Yeah I love the scary levels too but this hand has scary music to go with it and it spikes every time it gets too close to the Sol. You can't even kill it, that's what scares me. But I've played through it enough to laugh whenever it gets a close call.

I used to have the saying "go humans go" in my signature, from the Quaker oatmeal commercials. :]

But it's not too difficult. I usually start with a 500 x 1500 canvas, but you can change it depending on your needs. I usually choose 500 because my sigs are usually 400 in width, and 1500 just because I don't know how much height I'll need. I usually make it bigger as I go along.

After that I decide on a color scheme, usually three colors -- one for the background, one for the titles, and one for the text. Fill your canvas with the background color.

Next I turn on my rulers (Ctrl+R in Photoshop) and then go to View -> New Guide... in Photoshop. This part takes a little math.
500 px is the width of my tut - 400 px for the signature = 100 px. I want to have all the sigs line up, so I set up guides. I divide 100 px by 2 to get 50 px, so I make two vertical guides: one at 50 px, the second at 450 px. It looks like this. Then just make sure it's set to snap to your guides (Shift+Ctrl+; )

Then I begin adding my text and what not, making it line up with the guides.

If you ever run out of height on the tutorial, you can make the canvas bigger. Set the background color of the canvas to your Background Color (you can just use the eyedropper or whatever), and select your background layer. Go to Image -> Canvas Size, and do this: http://i56.tinypic.com/dnlkbs.png
You can change the 4500 depending on how much you need.
