I don't think this is really Help with Life worthy. Anyway, about 2 hours ago, I left to pick up my mom at my aunt's; on the way back, we took the freeway. Well, as we're near our exit, there's a car behind us and a cop car behind it -- he was pulling over the car behind us. However, since it was dark, it was very unclear as to whether we were being pulled over, too -- my mom's heard of cases where they kill two birds with one stone. Anyway, we sit there for about 5 minutes because we're still unsure. My mom tells me to leave a few times, but I ask her if she's 100% sure, and she's not, so we wait some more. Finally, she just says to leave because it looked definite that it was the guy behind us. Both her and I know I wasn't speeding. According to the car, I was going exactly 70 MPH, but since the speedometer is off by 2 MPH, I was actually going 68 MPH. If it had been us getting stopped, the only thing she can think of is that I went over the rumble strip because I wasn't paying attention. I guess we'll see if we get a ticket in the mail in the next two weeks or so. My mom's also going to make a call when she goes into work on Tuesday to ask. What do you guys think?
I think your fine. I doubt they nab you for going 2 under, but who knows. You said you waited, and the cop didn't come over to you? Then your good. Besides, you said it was dark. I doubt he got your plate even if he pulled you over to.
At best it had nothing to do with you. At worst you'll get a letter satin you evaded the police and will be charged with some non-compliance action. To be honest, by the sounds of it, you are not in the wrong and the police officer knew so. I may not be a police officer, but if I were to pull two cars over at once I'd inform both cars that they were in the wrong and be seen to at some point, otherwise one person may feel that they weren't being charged and leave like you did. Also, I wouldn't understand why one police car (one/two officers?) would be sufficient enough to deal with two cars, potentially having 10 people over both vehicles. I mean I've seen the police chase videos, a guy with a potential offensive weapon can have about 30 ****ing cops on him. I love UK cops, we have about two guys to a group of five more or less.
You should be okay. I was in a similar situation where I was doing the limit and a guy behind me insisted on riding my tail. Cop flew up behind him and pulled him over. I sat there for a while watching the whole thing go down until the cop came up, knocked on my window, and as I handed him my license and registration said "Why'd you sit there? You weren't tailing anyone. Get outta here." I was free to go, and never got anything in the mail either. He could have pulled the guy over for a number of reasons, not just speeding: the plate could have triggered something in the system, he could have had a taillight out, maybe he pulled some stunt a ways back you didn't see but the officer did. Also, I think if he had wanted to talk to you he would have done it at some point after first talking to the guy behind you, just to let you know not to go anywhere, you were next.
Headlights and the camera on the dashboard. If he got pulled over then they would have his license plate. There is no question there at all.
