THE PROGRAM​

'Kay so I use Sony Vegas to record now, but I used to use Reaper. This tutorial will be for that. I've been told it's actually a lot more complicated than Audacity, but it's what I know best and I hate Audacity with the vastness of a billion galaxies. ​

You can find Reaper here. It's not free, but the trial won't ever run out so it's kind of free ...except not.​

​

Anyway, I'm using version 4.21. ​

It should look like thiswhen you launch it.​

CHECKING SETTINGS​

First thing is first! You should make sure your input and output are correct. This means...You should make sure the program will be picking up sound from the microphone you want to use, and the sound should come out of the speakers you want to use.​

​

To check this information, go to Options > Preferences. ​

​

This should pop up automatically. As you can see, there are two drop downs. Just double check and make sure that looks okay. Keep how to get here in mind in case you record and it doesn't work right. Adjusting this is most likely how you'll fix it.​

ACTUALLY RECORDING​

This is the part that gets confusing, so pay close attention. The way I do it is probably the more complicated way of doing it, because I know a lot of KHV Chorusers don't actually download the song they're singing. They usually play it on Youtube and sing along with it. My way is more tedious, but will leave you more room to actually fix any mistakes you made without having to start completely over.​

I usually sing with the instrumental because singing with the original singer makes me nervous, but for the sake of the this tutorial, I'll pretend that I do sing with the singer, haha. ​

​

First, add two new tracks to the project. Track > Insert New Track (do it twice for two new tracks).​

​

On one track, you'll be recording. On another track will be the song you're singing. In your case, this is With Me by Sum 41. I don't know you personally, so I'll just say there are various ways to download this MP3. You can buy it from Amazon, or iTunes, or you can use a Youtube to MP3 converter and delete the track when you're done with it. I don't encourage any 'illegal' methods but you know, do what you will if you don't already have it. c;​

To import the MP3, click on track one to make sure you have it selected, and go to Insert > Media file. Find where you saved the song and select it. When it's inserted, your screen should look something like this. (Except your media should have peaks...which is the white line thing, ugh so hard to explain, haha). ​

Now click play. (Bottom left). ​

Make sure you can hear it. Good? Good! If it's not good, head back to Checking Settings. ​

​

If it's all good though, then continue onward! Note: MAKE SURE YOU USE EARPHONES/HEADPHONES WHEN YOU RECORD.​

​

The next step is to arm your recording track for recording. ...This is pretty much just telling your computer to pay attention to your microphone. Click on Track 2, the track that the song IS NOT on. This assures that you will be recording on a new track and not over the music. To arm track two, make sure it's selected and then click the record button on that track. That's the red button on the left.​

​

When you do that, you should notice a response when you talk. The meter should now be another color and responding to your voice. ​

​

Now comes the fairly simple part. All you have to do at this point is sing. Sing your parts and the black lines. Just hit the record button at the bottom after making sure the song starts from the beginning. If you hover over the buttons at the bottom, what they're called will pop up if you get confused. But yeah, hit record. You do NOT have to have the recording window up while you sing, meaning you can pull the lyrics up if you don't know them and sing while you record. ​

​

If you cough or something during a part that's not yours, don't bother with it. I'll fix it for you. You don't have to worry about things like that. All in all, when you're done recording, just hit the stop button at the bottom left corner. If you make a mistake, the nice thing about recording my way with the music right there is that you can just keep singing if you mess up, then you can go back to the part you messed up on and re-record. ​

​

There are a few ways to re-record...First of all, if you want to delete a mess up without deleting everything, simply find the part right before you messed up on and hit 'm' on your keyboard. A marker will appear so you know where the mess up started. Make another marker where your mess up ended. Markers look like this.​

​

After you do that, click the first marker and hit 'S' on your keyboard. Click on the second marker and hit S. There should be a clear difference section cut off. Click that section (the section between the two markers) and delete it. Now only that section is gone but everything else is there. ​

​

I highly suggest that if you sing a part over again you make a new (third) track and record it there after you delete the mess up. This way you don't have to worry about any weird overlap if you don't hit stop soon enough.​

SENDING LINES​

Please send your lines in MP3 format to Chorus@KH-Vids.net.​

Before you save your lines, MUTE or DELETE the song you were singing with. I only want YOUR tracks, not the instrumental or the original, I should only hear your voice. After you delete the instrumental/original track, hit play. You can skip (just click where you want to listen) to where you want to here. Just make sure your voice is the only thing heard.​

​

Now you're ready to render it.​

​

Go to File > Render. ​

​

This thing pops up. Change Output Format to MP3 and choose where you want to save it. Hit Render (1 file...) ​

​

After that all you have to do is send it. It'll save in one long file. I don't want a zip file or for you to split it or something weird, just send it as it is.~​

PICTURE RESOURCES & GUIDELINES

​

I would like you to chose a render image. This means it's completely transparent in the background. Full body (from the head to the shoes/feet) would be preferred and the best. ​

​

You can find some renders here. It's in French but it's not that hard to navigate. The search bar is in the top right corner.​

​

You can also find renders on DeviantArt, BakaRenders and Google Images. There are more sites too, but yes.​

​

Here are some guidelines on what your picture should look like (this is also in the video tutorial above).​

​

• Full body. From the top of the head alllllll the way down to the feet. Yes, yes.
• Standing up. Not crouching, not ... doing something weird. Standing up, please.
• HQ. Aka, high quality. No jagged edges or anything.
• Only one person to represent you.
• No background. Completely transparent (in the back).
• I'd prefer it to match your gender voice type. It's just awkward when someone with a super deep voice has like...a loli, lawl.
• Not cut off at the top or the bottom or sides or anywhere.

TIPS & TRICKS​

// Try not to sing too closely to your microphone. It makes certain words/letters 'puff/pop' which can make your quality sound lame. ​

​

// Similar to that, stay still! If you can help it, no cords should be touching you and you should try not to touch your microphone. Try to find something to prop it up on that'll keep still. We can hear you move and it also messes with the quality of the entire performance. ​

​

// LISTEN TO YOURSELF. When you're done recording, go back and listen to it all of the way through. If you messed up, go back and FIX IT. Put a little effort into it, yeah? If you trip over your words, it's really considerate of you to go back and re-record. If you were moving too much/too many pops and clicks and restlessness, try to go back and re-record. ​

​

//On that note, try not to sing too loudly. When you're peaking, it distorts everything and it's really hard to fix. Step away from the microphone, kids. <3 Reversing that, if you sing quietly, it's 'okay', but try to sing at a normal volume. When you're whispering it's not singing, it's whispering, and you blend in with whatever hiss or buzz your microphone may give off. ​

★ You may have 6 parts all together with one solo. Four to a line. This may change. Also, I'm going to be doing adlibs and harmonies all throughout the song. When I'm done recording, I'll provide a track/reference of it if anyone wants to sing back up with me.

★ Make sure you TIME and SING to the PITCH of the INSTRUMENTAL. I will ask you to redo it, if you're not. There are on-screen lyrics on the video provided, so. Take the time to figure that out, please.

★ If I don't have a rendered picture from you (no background) GET ME ONE.

★ Please take a look at this thread, if you have not already! I'll keep reminding you guys of the basics for another few choruses just to make sure everyone knows.~

MP3s only, no ZIP files, ONE file timed to the instrumental/original song! A few of you sent me one file, but it wasn't timed to the music, you did your lines back to back. That is a no-no! When you send your lines, they should be spaced out in time to the music, not just one file with your lines after one another.

★ I missed you guys. DID YOU MISS ME?

★ Now the way this works is that I'll have this thread closed until the singers are revealed and reply to my invitation. No one claim lines except for the ones who receive the invitation. This song was chosen randomly, as will the four singers be. You'll not know who you're singing with until I get a reply from everyone.

★ The deadline is shorter than a week and always will be unless the song is really long or in another language. There are only four people singing as opposed to 13+ so we really don't need more than a couple of days. That being said, there is no drop-out grace period. If you reply to my invitation and say that you can do it, I'll be expecting your lines unless there is a emergency.

★ If you KNOW you're going to be too busy to record in the next couple of days, then please reply to the invitation letting me know you'll be busy and can't participate. If I don't get a response from you in 24 hours or less from the time I send you the invitation, I'll be generating a new number to take your place.

★Keep in mind that there is a difference between busy and not knowing the song well/not liking the song. If you're going to be fickle depending on the song choice then this project may not be for you. The potential challenge/unfamiliarity is part of the event/game. Try to stick with it. I will always try my absolute best to be respectful towards you and the things you absolutely cannot do. I will re-draw if your name comes up and you've stated you're uncomfortable with the type of song.

★ I also promise on everything I love that I will not be tampering with any of the randomization of it all. I will hit generate, and that is that UNLESS two of the same numbers come up or the song that's chosen doesn't have a find-able instrumental.

Garden of Eve: The 9th Rose​

"Ah, I see you've decided to visit the gallery. Is this your first time? Well, welcome! There are many unique paintings and sculptures for you to enjoy. Is there anything in particular you're looking for? Perhaps our guides, Krowley and AnnaLynne can help you?"


The female waves and smiles after being addressed. She looks young. The male however, just stares blankly. Upon meeting eye contact, he seems to glare at you. The greeter notices.


"Ehem, don't mind Krowley, he's just a bit...grumpy. Please do not be afraid to ask for help. There are many levels of the gallery, and we wouldn't want anyone to get lost, would we?"


He chuckles nervously. You begin to wonder how many visitors this gallery actually gets. You peek past the short man before you as he continues to ramble on about the artwork and how wonderful everything is. There are actually quite a bit of people here, including the group you're in now. You've never been to this gallery before, but the staff seem friendly enough (excluding Krowley). Maybe you'll find something interesting?


"Now, without further ado, please enjoy your stay. Feel free to wander about the gallery. Good luck!"

Welcome to the gallery, a magical and horrific place with all sorts of puzzles and secrets awaiting you. While the gallery may seem normal and functional on the surface, it won't take long from your arrival before things get a little ... creepy. While browsing the gallery you may experience dizziness, headaches, nausea, isolation, terror, spontaneous disappearance, death and monsters.


Sounds fun.


Let me give you the run-down.


There eight slots--six excluding Jayn and Krowley. Each slot is represented by a rose and a color. Each color represents a character's personality. Your rose also represents your life. If you lose all of the petals of your rose, you're dead.


There are eight levels of the gallery. You can think of this as a game, if you'd like, in which case there are eight levels of the game. Each level has a different color and challenge theme. Each level also has a secret that will lead you closer to escaping.


All six of you are needed if you'd like to escape the gallery. No man left behind. Meaning that each level needs to be solved before moving onto the next one, and all secrets need to be remembered on the final level in order to leave and finish the RP, and if someone dies, you're all kind of screwed and need to find a way to revive the dead. There will be one secret revealed to you in each level, and that secret will be specific to the color of the level.


For example, Jayn's color is 'White', personality trait being 'innocence'. The first level is 'innocence', therefore the secret found would be specifically for her. These 'secrets' are designed to help you remember something you've forgotten ... Something you'll desperately need in the end. Try to remember what you're told. Secrets have a way of disappearing, you know...


As for the puzzles, if floor one is 'innocence', (you can find this information below) then the innocence level is jigsaw, meaning that level one's puzzles will revolve around jigsaw puzzles.


Krowley and Jayn are the Game Masters as well as your guides. They will help you through the challenges and puzzles. They will also give you hints, if needed.


The role play is a bit of a hybrid between an actual role play and a game. The style of role playing/writing will be normal, but you are to use commands to do things. There is an example below under 'commands'. If you're confused, ask. We'll explain it. Krowley and Jayn's style of role playing will probably shift a lot. We're more like you're Navi than actual participants. A good example of the 'text-based- style can be found here.


The goal of the RP is to escape the gallery. The puzzles or challenges will all result in a key that will allow you to move forward and to the next level. You must find the key to move on. The last level will result in your key back to reality.

Painters: All that's known about them is that they have acidic paint. There is no current information on how to destroy them. First encountered on Floor One.

This blue vase restores all of your life, but cannot revive the deceased.​

​

This yellow vase replenishes all health, and revives the deceased.​

​

This red vase increases your maximum healthy by one! These are extremely rare and can only be used once. If you come across one, you'll have to decide which one of you uses it.​

​

These 'functions' can be used to help you through the gallery. You can role play normally with these functions, I only ask that you change the color of the function. For example;

What commands you use affect your entire party, as you all share the same Inventory and such, so be careful and consider talking out your decisions before making them.

Search Room ⇨ By using the search function, you can search the room for any clues or items. You can also search for specific things.

Examine (item) ⇨ By examining an object, you can see anything that may be hidden.

Take (item) ⇨ You can attempt to take an item into your inventory with this function.

Give (item) ⇨ You can attempt to give an item to a person or object with this function.

Drop (item) ⇨ You can drop an item with this command. Dropping an item removes it from your inventory and is left wherever you drop it. In some cases, you can retrieve it again. In other's, it's lost forever.

View Inventory ⇨ You can use this to check your inventory and see what is in your possession.

Talk To (item/character) ⇨ With this command, you can speak to something (or someone). You only have to use it as a command if it's an NPC (aka; non-playable character.)

Hint ⇨ You may use this function when you are stuck on a puzzle, or need an objective reminder.

1) Your Rose is your life span. For every error and wrong choice you make, a petal falls. Once all petal have fallen, your life has ended.

2) Pay close attention to the rules on each floor, as they may be the difference between surival and damnation.

3) Certain situations may not always work. Do not play a scenario without seeing the properties of the objects. Example: Do not shoot a window until you know if the glass is bulletproof or not.

4) Vases will be found around this crazy world. For every 100ml of water in a vase, 1 petal is recovered. You may not choose how much you wish to recover as it is automatically set to recover completely.

5) When you sign up, please don't format your posts, excluding how the codes are already formatted. No posts templates or anything fancy (just for the sign up), please just fill out the form. Makes it easier to add! Appearances should be text descriptions or links to a photo. No image tags, please.

6) Your character's personality should reflect the color of your rose.

7) Please try to use decent spelling and grammar.

8) Please be specific when you are using commands. Along with this, no godmodding, please. Not everything will work the first time.

9) Stay active. Jayn will hunt you down if you don't (Krowley won't stop her). If you join, you're agreeing to be committed and stay in the RP unless there's an emergency. Take a good look at your schedule and make sure you're going to be able to actively post and respond. This RP does not require long posts (considering some posts will really only have to be a command). It requires dedication and response.

Bio: Vanitee was born and raised an only child, and as such, she is spoiled rotten. This factor itself is the main cause for her bratty personality. Not only that, but her Father, whom she lives with, has the habit of calling her 'princess' and tends to treat as such, going out of his way to fulfil his only daughter's every wish.

Bio: Up until both of her parents died, Sophia was raised in a loving home, but it all changed when somehow, her mother and father accidentally drove off a bridge. Sophia was then forced to live with her aunt, who wasn't a bad woman, but not too long after, she died of a disease. After that, it seemed that none of her other family members wanted her, even though the deaths were nearly completely unrelated. She now lives alone, in the small but comfortable house that her parents left her, almost concealed from the world.

If you get through that, he is genuinely caring. He can be rude, rarely on purpose, almost becoming insensitive due to his strange thought patterns. He is really empathetic, but his lack of experience makes him seem strange and off-putting.
Bio:He has no friends at all, but he tries constantly to meet people. He lived in a big city and stayed in his apartment for a full year after a breakup, and lost many basic social skills. He doesn't care what people think of him and is badly unhygienic. He has bad hearing and yells almost everything, which is rather disturbing to strangers.
