The date is October 30th. Those who were capable have left the city of Hanuel exactly 24 hours ago to search for more food, mainly materials to feed our livestock and improve crops. The only ones who remain in the city are the children, elderly, and sick. All that can be said is our prayers are with our parents who are risking their lives for all of us. We hope they can come back soon.

The game we play is survival. The best way to survive is to act as a unit. As long as we are united, we should be able to live on through these days of fear. Each person has a role in this society: the elderly have top authority. Teens between the ages of 16 and 18 are the main defense group as well maintaining food and water supplies. Teens between the ages of 13 and 15 are to take care of the younger children. If a child becomes far out of control, it is the responsibility of the caretaker to report to one of the higher age. In this world, we must work together and not be hostile.

Our defense system is set up in two phases: the walls and the bunker. The walls are thick and made of cement containing only one entrance. This entrance has 3 sets of steel plated doors with a steel bar placeholder. It takes a lot of effort to open just one door, but at least it prevents the zombies from coming in the city. The bunker is a well armored building with limited supplies that can only fit around a hundred people. It is a last resort.

    30 October 17 Z.D. -- Hikari Nakimora.

She pushed the enter key on the type writer allowing it to chime, giving it the okay to tear and place within the journal Romero had provided. Kari was given the task to write down the daily events that occurred. The day had just started and the assumption was that nothing would happen. That was her wish at least. She tore the sheet of paper and placed it within the records.

Leaving the post office, the mailing system used before the attack, she began to head over to the living quarter. The city lost a lot of land because of the limited time to build. The land they did manage to spare was divided into districts: The living quarter, the place with homes to stay in and have privacy; the farming district, an obvious title for obvious reasons; the market area, it was the place to trade goods to one another and the place Kari had been working currently; the last is the restricted zone, a place where the bunker and capital building are, a place not meant for them unless in emergency.

Hikari was the kind of person who admired plants. She grew them in her home alongside herbs. Within the Market Area, she traded some herbs to a kind old woman in exchange for some loaves of bread. That was her lunch and dinner for the day. Breakfast had almost been cut out her schedule entirely. Some extra were picked up for a few others within her neighborhood. Most would require a trade, but Kari chose to give it for free.

She stopped by at the home of a boy named Chen Yu, one of the survivors from South Korea. She placed her knuckle against the door and began to knock.
"Chen, its Kari. I brought some bread for you." She yelled out to him. She hadn't been able to speak to many of the other people around. The most she knew was some names. That was about it. Her parents didn't trust people very much and because of that, she wasn't aloud to socialize much.

Chen was sitting cross - legged on the floor, sharpening his hunting knife. With the adults gone for two weeks, he needed to step up. Part of that involved being prepared for anything and everything that might happen. Just because they were safely tucked away in the compound of a city that was built to protect, didn't mean that they still lived at risk every day of their lives. Shink, shink, shink -- his blade sounded against the sharpener. Long black bangs fell in his face and he blew them out of the way. It was about time for a haircut, but he quite liked them long. The downside, it was just one more thing for a zombie to grab hold of and use it against him.

He ran the blade against the thigh of his jeans, wiping it off. It was a large hunting knife with a dark steel blade. Chen took pride in it. The knife was his favorite short - range weapon. He was getting quite good at close combat. The South Korean teen was intently focused on the knife when the knocking sounded at the door. It was followed by the female voice of a Japanese refugee named Hikari. Chen, its Kari. I brought some bread for you.

Chen set the blade down on his bed and pulled himself to his feet. He brushed his hands off on his pants and made his way to the door. His long slender fingers wrapped around the knob and he opened it inward. Hikari stood across the threshold and he smiled down at her, his bright blue eyes shining in the light. Kali annyeonghaseyo -- hello. He made room to let her pass and took a seat on one of the chairs, graciously accepting a chunk of bread from the girl. What brings you? It must be more than just bread. As nice as the gesture was, he found it hard to believe she made her way all the way here just to share her bread.

Knuckles bled as punch after punch landed on the stuffed dummy Luc-Vincent had constructed for himself to practice on. In the world he lived in, Melee and Martial Arts were not practical; they were a weapon only effective against the living, and attempting to cuff a member of the living dead was begging for a bite. He did not punch for the experience of hitting his fists against something, but instead it was for Stamina and to keep his torso well-muscled; two factors that were key survival techniques to practice, at least within the confines of his own head. How long had it been since he'd uttered a single syllable? The number of landed punches in a minute was more than how many words had escaped his lips in the past month alone. In the Living District, he was toying mentally with how much anyone living there actually was "living". Nobody. Everybody there was as much dead as any of the crawlers wandering the forgotten world as starving bodies that were vacated by the souls that they had once housed. A French youth, Luc-Vincent was found and lost all at once in the city he called his new home. One, two, one, two, Luc-Vincent practiced in his self-made hermitage. Of course, the elder expected him to do his part; so little of humanity was left that even the alienated were wanted. 'How pathetic that I become to useful now, huh?' He internalized his feeling of loathing toward what remained of his people. There were no more of his people. Parisians were the French, if that city even still stood. That was the truly terrifying thing Luc-Vincent feared about zombies: they never stopped being hungry. Creatures alive or dead will do some crazy things to get what they want when they're hungry, and zombies, with their constant hunt for human flesh, were obviously no exception.

Speaking of hunger, working up such a sweat had worked up as equal a hunger. Luckily, he personally had no desire for living flesh, so there was a chance he could be accepted in the Market District. He wasn't a zombie, but his brooding and dark nature was enough to set people on high alert; fortunately, anyone who was not a zombie and was willing to prolong the human race's existence was at least tolerated, even if they were pariah within the walls. 'Well, not going to get rid of this unless I just go.' Luc-Vincent did not like to talk, and commerce demanded communication of some kind; he'd have to talk to get his next meal, but, lucky for him, anyone selling something usually just needed to hear one word. He let the one word out softly to himself as he picked up his Glock 17 from his desk and hid it in the holster under his shabby, brown leather jacket. "Price." He shut the door without locking it; what was there to steal, and who would even steal it? There were some perks to the fear of the public and the fear that came with being mysterious.

Faces in the dwindling population were at least familiar. How much did it mean to know some of the last remaining people? How much were those people even worth compared to those who were gone? He didn't leave himself out of the question; he didn't know why he still was oxidizing and doing the whole "living" deal after seeing what he'd seen. Luc-Vincent had had his fair share of near-death experiences. Maybe that was the worth: he could shoot well; better than well, because he was still liked by some even though he didn't like them and they never spoke. Luc-Vincent lived because of fast escape vehicles and even faster reflexes when it came down to him or a zombie between a trigger and a barrel. He lived because he was blessed with marksmanship, but he died too everyday because he was cursed with silence. He walked the street of the Living District cool and collected; he'd probably walk alone, which didn't bother him in the slightest; he treasured his loneliness unbroken.

Thomas sat alone in his house reading an old tattered book he brought with him from his home when he escaped. The book wasn't really geared towards teenage boys, but the description of the place it took place brought comfort and memories. The setting for the book took place in a small white house with green gables in Newfoundland, Canada. The same Provence he was from before he was forced to flee. Thomas took great care of the book but you wouldn't be able to tell if you just looked at it. The pages where torn and the cover was worn to the point you could almost not make out the title, but for the age of the book he was lucky the pages where not just outright falling out of it.

After a while of reading Thomas's stomach began to growl. There was no food around his dwelling so it seemed like he had to find something to try to trade for food. As he looked around the small amount of stuff he had he found a couple of shirts that his mother had sewed him before she left but it turned out they didn't fit. Perhaps they would trade for at least something small. Maybe to someone who had or was looking after a child. Thomas smiled as he picked up the shirts and a thought came to mind. Perhaps at the market there would be a few cute girls. He enjoyed looking at cute girls almost as much as he enjoyed reading.

Thomas ran out the door at full speed and headed straight for the market place with his shirts in hand. When he got to the market he slowed down and started to scan the area for both girls and someone to trade with. His stomach growled once again. Food was a definite first on his list this time. He spotted both things he wanted in one place. A young girl was trading for bread. Perhaps he could kill two birds with one stone. But by the time Thomas reached the lady with the bread the girl was already walking away. He made a quick trade then followed after her. It seemed the girl was heading to another boys house though. Disappointed Thomas turned around and started walking the streets of the living district back to his house. On the way he approached a young man walking quietly along the streets.
"Hey buddy! Seen any cute girls today." Thomas said as he rested his arm on the boys shoulder. Thomas didn't really know the boy, in fact he looked almost scary but he had leaped into it without thinking and there was no way out without looking like a coward so he figured he would just continue on like it was normal unless the other boy said something. "Bread?" He offered a piece.

Elsa was on her way back from the farming district. She had a small bag slung across her shoulder which contained a needle and thread, some bandages, and various other first aid supplies. And another bag in her hand, with a couple of fruits and vegetables. The young girl traveled out to the farming district before heading back to her house everyday. She was one of the few refugees who had medical knowledge. And the ones who were farming tended to have accidents, so she offered to treat them in return for food. It also saved her an unnecessary trip to the market which was always crowded. Elsa wasn't a big fan of crowds and was always nervous when someone would attempt to carry on a conversation with her. The confrontation would usually end because she would freeze and not respond back. But that didn't mean she didn't like to be around others. She was fine with company as long as there weren't to many people, but she would still feel uncomfortable talking to them.

It was strange though because whenever she was treating someone her shy and socially awkward nature seemed to melt away. She wasn't worried about anything else except helping her patient since that was what mattered most. The more people she saved the better. After all their population number on this planet wasn't as high as it use to be. Well, at least the human population wasn't. But there were plenty of zombies.

As she made her way into the living quarter she spotted two guys roughly around her age. Elsa tried not to look at them as she app them. oping this would halt any conversations involving her that had a chance of happening. But then she recognized one of them. Not that she new him, he just seemed familiar. she the remember that he was the person that made everyone uncomfortable. Which wasn't surprising to Elsa since she was kind of scared of
him too. But he wasn't quite as intimidating when he was with this other boy, who she heard was offering him bread. That wasn't something you would see everyday

It was true that Kari had more than just one reason for visiting him. They were in a predicament now that the adults had gone. No one had given her or many of the others a chance to work in this kind of occurrence. "Its obvious things around here are going to get really difficult." She said looking around his house, being a bit too curious. "I know you are well rounded and was wondering if you'd consider being our leader until everyone returns."

The request might have been a bit soon and a bit much, but from the little she knew about him, it was that he was a well made leader. That's what people needed. The elders still had the top say, but they weren't always sane to make decisions. She hoped Chen would take up the request.

Lilith sat on the top of the roof of the small house, simply enjoying the smell of zombies that flowed through the air. It was the smell of the living dead, and while it would probably disgust most, Lilith loved it, for it meant that there were probably zombies nearby, and that meant that there was a chance she would get to kill the zombies again. "I love the smell of the dead in the evening" she said simply. She cocked her head to the side a little at that thought. Was it killing them, or was it re-killing them? There was no way to tell. Lilith's stomach rumbled slightly surprisingly, she was hungry.

Glancing around quickly, her eyes came to rest on the boy, Thomas, or more specifically the bread he was holding. The gothic girl licked her lips as she hopped off the building, landing on her feet nimbly and gracefully. Within a few seconds she had began walking towards Thomas, trying to look as casual as she possibly could. She walked over to him, hoping the other boy with her didn't tell Thomas that she was there, and without a word she snatched the food out of his hand and began biting into it without a word of thanks.

[/url]Chen nibbled at the bread and watched as Kari seemed to muster up the courage to say whatever it was she needed to say. It must have been important because people usually weren't this timid around him. Its obvious things around here are going to get really difficult. She finally got out. Her eyes seemed to wander the room in curiosity and he glanced up at the ceiling, swallowing the bread.

That they are, he commented lightly. Things would be different and they might have an entire change in the ways things are run if the adults don't come back.
I know you are well rounded and was wondering if you'd consider being our leader until everyone returns.

He cocked a brow and looked to Kari, studying her intently. She was serious. This wasn't really her decision to make. Chen was flattered, really, but he couldn't just take up a role as leader without some sort of group vote. Sure, he did what he could to help out, but leader? He smiled at her and shook his head. I don't know about that Kari. That's not something I can just do. It has to be a decision made by the masses. It wouldn't be right of me to just stake claim while the others are gone. Maybe if they didn't come back -- we can't assume they won't. He pressed his lips together and sighed, laying back on the bed. I have a bad feeling about all of this, he added.

Thomas was still leaning on Luc-Vincent with no response from him when a girl walked up from behind them snatching his bread and eating it. "Hey! Hey! Hey..." Thomas's voice trailed off as he looked at the thief. "Hey babe." Thomas's tone quickly changed as did his stance. He put his hands in is front pocket. He leaned back slouching slightly trying to look as cool as he could. "You know, my bread isn't the only thing that you just stole. I think you got my heart there too." He tried so desperately to be smooth. But in the middle of his sad attempt for flirting his stomach started to growl again. "Perhaps we could head back to my place and share that. What do you think? Just you and me?" He didn't want to seem desperate for his bread back, and of course he was willing to share with a cute girl, but he was hungry.

During the time Thomas was attempting to flirt something else caught the corner of Thomas's eye. Well not something but more then someone.
"Wow it must be my lucky day, not just one but two angels have fallen upon me!" He exclaimed in excitement before trying to go back to his cool act. While he tried to think what to say to fix what he had just said out loud Thomas's eyes kept shifting back and forth between the two girls deciding which one he wanted to pursue. He knew he couldn't get both of them, but perhaps one. They where both good looking in their own way, though in his opinion Elsa was more attractive, but on the other hand the other girl had his bread. If he wanted it back he better go for her. But on the other hand the second girl hand a bag of something that could be food she might share. Making this decision was one of the hardest things he had to do in a while.

"Why don't both of you come back to my house and perhaps we can have some fun..." Thomas said nervously. "I mean like play a game or something, lighten the mood in these hard times ya-know?" He explained trying to once again cover his tracks. He only prayed this would work and that he would get food out of it. He was starving and had little for skills he could use to get things to trade for food. All he was good at was flirting, at least in his own mind.

OOC. Changed colour from the last part since someone told me they had a hard time reading it. Hope this works better.

Elsa was taken aback when she saw a girl, her name was Lilly or something, hop off the top of a building and land uninjured on the ground. Who would be crazy enough to jump off a building? The strange girl the proceeded to snatch the bread from Thomas, if she remember his name correctly. worried that the girl might try to steal her food next, Elsa tried to cover the bag so no one could see inside. She felt better when she her Thomas trying to flirt with the girl. Now they wouldn't pay any attention to her.

"Wow it must be my lucky day, not just one but two angels have fallen upon me!" She had stopped walking altogether and turned to look at Thomas after hearing what he had just said. Elsa thought the other girl had fully grabbed his attention, but that obviously wasn't the case now. She saw his eyes darting between her and the other girl as if he wasn't sure which to choose. Which made her feel uncomfortable. Even more so with what he had said next about them going back to his house. She didn't really like him all that much so far, but the crazy girl who jumped off the building had stole his bread and she kind of felt bad for him . The blonde glanced at Thomas and then back at her own bag. Contemplating whether she should give him some of her food or let him try to get his bread back.

Lilith snickered a little as Thomas made his attempt at flirting, and then couldn't help but smirk a little as he suggested going back to his place. While the idea of doing 'something fun' might appeal to most, and Lilith was no exception, there was still the zombies outside the wall, which in her mind the idea of killing them seemed much more appealing. She slinked over to Thomas and stood next to him for a moment, before running her hand up his chest for a brief moment seductively, and then simply flicked him quite hard on the nose. "Not tonight, lover boy. Zombies won't just kill themselves!" the girl exclaimed excitedly.

With a light spin on the balls of her feet, Lilith turned and looked once more at the wall. It was a high wall, it had to be if it were going to keep out the zombies. Although, even the strongest walls had to fall sometime didn't they? She skipped a couple of steps, before stopping and looking over her shoulder at Thomas once again. Had the boy asked her to go back to his place for some fun, or was there more to it? Lilith then did something that she wouldn't normally do; she threw the half-eaten bread to Thomas. While it was half-eaten, and many germaphobes would be absolutely offended at the gesture, in the times they were in any food was better than no food. The girl then turned her attention back to the wall. She was going to climb to the top of the wall, and she was going to watch overnight in the hopes the zombies would find some way to get to the top of it, even if it took her all night just to get to the top of it.

Thomas was slightly disappointed at the girls reactions. He was almost offended by Liliths, but not enough to throw him off his game. As she turned to leave once she made her last comment Thomas turned to Luc-Vincent. "That was hot...." He immediately shut up when she turned back to pass him his half eaten bread. "Whoa, whoa, whoa.... aww man." Thomas said as he dropped the bread. He quickly scooped it back up and shrugged. "Five second rule." He took a bite and started walking back home. "Call me babe." He said to Elsa before getting out of sight.

When he got to his house he shut and locked the door behind. He plopped down on the couch. "Why am I such a failier at picking up girls?" He sighed and put his hands behind his head.
"I'm cute right? My mom says I'm cute." He rolled over on the couch. "Whatever there is always tomorrow." He said trying to lift his spirit a bit. Someday he would find a girl he knew it. His witty charm would work on someone... someday... maybe. Eventually he drifted off to sleep on his couch.

Elsa saw the girl toss the half eaten bread to Thomas, who then proceeded to drop and reclaim it using the five second rule. She noticed it was getting late not realizing how long they've been there. She would have been home by now if she hadn't been distracted. Elsa could heard Thomas say something, but she couldn't make out what it was as he walked away. The young girl shrugged it off and headed home.

As she locked the door behind her she tossed her bags onto a small, poorly crafted wooden chair. She had discovered a while ago that wooding making was not one of her talents, and quickly gave up on it. Elsa entered her room and collapsed on her bed.
"Finally, I can sleep." She sighed, not knowing how tired she had been. And knowing that tomorrow was going to be just like today and every other day she had here, Elsa effortlessly drifted off to sleep.

Intolerable. Absolutely intolerable. Not only did that boy practically hang on his shoulder, but he also made that embarrassing display of himself. Luc-Vincent could not empathize; such an ability had died in him ages ago. Still, the theft then rejection from the thief was enough to make Luc-Vincent even consider the boy pathetic. He shook it out of his mental space and continued with his day. He made his purchases and left back for home. Dinner was always the same, even if the meal changed slightly ever so often. He lived alone; he dined alone. That was his empty and lonely life. He loved it that way. He survived, and there was no one to tie him down save for the occasional "babysitting" job he had to perform every now and again during hunts and guarding. Luc-Vincent cleaned his firearms for evening, and simply meditated; surrounded by his tools of destruction, then he could think clearly.

He meditated for well over two hours, while locked in a zen state. When he opened his eyes to find it was night, he simply finished off the rest of the soup he had made from the ingredients he had purchased. Breathing in the scent of it, he was reminded of the Marketplace and the two he had seen there; he didn't like giving them another thought. He could only hope that he would not see them in his dreams; actually, it would be better if he did not dream at all, because he could not recall the last time one had been pleasant. He fell into his bed (Everything he owned fell into the category of "High-End Merchandise in disrepair", and the stained and disheveled King-sized matress was not exception) which was at least permissably comfortable, but when he tried to close his eyes: there they were again.

"Stupid idiot..." Luc-Vincent grumbled to himself, his voice raspy as he had been asleep for longer than he'd realized before he thought of the boy and girl from the Market. It was the middle of the night, and he loathed the hour; it was when he felt weakest. The night was when Zombies held the tactical advtange, since they could see in the dark (Or so he heard) and he could not. He hated sleep as well; it was when he was giving anything and everything a clear shot at his living flesh. Still, he, like everyone else, needed sleep; so he chose to sleep through the darker hours so he only had to face the light. He closed his eyes; he waited for the dawn.

And we're back after holiday conundrums.

    ~Day 2~

The night was long and weary. This was the first time Kari had been left alone by her parents for such a long time. It felt scary, but at the same time exciting. The possibilities of what she and everyone else could do were endless. The thought alone gave her chills. Before moving on, she recorded the previous days events in her journal. Nothing really happened to record.

Today she would post a meeting to elect a leader type figure for the next two weeks. Chen made it seem that just asking would be a bad idea, and he was right of course. Kari typed up the sheet and printed it. Going to the square, she placed it on the bulletin board, hoping others would see it. If one person did, usually the information spread, which was always a positive.

Things were seeming to be going well so far. However, within a few minutes of Hikari walking back to her home, the sirens began to alert the community of the worse possible situation that could occur in this place: Zombies had passed the first fortification. What exactly triggered their sudden attack was beyond comprehention at this point. What mattered most was rushing to the break in and killing them all on site. They could not let them progress deeper into the city.

She ran off to the main gate, reaching for the pistol in her back pocket. It wasn't a heavy fire arm, but if the bullets managed to penetrate the skull, the zombies should be dead... again. It was quite a distance to where they broke through, how could she figure out exactly where it was? The sirens in between the break in were much louder than the rest. That was the best way they could find the leak and seal it back up. It would be another 15 minutes before reaching them however. Hopefully some others were close enough to contain them slightly before her and more arrived.

Thomas was being lazy as always. Without his parents there to wake him up Thomas had slept in quite late. He was jolted awake by the sound of sirens that blasted through the city. He leaped out of bed and grabbed a long black coat to put on over top of his pajamas since he felt there was no time to get changed. Zombies where getting in there was no time to lose... well no time to lose except the time it took to do his hair, he had to look sharp for the ladies after all. He grabbed a pair of sun glasses off his dresser before rushing into his parents room to grab his fathers old sniper rifle, the one that he jhad been teaching Thomas to use well.

Thomas made his way to the roof of his house. Putting on his sunglasses he looked towards the sun slightly to ensure that the sun reflected off them.
"Zombies, prepare for your worst nightmare." He said in his best serious cool guy voice hoping some girl heard and thought him impressive or cute or something. Once he had finished his cool guy bit he began to use the rooftops to make his way towards where the sirens where the loudest. He hoped he could hide on a roof or in a tree and snipe them, that way he stayed out of dangers way... he hoped. He couldn't let those darn zombies ruin his beautiful completion after all.

Getting up early was the normal routine she adapted after living in this city for so long. After she pushed herself out of bed and after changing she began to fill her bag with medical supplies she needed. She exited her house and locked the door behind her before going to check the bulletin board. Once in a while Elsa would check it in case anyone had posted anything she would be interested in. But she rarely found something that interested her. Except when she got to the square she found a letter on the board about a meeting in two weeks. Elsa never really paid that much attention to that kind of stuff. But with a number of the adults gone now, it was important.

Deciding to think about the election at a later time, the girl began heading off in the direction of the farms when she realized that she had forgot her sewing kit she used to stitch up wounds. She headed back to her house and was almost there when the sirens went off, warning everyone in the city the zombies have gotten in. Elsa rushed back into her house and instead of grabbing her sewing kit she dumped out her bag and began repacking it with the supplies necessary to treat anyone who might be injured due to the zombies getting in. Even if she could help fight them off she could help the others in her own way.

Leaving her house for the second time that day, Elsa stopped when she saw the same guy she has encountered the night before standing on the roof of his house. She was pretty sure that he didn't notice her, but before she knew it he was making his way towards the sirens using the rooftop. She followed him in the same direction, but was careful not to get too close since she didn't know how to use weapons and couldn't fight back.
