There is an add-on available for this: http://xenforo.com/community/resources/thumbnails-by-waindigo.223/

Still want to let people weigh in but just saying that it is possible.

He'll still need access to a Windows disc to repair some of the boot files. You're right that a bootable Linux disc is incredibly useful for backing up files, but Windows 8 already provides an option to fresh install the OS while maintaining your files.

Tummer, if you know anyone with a W8 disc see if you can borrow one. There are also places on the internet where such things are available.

You might have to set up the Control Panel with VAC (hit the Set button under Driver Parameters) to get the actual virtual audio cables to be recognized. I don't remember how it comes when you first install it.

First post I came across with a spoiler: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=118089767&postcount=23
It's pretty similar to ours at first glance. Instead of hovering, you click on the spoiler and the background color disappears, exposing the text. You could also highlight it to show it but that's not really how it's designed to work.

Won't be necessary but thanks for the offer. @libregkd recently became my code slave so if I can't find the time to do this I'll just ask him (provided he's willing I guess lol). I wasn't treating it with any kind of urgency but since you've brought it up & it's a pretty small task it can get done fairly quickly.

Neither thing you linked will work for audio devices, just getting that out right off the bat. The hardware solution would be a USB mixer, but those cost a pretty penny.

Virtual Audio Cable is what I use, but it can be confusing to setup, especially if you're going into it blind. It took me a while to figure out the proper configuration at any rate. I don't know what kind of limitations the trial version has but it's not too hard to get the full version if you know where to look. ;) I mean, piracy is bad, don't do it.

You'll need two instances of the audio repeater (MME) open. Make sure you right-click and run as administrator -- multiple instances never open for me unless I do this.

In the first, send your microphone's input to line 1. In the second, send your friend's microphone input to line 1 as well. Then just set your recording program (Elgato software) to capture off of line 1. Pretty sure that would do the trick. I can put together a video tutorial if you want, I use VAC a lot.

It's actually been my plan to gut the code altogether and redo it. XenForo's Custom BB Code system is vastly better than vBulletin's but I didn't really change the code at all when we moved (and it had problems from the start). I'd like to put together a less hacky solution that doesn't require both the hide & hidden tags, as well as one that doesn't rely on hovering (since that has mobile issues & it's easy to accidentally expose the spoiler). My plan was to do one similar to what they have on NeoGAF, but of course allowing custom colors to be used. So the suggestions are appreciated, it's already in the pipeline.

Reinstalling your operating system is last resort -- there's still some stuff we can do. ;)

If you still have the Windows 8 installation disc, put it in your computer and boot into it. Select the language and junk, then hit next. It'll give you an option to repair your computer. Hit Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Command Prompt. Run the following commands:
    Code:
    bootrec /fixmb
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
If it still doesn't work after that there are a few more commands we can try.

Hi everyone! As you probably noticed, we just had some short downtime. I decided to seize the opportunity of free time and boredom to deploy the latest version of XenForo on our live site. I also thought I'd take the opportunity to highlight some new features on the site -- they've been there for a little while now, but we haven't drawn attention to them yet.

    Board Updated to 1.3.3
This update really isn't anything too fancy, just a few bug fixes. Previously, we were running 1.3.1; the bug fixes made for version 1.3.2 are...
    And in 1.3.3...
    Organize Pins
Next to your posts, along with your user info and avatar, the three pins you were last awarded appear. The feature has been requested before, and now you can finally decide which pins you would like to show in your posts! To do so, just head over to your profile page, click on the Awarded Pins tab, then the Organize Pins button at the very bottom. You can then move the three pins you'd like to display in your posts to the top of the page!

    Export Conversations
This is a feature that a few may have missed from our vBulletin days -- the ability to back your conversations up to your computer. You can export your conversations to a TXT, HTML, or XML file by selecting the conversation in your inbox (by clicking the checkbox), then selecting Export Conversation...

Please note that very long conversations may throw a server error and are therefore impossible to export. We're looking into a solution for this and will keep you updated. We can't say what number of replies pushes you into dangerous territory, but just give it a try and see if it goes through. Don't worry, you won't break the site. :)

These are just a few of the updates and new features we've got in the pipeline. If you encounter any problems, just let me know, either in this thread (if related to the update) or in the Feedback & Assistance forum. Thanks!

Okay, so since you've done system restores I'm guessing you're familiar with this screen:

Try automatic repair if you haven't already. If that doesn't work there are things you can do through the command line.

It's Tuesday and you know what that means...! Podcast time yaaaay

Following a suggestion from @Plums, who joined us as a staff guest for this episode, we decided to talk about the future of the Final Fantasy series this week! Your regular hosts -- @Misty, @Llave, and @libregkd -- all appear, as well a very special appearance by one of our former moderators, @Clawtooth!

We start off by going through some of the recent Kingdom Hearts news (as expertly reported by our news team), then move onto our topic for the day. We open with discussing Square's many remasters and what we would like to see remastered in the future, then evaluate Final Fantasy XIII's quality and its place in Square's future, discuss some of our hopes for Final Fantasy XV, extol the merits of Final Fantasy XIV, and then provide our future Final Fantasy wishlist.

As always, we answer user-submitted questions from @. : tale_wind and @SPACESHIP. Do note that we're getting low on questions so please send some in!

Enjoy the episode and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

The black screen where you get the cursor, do you mean the Windows mouse or a little blinking underscore? Do you reach the Windows logo screen?

Since this is a consistency / usability suggestion I don't think it's necessary to wait for people to add feedback or anything. Done now though & should be working.

Ah yeah that does complicate things. I think with Twitch there's a way to use the chat with an IRC client but I haven't had luck with that. It does seem like UStream has a streaming program available for Mac if you want to give that a try. Most streaming apps are geared towards gamers though and most gamers run Windows.

OBS is just a program to stream (replaces Procaster). UStream is the site you'd be streaming on (replaces Livestream). I've only ever used OBS for Twitch but I'm sure it would support UStream as well.
