Apparently, nobody likes the emo, or the pretty boy, or the shonentard, or the cares for everybody BUT himself/herself person.

So discuss your perfect idea of a FF protagonist. Be it Personality, Conflicting Issues, Age Range, Abilities/Limit Breaks/Overdrives/Summons, or damn near just gave a description or picture.lol

I wanna know what you view as the perfect FFP.

I've only played 2 FF games so far, I may not be a great judge but I thought the MCs were compelling and interesting. Lightning also looks to be on par with all others, with a unique flair.

But I guess my perfect MC in general, would be a male in his mid teens, with immense power but no way to succesfully control it. He'd have to deal with difficulties that a normal teen would have to face (i.e. women, unstable emotions, friendships, learning new things) and overcome them whilst obviously saving the world or some other type of journey. Learning from party members how to slowly start to control the power he wields, becoming a force to save the world or save something or other.

Appearance: Badass, sure but with traits of innocence like vibrant colours, small toys hanging on his belt, etc.
Weapon: Several Floating swords directed with hanf movemets
Limit: Maybe combine all swords to make a giant sword for great attack power or something. Random magic power that fires from his hands to random enemies.

The perfect protagonist is the one that fits. It could be anything; as long as it's a well-played part, it doesn't matter. What people hate about the FF protags are conflicts with their personal preferences, not any explicit problem with the character.

As for my favorite archetype... Well, it probably wouldn't be in a Final Fantasy. I do like Zidane's character, though.

There's really no perfect FF protagonist. I doubt that could even be done, since each personality has ranged very differently.

Level-headed: I'd say that he's actually smart, and not a rash fool who jumps in at every turn. We've seen the good guy who jumps first, asks questions later. Why not make a more level hero? One that doesn't insult the player's intelligence every step of the way.

Different: We've all seen the guy with the sword. Why not be a summoner for a change? Or some strange class that isn't so obviously a tank, or an balanced character. Give him something unique to remember by, as a party member.

Flawed: He can't really be perfect, mainly because we humans commit mistakes, in which case, we want a character we can relate to. Any character can pull off a bad-ass role, but few can actually pull off the realistic one.

I really can't think of anything else right now :/

Well, everyone's perception is different but for me, it would be:

1). A normal guy. I would like an FF Hero that isn't "a chosen one" that just happened to be in the wrong/right place at the wrong/right time and got mixed up in things. I know that you're thinking "Vaan"! But really, that's not the kind of thing I mean.

    2) Someone with at least a little intelligence. I mean, come on, far too many FF Protagonists just rush in and don't think about things.

    3) Not blond, brunet or black, even redhead. Name me one FF Protagonist male who isn't fare haired. Now, think about the ones that are; you have Cloud, Zidane, Tidus, Vaan the list goes on. I want a brown haired character for a change.

    4) Not a melee fighter. Tell me one protagonist who isn't. Come on, I want a mage or a summoner this time.

    5) Flawed. Whether it be that they can't trust people or they are argumentative. I want a flawed character, not someone perfect. Then again, people don't like the "emo" characters so not that.

    6) Not a deliberate love interest. Again, name one that isn't. Squall had Rinoa, Tidus had Yuna, Cloud had Tifa/Aerith, Zidane had Garnet (I think). We don't need a love interest!

I will think of more but that's about it I think.

Am I the only person who likes all the FF protagonists? xD

I didn't mind the emo-ness, or the arrogance, or the stupidity. They were all likeable enough, people just had pet hates ("Why is Tidus such a pussy!? Why is Cloud always depressing?").

Having said that, I look forward to a main female protagonist for a change. (Not including X-2 in this one) Although I'm sure many people will have a reason to hate Lightning too. Maybe she'll turn out "too butch". xD

Actually no, I like all of them too. Although not so much Cloud. He is kind of a downer.

AND TIDUS IS NOT A PUSSY. HE KILLS GOD.

Yes, please don't include X-2, or speak of it for that matter.

I'm liking the look of Lightning. I'm thinking she'll be somewhere between Tifa and Garnet, which is all right by me. FF could use a strong-willed female protag.

A moogle wielding a tommy gun who cares about noone except himself, and is only fighting against the villain because he's being paid to do it, not because of a missing friend, true love or something mushy.
Hey, it'd be the only FF I'd be buyin'!

Is it a problem that I like this idea? XD
Actaully a Moogle main character could be interesting, but I guess it's not something you'd include in the main FF series.

Well there was this one Moogle, Mog, in VI that was a party member.

But yeah, I don't really see much more than the warrior of justice who is at a cross roads in life and must come across many ordeals in relationships, war and darkness as the main character of FF. They all seem to follow this route somewhat so I guess it works. Each character has their own flaws that depend on each players views, like I can't stand Vaan considering after a short while he stops doing protagonist stuff, like talking or having some ultimate power sealed in his left butt cheek or something. Kinda sucks considering the horribly stereotypically accented ginger bastard takes over the lead, and he was my weakest character.

3 and 5 sound like Squall. 3 sounds also like the Warrior(s) of Light and Firion. XD

The Warrior(s) of light had no love interest. I never played FFII but Firion probably didn't either. =p

The "perfect" character can't exist because people will always have a complaint about him/her. Like "Cloud is emo!" or "Lightning is a girl with a sword. Ew." Stuff like that. In my opinion, a really good character should be...

1.) Moderately funny. Not in a jokester-type way where they insult the bad guy at every turn and just plain show no fear because they're "awesome".

2.) Like some others have stated, a level-headed character.

3.) A flaw other than, "I care only about myself. Grrr. *Angst*" Or the whole "hot-headed" thing.

4.) I personally like melee characters. Just as long as the weapons are interesting or fit the story.

5.) A character who wears all white. ...Kidding but I don't want to see more black leather anytime soon(although it looks cool...it's just like saying "I'm badass. Look at me!").

6.) Maybe the character could act completely horrible to everyone else(as in more than just a jerk) and do some really unexpected things. Like killing a "good guy" just because they disagreed. XD I dunno...just a suggestion.

7.) Some realism in how the character acts or thinks. I don't want a character who just "naturally has talent".

Hate when people complain about the main character. This one guy was like "Yea I hated FFX cause basically the whole game is just Tidus crying about his dad".

Like okay? When the character breaks down doesn't make them an idiot, adds a little drama into the storyline.

I've never hated any of the protagonists. I find they fit the story nicely. I have no idea what i would consider to be the 'perfect protagonist'. It would all depend on the story etc.

Not entirely. If you have a strong enough character, the story writes itself. It's usually not wise to come up with the story first, then the character if one wishes to have a well done character-driven yarn.

Never really hated any of the FF protagonist, I think that Square did a pretty good job with their development. I would personally like to see something different and I think I will with Lightning being the lead of FF13.
