasons. Our paths may diverge, so do not expect me to be watching your back the entire time. " She moved the barrel that revealed the hole and motioned for Marina to follow her through it.

" Kallisti . . . " Harley said, and she looked pointedly at him, " Be careful. " She nodded solemnly and climbed through, " Marina. " he said, standing up and moving towards her, " Might be the last time we see each other. " he commented, grabbing her shoulders, leaning down, and pressing his lips against hers, " I hate this, feeling for you. Not just because it puts me in danger, but because it gives me more to lose. "

He sighed, leaning his forehead against hers, " I hate you, a lot, but don't feel bad . . . I hate everyone who makes me care. Be careful. Kallisti'll watch you until she finds her own goal. I know she doesn't seem like it, but she will stay with you for as long as she can manage. "

With a heavy feeling, Harley let her go and turned his back on her, looking at the rest of their shrunken party. There wasn't much to work with on personnel, but he'd manage. Marina had said he was a leader, after all. " As for the rest of us . . . Casey, is there another way out of here? C'mon kid, pull yourself together, we don't have time for emotions. " Well, that was a hypocritical statement, but fuck it, " We need to get to one of the trucks and move sanctuaries. "

She had managed to get her crying under control, but just barely. The stupid psychic bitch was consoling the bastard that got them all into this mess. She was really fed up with all these dumb ass people. German girl was still holding onto her, seeming rather unsure of how safe it would be to let her go. That was probably wise. I said I'm done playing, and I mean it. Everyone kept ruining her plans with disaster--how unfortunate. Temperance was still crying when a pair of firm unfamiliar hands grasped her shoulders. Angry bloodshot green eyes pierced into the hetero-chromatic bible banger. She was about to snap on him for touching her when he caught her off guard.

"Cherno's a selfish, lazy, smart ass who despite being a genius of sorts, he still manages to idiotically hurt those around them." He gave her shoulders a slight but soft squeeze, imploring her to keep listening. She continued to glare daggers into him. What was his point? "But he's one resilient son of a bitch. Just hold on, he'll pop up again."

She jerked her shoulders away from him as German girl strengthened her hold on her. "Would you just fucking let me go?!" she snapped. Temperance gave one more meek pull and blondie seemed to release her hold. Finally, she sneered. She returned her attention back to John and scowled. "Or he'll be dead." she said flatly. Optimism was futile. She had already shown far too much weakness in front of all these people and for what?--Cherno Plume, please. Temperance shook her head. She wanted to believe in him and everything he had told her, but it seemed pretty damn impossible. "You heard those gun shots. There's no way he survived that. There's probably dozens of people up there. It's only a matter of time until they find the cellar. Then we're all screwed too." Temperance stood so she was facing him.

"This is my fault and I want to make up for it. No one can stop me. It will be the distraction necessary to hopefully empty the house and allow you all to leave freely. I will be able to confirm the safety of Mister Plume and Olivia, and hopefully... hopefully I can find the mad woman that has caused all this heartache. Someone please help me move it so that I may leave."

She glanced over to the psychic bitch as she prepared to leave. "If you go out there you'll die."

"It is worth it," Psychic Bitch said simply.

Temperance looked back up at John. "Even if he did somehow manage to survive all those gun shots and escape the police, where would go?" Her green eyes were cold and vacant. She could feel herself becoming further detached. She was used to isolation, after all. It was becoming a welcoming presence inside her. "The only way he could possibly be safe is if he... used.... Damn him!" Now she was pissed. If he survived, no doubt he was on that stupid fucking airship. She still didn't believe he could have survived the bullets, but she welcomed the anger that was boiling up inside of her. Feeling angry was better than feeling pathetic and helpless. "He could have fucking used that piece of shit earlier." She shoved her hands in her pocket and began pacing back and forth. There was little room and tears still streaked her face, but anger was definitely growing stronger over the other emotions.

Her words stuck him and though the truth was painful, it still rung absolute in his mind. They all didn't exist and so didn't the other people in this game. All of it...was it truly worth it. He honestly had nothing to say as Marina spoke and just stayed there silently and once Marina got up he just stayed there silently. "Marina....you don't have to do this....but I know you and if you feel this decision cannot be changed then I will not stop you" Casey said rising to his feet. "But know you made a promise to me and you are never one to break your promises...make sure to return" Casey said calmly wiping away his tears.

He acknowledged Harley's words and all he really did was close his eyes "I'm sorry...your right...now is not the time for emotions" Casey said coldly as he opened his dull eye and stared up ahead at the pathway underground. He didn't know when he'd ever get the time for emotions and it was quite possible that it would be never, but nonetheless he had to endure. "From what I was told this passageway is quite long, but it should be able to lead us out deep into the moor. This is the only exit I was told about...I know they won't give up this area...Jackson probably told them how many of us were in the manor and they won't quit until they found us all..." Casey said calmly. He heard Temperance yell and bitch...but he paid little heed to her. If they didn't exist then he would merely kill her if she attempted to kill him....he wouldn't die to her

"But know you made a promise to me and you are never one to break your promises...make sure to return," he said calmly wiping away his tears.

    "I promise," she agreed quietly.

Marina already had her hands on the barrel and began pushing when Kallisti stepped forward. "I am going as well." Kallisti said, moving towards the barrel, "Your heroism act does not please me, and I am not accompanying you because I give the slightest **** about you, but I have my own reasons. Our paths may diverge, so do not expect me to be watching your back the entire time." She moved the barrel that revealed the hole and motioned for Marina to follow her through it. Just when Marina thought Kallisti was starting to grow on her, she pulled a typical girl attitude and changed everything. She wanted to retort, desperately, but the sound of Harley's voice distracted her.

"Kallisti . . ." Harley said, and Kallisti looked pointedly at him, "Be careful." She nodded solemnly and climbed through, "Marina." he said, standing up and moving towards her. What did he want. Another good luck/bye kiss perhaps? She cocked her brow and gave him a wicked smile and tapped her lips slowly. "Might be the last time we see each other." he commented, grabbing her shoulders, leaning down, and pressing his lips against hers. She was right. How sad. Marina kissed him back, but her devilish grin was gone. Now she felt sad and a little lonely. Her entire life was spent around not getting close to people. Had she made a huge mistake? "I hate this, feeling for you. Not just because it puts me in danger, but because it gives me more to lose." She nodded slowly, fully understanding. He sighed, leaning his forehead against hers. Their skin was pressed firmly together and it made her think of the piano again. "I hate you, a lot, but don't feel bad . . ." Well then... "I hate everyone who makes me care. Be careful. Kallisti'll watch you until she finds her own goal. I know she doesn't seem like it, but she will stay with you for as long as she can manage." She sighed. Marina had never wanted to spill her guts out to anyone as much as she did to Harley at this very moment. She lingered for just a second longer before exiting the cellar.

"I hate you too," she muttered once on the other side. Marina glanced at Kallisti before standing straight and locking eyes with the other girl. "Kallisti, I could care less if you do not care about me, and I am not doing this to be heroic. It is my fault that bag lady arrived and started bombing and I wish to complete what I started nearly a week ago. I want to find her and to do that, I am going to walk over there and get arrested." She glanced around nervously. Her body felt strange. There was a burning sensation coursing through her as everything began to mend itself. That was terrifying. She could hardly believe Antilum really had things like this. "If you wait long enough, I can probably cause enough of a distraction to let you slip out unnoticed." Her lips tingled and she brushed her fingertips over them lightly. Harley's kiss still warmed the spot. Encouragement--that is what she felt. She could do this. She could put her fear behind her and let the police take her. They were bound to lead her right to the bag lady so she could finally end this.

John had his hands pulled away. Maybe he was getting better at being nice, since he wasn't pretending when he spoke. He held his tongue when she spoke, seeing her get more riled up with each words, she then said something worth listening to. "That? What is that? Does he have something that we should all know about?" He wanted to shake her to make her stop moving and to tell everyone else to shut up. Or at least walk and talk. He didn't want to comment on the futility of going above ground and into the house, if they were willing to shoot one of them, they were willing to shoot all of them. No suicides.

Crazy Girl's suggestion to take a break was a marvelous one. She couldn't be half bad if she saw the point in catching their breath. Madeline was hot and sticky in the suit, and she wanted nothing more than to strip down and dive into the center of the ocean. A break would have been a nice compromise, but of course, the nerd chimed in and she was forced to keep walking a bit further through the castle-like grounds of Brookridge. It was eerie and empty, reminding her of a few video games and movies she had seen. The first thing that ran through her mind was 'apocalypse', though she knew it only really applied to her (and the rest of 100 Days crew). The government was surprisingly scarce, but perhaps they were legitimately afraid of the demon bombs that had been dropping.

Though she continued walking, her pace slowed. Elliot was suggesting...another summoning? That was ridiculous. It had gone so poorly the last time! Mainly because everyone ignored her (she sighed), but still...On top of that, there were less of them there if anything happened, and ... She looked around quietly before forcing herself to take the strides necessary to catch up to Elliot. Her green eyes pierced the side of his skull through her suit. She wanted to ask him what he was thinking, and why he even needed Crestatia around, but she could guess. Besides, there was so much going on now that could be changed...If they did it correctly. Madeline really didn't want to be on the run forever.

"...We can try again, I suppose. But she's going to have to be the vessel," Madeline motioned towards Heidi.

Kallisti was now standing in the cellar, waiting for Harley to finish his Romeo-show with Marina. She was tired, but at least she was away from the rest of them. The situation was starting to look slightly hopeful. The door to the cellar, up the stairs, had been kicked in, but now there was nothing but silence and she was the only person currently occupying the damp room.

What had happened to Cherno, she wondered? It might happen to her, too. She didn't exactly plan this move all the way through, but she needed to be useful, as far as she was concerned. Being decent with a bow was her only useful skill in the entire situation. She needed to do more. So she was going on a suicide mission.

" Kallisti, I could care less if you do not care about me, and I am not doing this to be heroic. It is my fault that bag lady arrived and started bombing and I wish to complete what I started nearly a week ago. I want to find her and to do that, I am going to walk over there and get arrested. "

But Kallisti barley heard a word of it. There were steps moving around up the stairs. Marina continued anyway, " If you wait long enough, I can probably cause enough of a distraction to let you slip out unnoticed. "

She gently stuck her hand over Marina's mouth to get her to stop talking while the footsteps continued. This was going to be a stress, wasn't it? Her finger went to her lips, and she pulled out her bow and nocked an arrow. Against the cool cellar stone, her feet moved and then she took the first step up the wooden steps. A nearly inaudible creak sounded and she cringed; it was just loud enough for them to be caught.

" There are still here, " she whispered, going up a few more steps and then stopping, " A straggler from the company that had come to retrieve us is near, I think. Wait for my signal to follow . . . " Dear god, she had no idea if she was doing this right or not, but nerve-destroying minutes later, she reached the top and peered around the corner. No one in sight. Where were all of the foot steps coming from?

She was able to see the kitchen from where she stood in the shadows, a few soldiers were in there, and she quickly came down the steps again, glancing at Marina in a slight panic. She had hoped that they were gone by now, but she should have known better. There were definitely less of them - maybe they would give up soon? Surely they had scoured the entirety of the cellar, already.

" Hey! " came a rough male voice in a whisper, and Kallisti froze. Someone was looking directly at her, but they didn't look happy to see her at all, " What are you still doing here? I thought Master Casey got you all out! " He wasn't talking very loudly, which she was glad for. He moved closer to the cellar door, and she went down a few steps, " You need to get out of here, girl! "

" I need the keys to the two supply trucks that we brought here. Do you know where they are? " she asked urgently. Oh, no - they hadn't been raided by the soldiers, had they?

The servant seemed contemplative, " They're in the kitchen, need 'em? " This was . . . too easy, she thought to herself. " Look girl, I can only do so much for you. "

She bit her lip, " Get them for me. " she commanded, much harsher than she intended. Oh, god, what if he told them she was here? He casually walked off and she watched him disappear into the kitchen. The soldiers immediately questioned his actions, but she listened to him make some lie about . . . storage rooms upstairs? Maybe downstairs.

Ten minutes later, the servant came back to her, but passed the cellar door. Kallisti almost made the mistake of reaching out from the shadows to grab him, but then two heavily armed personnel passed the door, too. She gasped, took a misstep backwards, and nearly fell down. Five more minutes, and the servant returned, holding his hand into the darkness as conspicuously as he could.

Rougher than she meant to, she snatched the keys from him and padded down the stairs, back to Marina. " I need to get to the moor, out back with one of the trucks. You said you would provide distraction, yes? " she asked, jingling the keys nervously, " Please, Marina, be careful. I know it seems ironic, but . . . this is dangerous. Whenever you are ready, we will move. "

The blond's stare caused Elliot to shift positions. It felt as if that if he messed this up then she would kill him herself. Provided, of course, that Crestatia didn't beat her to it. At least he had seen what they did last time and had a pretty good idea at which part they messed up. So hopefully this time would go better.

He glanced back at Heidi, hoping she would go along with this. The vessel needed to greet the demon in, didn't it? Well, maybe that wasn't a necessity. Either way he pointed to a nearby classroom, gesturing for it to be done there before entering it. The room seemed quiet and void of people so it would be the perfect place for this.

"We need a decent... What; offering?" he muttered, looking around the classroom. What would even work? There were plenty science textbooks around as well as beakers filled with chemicals in glass cabinets. Some frogs left undissected remained as well. Picking something was difficult; he really hoped just having something that worked in the room would suffice. He would still place things on the table though, just in case.

"S-should ask... What would you ask for?" He really couldn't summon her and then do all the talking, getting what he wanted only to leave Madeline with nothing. The girl unnerved him enough as it is. Though then there was Heidi. They haven't even asked if she was going to go along with this or not. He began to wonder again if forcing her to be the vessel would work just as well.

Temperance stopped pacing long enough to see the goodbye kiss shared between Jackson and Psychic Crazy. Ugh. She didn't want to admit the twinge of jealously she felt towards their exchange. Nopenopenope--it wasn't happening. She went back to pacing and only heard snippets of what was being said after that. The barrel was moved back into place to keep them from being found and her green eyes flicked onto John before returning to her feet. Temperance walked around and around.

"Casey, is there another way out of here? C'mon kid, pull yourself together, we don't have time for emotions." Jackson opened his mouth again. Did he not hear what she had just said? "We need to get to one of the trucks and move sanctuaries." How were they supposed to do that successfully?

"From what I was told this passageway is quite long, but it should be able to lead us out deep into the moor. This is the only exit I was told about...I know they won't give up this area...Jackson probably told them how many of us were in the manor and they won't quit until they found us all..." Casey replied.

Temperance continued to walk. Should she tell them? She hadn't finished saying anything about it before. However, if Cherno wanted them on it, wouldn't he have told them by now? What if he wanted to keep it a secret? That would have been quite the advantage.

"That? What is that? Does he have something that we should all know about?" John's voice finally broke through her thoughts and she froze as she stared up at him.

Temperance swallowed hard and her eyes darted to the others, then back to John. "Maybe," she said in her old snarly tone. She didn't like John, not one bit. "He said he got it with some sort of trials thing or something. It's all like... magical or something." She bit her lip trying to think. "It's some sort of weird airship or something. You teleport inside when you say the magic words, and tust me, it's not please and thank you." Temperance turned away from John to face Harley and Casey. "If he's... if he's alive... and not arrested, then that's where he would be. The stupid genius would probably be floating in the clouds right above us right now." She frowned just thinking about it. The last time she was on that...
