I'd like to know everyone's favorite PS2 and PSP games. I'm going to gamestop today to get a USB cord for my PSP and might get a game, either for the PS2 or PSP. So tell me your favorites and why.

My favorites for the PS2 are Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories, Rocket Power: Beach Bandits, and Digimon Rumble Arena 2. I have other great games that are my favorites, but these are just slightly higher.

As for PSP, just the two that I have, which are Phantasy Star Portable and Phantasy Star Portable 2.

Please don't just list games guys, that tends to get spammy, and even the OP asks for an explanation.

    Anyway.

    PS2
Obvious to many, but still. Okami.
Beautifully done game, pretty much everything about it is perfect; great story, award winning soundtrack, and completely unique art style. Plus it draws heavily from Shintoism, yet puts an interesting twist on some things, the Zodiac being one of them. And the amount of replay value it has is pretty great too.

    Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
Good to see a less shitastic side of Jango Fett, much closer to the comic versions of him than the one in the movie. There's few Star Wars games that allow you to play as Boba or Jango, so this was a real treat when it came out. Little short in my opinion, but still fun to play. Lots of stuff to explore, sidequests, the works. And it's always great to kick ass as a Mandalorian, so there's that.

Star Wars: Battlefront I & II
Probably the only FPS games aside from Republic Commando I'll like. Takes the fantasy worlds of Star Wars and lets you play through them via multiple campaigns that are in-universe and II has Heroes, which lets you play as various Jedi and Sith Lords, as well as Chewbacca, Han, Leia, Boba, and Jango. Fantastic addition that makes it fun to play.

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
I'm still working through it, but it's one of the better games I've played on the PS2. Interesting to play as Vincent, as well as the combined third person shooter/melee combat and the fact that you could customize Cerberus however you wanted. Story's not the best, but exploration of Vincent's past is kind of interesting.

    PSP
    Final Fantasy Dissidia/Duodecim
Despite the fanservice nature of them they're legitimately fun to play. Story mode is kind of short (especially in Duodecim) but seeing the NES era characters brought up to date was worth it. Granted some were ruined a little (Onion Knight is the example here), but overall it was done pretty well. Lots of replay value in both.
I prefer Duodecim over the original though, partially because of Tifa and also because of the improved battle system and the fact that it has both games in it.

    Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
When it was first announced I was a bit concerned it would screw with the canon (much like Star Wars) but it turned out to be a really good game. Horrifically depressing, but still great. Really liked the battle system too, should they make a similar game like that in the future for any title in the series I'd like to see that again.
Another thing I liked was the fact that there weren't really any spoilers - if you've played VII or even watched Advent Children, you know what happens.

    Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection
One of the best FF titles in completion with a bridge between both stories. I love the story and characters, it's my second favorite to VII to be honest. I don't like that they went with the original sprite layout (I can understand why, given I and II) since the voices and 3D graphics were a very nice touch on the DS. It also seemed easier than the DS version, but that may just be because I'd already completed it on the DS. Still working through Interlude, haven't gotten to After Years yet.

    Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron
Pretty much everything I said about PS2 Battlefront, but on the PSP. Short story unfortunately, but still fun to play. I like that you can customize your character, from appearance to weapons carried and things like health, stamina, and CP capture rate. If a Battlefront III ever comes out I would definitely like to see that used. Also like the way it did Galactic Conquest, definitely some time-saving aspects to it and required a bit more strategy than the PS2/PC predecessors.

    Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Favorite KH title. One of my favorite PSP games. Everything was well done about the game, from stories and character development to the battle/command system. I sincerely hope they keep that in future titles, because the one they used in Re:Coded was a bit irritating. Out of all of them Aqua's story was my favorite, mostly because it was the one that eventually flipped the "this franchise suddenly makes ****ing sense" for me. Until the Secret Ending, but still. Best spin off yet, though I don't actually consider it a spin off because of the amount it ties into the main story.

I think I'm missing some titles in here but eh it's a quarter to three and this is the best I can do, lol.

FFX - One of the best FF games out there. It has a cracking story, great characters and a lot of stuff to do outwith the main plot.

Shadow of the Colossus - Absolutely beautiful game. Epic battles with fantastic music and visuals that add to the game's beauty. It's a simple game but something everyone should play if they can.

Like Wolfie, FFVII: Crisis Core, FFIV: Collection, Dissidia, and KH: Birth by Sleep are all very good choices for the PSP. Good value for money since there's a lot of replay involved.

I want a refund on those posts. Either way, fine I'll explain why I like them, not that I have much of a reason to like anything

    PS2:
    Final Fantasy X
It's got a great story line, which makes a game great for me. The levels are interesting since you're not leveling up your characters but on a grid where you raise your stats. So if you're not careful you'll end up being too weak by not getting AP(ability points that put up your characters)

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
I'm not one for First Person Shooters at all, but this game is great. I love that you get more of a backstory on Vincent, and the story itself is really nice. The guns are great, since you can choose to customize them for power, more magizines, or Speed. And you get to use a Pistol, Gatling Gun, and a Shotgun. I also love that if you run out of ammo you can just melee a bunch of people without really having to worry about being taken out.

    Rogue Galaxy
This is becoming one of my bigger favorites since I love the story line, and art in it is fantastic, and the fighting system is perfect. The levels are a bit interesting, since if you're not careful, you'll be dying very often, so it helps to grind a bit, and you can also fight enemies a certain amount of times to get points for a Bounty Hunter list, and when you get high enough, you can get bigger awards. I also love the design of some of the swords, and since I'm a sword person I love how they did them.

(I'm only doing this because I only have 4 PS2 games)
    Legend of Dragoon
This game is an all-around great game. It's got a nice long story to it, You don't have to worry too much about levels, and the fighting is great. You can fight using additions, and each one as different strengths, but they can either be for putting up your Strength or getting your Dragoon form faster. The music is great in it, and while the characters are still basically blocks in the movies, they're still great, and the music really makes the feel that much better.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 is a really good game for the PSP; it's pretty good and addictive enough in singleplayer, but then there's the free multiplayer too. Think, basically, combat somewhere between Monster Hunter, Zelda and .Hack... then throw it into a soft sci-fi environment with (mostly) likable characters and INSANE amounts of customisability.

Disgaea 1&2 are other favourites of mine; originally on PS2 but with updated rereleases for PSP. Strategy RPGs like Final Fantasy TicTacs... but with humour, in a crapsaccharine world. I was in love from the moment I saw a friend playing the first game on PS2, and have bought every one new ever since. Third and (upcoming) fourth games are PS3 exclusive, however.

And if all else fails, you can't go far wrong with some kind of sega collection!

The Lord of The Rings: The Third Age:
Other than pokemon, this was the first turn based RPG I had ever played and I loved it. The characters are kinda meh, but they do have some cool abilities and the cameo heroes that joined your team for certain battles were really quite cool. Although, one character (coughEowyncough) was a clone of the main character i so that was a tad lazy of the developers. But overall, a pretty cool game.

    Kingdom Hearts II:
One of the best games on this console. Story is fab, characters are deep and likable and the gameplay was brilliant and overall, this game was amazing.

Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal:
In my opinion, the best game in the series. Everything about this game was excellent, from the weapons to the characters to the story etc. They also included Multiplayer in this game, which was pretty darn good as long as you could find someone who knows hot to play the game

Sly 2 band of thieves & Sly 3 Honor Among Thieves :
Ok, so Iv had these games over 6 years and iv played each game about 100 times all the way through and the plot never gets old! Basically in this game your thieves. Your the good thieves and you steal from the bad thieves, (yah, i don't get how their can be good thieves ether).
There are three main characters, sly (he's the master of all thieves.), Bentley (the brains), and Murray (the muscle). Their a raccoon, tutle, and a hippo ... believe it or not, but none of them can swim. lol. They all met in an orphanage and became best friends. These game's don't really have an intense or complicated plots and they might sound like their for little kids but their not, their just so fun. Its got great graphics and characters you just kind fall in love with. I grew up playing these games, their pretty much apart of me.
I highly recommend these two games. You won't regret it. :)
Ohh, and Iv never played the first one b/c the graphics suck. FYI

    okami
Ok i love this game because it goes on F O R E V E R ! Its kinda a thinking game. It took me like 4 months to completely finish this game. And i must say this game has the best graphics iv ever seen. I completely agree with DPWolf "Beautifully done game, pretty much everything about it is perfect; great story, award winning soundtrack, and completely unique art style." And the fact you can "paint" in this game is awesome. I love everything about Okami, hope they make a second. <3

Never was too much of a PS2 gamer...But, I must say, my few favorites for it, are,

    Kingdom Hearts 2
You simply can't beat a good Kingdom Hearts game...And this one is my personal favorite.

DragonBall Z: Budokai 3 (If you're into Dragonball)
This game is an amazing edition to the DragonBall franchise, it has quite a few characters to choose from, plus the Story Mode allows you to choose different characters and live out their respective story!
I'm pretty sure Broly has his own little story
The gameplay, in my opinion, is pretty good, along with how you can morph the story with certain actions.

Those are really all I can think of off the top of my head... and as for PSP, I'd strongly recommend
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, as it has a simply amazing storyline, and explains quite a lot from the Kingdom Hearts' many confusions.

That's really all I can think of, not too much of a PS gamer, sorry!

Well, since I have a PS2 and not a PSP:

    PS2

    Kingdom Hearts II:

This game was the one that got me into the series, and joining the site, lol. I didn't really understand the beginning at first, mainly because I skipped right over KH1 and COM, but in regards to KH1 I felt this got you well caught up to pre-COM. Anyway, I loved the flashy gameplay of KH2. The Drive Forms, spells and even just simple attacks all had their own unique, detailed little quirk. As for the story, I thought it was a bit lacking in Sora development, but imo it was sort of made up by getting the Roxas gameplay at the beginning, which was in itself a pretty heart-wrenching story.

    Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3:
    Even though it lacks a story, the flashy gameplay is fun and so many characters and customization. ;w;

    1. Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.: First, I need to say that I have never played and finished any of the original Final Fantasy games, because turn-based RPGs tend to bore me. My interest in buying this game came after watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which then piqued my interest in Final Fantasy games. Now, I know DoC isn't the best example, being a 3rd-Person shooter in a series of turn-based RPGs, but it was great for me since I have no prior FF gaming experience to be biased to.

    2. Kingdom Hearts 2.: The reason I got this game was because I wanted to see how ridiculous it had to be to put Disney names together with Final Fantasy characters and a plot with some supposed seriousness to it. It turned out to be worth my while, surprisingly. Though I never played the other games, I had a good grasp of what was going on and I just wanted to play through to the end to see how the story would turn out. It was a good ride to kill off a week or two. What makes this worthy of putting in my list of favorites, however, is the optional boss fight with Sephiroth. Oh, how I enjoyed that.

    3. Soul Calibur 3 Best. Fighting game. Ever. Of all time (at least in my limited experience). What made this game so great? Chronicles of the Sword, a campaign mode in a bloody fighting game. What more could I possibly ask for from a game that lets me make a custom character in a game about fantastic weapon-mastery? Not only that, but they throw in a class system to go with custom character making. The amount of entertainment I received from this game is unfathomable. How they managed to f*** this up with Soul Calibur IV *spits* is beyond me, but when Soul Calibur V is released, I hope they decide to re-visit these roots. Otherwise, I think Soul Calibur III will remain the best of the series.

    4. Jak 3.: The whole experience of playing Jak 3 is one big wild ride. I just liked hopping into any vehicle I liked and tearing through the wastelands. I also liked that they decided to end the main storyline by actually filling in some blanks left over from the last 2 games.

    PSP

    1. Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite: It's very hard for me to get bored with this one. Concept is fun, and lots of it. Multi-player is also a thrill.

    2. Wipeout: Pure Yay for the soundtrack and yay for the smoothness of controls. I kill time with this bad-boy.

    3. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core: Not much I can say that anyone else hasn't already. I'm a freak for the Hero theme, and it's a nice feeling that I can see a character I can relate to in Zack Fair.

    PS2 ~
☆ any of the ssx snowboarding games. they were based off an "arcade style" game with the first ssx but has really progressed into something really cool in my opinion. i started playing them when i was in fourth grade with ssx tricky and now they're working on a new installment for the ps3 which i'm obviously going to get. if you were to get one though get ssx tricky and ssx 3. it's not like they have a story mode so whichever installment you get doesn't really matter.

☆ final fantasy x. for obvious reasons..it's a freakin' long and time consuming game so it'll get you your money's worth, besides the fact that it's actually cheap now considering how long ago it came out and all. really nice graphics for it's time. really nice transitioning into fmv scenes and plus it's the first ff with voice acting. get it if you don't have it already - p.s. ffx-2 was kinda lame so unless you're in it for the story (which you can easily look up the cut scenes online) don't waste your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

☆ call of duty 3. used to be online play but not anymore cause no one uses the ps2 for online play anyway. but besides that it's like a completely different standard of call of duty game. the characters are cool and it takes place during world war ii which is historically the time period i like my call of duty games.

[there's prob more ps2 games i missed so if i can think of any i'll add onto this list l8r]

    psp~

☆ final fantasy vii: crisis core. for the reasons everyone else stated. good game and story/prequel for ffvii. solid graphics, it's probably cheap now.

☆ birth by sleep. you're on a kingdom hearts website l o l if you don't have it already you have to get it. it only complicates the kingdom hearts story more but not in a bad way, it'll make other things have more sense while opening the door (get it? kh pun har har) to other confusion in the kh world.
