xxxxxWhat a goddamn embarrassment, he was. Real smooth, Cherno.
He shifted himself off of the ground, rolling upon his jacket, after scalpel rudely pushed him off. How in the hell did the silver-haired girl make friends with this guy, anyway? Cherno stood up, and brushed off the dust of the tunnel from his mildly dirtied pants.

"Yeah, yeah. Sorry 'bout that. I didn't- well, I was in a rush. Haha." Cherno looked away in embarrassment. Ever since this little tunnel adventure - nay, the time travel adventure, he had felt like he was isolating himself more and more from this ragtag group. But that wasn't important right now.
Quin was here too, huh? How long and how far had this little expedition been going on, anyway?

"Yeah, I've come to join, or maybe to warn, at least." Cherno took out his notepad, making sure it was not crushed under the weight of that violent impact. He turned his gaze towards the tunnel, generally well-lit from the combined power of all of the flashlights. The tunnel was drier here, and the familiar watery streams seemed like thin gossamer threads upon the jagged rock. The droplets echoed barely through the cavernous darkness.

"I need to make sure that things won't go antidandy when people don't know what they're getting into, you dig?"

    That's strange.

"I've been missing for a jiff, but for good reason, I'll tell. Take a look at this notepad, won't you? I've gathered enough data to know about some of the weak spots and water sources of the caves - not that the latter will help as much, since all the water must be contaminated - but it gives a good idea of where not to go through your little Shackleton-esque adventure."

Cherno's nose twiched, and his eyes darted off to the side. He tried to avoid looking straight into the black abyss of the farther tunnel, but it seemed as if something was drawing him there.
It was a familiar smell. Something like ... what, rotten eggs? Even sulfuric acid?
But that wasn't the strange part. The strange part was the fact that he had seen it before.

You've definitely seen it before, Roncesvalles. Don't tell me you forgot these tunnels, too ...

    What?
    Oh.
Oh. Cherno could have sworn, at the back of his head, he heard something. He turned to Quin, and was tempted to ask her how she knew of the name "Roncesvalles". But upon gazing at her, her face seemed like it made no indication of even speaking beyond any of this. Huh?

    I want out soon.

Cherno looked down and scrunched up his face.
... Did he still have those pills? Guh.
"I- I-" He breathed, lightly tapping his head. This wasn't going to happen again, no. That dream wasn't going to haunt him again. It couldn't. He breathed. "Well, let's see how far this tunnel goes, yeah? I'll make sure things don't go down south with the tunnel structure until we get far-stretchin' enough that these here structural functions don't model the place properly anymore. Heck-" Cherno pulled out his pen again. "If necessary, I wouldn't mind helping map out this place either, if the Threnody kid's still out cold. Scouting's important, in a place like this. Were you thinking of ideas for which way to move, was it?"

Cherno turned to scalpel, with that boy's cold eyes.
Boy, he must have hated Cherno with a passion at this point. Cherno simply smiled back at him, almost deviously.
That's right. He meant to ask scalpel the name of that silver-haired girl.

Quin suggested they go straight, but after only walking a few feet, the dark-haired girl stopped to check on Heidi. "Heidi . . . ?" she asked cautiously, lowering he bow just slightly. "Are you alright?" She looked up at her, eyes wide with fear. They heard her. That was no good.
She stood there silently trying to think of an excuse, when loud shouting occurred. Heidi had to step out of the way before she was trampled by the tall lanky figure that came barreling down on Elliot. He had not been as lucky for her. Even better yet, she had a distraction. No one would be paying attention to what she said if some loud boy came crashing into the group. Heidi swallowed and took a few steps forward into the darkness. She just wanted her outburst to be a distant memory. After all, they had tunnels to explore; and people to kill. Heidi shook her head and released her hands from her hair.

Vanille did not help her lift Theo, so instead, he remained on the dolly. That was too bad. She felt bad for him. Harley came rushing up to them after a long while and pulled a vial out of his pocket. Bernie watched as he tilted back the dark-haired boy's head and poured the liquid down his throat. She hoped he would be okay. It didn't exactly seem like the safest way to do it. He could drown! Her blue eyes were wide the entire time. It was interesting, actually, and she imagined Harley leaning in closer to Theo until--she shook the thoughts away. This was no time for things like that. "Cahn I duu zomething?" When he seemed to regain consciousness, she sighed happily. At least one thing had gone right so far.
She looked around the room and then back at Harley. "Vhere did da girl go daht vas with yuu?"

Temperance was still only half listening as Olivia began to ramble in that mechanical voice of her's. She seemed to really like to talk. It was just like all her dumb shallow cheerleader friends. How ridiculous! Olivi-bird landed on her should and nuzzled in by her neck. Temperance wasn't really sure how much she liked the idea of that, especially since the girl seemed to have some sort of connection with Cherno that he couldn't remember. That, she liked, although, it only made him want to know the white-haired girl further--how infuriating. She mentioned wanting her help to finally get back into her body and Temperance nodded.
Temperance didn't care for her, but she was also sick of talking to a mechanical bird. Laurence had remained rather silent on all the matters. That seemed to be quite a change. "Sure, yeah. If it'll get you to stop talking." She laughed awkwardly. The bird flew out of the storage unit under the stage. Temperance took a seat in the chair and sighed. She was still shivering, but it was better than burning alive. She no longer felt delirious from fever which was nice, but her body felt weak and brittle. Hopefully Olivi-bird would be back with good news.
    [OOC: --- Wearing Client: --- Location: BAE Day: 50 3/3 Friday January 18th, 2013]

The bike's engine purred as she pivoted and turned down the different trees. It felt invigorating, even in her dying bones. She sighed heavily as the bike glided through the open gate of the main entrance. Squad cars seemed to line the streets of the campus. What was going on? She could not even believe that cops were still working. If there were any left alive, she did not imagine them doing their job. This was about to make things a whole lot more interesting. I do not have the time or energy for any of this nonsense. She sighed and weaved around a storage building near the west gate. There was no way she could make it to the concert hall with police lurking everywhere.

Miss Sario had arrived, as was said!
Olivia flew off her branch with a jet-like start, and fluttered like a butterfly towards the girl. She looked rather ... tired? Olivia was much, much too eager to hear about all of the news; but of course, getting the move-on was much more important at the time.
She gently perched herself on Miss Sario's shoulder. Even with her avoidance of women, she hoped that she had few objections.

    "Excuse me, Miss Sario.
Do you know who I am?
I shall be your lovely, beautiful guide to the others, if you would certainly not mind."

Olivia let out a chirp of sly amusement.

With Harley gone on his medicine mission, Vanille had mostly been holding down their newly-moved fort. The area that they had come to was a lot more spacious and she was able to stretch and do low acrobatics without hitting anyone! That was how she mostly passed the time until Harley came back, yelling about something to do with the Doc, who had gone on a scouting mission with Quin and Heidi just a little while before.

Their chances of survival hadn't shot through the roof when Theo woke up, but she did feel a lot better about them! His health was less than stellar, but it definitely wasn't anything that couldn't be taken care of with some water and a good meal. She as just happy that he was alive and that he hadn't died under her watch or care.

Where is everyone else?❞ he asked after unlocking some stuff with a code she locked away for later reference.

Let's see . . . Vanille began thoughtfully, Quin, Elliot, and Heidi went scouting, Marina is on the surface, Harley just came back from the surface, and we're the rest, she motioned to the group, Oh, right. Benjamin is probably dead. Other than that, I don't know about everyone else! It was sad, but she knew that she had to focus on them here and now.

Theo, I need the trucks accessible and ready to go, Harley said, I've gotta meet Marina on the surface to go pick up some fugitives. I told her I'd be there.

Harley sounded . . . different, somehow. Vanille frowned. Almost pleading? She mentally checked the time. He couldn't go out at this time of the night . . . Definitely not.

Everyone seemed rather distracted now, but they had decided on a direction and Heidi felt uncomfortable in the large group. It was too much. Heidi started walking straight ahead. The hall became increasingly darker and if it weren't for the dim light of her flashlight, she wouldn't be able to see at all. She looked back behind her, but everyone was out of sight. Either she had walked too far away from them, or it was just that dark in the tunn--her foot slipped and she landed on her butt as she stumbled back. Her nose was pelted with a foul sewage like odor and she winced in disgust. Heidi crab-crawled back from where her foot had slipped. She shined the flashlight in front of her feet and saw that there was a large hole in the path.
She stood up and inched around the hole in the floor. If she would have fallen--Heidi hugged the wall as she made her way around. Was walking over here just a complete waste of time or was there something to make it--the flashlight caught a reflective surface. What was that? She stepped closer, past the hole in the floor and found a clothing rack in front of her. Hanging from the clothes hangers, were a row of lab coats and goggles. This... was a waste. Just take them. Hey! Maybe we can get someone to fall down the hole. She shook her head. There was a faint sound of rushing water. She wondered if it and the sewage smell were related. There could be a sewer pipe connected to this tunnel or something. "I... I found some stuff," she called out. Heidi grabbed everything off of the rack and tossed it over her arm after putting one of the lab coats on herself. She walked carefully back around the hole, making sure not to slip this time.
When she got back to the others, she held her arms out to them. "Here, this is what's down the dark tunnel. Oh, and a big hole. We can't go that way." Heidi shook her head and waited for the others to relieve her of the extra coats and goggles. Individually, they did not weigh much, but all together, they were kind of heavy.

As Marina drove very slowly through the school, a bird landed on her shoulder. "Excuse me, Miss Sario. Do you know who I am? I shall be your lovely, beautiful guide to the others, if you would certainly not mind." She nodded solemnly and her blue eyes glanced over at the bird.

"Even in a different shape and tone of voice, I would never mistake you Olivia." She steered the bike to the right. "I need to get to the Orchestra Hall to gather the others. We will have saviors arriving at Hydrangea soon. Time for everyone to get out of here." She watched as a figure crossed the lawn. "Any chance you know a safe way around all these cops?"

Elliot's attention shot towards Heidi when the girl fell. Nothing seemed to have happened, but he went to check it out anyway. There was a smell he did not trust and a hole, so this place was marked untrustworthy in his book. At least it was not a waste for there were labcoats, one of which he put on. The extra warmth and pockets it provided could prove useful. Though the smell made him check it out first; it seemed safe. They were exposed to whatever there was down here either way so no harm in this.

Then the goggles. Never knew when they could help, so he made sure to have a pair as well. If there were any extra to carry he offered his assistance, though was ready to leave now. "S-should we check out the next path? Or go back?"

Cherno Plume certainly did talk a lot, didn't he? Kallisti could tell that he had been with lack of company for a long time - or so it seemed, but she could also tell that her patience was thinning out as time went on - as her solution to everything was becoming to just lodge an arrow into everything and leave it at that.

. . . It was probably better to keep the thought to herself, though.

" Well, now that you're here, you might as well help us check around. " she said, following closely after Heidi. " We will have to return to camp, soon. I fear it is getting late, and we might lose our way if we take too long. We're going this way. " She pointed with her bow, looking in that direction.

Oh. Heidi had disappeared. Fantastic. Kallisti picked up her pace and followed after, but then she heard the call, " I . . . I found some stuff, " Heidi called, and she raised an eyebrow. More supplies, maybe? There sure was a lot of it down here - not that it was a bad thing in the least.

" Here, this is what's down the dark tunnel. Oh, and a big hole. We can't go that way. " . . . She was wearing a good deal of labcoats. Why were they down here? Or rather, down that particular hall? But there was a hole, so it wasn't to be traversed. The coats looked to be a burden on Heidi, so Kallisti took a few of them. She thought of what they should do next.

It seemed like the day was coming to a close soon . . . " We should head back to camp, " she told the others in reply to Elliot's question, " It's late, and we might move again tomorrow, so we should save energy. "

She began to walk. Arriving back at camp, they'd come just at the end of Vanille's explanation to Theodore - oh, Theodore was awake. " It is nice to see you among the living again, Mr. Weldon. " she said as she took a seat on the dolly.

Oh, right. Benjamin is probably dead. Other than that, I don't know about everyone else!

He'd be lying if he said he could remember who Ben was, but he didn't have enough energy to feel guilty about that.

Theo, I need the trucks accessible and ready to go, I've gotta meet Marina on the surface to go pick up some fugitives. I told her I'd be there.

Marina was alive! ...He shook his head and stepped to the trucks quietly. The blonde bead guy was laying slouched in one of them. He gently patted his shoulder, but he was unresponsive. There was really no time to waste, so Theodore just kind of... yanked him out of the truck, not bothering to see if that had woken him up or not, and took a seat. His fingers glided across the control panel, and he pressed his palm to it. He had always hated how needlessly protected everything was. After moment or two of scanning, yet another number pad popped up for a code. He typed it in and the engine started.

" It is nice to see you among the living again, Mr. Weldon."

    Thanks,
He did the same for the other two trucks and stepped away.

We need to gather everyone else and then head out of here, I think...Wait, how bad is it up there? Radiation? Has there been more bombings? If anyone knows. There's an area down here we can go to get some gas masks and other protective wear.

She did not appear very bothered by Olivia's presence. Well, well, that was a first, and a good one too! There may in fact be some positives about this, then. Olivia let out another sparkly, chirping laugh.

    "I do indeed.
Take the roundabout path following the river, Miss Sario. I am sure you are familiar with those secret alleyways that existed between the Faculty buildings.
We- we all used to fool around in them. Yes ... quite."

    Those ... those memories.
They seemed like so very long ago. And it was almost painful to remember. Olivia ducked her head.
What was happening to her, recently?

    "... Well then.
Ordinarily, the officers should completely miss you.
But just in case, I shall fly into the trees and provide a lovely distraction with my immaculate, golden voice.
They should move in the direction completely opposite to your path. The others are hiding within the trap door of the stage in the orchestral hall.
Miss Sario, you have always been a lady of action, and as the lady of active action to my ladyhood of passive actions, I trust our combination shall work best in tandem to save the others.

And please, do tell me of life in those dirty Antilum tunnels, when you may.
I have not been in the many hundreds of Brookridge tunnels since we were all children."

Olivia nodded her head, stretched out her wings, and took off.
She flew across the campus, the wind cold against her feathers, slicing through the currents with the speed of a dart.
At the other end, she perched herself atop a tree.

From here, she had a ...
    A wonderful look ...
    Yes ... on those officers.
    Dirty scumbags.

    This was his unit!

She let out a taunting song.
    olivia's third lullaby

And with that, the officers took the bait.
Oh! They heard her voice, so-called! Immediately, one by one, they began to move towards her direction, closer and closer to the forest, and away from Miss Sario. Olivia fluttered further off into the forest, all the while interspersing her soothing, gentle song with tinny, mechanical laughter.

    Godspeed, Miss Sario.

The group had returned to the camp in time for Elliot to hear trucks running. What a wonderful thing to have, and quite needed. They should-wait. It was Theodore who had said that, wasn't it? Smiling for the first time in a while, well, a smile without twisted thoughts behind it, Elliot greeted his friend. "G-good thing you're awake..."

The reunion would have to wait for it seemed that trucks were ready to go. No need to waste gas and surely everyone would be wishing to leave as soon as possible. They couldn't stay here much longer either, with dwindling supplies. Though maybe a return could be made if they did not find a place better suited for them and needed the shelter quickly.

In any case he boarded on the truck Theodore would be driving, though only after making sure that they packed everything they had.

    xxxxxOh, that was the smell?
Cherno rubbed his nose, as they slowly walked back to camp. No more expeditions for now, but he was glad to note that whatever hole existed there seemed to take advantage of the bedrock's weak points. The little lady Heidi had brought back a collection of interesting loot that presumably dropped from whatever the hell Antilum was doing. But that smell - was it sewage, contaminated water, perhaps some remnant of laboratory experiments? More importantly, did it have an opening up on the surface?

    ... That could prove troublesome.
    Very, very troublesome.

Cherno arrived at the set-up camp. Threnody was awake, joy of joys!
    Yeah.
Okay. He still looked mighty sickly. Oh well. He said something about gas masks. The radiation couldn't be that bad, could it?
    Cherno looked at Heidi's equipment.

"We picked these up down further in the tunnels. No gas masks, right sister?" Cherno glanced inquisitively at Heidi.
"Unless, 'course, there's some other trip-hoppin' place that could hold these gas masks. That being said, we'll need to drive all three of these trucks, yeah? Perhaps quickly, as well. It is definitely getting dark. Harley and Threnody can take those two. I- well, I still have my license, even though its no real use right now, so I'll help drive the third and we can get a move on quickly."

Cherno loaded a number of supplies into the third truck before sitting in the driver's seat.

Madeline had been in one of the corners of the cave brooding in the darkness. She was tired, and thirsty, and irritated. The air down here was giving her a headache. She had to commend them all for finally getting Theodore's medicine to him. He seemed alright, for the most part. Almost too alright, for someone who had been out that long. She glared at him. She didn't trust him much anymore, but they needed to get out of here and he was the one who could do that for them.

Her cheek rested on her knees until he revved up the car. Quietly, she pulled herself up and moved to the back of one of a truck, carrying some extra supplies. She was tired. Theodore got into one truck to drive, probably to lead them, so she got into the back of that one. Best bet. She listened to him greet Ellio-twat like a homo. John still laid on the floor motionless. She nearly spat on him. While sitting in the back, she started to wash herself up with the contents of the case she had made sure to grab. It felt nice. Not a shower, definitely, but nice.

Theodore backed out of the cave and turned on the headlights, not taking his time at all. She felt sick. As they drove, she glared at the back of his head, oblivious to whoever else was in the vehicle.

"Say, Theodore...What was in that glass? Or, um. The vial you drank?"

He shrugged, keeping his eyes on the road without falter. "Something my father has always had me take. Medicine, he calls it. I can usually go a bit longer with out, but under high levels of stress...I don't know why, but I need it."

    Suspicious. Or maybe...?

Madeline shut her mouth until they stopped right in front of the entrance to another tunnel.

"Trucks won't make it through here." He muttered, getting out of the truck. "I'll bring the stuff back, don't worry about it. You guys stay in the trucks."

With that, he disappeared into the darkness.

Heidi followed after the others. As she walked, she shoved her hands into her pockets and felt something already inside. Curiously, she pulled out a piece of paper. What? What is this? It had a long code inscribed on it. That was strange. She would have to show it to someone. Who was ~T ? Was that the person that wrote down all the numbers? It made no sense. When they arrived back at the camp, Theo seemed to be up and getting all the trucks started. That was good. She quietly slipped into the backseat of the one he was in and sat pressed up in the corner.

Bernadette was relieved to see that they were finally getting somewhere. She climbed into the front passenger seat of one of the trucks. She hadn't had the opportunity to attempt driving American vehicles. Driving on the right side of the road seemed so odd and foreign to her. Everything was backwards. She smiled at Harley who took the driver's position of the truck.

Marina begrudgingly listened to everything Olivia had to say. She was most definitely a talker. The girl had a chatterbox in her like no tomorrow. When Olivia flew off, Marina drove the bike in the direction she had sent her, going in between the two buildings and carefully pulling up to the Orchestra Hall. Marina shut off the bike in front of the doors and knocked down the kickstand. She slipped off the side, burning her leg on the engine. She cried out in pain. It stung the pr-existing burn sores and she started crying as she limped her way inside. The pain was excruciating. Marina tumbled onto the stage and knocked on the trap door five times, just as she told Temperance she would.

At the sound of the knocking, Temperance hesitantly lifted the lid on the wooden ceiling. She glare-smiled at the sickly looking brunette waiting on the other side. She glanced back at the other two inside of the space. "It's time for us to go. No more bitching." With shaky fingers, she pulled herself up and sat down on the stage. "It's about time."

Ooooh, Quin and her party returned with . . . with Cherno! Cherno? What was he doing down here? She thought to ask how he made it down, but was too distracted by Theo's question to say anything.

We're probably gonna need masks and suits she responded, playing drums with her flat belly distractedly, "And since we're gonna use all three trucks, Harley and Cherno should drive the other two.

Alright, start moving the supplies into the backs, Harley directed and Vanille was on it. they were gonna leave the safety of the tunnels, so she was expecting people to die, but that was . . . okay? Not really. Harley said nothing to her about their plan, but she felt like he had . . . changed his mind, or something.

After filling her share of the trucks with stuff, she hopped into the truck Harley was driving, behind Bernie who was taking shotgun. Just a few minute later, after starting off they came to a stop, and Quin, sitting next to her, leaned out the window to check what was going on.

    They waited.

Things were becoming more and more desperate as time went on. The bird lady said she had something planned so he could only place his hopes in her. As he sat there he noticed the sudden bang on the stage and before he could do anything Temperance had already made a move. When she gave the signal, Laurence immediately rose alongside her and went with her up onto the stage. TO see the light again was glorious and he wished to yell praise, but Laurence knew the time of praise would come later.

Officers roamed throughout the area and things were looking grim for Casey. Casey managed to hold up for a good long time but he needed to escape soon. Though he wished not to do it, Casey had to find Wallace and leave the area. As he attempted to leave, the sudden sound of a scream reached his ears and Casey's eye widened. The sound was close and Casey immediately rushed to the source of the sound. The moment he reached his destination his eye widened upon noticing Marina up ahead "You guys!?" Casey said quite shocked.

collapse : : oratorio of the first flight

Olivia flew into the Orchestral Hall, the officers sufficiently off distracted by the other end of the campus. Near the stage, she spotted Miss Spike by Miss Sario, presumably helping the others up.

"We must be hasty," Olivia chirped. "The distraction - even as lovely as the song was - was a temporary one, and the officers will most certainly return to their original positions after searching the forest outskirts. Is there any word on the trucks appearing?"
A voice called out behind Olivia.
    "You guys?!"

She turned, and flew towards the ... boy? Who was this?No matter.
"Come with us, stranger. And er, please do not mind the reasoning behind a talking bird.
We are waiting for trucks that shall unite us with the rest of our little party."

    "You guys!?"

Marina looked up at the source of the voice. She recognized it, but the figure seemed very different. "Casey?" she asked in disbelief. Beneath the short black hair and the eye patch, was the familiar sweet face of her favorite client. She missed Casey. "Casey it's so good--uhn," she winced in pain as her leg bled and oozed. Suddenly, the familiar birdy-figure came swooping in. Olivia had returned to them as well.

"We must be hasty," Olivia chirped. "The distraction - even as lovely as the song was - was a temporary one, and the officers will most certainly return to their original positions after searching the forest outskirts. Is there any word on the trucks appearing?"

Temperance stood up, her legs quaking all the way. She stared down at the brunette who was still lying on the stage. "No word. They should be meeting us at the Heliocanthea shortly though, so long as there are no problems. We need to leave immediately. We will be sitting ducks once we get there, but hopefully not for long." She groaned in frustration. They needed to get out safely.

"Are you getting up so we can leave?" she asked. Marina looked worse than she did.

"I cannot walk. Casey, Laurence, will you help me please?" Temperance rolled her eyes as the other girl lifted her arms up for them to help her stand.

Heidi turned to Elliot nervously, the paper in her hand. "U-um... Elliot..." She held it out for him to see it. "Th-this was in my c-coat. Does it mean anything to you?"

Elliot turned to look upon Heidi and the piece of paper she had, taking it for a better view. At first glance they looked like phone numbers but a second more would reveal there were too little or too much in some of the lines and without all of them matching up that theory was tossed aside. It wasn't like phones worked, either. "Hm... T? Theodore or his father I'm assuming..." Probably the father.

A copy. A copy would probably be wise to have, just in case the paper was lost. And so both could work on this if Heidi wished to do so as well. So he withdrew his little notebook and made sure to copy the numbers down exactly as shown on a fresh page before handing the paper back to Heidi. "Should ask Theodore about this once he returns. Until then I will see what I can make of it."

Theodore exited the truck quickly and searched around the back for a flashlight. He shook it once or twice and the light flickered on. Without hesitation, he entered the tunnel alone like a badass. When he reached the end, there was a single white door. Several system override pass-codes later and he was inside. He turned on the light and began the search for the gas masks and such.

They were a bit heavy to carry, and he would no doubt need to return...He could only get grab 4 on his own. He held the flashlight between his chin and the stack of masks atop the suits and took a deep breath. He still wasn't feeling so good, but now wasn't the time to rest, so he hurried back.

The trucks stopped and Kallisti leaned out of the window from behind Harley's seat to see what was going on. For some reason, Theodore was getting out of the truck and walking somewhere. She told the others that she was getting out to wait for his return, and so she did.

A few minutes passed with Kallisti thumbing the string of her bow, leaning against the truck. The tunnels were mostly dark, but there was a little light with the truck lights.

Coming to an ease, she saw Theo walking back to his front truck and was prepared to hop back into hers, until she spotted three unfamiliar figures following him. Oh . . . No. Had they been found? No, no shooting yet. She quickly contemplated the situation, and moved against the side of the truck on the dark side, in the shadows.

Before Theo got into the truck, she tried to motion to him, but he didn't see her. Her heart rate began to pick up as she fumbled with her bow and arrow slightly. Calming herself she pulled back an arrow, getting ready to pick another one and launch it. God, if she missed . . . Her aim was at those of the three strangers.

She let go of the first arrow, then nocked another one, aiming it shakily, and then letting it go. And finally, a third was almost panickingly shot. Oh, please don't let her miss.
