I would assess the harm caused by religion and a religious mentality and then conclude with whether humans would be better off with or without it. The answer is always in the proof and reasoning, not in the claims made.

It's okay. That's what I usually do with paragraphs in essays I write as well. I also repeat stuff and put in fillers, and I still get a decent grade. XD

It's okay, I'll answer. The answer is a bit of both. I have been raised Christian and followed the beliefs of my parents, that was until I started college. I wanted to be more of a free thinker, so I looked at other beliefs and really looked at what it meant to believe in God. My way of looking at God is very different than my parents. I do believe in the Christian God from the Bible, but I do not put myself in any category (i.e. Catholic, Protestant, etc.). I believe in God because it just feels right for me, and I feel like I am being watched on by Him.

I wouldn't say I'm religious. I believe in God and know a bit of the Bible, so I can help you with some stuff. But a lot of my view points aren't... "standard Christian beliefs". I'm willing to help though.

It has been the driving force behind all wars. The greatest atrocities in the world have been committed in the names of gods. Where it has not led someone to commit an atrocity, it has led them to justify it. Religion releases one from the responsibility of personal conviction and greatly increases self-righteousness. That is why most people who join a military are theists, and why most racists, sexists and homophobic people are also theists. If you need any more evidence, consider that the holocaust was done by religious zealots and that it was religious language that caused the German people to vote Hitler into power, that Africa was colonized and oppressed and that the Native Americans were killed off and oppressed in the name divine providence given by the Christian God.

The entire history of Europe and the Middle East can be summarized by religious crusades, battles with the crown for a theocracy, and an extreme hindrance in scientific advancement. People were to be burned at the stake for declaring that the earth revolved around the sun. That is a fault of religion and people falling prey to the trap of borrowed morality.

But you should take your own spin on it for a paper, I would not happy if you stole what I said without thinking because I want you to think for yourself just as much as I do.

the topic and your opinion about it. thats the thesis and then write your reasons aka topic sentences. those are what makes the other paragraphs.
