Tetsuya Nomura Talks KH3 Gummi Ship w/ Game Informer

Speaking a bit with Game Informer after the huge KH3 reveal today at D23, 'Kingdom Hearts' series director, Tetsuya Nomura, confirmed that the Gummi Ship will return, stating:

Tetsuya Nomura Interviewed by IGN; Mentions Second Playable Character and Possible Switch Version

The Kingdom Hearts news just keeps coming today! Following Nomura's appearance at D23, the series creator of Kingdom Hearts was interviewed by IGN where he mentioned some interesting information about the game.

First things first, Nomura mentions that there will be another character playable in Kingdom Hearts III, although he does not reveal who this character is. He also mentions that D-Links (introduced in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep) will not be present in KH3, citing that D-Link had been created only because it had not been possible at the time to have more than five party members:

Nomura also states (in a second article by IGN) while a Switch port of the game is possible, but the current focus for Squre Enix are the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 ports of the game. That being said, a Switch version isn't out of the question; neither is a Kingdom Hearts 1.5 +2.5 ReMIX for the Xbox One should the demand come from both Western and Eastern audiences. For right now, Nomura wants to keep all the focus on Kingdom Hearts III, and if you ask me, that's a wonderful idea.

On a possible 2.9:

Of course [the 2.9: The First Volume] narrative does connect to Kingdom Hearts III, but I understand that there were some speculations about, like, is there going to be another 2.9 that's going to come out? But rest assured, it is already – that bridge, that link is already bridged, so we are now leading up towards Kingdom Hearts III.

On Maleficent/Organization XIII:

Whenever [Maleficent and Pete] go to different worlds, they may interact with some of the villains, Disney villains that exist in that world, but they are their own thing, with Maleficent leading the way. They have no sort of cooperation [with Organization XIII], nor are they conflicting or enemies against those people. Sora is battling the 13 Darkness, but Maleficent and Pete are kind of separate from that...So she doesn't necessarily actively poke at Sora or try to bother him.

On Roxas's Return:

That brings to Sora's attention, if a Heartless and Nobody can exist at the same time, can Sora and Roxas exist at the same time, too? And to do that, Xemnas is asking Sora, do you intend on utilizing the power of darkness? So that's the kind of narrative that we wanted to talk about in that section [of the game].

[NOTE: Nomura mentions that the scene with Xemnas in the Orchestra trailer is “actually a bit longer”]

On Kairi:

With the help of Merlin, she's now in the sort of environment where there's no limitation of time. So she can train, and focus on training, to become a Keyblade wielder. And so, in Kingdom Hearts III itself, also, it will be touched upon that those two are currently training.

On Attraction Flow:

When we first showed it in our earlier days, in our trailers, it was very flashy. [I feel] we've sort of pushed it a little too much, or we've shown it so many times. So we haven't shown additional information beyond that.

[NOTE: Nomura also confirms that summons will return, and that Attraction Flow isn't meant to replace them]

On Focusing New Worlds:

With Kingdom Hearts III, there was deliberate intent to kind of focus on the more newer titles. And then in terms of previous titles, we tried to balance it so that we have a good mix of some of the older IPs as well as some of the new worlds as well. But, yeah, with Kingdom Hearts III, there was a shift in that sort of thinking so we can focus on some of the newer titles.

[NOTE: Nomura also mentioned the process in choosing worlds, trying to see whether fans would enjoy it, and are extra careful to not include worlds that are too similar (much like how the decision was made to abandon a Jungle Book world in KH1 in favor of Deep Jungle).]

On the Evolution of KH3D's Flowmotion to Attraction Flow:

With the previous Flowmotion... it seemed a little too free. And we did receive feedback from the consumers that it was – they didn't know what to do with it, and it was kind of hard to control on their end. So we tried to refine it and it's evolved into now what we call Athletic Flow.

On the Toy Story world's main setting:

That toy store is going to be sort of a very central focus of that arc of Kingdom Hearts III, and it's in that section you see those robots being sold on the shelves.

While the excitement over the Toy Story world reveal and new trailer/2018 release date still in the air, Square-Enix's Japanese e-Store has revealed bags and mugs based on the Bond, Air, and Coming artwork from 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue' coming in September. Check them out below:

The mugs (which can be checked out here) will cost 1620 yen, while the bags (which can be checked out here) will cost 1922 yen.

Lost amidst the reveal of a Toy Story world and a new KH3 trailer (with a 2018 confirmed release date!) was the announcement by Square-Enix NA's online store of a new Bring Arts figure based on KH3 Sora's Guardian form!
