You sure you won't be cold in that, Bernie? I'll bring an extra coat just in case.

She wasn't sure that it would fit the girl, but she didn't want Bernadette to freeze. Unfortunately they were still in winter and though the snow was finally stopping, the air remained icy and dry. She grabbed an extra coat of her's from the small closet and handed it to Bernie.

There were a few options they had, regarding what to eat, mostly on campus...To be honest, though, Nora didn't feel exactly...safe on campus anymore. She thought a change of scenery would be nice. The only setback was that she didn't have a car and thought it would be rude of her to ask either of them for a ride when she had invited them out. There had been a recent accident on the monorail and a bus didn't seem too appealing, either.

On second thought, maybe staying at the campus would be better. She wondered passively if she would have to live her life in fear from now on.

So, out of the door and through the halls they went until they were outside in the cold. The breath of fresh air was nice but she was happy to know that the cafe was not too far from them. Once there, she let them both order and got herself a small vanilla latte and a scone to start off with. They found a seat by one of the windows.

Upon the opening of the door Casey looked up at the nurse and gave her a nod of gratitude as he was let into the room. Walking into the room, Casey's eyes immediately caught on to the restraints that held Heidi. Immediately Casey felt a surge of anger and was about to yell but immediately calmed himself down upon realizing that those restraints were probably necessary. He knew that his granduncle was looking after Heidi and if even he decided it was best that Heidi was restrained then he shouldn't make scene about it.

It was this fact that made him realize that Casey knew nothing really about the girl. Sure they hung around each other and sure they knew Altair, but he never knew how she knew Altair. Glancing up at Heidi, Casey immediately smiled softly upon seeing Heidi's smile as well "Heya Heidi, you feeling a bit better?" Casey said. He never cared about her past and how she knew Altair, just knowing that Altair found her special was good enough for Casey. If she was special to Altair then she was special to him.

You sure you won't be cold in that, Bernie? I'll bring an extra coat just in case.

Bernadette gave her a reassuring nod, but it didn't stop Eleanora from fetching her a jacket anyway. She was grateful, really. She didn't want to trouble either of them with asking, so the silent offer was much appreciated. After slipping the slightly too small jacket over her arms, she did her best to button it up and followed the other two out the door. Her heels went click clack across the floor until they finally reached the outside. A shiver went up her legs and snow grazed her feet. These weren't outside winter shoes, but she would have to make due. Her toes felt as if they were on fire, turning pink from the could. Bernie could see her breath in front of her and she ran her hands vigorously up and down her arms for warmth.

When they arrived at the coffee shop, she couldn't be more thrilled to step inside. It was her first visit to an American coffee shop, but all in all it seemed pretty similar. Her cheeks were rosy, matching the tip of her nose, and earlobes. The weather was too cold for how she had been dressed. Bernadette placed an order for a large chai tea latte and waited by the counter for it to be up. The aroma of fresh coffee grounds enveloped her and she breathed in deeply. She had also purchased some sort of breakfast sandwich- english muffin, egg white, spinach, swiss cheese, and turkey bacon. Once the barista handed them over, she took a seat at the table with Eleanora. Bernie sipped slowly on the warm liquid, letting it work its magic throughout her body. She proceeded to nibble on the sandwich ocassionally, shooting timid glances at her friend. "El-uh-nor-ah," she finally said after a long pause between bites, "Vhy did yuu ah-sk abuut strange emails bevor? Did yuu git zohmething strange too?"

Casey smiled pleasantly at her as he walked into the room. She watched as Nurse Josephine hesitantly decided to step out of the room, leaving them with some privacy. Thirty minutes, she mouthed to Casey. With her eradic behavior, they weren't taking any chances. A latched clicked on the door, locking him in with her. Heidi smiled sheepishly up at Casey, clad in black hair. "Heya Heidi, you feeling a bit better?"

"Nh." She nodded back at him and watched him clear the distance between them. Heidi straightened her arms out, stretching the muscles that were growing tense. "Black suits you," she mumbled softly. The sedative held steady, corsing through her vains. They were quiet, for now. It was only a matter of time. "Hair still long though." She relaxed under the tension of the leather restraints, her body went limp and she rested her head lightly on the pillow. Heidi rolled her head towards the window, watching a bird fly by. Black lines criss-crossed the glass and the latch remained locked, not that it mattered. From what she could tell, her floor was higher up. The only thing jumping out that window meant was death. But then again. . . "Did you hear it- the message he left?" she asked the window. Heidi pointed at the phone on the nightstand with her finger, but didn't take her eyes off the glass. Melting snow dripped from the ledge. Water droplets fell in pairs and silently, she counted them. One. Two. . Three. . .

Upon hearing Heidi's compliment about his hair Casey smiled as he scratched the back of his head "Thanks...it'll feel weird without long hair so I guess I'll be keeping it" Casey said. When Heidi turned away from him and looked at the window, Casey remained quiet up until the moment she spoke once more "Message?" Casey muttered as his eyes darted over towards the phone resting on top of her nightstand.

Immediately Casey noticed just who's phone rested there and who Heidi was talking about. Casey rose his hand towards the phone and attempted to grab it, but his hand was shaking uncontrollably in fear. He feared the message that rested in the phone and just knowing Altair left a message brought his emotions in turmoil. After mentally preparing himself, Casey picked up the phone and played the message. After a while the message soon ended and with it's conclusion, Casey turned away from Heidi's bed. Tears once again fell down his face and Casey placed away the phone that belonged to Altair. In the end he was right, he knew Altair believed in him to be strong and this message confirmed it. Wiping away the tears on his face, Casey once again turned and faced Heidi "I guess we've gotta be strong" Casey said.

She felt bad for not offering Bernie a coat, it hadn't crossed her mind at the moment. But luckily Eleanora did and that was settled quickly. The trip there made her realize she needed to get new tires in her wheelchair soon, or at least get the air filled in them again.
Bronagh usually did not drink coffee, she was more of a tea person, but although it was an option here she still got coffee. She ordered a medium Mocha Iced Coffee despite it being winter, and a chocolate chip muffin. When she had rolled up to the table and joined them, she had taken a bite right as she heard.
"Vhy did yuu ah-sk abuut strange emails bevor? Did yuu git zohmething strange too?"
Bronagh listened to the conversation, she wasn't taking anything suspicious from it, just an oddball conversation about emails. Spam emails are always interesting, although she wasn't entirely sure if they were talking about spam emails.

Vergil soon finished what was left of his small breakfast and placed his tray with the rest of them. Once he was done with that, he turned and left the dinning hall headed outside. He had the entire day to do whatever he wanted, he just only had to figure out what. He didn't feel like working out today, that eliminated one option. He shrugged as he decided to figure this out later. Fortunate for him, he was walking by the coffee shop. Maybe he would stop for a drink while he waited.

She waited silently while Casey listened to the message. Her face was void of emotion as she stared out the window absently. She kept picturing his warm gentle hands covering her eyes. Occasionally she would even close them, pretending they were the reason she couldn't see ahead. Such a sweet playful gesture it was to cheer her up. It helped, until the awkwardness of Harley showing up ruined it. Heidi held no ill will about the situation, it was just unfortunate timing. The day had ended wonderfully regardless. "I guess we've gotta be strong," Casey finally said. It felt like days had passed since he picked up the phone. She still refrained from looking back in his direction.

The sound of the news hummed overhead from the wall mounted television. "Will you turn that off, please?" She asked flatly. Something broke inside her, something she hadn't felt in many years. Her will was crumbling. She couldn't keep fighting both them and the possibility of dying. It was becoming to much. The weight was unbearable. Heidi remained silent for a long while later. The only sound filling the room was the beeping of the heart monitor. She had heard them talking about removing it from the room, until her episode yesterday. Attacks like that were bad on her health.

Finally, she rolled her head over and looked Casey right in the eyes. Her usually chocolate brown eyes were dead of emotion. They were cold to the point of appearing almost black. Her face and body continued to remain void of all emotion and she spoke monotonously. "Casey? What's the point in continuing- in staying strong?" She glanced up at the ceiling then back down at him. "I'm tired of fighting." That's it deary. Just give in. We can handle it from here.

Everything was silent and once Heidi told him to take off the television he immediately did so. The hum of the television had annoyed him greatly and he did not wish to hear anything more about the tragedy that was Altair's death. It was such a relief to Casey to have it off and for now the beep of Heidi's life monitor was good enough for him. Upon the moment Heidi stared back at Casey, he immediately stared back at her eyes calmly. "We stay strong not for ourselves, but for those that care for us" Casey said closing his eyes.

"I don't fear hell, but I fear dying....I can die and suffer the agonies of hell, but the thing that would truly bring me anguish is to leave those people that love me...my mother, my father, my grandfather, my sister...they all would be crushed to see me leave their lives...just thinking that I brought about that sadness is maddening...I know for a fact Altair was afraid of leaving us" Casey said glancing over at Altair's phone "that is why he left us his message, he wished for us to move on even without him....he wished his death would not hinder us" Casey said as he glanced back at Heidi's eyes "Death is an unavoidable fact, one that is bound for every living soul, but if we move forward and live to the best of our abilities then there will be no regrets...we move forward for the departed...we accept their death as an invaluable lesson for the future and march on for not just our sake...but for theirs as well" Casey said.

Casey talked a lot, kind of like Zoey. It was all the same, just repeated differently. They needed to be strong not for themselves, but the people that cared about them. Who did she have that cared about her? They were all dead. That's right deary. It's just us. I bet we can get you out of those restraints. We can even get the boy to do it for you. There's not "enough time," she had managed to say out loud. The sound of her voice startled her. She hadn't meant to be heard. See, you're already slipping. "Everyone... that cares... is dead. No one will be sad when I'm gone," she told him matter of factually.

There would be no one to mourn her loss. Stacey didn't care about her. Ramona wouldn't even know something happened. Her grandmother was already dead. Anthony was gone, and so was Altair. She would be just another fleeting memory in these current people's lives. She glanced in the direction of the phone. There was still no word from Harley. He was probably angry. Did the news make him hate her? What was the saying? Don't shoot the messenger. Remember how well that went over last time? She remembered sitting in the car of the monorail, the last time she revealed someone had died. Harley lashed out at her to the point of causing tears. She remembered how cold and alone she had been out there in those forests. There was no one to protect her like so many had promised to do so. There was no protection for her. No one can save her from the nightmare she is living, both in and out of her mind.

Her eyes locked on a spot on the ceiling. It was seemingly unimportant, but it managed to hold her gaze. Her stare was distant and vacant, but at least she was currently lucid. "Casey, will you unshackle me?" she asked.

Casey merely closed his eyes "No Heidi...what about me? do you think I don't care? or how about granduncle Demetri? you think he wouldn't care about your death?" Casey said as he opened his eyes and glared at her "I don't care if you disregard me or not, but I will NOT let you spit on those that care for you...don't you dare insult their feelings" Casey said clenching his fist tightly "killing yourself will bring nothing but pain...do you honestly think that death is salvation?" Casey said closing his eyes as he went up to her bed and began to undo the restraints that bound her. He knew this would bite him in the ass later on, but it was something he felt needed to be done. Starting with the feet, we went up and undid the arms and took a step back. In the case that it was an escape plan, Casey made sure to stay in her way to the door.

She woke up and took a while getting herself ready, she put on some makeup and dressed up to get out of her dorm room because she really couldn't handle it. She put on a coat and gloves and headed out of her dorm room. The moment she was she turned her head and stared at her laptop on the table and whispered, "That is some crazy shit I am not dealing with today."

There was still snow on the ground from the blizzard, and the atmosphere was rather bland other than that. She clapped her hands together and decided to make a snowman. She started rolling up 3 large snowballs, the first one being the largest and the last one the smallest.
    x
She stacked them up on top of one another and she stretched for a moment before she saw a small bird fly into the snow. It was early for birds, but this bird happened to be an annual bird. She finished up the first snowman and started on a second one.
    x
For about a minute she stayed in shock in the small little field next to the dorm, she forced herself to turn her head to look at the building.
    x
Calm down sweetheart the dorm is right there, you need to calm down hun. You aren't in the middle of nowhere.
    x
She shook her head and although breathing a bit heavily, she continued building the men of snow.

Heidi sat up in the bed, rubbing first her wrists, then her ankles. Casey's words hardly affected her. She just shrugged them off and adjusted the bed so that it was propped upright like a chair. It was hard having conversations like this. Her mind was so fragmented all of the time. Killing herself seemed like the appropriate choice. "How long, do you think you'll last?" She was genuinely curious. Heidi had never contemplated how long she would last. The end seemed to be drawing nearer and nearer without even realizing.

"I don't want to hurt anyone. Always hurt people. I like Mr. Marshall, but he made a bad decision adopting me." Her head hung low and she pulled her knees up to her chest. Heidi winced at the sudden pain in her side, but did her best to ignore it. She ripped the little clamp off of her finger and the machine began to beep long and loud. Heidi pressed the power button on the side of the monitor and the screen went black.

She proceeded to return to the uncomfortably misshapen ball she had been in a moment ago. It hurt desperately, but at least the pain meant she was still alive- for now. "He could still be here, if I asked the right question. I didn't ask the right question." She shook her head in dismay. The first signs of emotion finally slipping through.

Casey closed his eyes and took a seat on a chair nearby. His words to her were useless and at this point Casey lost the motivation to even try and further. "How long? I'm planning on lasting the 100 days....it may be an impossible goal but its a goal I still wish to accomplish nonetheless" Casey said as he crossed his arms as he listened to her words "All this regret you are feeling....tell me have you ever actually tried to do something about it?...do not tell me you just sit there and feel sorry for yourself..." Casey said simply.

Olivia awoke quickly and realizing she was a bird again needed to take time to process her thoughts.
That was at the moment where she realized she had settled to sleeping nestled by Elliot's back.

    W-what? How did--

Upon finishing his routine Elliot searched the internet to discover that while on his little underground adventure nine students had died. Things were just getting crazier around here with each passing moment... Speaking of, he turned in his desk chair to glance at the bird still sleeping on his bed, wondering if that really was his friend in there. So bizarre.

However, despite how surreal that situation was and how little he cared for the victims, as none were people he knew of, that wasn't the most important thing.

All of the names the news listed were also in the email. And for so many to drop, before the deadline even, pushed him to the final point needed for the boy to take it completely serious. In fact he even decided to trace all the names listed to see how many of them were gone. By the end of this study he was uncertain of his future, or if one even remained for him.

Would he be dead soon? The thought of leaving this world stopped bothering him a few years prior but it wasn't like his life had being threatened since then. There was also Theodore and Olivia's names present, so surely their lifespans had shortened drastically just forty-four days ago.

Forty-four days. It was almost the half way point already. How dare he waste so much time!

Standing up he began to slowly pace the room, trying to think of a way to save those he cared for. For them to live, they had to win right? The email didn't even say anything about winning, though it did claim this to be a game, one with rules even. So there had to be a way. And there was...what was that line again...

"Whether or not you create or posses the gameboard has little to do with your ability to control it."

Was there a way they could take control? This was something he should invest time in.

"All this regret you are feeling....tell me have you ever actually tried to do something about it?...do not tell me you just sit there and feel sorry for yourself..."

Her eyes flashed up at him in a mixture of anger and self loathing. She buried her face in her knees, brushing the cut on her forehead against the fabric of the hospital gown. Heidi mumbled something incoherent and remained quiet for a long while. Nurse Josephine had yet to come back. They must have determined her stable enough to allow a longer visitation. Casey's company was both a blessing and a burden. He didn't understand. He didn't know what was wrong with her. "Do you know why I'm here Casey?" She lifted her head slightly to look at him. Her brown eyes shifted back and forth, watching the look on his face- absorbing the knowledge he was about to receive. "Not just the train injuries. More than that." She grew quiet again, as she thought of what to say.

Heidi gave him a small smile. Her usually messy hair had been washed and combed through hours prior. The bangs tickled her eyes as they grew too long. "I'm sick. Hurt people. This- this game, it gave me something- something never had before. Grateful, but won't last. None will last." She sighed heavily as her gaze drifted back to the window again. Casey shouldn't be here. She would only hurt him.

Opening his eyes, Casey witness her look of anger and self-loathing and merely stared back at it. He remained silent as he listened to her mumble and just sat there until she started making sense. Once she did Casey closed his eyes once more. He knew that this was more than a wound, that they restrained her for a more psychological reason, but the exact reason was unknown to him. His face did not change what so ever, the boy sitting before the girl was not the same cheerful and innocent Casey that she knew before. When she spoke her final words Casey reopened his eyes "I see..." Casey said as he stood up from his seat "Heidi...I won't abandon you at all...I want you to know that...you may not believe my words...and I cannot blame you...but know...if this is a game...then I will do what I need to win" Casey said as he stood up and turned away. "I just wish you would do the same" Casey said walking out of the room. With that the day came to an end for him and with it Casey fell fast asleep in his dorm room.

Isabella opened her eyes. Harsh sunlight shined through the window. She sat up and checked the clock. It was already well into the day. At least it was a Saturday; it gave her an actually excuse for sleeping in so late. She slowly lifted herself to her feet and walked into the bathroom. She ran her fingers through her hair. It was horribly greasy; disgusting. She turned on the shower and waited a few moments into it was hot to enter.

"I just wish you would do the same." She watched as Casey exited her hospital room and a sense of loneliness wash over her and a knot form in the pit of her stomach. She hadn't intended on upsetting Casey, but that's what she appeared to have done. I hurt everyone. He wants her to try to win with him? How did he expect her to last fifty-six more days when she could barely make it through one successfully? We will help you deary. Can you really? Of course. Just listen to us. What will you do? We shall make things interesting.

Heidi swallowed nervously. She was too emotionally and physically drained to even make an attempt out of the room, not too mention the doors and windows were locked. She had heard the latch lock into place after Casey exited the room. Everything was too taxing on her mental state of health. There was no one left to sit by her bedside, not that she wanted anyone to see her like this. She had tried so hard to not let people see the crazy side of her, but it was no use. They would always rear their ugly heads and show themselves. We take offense to that. We are not ugly. Heidi pursed her lips and curled up on the bed. Slowly, the back began to descend into its flat position, no longer angled upwards. She closed her eyes for the time being. Either Nurse Josephine or Doctor Mayers would be back soon. Until then, she wanted a nap.

It felt like classes were never going to resume, but that was one of the last things on Harley's mind. He had slept most of the day, more out of emotional exhaustion rather than anything else . . .

He had turned on the news that morning, finally ready to figure out who it was that died. First Bellhurst, the news reporters were saying, now the Brookridge Academy of Excellency. A murder case they called it, and the two schools had one student in common; Altair Geis.

Harley clicked his tongue. Altair's hand, sure, but it must have been a possession killing - not that anyone outside of the recipients of the email would know that. Not that any of the recipients were allowed to step forward and voice the truth. Then came the list of names.

Oh, the list of names . . . Harley knew there was a reason he disliked watching the news. Heidi's text had been too late, for the news had already delivered the blow. At least she didn't cause him more pain.

Kallisti was gone. Allison was gone. His best friend and his cou - Mm. Who was he kidding anymore. Kallisti wasn't even his cousin. That's why they seemed so incestuous all this time. Harley was adopted into the Lein family when he was little. He looked nothing like Peter, nothing like Lilith or Lorinda. He was adopted.

He didn't text Heidi back. She'd probably understand. Altair was dead, too. She was probably in mourning for him. Anthony was dead, too.

Harley kept to his room all day. When he wasn't sleeping, he was sitting up on his bed, his knees pulled in and his head resting on them. No matter how much sleep he got, he was completely exhausted. And when the right moments came, he cried.

It had been years since Harley cried, about anything. But he did, and it was thankful that the rooms were insulated enough to where no one outside would be able to hear him. So he cried more. Louder. Until his voice was hoarse and he ran out of tissues.

    And cried.

    And cried.

    And then some.

And there was little he could ask for. He craved some sort of comfort, now. Some sort of maternal figure. Not his mother. Not his grandmother. Surely, they both knew Kallisti was dead now. What would Lorinda do, now that she had lost her crowning jewel?

It would be a small funeral, he decided.

His throat hurt. His eyes hurt.

When the crying was done, he sat in bed and stared blankly at the wall. Hours had passed without him noticing, without him moving . . . And then it was later in the day.

He decided to text Heidi back. Heidi. She was his only friend now. Haha. Pretty horrible. With the way things were standing though, it seemed they would need each other, and he was willing to let it be. She still needed protecting - hadn't he promised? He did. But he needed her, too.

    Hey,
    How're you holding up?
    Doin pretty ****** myself

    I hope youre okay.

He set down his phone and picked up a book. He set the book down and sighed. Finally, he left the bed for the shower. Not that it was much better in there, but he felt clean, and it was easy to cry.

    He was tired.
