Elliot followed her back to grab a flashlight as well and a bag that had some supplies in it in case they needed something to carry things back. It could have been emptied so it may carry more stuff, but it had medical supplies which could come in handy in case something dangerous happened, and he didn't want stuff like that on the dirty ground. Besides, who knew what else they could be used for. Then he went back and once Heidi said she was ready he turned on his flashlight as well and began down the tunnel opposite of the trucks.

It was weird, doing this as he swore not to go in such a dark space, especially not only with one person who was also a stranger. But the space was not cramped and they had lights. Besides, just sitting around and thinking was getting him nowhere. He also figured that the fearful never made for winners, so this had to be done. He just hoped that this didn't get him killed.

He eyed Marina's small frame slowly descending the rungs of the ladder, and then watched as her eyes scouted the gap, " Don't look down, " he whispered, still holding out his arms. She looked back up, took a deep breath, and then lunged at him. Swiftly, he caught both of her arms, and then moved his hand onto the small of her back, ringing her in and against his chest.

Next to him, Harley sat her down and he watched her breath heavily and run her hands over her thighs. " You really should not have taken off your suit. If I do not get you sick from contact, the air certainly will. " she told him, and then slipped on a hat.

Harley shrugged and snorted a bit, " I'll be alright, " he told her, " I've run out of usefulness anyway, and the party will be better off with a smaller number. More supplies to go around - I don't intend to survive the night. " He said the last bit more to himself, but she probably heard it.

The both of them stood up and Marina directed that they should probably get going. His pale eyes followed her and her shaky legs, making sure that he'd be able to catch her if she fell. She was pretty sick, wasn't she? It'd be a shame if she didn't make the return trip.

The staircase did seem fairly stable and they both slowly went up. The medicine that Theo needed was probably in his room, or in some other room. At this rate, they'd never make it before the day was out. Harley marched up to Marina, grabbed her arm, and then swung her up onto his back, still going up the stairs all the while.

" Tell me where to go, and I'll carry you. " he told her, " Don't worry about instability, I'll be able to handle it. "

Everything had been finished moving, and all that was left was Theodore. She inspected him from all the angles and Vanille seemed to be mumbling to herself about calculations and a pulley system. That would probably . . . not be the best idea.

Behind a lot of the boxes in the storage area, there was a dolly-type cart that was found, and then Theodore was plumped onto that and then carried over to the new camp. Dragging him around as if he were a doll . . . Their only hope was that Harley and Marina were successful in finding this medicine they needed.

She watched Elliot and Heidi have a conversation, grab flashlights, and start walking into the darkness of the corridor that none of them had been down yet. It was probably not the best of ideas to let two . . . not-so-strong members of their party go by themselves, so Kallisti turned to Vanille and told her that she was going scouting after them, and for her to keep an eye on camp.

Kallisti grabbed her quiver, a knife, and a flashlight, then followed after them. " It isn't a particularly good idea to leave on your own without anyone knowing, you know. " she commented when she reached the both of them, " I will be going with you. "

Shortly after they headed off the sound of footsteps could be heard from behind. He jumped, spinning around only to notice Quin there. Her voice sounded as if she thought they were stupid, which was not totally uncalled given the foolish act committed here. "R-right... Slipped my mind."

He was just really curious if he could get Heidi to be the vessel for a summoning though, if the tunnel turned out to be clear anyway. Though maybe Quin could help with that. First thing's first though, what was in this tunnel?

John ignored Kallisti and went to take a leak instead. Muttering irritability about not having at least one cigarette before he returned and found that Theo had been moved via girl power. He contemplated what to do next as he made his way back to the new camp and once there he frowned. Frowned hard as some new girl simply waltzed off with their only Doctor. He was about to speak out when the resident Bowmen went off after them, when he saw that he was no longer upset with Elliot and instead upset that they had taken supplies. He hoped their little medic would come back. After all, they couldn't even Google anything medicinal. But maybe their medic was an idiot who just walked off into the dark tunnels with flat chested brunettes! John's faith in the boy would stay low until he like, stitched someone's half chopped off limb.

He rubbed his chin before climbing into a truck and thinking of red beads and white wands until he fell asleep in the cabin.

Thomas helped where he could, going back again and again and still checking in Madeline, despite him having a feeling that she wouldn't just let something go. But she wouldn't talk to him about, simply replying coolly when he talked to her. It was a little frustrating. So he opted to simply give her some alone time. At least for the moment. He was getting drowsy and his stomach had a dull throb to it was time to think of his parents. And not the abysmal stituation they were all in. How could something like photography and a nice smile help at a time like this? He contemplated talking to Madeline about it but he felt so tired, he rubbed his eyes and kept a five foot distance from Madeline as he quietly drifted off.

Although she hadn't been there long at all, Bronagh was already reconsidering why she had even entered the under part of the stage. It was not low enough to be a bomb shelter, and the fact kept crossing her mind that the woman with the bag head would drop a bomb on them and they all would be gone... poof. Out of existence.
    "Sh-she has s-s-some s-s-sort of pl-plan. We're supoosed t-t-t-t-to h-h-hold tight."
Bronagh gritted her teeth as she held in her comment, which she originally was going to blurt out in a scream. In the end, she still said it with a serious tone, "Hang tight? So we are supposed to just sit here and pray good luck comes our way? I am seriously doubting that us even being down here is safe. We have a stage above us, I ran in here to hide for a moment, not to safely dodge myself from bombs."
Bronagh covered her face as she continued, "I have been hanging tight long enough, don't you think we should take this time while we can to get the hell out of here?"
Bronagh finally became irritated with the sharp rock in her arm and pulled it out, "I am scared... I have a bad feeling about all of us being here, I feel like we are just sitting here as open targets preparing for death."
Bronagh felt her arm lose feeling as she spoke, "It's not that I don't trust people... but what if this... psychic friend who I am assuming is Marina, what if in the end Marina didn't care and would not mind if we were killed. She is probably somewhere nice and safe right now while we are locked in here."
Bronagh was finally starting to lose hope in everything. She looked over at Temperance, finally acknowledging that she was shaking. Bronagh took off the winter coat she had on and held it towards Temperance.

As her feet lifted up off the ground, a breath of air escaped Marina's lungs. She had not been prepared for that one bit. Harley continued to ascend the stairs, but now with her on his back. "Tell me where to go, and I'll carry you." he told her, "Don't worry about instability, I'll be able to handle it."
"How chivalrous of you." She checked the floor signs on the wall before resting her cheek between his shoulder blades. "It should be the next floor I think, towards the end of the hall. The door will have a small window, and inside we will be able to see all sorts of test tubes and measuring equipment, along with a small refrigerator housing the vials." Elliot's information had best be right. He was one of the smartest people she knew, but even he got things wrong on occasion. Antilum was practically a second home to him, but the place was so messed up, crazy, and secretive, that it would not surprise her if the information provided was inaccurate.
It felt nice to be off her feet for the first time in days, but she could not take satisfaction in the pleasure. Harley's previous words kept playing in her mind. Was he really giving up that easily? It kind of disgusted her, if she were being completely honest with herself. She liked how strong, confident, and sure of himself he was; but to just flat out admit that he was somehow no longer useful and want to off himself for the better of the group was plain wrong. As they turned out of the stairwell and into the hall, she lifted her head slightly so her chin was resting on his collarbone. "How can you say that about yourself? You are making yourself useful right now. If it were not for the fact that I am about two steps away from collapsing, I would just leave you. letting yourself die is not helpful to anyone." Her blue eyes were steely as they bounced back and from from the left side of the hall to the right. She kept watch for the appropriate door, not sure which it will be on. "I thought--" she paused, taking a breath, "I thought we were a great deal similar, but I guess I was wrong. For I will be lucky if I last another day, and yet I am still trying to do my best for the sake of everyone else. Whereas, you are plenty healthy and fine, and are removing yourself from the game for really no reason at all."
Marina did not enjoy lecturing people; it stemmed from her dislike of being lectured. Her voice was soft and smooth as she spoke. It would most likely not make much of a difference, for stubbornness was common among their kind. She would not be surprised if he placated her feelings for now, only to turn around and go through with it anyway. If his mind was already made up, the odds were slim that he would change it. "I would expect this sort of foolish behavior from a woman, but not someone such as yourself." she added after a long pause.
Never once did Marina try to look at him. The only thing that would do was potentially make her angry. She had no time to be angry. Finally, her too thin arm lifted and her slender hand pointed to a door on the right. She could see the faint glow of a glass-fronted refrigerator through the window of the door. Inside it were a couple dozen different vials, each with various colored liquids. "There," she said quietly.

They began their trip through the wide dark tunnel, only to be interrupted by the sounds of footsteps. Heidi was secretly thrilled by the arrival of a new person. It meant this other one could keep Elliot safe from her. "It isn't a particularly good idea to leave on your own without anyone knowing, you know." commented the girl that had rested her her hand on Heidi's shoulder when she reached the both of them, "I will be going with you." She breathed a soft sigh of relief. Heidi couldn't trust herself to refrain from doing something wreckless. More correctly: she couldn't trust them to refrain from doing something wreckless.
Oh pish-posh deary. We were only teasing before. Sort of. We didn't expect it to be this easy, though. You didn't even have to try luring him. He invited you to come with him into the darkness. It's almost like he's asking to die. However, we'll have to do something with this bow-girl before she becomes a nuisance.
"Please stop..." she muttered under her breath, keeping her eyes locked on her feet.
"R-right... Slipped my mind." Elliot told the girl with the bow.
Heidi remained quiet, not wanting to disturb either of them. The space around them became increasingly darker, save for the flashlight. It only lit a small amount of the path in front, but it didn't take long for the light from the bunker to disappear behind them. She glanced back over her shoulder once, only to see that it was a very faint speck of light; almost as if it wasn't really there.

Bernadette helped get Theo situated when Vanille came back with him on the dolly. They couldn't just go tossing him wherever. She opened the door to the backseat on one of the vacant trucks and climbed in to help pull him up. She looked at the perky dark girl with a half smile and held her arms our for Theo's upper body. "I pull, yuu push?" she suggested.

Temperance only half listened to Bronagh's rant. She could care less about what the girl had to say. She could care less about what anyone had to say. True, sitting and waiting was not something she was enjoying all that much, but given her health, she didn't have much of another option. When Bronagh finally seemed to be done, she offered her coat up and Temperance shook her head. She held her hand up, signalling the girl to stop and pursed her lightly purple lips. "If you want to l-l-l-leave that b-b-b-bad, then go. N-n-no one is st-st-st-stopping y-you." Temperance pulled herself to her feet. She couldn't sit still anymore, but she could barely stand the way it was. She leaned her body against a clothing rack and looked up at Olivi-bird with distaste. "You all can do what you want. I'm st-staying here until I know m-m-m-more. It's safer in here than venturing o-o-o-out th-th-there. I don't need any scared little p-p-pussies on my team."

Casey body ached as he moved it forward and glanced around the area. So far as he scanned the area no familiar faces rested around the area, in fact there was a rare amount of people even in the Academy in the first place. Casey could only assume that everybody had fled the school and attempted to find somewhere safe to reside, which was the most logical option for the moment. As he walked the sound of footsteps began to echo throughout the area. The footsteps were advancing closer and closer and a ting of fear reached into Casey. He needed to hide and fast. He immediately attempted for a sprint but the sudden quick movement of his body caused pain to immediately course through his body. Before he knew it the person stood behind him and an all too familiar voice reached him

“Hey kid, you alright over there”

His eyes widened as he turned and faced the old man that had called out to him. “G-granduncle Marshall” Casey stuttered.

“Casey?” the old man said quite shocked as he ran up to him “Dang kid you’ve been beaten down bad” Marshall said

“ME?! You lost a friggin arm” Casey said as he stared at the old man’s battered condition “what are you even doing here?” Casey asked

“Me? Most likely the same reason your hear, trying to find you brats and get you kiddos outta here” the old man said

“So the suspicions are true…officer Marshall” said a unknown voice as a weak looking officer walked forward with a pistol aimed at the two of them “Officer Marshall, the rumor about you aiding the wanted have been confirmed. Please stand aside while I apprehend the boy, he is wanted by the government” said the officer.

The two were stunned and the old man cursed himself severely for this. His hearing was not what it was before, and had it not been for the bombing he would have been sure to hear the steps of the officer “you’re a fool, you think merely sacrificing these teens will accomplish anything!? Pathetic! What kind of men would dare sacrifice children!” the old man said with disdain.

Casey could only stand there silently as he watched the two speak. He chose to come here but was that the best option now? Did he ruin the chance for anybody in the school to escape? Did he ruin things for his granduncle? How many times did Casey have to screw up in order to help?

“The word is burning, people are dying, if it means ending it then so be it” the officer yelled as he pointed his gun straight at Casey “JUST DIE” the officer yelled as a gunshot was fired.

Casey’s eyes widened and everything froze; the bullet that had headed straight at him did not reach him, but instead found its way into the chest of the old man that had stepped in front of him. As the mighty old man’s body fell Casey wished to yell out to the man, he wished to yell out anything, but all that came out was a yell of anguish as the man fell. His body shook as his eyes stared down at the fallen man. His hands and legs shook and the pain that resided in his body burned strong. Another person in his life died, the man died for HIS sake, what would Heidi say to him? It was his entire fault, he was the reason that his granduncle died. His eyes stared up towards the officer that had his pistol pointed at him and his body suddenly began to move. His body ran straight to the officer and his hand reached into his pocket as he did so. This move was suicide, but it was the only thing he could do.

The officer shook, the idea that he took a life had truly sunk in, to merely say you would kill somebody was one thing, but to actually do it was another. It shook him to the core, and before he came to his senses the boy had rushed to him. His arms shook and the moment he saw just what the boy hand fear instantly overcame him. Panicking the trigger was pulled but the target continued to rush forward and pain reached his chest.

As he walked, his mind pondered on Marina's condition. She was fairly light on his back, and it was like she was too frail - that if he squeezed hard enough, she might break under his grasp. He quietly listened to her directions and followed them, making sure each of his steps was carefully placed before continuing.

The two of them were quiet, and Harley thought of his soft night resolve. It probably would have been better to have not said anything to Marina, but for some reason, he couldn't help himself. Huh. Maybe he was sad that he would be going, that he wanted someone else to know why? Vanille should have been enough.

" How can you say that about yourself? " Harley jolted slightly, but continued. Ah. Here came the lecture. " You are making yourself useful right now. If it were not for the fact that I am about two steps away from collapsing, I would just leave you. Letting yourself die is not helpful to anyone. " That depended. To him, it was all a matter of perspective. He could think of a few other candidates to die in his place, like Madeline.

Each person had a place in the party; the only question he had was, what was his? He was no damn leader. He wasn't willing to take the fall for anyone, or to go out of his way to direct all of the others, but hadn't he been doing that since Theo was out? Elliot was their doctor, Vanille was their survival specialist, and Theo was their navigator. Kallisti was a scout with a bow, John was extra muscle . . . Everyone else was just extra hands.

They ascended to the next floor.

" I thought - " she paused, taking a breath, " I thought we were a great deal similar, but I guess I was wrong. " He had thought that, too. Being honest, he still did. " For I will be lucky if I last another day, and yet I am still trying to do my best for the sake of everyone else. Whereas, you are plenty healthy and fine, and are removing yourself from the game for really no reason at all. " Y'know, see, that's why he kept it to himself. He coughed slightly.

What did she want him to do, survive? For what? Only one person could win the game, he was pretty sure that person wasn't going to be him. He was confident of that. It wasn't that he was unsure of his skills or anything, it was just that there were others more qualified, like Cherno, or Vanille. The game was just a game. Nothing more, nothing less. So what if their prize for winning was actually existing? Who cared about that, anyway . . .

A long wave of silence washed them over as they continued walking on the next floor.

" I would expect this sort of foolish behavior from a woman, but not someone such as yourself. " It sounded distant, small, to his distracted mind. Damn woman. His resolve was completely shaken now. Ah, fuck. He needed to talk to Vanille.

Marina pointed to a door on the right, " There, " she said quietly, and he made his way over to the door and opened it. A refrigerator, opened held a few doze different vials of who-knew-what. He looked at each of them - one of these were the magical serum that would get the kid back on his feet? Gently, he set Marina down.

" You're one hell of a woman, " he told her quietly, grabbing a few of the vials, " And bring on a fair point. Guess I'm just tired. Which one of these damn things do you think it is? "

The knife that Wallace had given him before they set out on their journey towards the school, it rested in Casey's hand as he rushed forward straight at the officer. His granduncle had sacrificed his life to save his and Casey just couldn't give his life away so easily. A gunshot was fired but Casey was not hit, he merely ignored the shot and rushed forward with all his might. His body ached, pleading to stop, but his mind told him to run, to rush forward and kill the threat. Once the officer was in arms length Casey placed all his strength into the hand that held the knife and immediately thrust the knife into the man's chest.

With that single action he did the unforgivable and became a murderer. As the officer collapsed Casey panted as he stared in horror at the stabbed man. This could never be forgiven, it was true that the man tried to kill him and even killed his granduncle, but what did that solve? A man that wished to save the lives of others just died and his family would grieve for him. They would grieve for their loved one just like he did for his granduncle. In their eyes they would see him just like he saw the officer, a person that killed the person they found precious. His body shook and he stood there dumbfound, but the sudden coughing of a dying old man reached the ears of Casey.

Immediately Casey rushed towards the old man's side as the tears ran down his face "Granduncle please! please don't leave me! just endure! please I'll make sure your alive! just don't leave me!" Casey sobbed and pleaded to the old man.

"Ah I wish I could my boy...but my long life has met its end.." the old man said closing his eyes "Casey....you've grown strong my boy, oh how I wish it didn't come to this, oh how I wish I could still be around and help you teens with this chaos, but know I believe in you Casey...know that I believe that you are strong, both you and Heidi...you two will survive this....I am sure" the old man said as tears ran down his face "Thank you Casey, you helped fulfill an old man's death wish. I've seen many people die and though I've tried my best to save other in the end I've failed. Everyday I wished I could save at least one person and when Altair died I felt it was the end for me...that I was worthless" the old man said as he opened his eyes and stared at Casey with a warm smile "but to be able to die saving you...this is how I wished to die" the old man said closing his eyes one more "Wait for me Altair...We'll be kicking each other's ass in the land of the dead" the old man said. And so, with a smile wide upon his face, the Damn Old Man passed away.

"Granduncle Marshall? GRANDUNCLE!" Casey yelled as he embraced the corpse of his granduncle and shed as much tears as possible. "WAKE UP! OPEN YOUR EYES YOU DAMN OLD MAN! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME" Casey yelled as he let out a scream of anguish. He cried and he cried and cried until his body just couldn't possibly handle crying any more. The noise was sure to attract other but he didn't care. He wanted to die, he wished not to cause any more harm. He was weak, he was pathetic, there was no hope for him, but a single voice changed that.

"Your strong and you don't need me watching over you. I want you to march on..."

That single memory gave him strength, it reminded him that his life was not just his own, it belonged to those that loved him and those that had believed in him. Altair and the old man believed he was strong. He couldn't give up his life just like that. The tears stopped and Casey immediately stood up and took one step forward "Farewell...granduncle Marshall" Casey said as he walked away from the corpse of his granduncle and walked up to the officer. Taking off the man's utility belt and placing it on himself Casey left the area that held the two corpses. People were sure to come investigate, but Casey was ready for them. If death awaited him then Casey swore that it sure as hell wouldn't get him easily.

Harley opened the door effortlessly and set her down gently once inside the room. She watched as he opened up the small refrigerator. "You're one hell of a woman," he told her quietly, grabbing a few of the vials, "and bring on a fair point. Guess I'm just tired. Which one of these damn things do you think it is?"

She chuckled lightly at the notion, feeling a little like her old self, and held a few different vials in her hand. "That is nice to know. I thought I sounded naggy." Marina began to uncap the vials and plucked the others from Harley. "Elliot said it is supposed to smell sweet, like cotton candy. Maybe," she paused, stepping back, "I should be the one to test them. What further harm could they cause me?" She laughed nervously as she took a whiff from a few different vials. Two of them burned her nostrils, one smelled pungent and sour, another had the sweet scent of flora, there was one that made her gag, three more she could not really place a distinguishable scent too, and finally, one like cotton candy. Marina set each of the different vials back in their place holders and pursed her lips as she shook the vial of cotton candy scented liquid. "I hope this does the trick. I really have know idea what it does, but if it makes him better, that is all that matters."

She grabbed two more similar vials and wrapped them up in a piece of cloth before sticking them in her pocket. "We should be getting back. The sun is already setting. There is still a lot to--" she fell to her knees coughing. Marina ripped the mask off her face and covered her mouth. Her hands were coated in a fine layer of blood. She clutched her sides, shaking. Marina shook her head slowly as it finally began to settle and used the table to help pull herself back to her feet. "There is no way I will make it back Harley." She sighed sadly and a tear began to trickle down her cheek. Marina wiped her hands on the scrub bottoms and pulled the vials back out. "Take them." She could not keep going like this. "I will catch up. Take the vials and heal Theodore. Get the trucks going. There are others still on campus. I know where they are. Meet me there." Marina smiled at him reassuringly. "I have transportation in the parking lot. I will go there and get them, and then we can meet up at Hydrangea Gardens."

Marina rested her hands on his shoulder and leaned into Harley's body. "Please. You may have given up on yourself Harley Jackson, but I know you have plenty of use. If only I could have seen some of that prior." She laughed lightly and gave him a playful smirk before lightly shoving him towards the door. "However, I will not protest you carrying me back down to the lobby, but there is no way I can make it down the ladder and there is absolutely no way you can carry me while climbing." She gave him a stern look, daring him to challenge her authority. Marina used to intimidate people, now she probably looked no more intimidating than a sick kitten. How sad.

Heidi walked silently was they made their way through the darkness. After a bit of time, they rounded two corners and came to a T. They could go straight, or turn left. She stopped walking, shining the light in both directions. It would probably be best to head in the direction that was least likely to get them lost. If they started going off in every which way, they were bound to end up lost in this maze. That sounds like a good idea though. Let's get them lost! She shook her head back and forth before looking up at Elliot and Quin. "Wh-which way?"

She didn't want to be the one to make the wrong decision. Why did she even agree to go with Elliot into the maze. So we can play. I don't wanna play. That's not your decision anymore deary. We're tired of watching and waiting. Do something, or we will. Heidi bit down on her lip until the metallic taste of blood dripped into her mouth. She made a face in disgust before dropping the light of the flashlight to her feet. She didn't want anyone to see her face. She didn't know these people, or trust them. More so, she didn't trust herself. They weren't safe here with her. They were ready to act. The time for fun and games ended awhile ago. Heidi had received the brief opportunity to understand what it felt like to be normal. She loved it, for the most part. Why did she have to be different? It wasn't fair.

Her gaze lifted to the ceiling above her. Why did you have to make me this way? Quit crying. You would be all alone if it wasn't for us. I'm all alone because of you. They rolled their eyes and shrugged their shoulders. "Go away." The plastic light excreting cylinder fell to the floor as she grabbed her hair. Heidi's fingers intertwined in the thick dark locks and pulled hard on her scalp. "Go away," she said more forcefully.

Rubbing the back of his neck, he listened to what their jewel might smell like, and then Marina was smelling the no-doubt slightly dangerous vials of liquid that seemed to glow from the refrigerator light. After a few nerve-wracking minutes, there was one she picked out, " I hope this does the trick. I really have know idea what it does, but if it makes him better, that is all that matters. "

He looked at the one in her hand, and then the others. Would it be alright for them to take all of the vials, just in case the one they had wasn't the right one? He grabbed a few of the others and slipped them into the pockets of his pants for security, and then looked at his partner, " Just in case, " he said. She was looking worse every minute. He didn't feel much different - maybe a little nauseated, but the effect that the radiation was having on her was almost unreal, and he was scared for her.

Harley didn't think Marina was going to make it through the night.

" We should be getting back. The sun is already setting. There is still a lot to - "

" Marina! " Harley explained, dropping to his knees with her and putting an arm around his shoulder. Fuck. Blood form her mouth - she was deteriorating from the inside, " Marina . . . " he said, slightly helpless.

Shakily, the girl got back to her feet and Harley kept her steady. " There is no way I will make it back, Harley. " she told him sadly, and a tear went down her face. He wiped it off, sighing as well, " Take them. I will catch up. Take the vials and heal Theodore. Get the trucks going. There are others still on campus. I know where they are. Meet me there. " And she smiled at him. Harley couldn't help but feel pain in his chest.

She leaned into him and he wrapped a gentle arm around her waist to keep her supported. Damn, this was too much for him. He was such a sensitive idiot. " Please. You may have given up on yourself Harley Jackson, but I know you have plenty of use. If only I could have seen some of that prior. " Marina laughed lightly and gave him a playful smirk before lightly shoving him towards the door.

He stood at the door staring hard at her for a long moment. She wanted him to just . . . leave her here? Harley contemplated it, but he wasn't sure he was capable of - " However, I will not protest you carrying me back down to the lobby, but there is no way I can make it down the ladder and there is absolutely no way you can carry me while climbing. "

. . . Well, he'd just have to settle for that, then. He grabbed Marina and swung her onto his back, not saying a single word until they'd gotten to the elevator shaft. He set her down and then peered at her. " You will meet me at the school, " he demanded, " you said that you would. I intend to hold you to that. Die before then, and I'll never forgive you. " Not that those words were much of a threat, but he meant it.

Harley grabbed Marina's frail shoulders gently, pulled her in and then kissed her. Just like that. She was cold, but he was warm enough to let it linger for a long moment. It wasn't any sort of . . . relationship-standard kiss, but more like from player-to-player in this god-awful situation. It wasn't desperate, messy, or anything like that. It was a kiss. A meaningful kiss. " Incentive. " he breathed when pulling away. " I'll see you there, Marina Sario. " and then he disappeared down the elevator shaft.

When he came back to camp, there was no Elliot to be found. Goddammit, where was that kid? Of all the times . . . " Vanille, where the hell is Elliot? " Was that Theo on a . . . dolly? Harley shook his head.

" He went out exploring with Heidi and Quin! " she told him, and he palmed his forehead. They needed communication radios. ****, this was a bad time for him to be gone.

" I have Theo's medicine, " he said in a hurry, pulling out the cotton-candy scented vial, " and I don't know how to give it to him! Does he just . . drink it? Inject it? Elliot! " Harley called out, he was in a hurry. He had to meet Marina at the school. Fuck it, he didn't have time to wait. He stocked over to the dolly, and moved Theo around so that he was cradling him.

He hoped this was the right one, goddammit. He tilted Theo's head down gently, popped open the vial, and then poured it down his throat, moving his adam's apple all the while. This had better work.

While walking, Kallisti couldn't help but feel that the two people she was accompanying were not to be trusted. There was a certain . . . atmosphere around the both of them that was very suspicious. Their small party walked for a little while, made two rights and then came to a fork in the road. Both tunnels were relatively the same size as the one they were in now, but the question was -

    " Wh - which way? "

Kallisti looked to Heidi, and then to Elliot. It would probably be better for them to stay in the large tunnels so that the trucks could drive through them, but their extent of scouting was . . . difficult.

" Straight. " Kallisti said, and she hoped that whatever might be down this path didn't kill them off just yet. Off in the distance, she thought she might have heard a faint yelling, but it might have been her imagination. She waited for the other two to begin walking before following after them, " Here is to hoping that we find something worthwhile and not our deaths, mm? "

There was something wrong with the both of them, and Kallisti wanted to not be walking in front of them, just in case they tried anything sneaky. They were only moving for a few minutes before she heard one of the flashlights clatter to the floor, and she immediately removed her bow from its resting place, grabbing an arrow and nocking it.

" Go away. " Heidi said, and Kallisti looked warily at her; who was she talking to?

" Heidi . . . ? " she asked cautiously, lowering he bow just slightly. " Are you alright? "

    "Enough is enough, my dears."
Olivia fluttered out her dirtied white wings and flew towards Miss Spike, landing upon her shoulder with a dusty huff. She turned her head to Miss Williamson, with a gaze as intense as a cybernetic dove could offer as such.
collapse : : oratorio of the first flight

    "Miss Williamson."
Olivia adjusted the tips of her wings a bit. Oh, she hoped she was not tickling poor Miss Spike. And even if she were, she would hope that Miss Spike enjoyed it. But this was no time to act silly. How scared was this girl? Olivia didn't blame her, no, but she hoped that there would be a bit more backbone to the young lady. In her time, it was an expectation ...

"Miss Williamson." Olivia's mildly metallic, chirpy voice echoed through the small room. "While it's fine you feel safe and unsure here, would you rather risk your life, alone, up on the surface, where you could be hunted down and, dare I say, murdered at any moment?"

Olivia's position among the students never was direct. She was better at galvanizing others into doing things, of course.
Oh, how Lorinda was doing ...

"It may be true that not many of us are fond of each other, yes. But, Miss Williamson, in times of crises such as these, 'tis in the best interest if you'd stay with us, and at least provide the skills I know you do possess to get us out of this little tiddy, what say you?"

Olivia briefly turned towards Miss Spike, looking her in the eye. She seemed cold, did she? Cold and depressed. Of course, who wouldn't be such in this godforsaken radiation mess?

She turned back to Miss Williamson.
    Ack.
For a moment, her vision blurred and glitched.
That cursed radiation was going to be the end of her soon ... right. Right, she should get it out of the way soon.

"Miss Williamson. Have faith in human beings when crises hit them collectively. And-" She strut along Temperance's arm. "If you truly do not believe her, then let it be certain that I do have a back-up plan we will be able to follow through if all of you would be patient and respectful."

    "But alas ..."
Olivia gazed back at Miss Spike. Ahaha ...
If birds could smile, hers would be cunning and sinister.
Olivia moved her bird body closer to Miss Spike's cheek.

"Look here, Miss Williamson. You have given Miss Spike her coat, and I have given her the warmth of my Viola dear's woooooonderful plumage. Kukukuku. Have faith in yourself and in others." Through the voice of this bird, her ordinarily ticklish laughter turned into something canned and mildly monotonous.

    Hahaha.
    Curses. Curses to it all.
This nonsense couldn't stay on forever. It was all fun and games until people perished under terrible circumstances, and nonesuch could be made about it. And here they were, children -- mere children -- knowing little and wishing to work together even less, having been forced to escape through these treacherous war zones in order to potentially sacrifice the lives of thousands at the hands of terrorists the country had nothing to do with.

    What-
    What would her father say?
    ... no.

NO. No. May that man burn in the bombs' clouds of mushroom flame.

Her thoughts briefly turned towards the others.
The amnesiac Mr. Roncesvalles and malchik, especially. Marina and the ladylike Quin and her rough-and-tumble cousin. And even that whiny, mopey boy who was the son of the Antlium scientific nonsense brigade.
Malchik. That terrible, stupid mutt. He was alive, yes?
He better be. All of this calamity had not let up the continuation of their lessons yet ...

    ...

How painful, it was, to shine on in an existence such as this. Where much laced the lace of one's dress and mistrust grew ripe on trees. In these past few days, Olivia had become a master of the facade, for despite her words she could feel nothing but a bubbling bitterness at all of existence, only occasionally poking or spewing out. A bitterness- a bitterness that she had not experienced in such a long time, and thus felt so alien to her.

    "Miss Spike," She began, absentmindedly.
From within her plumage, connected to a few small metal plates, Olivia picked out the tiny cube that the malchik had picked up in the terrifying ... terrifying laboratory. The one that could have contained her body.
It was worth the risk, for now.
"Miss Spike, this cube contains my original body. When I return, I would enjoy it very much so if you may help me enact the correct computational procedures to return my consciousness. I certainly hope your voice is fly with that."

    Double pun.
What a terrible time to use the tricks taught to her by that unchanging Mr. Cherno Roncesvalles.

"For you see," Olivia turned her head towards the ceiling.
"I may as well use Viola's body for our own advantage until the smell of the rains may change. I shall fly out towards the campus and keep a look out for Miss Sario, and potentially lead her here. They cannot hunt a bird that has the power of quick flight and virtually no media association with the lovely lady named Olivia. My flight is fast, but my trajectories and communication systems are damaged from all of the radiation, so time may take longer than otherwise."

In her mind, Olivia let out a deep sigh.

"If you will excuse me, it shall only be a few moments. If not a soul, Miss Sario or otherwise, appears, then I shall find a way to help lead you all myself. The forests and lone roads are my very paradise."

And with that, Olivia fluttered her wings quickly and rose, flying out of the room through the hole in her small cranny.

xxxxxThere! There was the party! Shit shit shit shit shit shit. He wasn't late, was he? Goddammit, they could all get hurt and it would be his fault. Hurry your useless self up, Cherno! His feet moved like blurred lightning, the tunnels filled with sharp cracks as his boots echoed through the dark emptiness. The beam of his flashlight played and danced with the wet tunnel walls, and the loneliness crushed his soul.

    This was ridiculous.
It was ridiculous, but it was quiet. Quiet, simple.
It was almost peaceful, if not for the dreadful hell they were in.

    Eventually- eventually-
There! There they were! Cherno picked up his past, his legs flying over in arches, and he yelled out, frantically.

... His vector of running had too much force behind it.
    Oh fuck.

    "AY YO! SCALPEL! SCAAAAAAAAAAAAALPEL!"

His voice echoed loudly through the tunnel, but he was able to time it marginally well. The notepad he clutched tightly in his hand bore the data of his efforts. Weak points in these tunnels had specific functions to them, and by identifying them in certain areas, he could make sure things did not collapse - among other uses. All of that work had left his hands dusty and chalked.

A few loose pebbles jumped down from the side of the wall, stirred awake from his noise.

But right now, Cherno was worried more about his momentum.

    "SCALPEL WATCH THE FUCK OUT-"

Cherno tripped on one of these pebbles and flew wildly past the others in Elliot's party, and with a fearful face, crashed straight into him.

Unsure of which way to go himself Elliot decided to go with Quin's choice, as it was probably the one he would have made himself. They had started down it but it was not too long afterward where the small girl started mumbling for someone to go away. Heidi must have quite the mental state to be like this, he figured, but so did he and yet he was able to keep moving forward. She was holding them back like this. He couldn't just say that though, not when he had only just met her today. Or was it yesterday. It could have been past midnight now. Oh, if only he had brought his watch along but he had actually forgotten it. And on the worst possible day too.

Either way the point remained the same. No being mean, not now. So he turned to her, wondering if she was talking to them or someone else, someone only she knew. He couldn't ask if she was okay now though, since Quin already did. This left him to remain silent until she replied. Or at least, that was the preferred option.

No such luck would find its way to him though as shouting was heard. And judging by what the voice was saying it had to have been that annoying, forgetful bloke who he didn't want to be associated with. He would have no say in that either though, as instead of silence he called out for him to stop only to be cut off with the collision, which also force him to be very much involved with Cherno.

Hurting, he pushed the boy of while grumbling with annoyance. "Could you not have been more careful?"

Harley swept her off her feet and onto his back in one fluid motion. They said nothing to each other the entire ways down the stairs and across the lobby. When they reached the elevator shaft, he set her down and faced her. She stood shakily. Her body was destroying itself from the inside out. She could barely stay upright. If she managed to make it through this day, there was no doubt she would crash for days. Going so long without any food or sleep only made things worse, but she had no time for either of those. They only slowed her down. So much to accomplish in so litt-- "You will meet me at the school," he demanded, "you said that you would. I intend to hold you to that. Die before then, and I'll never forgive you."

How silly of him. Oh, Harley... She nodded, smiling. "I promise."

When he grabbed her shoulders, her eyes widened. He pulled her in and then kissed her. It was surprising, but appreciated. She was cold, but he was warm enough to let it linger for a long moment. She could feel the warmth even as he pulled away. Marina knew what it was. It was a kiss. A meaningful kiss--nothing more, nothing less. "Incentive." he breathed when pulling away. "I'll see you there, Marina Sario." and then he disappeared down the elevator shaft. It was quite the form of incentive, however, she did not picture herself ever getting a second from him. Even if they do manage to rendezvous, her body was too weak to handle anything further--maybe another kiss, but definitely nothing more. A kiss might do for now. She smirked as his head disappeared into the darkness of the shaft.

"I will see you there," she said into the now empty lobby, save for herself. With Harley gone and taking the medicine to Theodore, that only left one more portion of her plan to be completed. Honestly, she had no clue if she could operate the bike any further. Her body was just too weak, but she would try. It was more maneuverable than a car, but a car did not require her strength to keep upright.

How long would it take for Harley to get back to the others? How long would it take for Theodore to get up and running, or for the trucks to exit the tunnels? She would probably make it to the school before them, but how long would she have to wait?

Her legs quaked the entire way out to the motorcycle. Marina secured the face mask around her ears and pulled the key out of her pocket. Her thin trembling fingers turned the key in the ignition, and the bike roared to life. She almost could not even swing her leg over the seat. Marina angled the bike so that it was standing straight and kicked the stand with her toes. It stung, taking a couple tries to do so. Her fingers weakly wrapped around the clutch and gas, easing the bike to start driving. Her body was so frail and aching. She did not have on as many layers as before, making this drive to be very cold.

Heidi had yet to reply when there came another voice, and Kallisti sighed with exasperation; she didn't know how many more surprises she could take down in these tunnels before she shot someone else.

" WILL YOU KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN, YOU BAFOON! " she yelled in a whisper, but the loud voice came again, and she shipped her bow and arrow away, " Good lord, you are quite bent on having us found, aren't you?! " she hissed.

. . . They tripped. Kallisti raised her eyebrows.

" . . . Cherno? " she said, but he had been to busy crashing into Elliot to even pay the slightest attention to her.

" Could you not have have paid more attention? " Elliot grumbled, and Kallisti laughed at this little scene. It was a little refreshing to have such silliness go on. She went over to the two boys and set them up on their feet.

" Well, if it isn't Cherno Plume, " she commented, " Come to have us all found now, have you? " Her eyes carefully scanned the all that they were in, looking for anyone that might have heard. She then looked to Heidi, and returned her attention to the others. " We were just scouting. Pleasant enough surprise, running into you down here. "

Olivia waited, and the wait was unbearable.
collapse : : oratorio of the first flight

She perched atop a tree in, well, what was left of Hastings Garden.
Long ago, the school had been evacuated. What was left was a derelict shell of a once-blustering, boastful academic hub. The crown jewel of scholars in the region. The Academy was now a hollow shell, devoid of students, grey in temperament, and filled with straight-faced officers patrolling the damned area. They disgusted Olivia, all of them. They all reminded her of him.

He wouldn't be among them, would he?
... Of course not. He couldn't be.
    Hahaha.

But from here, she was safe, for now. Safe, and with a wonderful view of the nigh-lifeless, lawless landscape of the school. If the officers were to see her, she would simply be to them a mere bird. Olivia wondered if they were aware of the incident at the Damocles laboratories all those days ago.
    Oh, most likely not.

But waiting here, waiting for Miss Sario, offered a beautiful, yet haunting, introspection on everything around her. The clouds were a deep, condescending overcast, and they had been for the past few days. Was it all of the violence? Would the rain come, and reinvigorate her soul in this half-tinned can with the powers of flight?

    The air seemed clean, though.
And the mild silence was soothing. It was as if the Academy, for once, was at peace. Yet, this peace came only with its death.
Olivia felt a chill in her feathery body; not from the cold, but from the simple contemplation of that very idea. She almost felt like singing. How long had it been, even?

    Singing ...
Was it entirely possible she could distract the officers?
It would allow Miss Sario to at least reach the stage without troubling incident. Olivia kept that idea in her head, and decided to offer the parlance to Miss Sario when she would appear. It was a shame, a true shame! She could not sing to that aloof lady. Her very voice would lead all of those buffoon officers to Miss Sario's point of arrival, and that would be terrible ...
Terrible ... terrible, just like everything else in this existence that has turned so very morbid.
But at the pith of Olivia's heart, she still felt the small sparks of some remaining warmth.
She was just happy Miss Sario was alive, again.

But what about Ben dear? ...

There was a whistle on the wind.
Olivia took off from the gnarled branch of the oak she was perched on, and relocated to the branch of a large spruce at the very edge of the campus, close enough that she could easily see any incoming traffic from the road.

Theodore sputtered, green eyes snapping open to a dim figure hovering above him. His tongue and throat burned, and the familiar scorching trickled it's way down into his stomach...His mostly empty stomach. The cotton candy scent was overwhelming. He needed to hurl, but had enough wits about him to register Harley's pale brown eyes gazing down at him. It would have to wait, so he took a hard swallow and mentally willed his stomach to calm down. Ooh, this was terrible.

Slowly, the dark haired boy pulled himself up. He didn't remember what had happened exactly, but besides the nausea sweeping over him, he felt relatively fine.

Somehow, Harley had gotten a hold of his medicine. That was good, maybe. Elliot would have been the only one to know of it, though. He would have to thank all of them...right after he emptied his stomach. Words weren't coming to him right now. Instead of trying to speak, he brought himself up to his feet and took a deep breath or humid air.

The bones in his arms and legs felt like jello, and his muscles quaked beneath his flesh. Still, he was able to take a series of baby steps to reach the storage area and grab a black plastic bag. He knelt in a corner of the den and threw his face into the bag, waiting exactly three minutes before allowing himself to vomit inside.

It was mostly fluids. He hadn't been eating much, apparently.

He was hardly surprised, though. They were underground. They had made it. That much he knew. And, they were at the second storage base. The one with the trucks. ...A glance over his shoulder confirmed this. Theodore hadn't spent an enormous amount of time down here, if he were honest. Each time he had been had been in the company of his father. Usually with construction workers, or other scientists. He wasn't exactly allowed down here, either, but because he didn't show the highest enthusiasm when it came to Dr. Timothy's works, the man was quite lax when it came to the pass-codes and such. How lucky for him.

Theodore took a few more moments to himself to grab a hard metal case from the storage area and place it on the ground. He turned a few dials at the top, and one of the sides lit up into a glowing red keyboard. After punching in a few numbers, the case popped open. He lifted his gaze to whoever was paying attention. The case had travel toothbrushes, toothpaste, mints, souffle cups, gum, floss, soap, razors, mouth wash, and sanitary wipes. He took a brush and a small tube of paste. Then, he took a large bottle of water and set it down in front of the case. His thumb and index finger almost came together; his way of telling them to only use a bit of the water.

Once filling up one of the souffle cups with the bottled water, Theodore took his place in the corner and brushed his teeth. He felt filthy. He then flossed, swished mouthwash and wiped his face and hands.

    Now he was feeling better.

Theodore stood and returned to the rest of them, clearing his throat and muttering a hoarse:

Thank you. Sincerely. For taking care of me.

He took a look around and sighed, exasperatedly.

Where is everyone else?He didn't want to say it, but he was afraid they had all perished somehow.
