I don't like when they drag on for too long. :c Godchild, one of my favorites, was only eight volumes. I think that's the perfect length, haha.

In the past I've enjoyed Death Note, One Piece (1-15), Vampire Knight (1-4), High School Debut (1-6), and a few others. I'm not really a big manga fan, more of a casual reader. I have been considering giving Fruit's Basket a go though, maybe I'll check it out. ;o

I like really girly mangas. Awfully fluffy things that end with happily ever afters.

So... yeah. xD Don't think Bleach is for me.

Oh, I agree. D: But I've gotten really cheap lately. I'm so reluctant to buy anything, even $10 books.

And meh, never been into Bleach.

It seems as though a good deal of the difference between the way we think is in interpretation. I'd interpret your decision to ring a friend as a mere spontaneous action, or the idea of being a teacher holding greater allure than that of being a doctor or a politician, while you interpret it as God's will.

I can care about friends, but I'm talking about getting to the point where the mindset is putting others before yourself. It doesn't end up helping others, and instead it just puts you in danger. Sharing another's pain is different to taking everyone's pain upon yourself. The former is healthy, while the latter will lead to self-destruction. That's a downside to the mentality some Christians have been raised with.

I mean, I view helping someone because it gives you satisfaction to be a selfish act. After all, you're doing it because you get satisfaction from helping them. So I consider the second youth to be just as selfish as the first, because he wants to see his friends get into heaven, and he enjoys spreading the word of Jesus.

I will help others, but there's always a selfish aspect to it. Either I get satisfaction from helping them, or I enjoy talking to them, or I simply prefer it when they're happy. It's always relative to me though.

I've gotten far too cheap to buy manga anymore, unfortunately. :c I read it online mostly, or read what I already have.

The thing is, they're not extremists or anything similar. They've just been brought up to put others before themselves, and it only ends up hurting them. See herehttp://www.kh-vids.net/showthread.php?104195-Doesn-t-matter-who-I-am-I-want-to-be-done and here. They didn't make a conscious decision to suffer pain in the name of God, like the African missionary; they're just trying to live their own lives, and being selfless is hurting them. The missionary knew the consequences of his actions and chose to do it anyway; they didn't have the same choice.

So you know when something is for God by the emotions you feel from doing the task. I also get feelings of satisfaction after helping someone, be it opening up a door, or explaining something, but I don't attribute those feelings to God.

My world-view is that every action taken by anyone is selfish, and done to benefit themselves, be it directly, indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally. I'm curious as to whether religion itself makes you happier, or whether it's the actions you're encouraged to take that do it.
