People in the United States who don't put their hands over their hearts when the pledge is being recited. Every year in school, there are at least two or three people in my homeroom class that do this. Yes, I know you have the right to not do it, but for God's sake, it makes you look like a prick. The least you can do is show a little symbol of how you appreciate those who are dying for your right to do so.

    Ok rant over. xD

What really grinds my gears is my teachers say that I don't do any work. I do work, just not yours.

Everyone stands up, but during the moment of silence, people are talking to others and texting on their cel phones. And they even sit down

My school is horrible... Practically nobody puts there hand over their heart while they're saying the pledge, and some people are always either giggling or talking... and it REALLY annoys me when they say it as LOUD AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN just to be funny... it's pathetic, in my opinion...

On 9/11, my principal had us all stand up for a moment of silence after the pledge... I took it seriously, thinking back on everyone who died in the tragedy, but I ended up being ticked off the rest of the day... Because people are so immature as to LAUGH while giving a moment of silence for people who DIED. Seriously, there's something wrong with that...

Advent, our school defines immaturity in my opinion. Honestly, they're all idiots here...

Wow, that's just wrong. Not even the kids in my school laughed...

We did a whole "Patriotic day" on 9/11. Everyone in red, white, and blue, and there was a dance after school. Seems kinda inappropriate, to celebrate a tragedy like that, but I heard it was one of the best dances my school's had.
No extra moment of silence or anything...

No one in my school really fools around during the Pledge, but no one really takes it seriously either.

... I know this is going to get bad replies, but I've never really understood the importance of the Pledge. Can someone explain?

A dance? That does seem rather inappropriate.

And the pledge is just a rather unsuccessful attempt at spreading patriotism.

Blind patriotism is as bad as blind faith, and neither should be forced on children in school.

I admit, as much as it sounds not so patriotic, I usually take a few seconds more then raise my hand to me. As stupid as it sounds, I take the pledge and all seriously, but I don't want to just stand up and show such patriotism and wutnot. I always do stand up and recite it, but it's always a little late. But hey, those few seconds missed are for the bad things of the US hm? The rest of the time can be for whoever needs it soldiers, workers, etcetc.

Yeah... My school is pretty pathetic... At least my writing teacher understands what it feels like to lose someone like that... T-T

She had us write an essay about what we're the most thankful for, who would be the last person we'd call if we only had one phone call, and what we turn to for comfort... It's a rather sad day, but it makes me feel good to know there are some people out there who understand things like this... =)

Still, they should at least TELL the kids at schools what it's for... *thinks about asking the principal to tell kids about it* XD

I'm not saying we should force it, and it actually isn't, but I just think that you should. While some people have genuine grievances with the United States, most of them are just stupid kids that don't know how good they have it. You should also do it if you really have a problem with the country, since it's also a symbolic ode to those who have died in the name of the country.

Interesting rant, but I never knew you had gears in the first place.

ANYWAYS, I never see anyone put their hands over their hearts reciting the National Anthem here. Maybe it is not needed.

Did any of these children ask these people to die for them? Did they agree with the cause for which they died?

    If not, why take part?

Indeed. And people who feel that a slight upward movement of your right hand to respect those who have fallen for this country is too much for them to do really annoy me.

No, they didn't. But does it matter? It's not like it's a process that takes hours or something. It's a quick ten to twenty second symbol of respect. I don't see what's so difficult.
