Exactly my point. He's never smelled Kingdom Hearts™ Brand Darkness, so he could mistake it for a demon. He would then go see what's going on, and attempt to eliminate the source of the stench.

Ah, I see. Dante can "smell" demons, right? Maybe he could smell the overflowing darkness from the castle and mistake it for a kind of demon. Or something.
