Is it possible to get this on Windows 7? It's version 2.1.

Anyway, I have 2.6 because Windows 7 didn't come with it, but I've run into some small issues that aren't really "issues" and I have no idea how to work Windows Live Movie Maker.

Anyway, the "issue" comes from making credits, as you guys know.

First one is the font size.

    Take my...

    Ambition's Main
    Title Theme

    ...credit for example.

To get Title Theme on a separate line, I have to hold the space bar until I hear the error message, meaning it can't go further.

With the default size on 2.6, it appears as (hyphens indicate spacing)...

    Ambition's Main ---------------------- Title
    Theme

...so I have to size it up twice, whereas in XP's I didn't have to.

The second issue is that because "Scroll, Up Stacked" has less room to type on any version of WMM, I cannot get three names in it like I used to on XP's movie maker, so I had to cut my dog out of the special thanks, and this is regardless of size. Additionally, if I size it up too big, it cuts off the name.

You can use these videos to see what I mean (one's with editing on Window XP's movie maker and one's with editing on Windows 7's movie maker) and compare the credits. Look for the "Special Thanks" credit as a key credit and compare between the two videos below.

    Windows XP - Windows Movie Maker 2.1 - 3/25/2010: Skip to 19:15

    Windows 7 - Windows Movie Maker 2.6 - 11/20/2012: Skip to 26:05

I'm asking this because it doesn't come separately from XP Service Pack 2.

Possibly. Give it a try. Or you can get something like Sony Vegas.

Well, that didn't work. When it started installing, it went to 2.6.

Sadly, I can't do any of those -- at least I don't think so. Our old Dell that we use as a substitute PC when one of ours breaks down has XP, but I don't know if it would work.

I don't get it, though. What would be different in 2.6 than 2.1. that would change that? (See my videos if you haven't already.)

2.1 and 2.6 are basically the same thing, but 2.1 is only compatible with XP, while 2.6 is the Vista/7 compatible version.

    Indeed.

However, if you look at the videos in my OP and look for the "Special Thanks" credit on both to compare (see my instruction in that post), you'll see what my "issue" is and why I want Windows XP's movie maker.

I really don't think it's possible without some serious finagling. It's probably easiest to just get used to 2.6--even if you get 2.1 working on Windows 7, I can't imagine that it would work all that well, simply because it's not designed for the operating system. Windows 7 and Windows XP are written very differently.

Yeah, as far as WWM on 7 goes your choices are 2.6, 6.0, and Live.

I personally go for 6.0 the few times I use it (I prefer not to use WMM at all, but I get that if you don't have the money for a good program or the tech know-how for the complex freeware you're kinda stuck)

Are you saying it wouldn't work too good because it'd be coming from our Dell or just in general?

Also, I actually am used it since it's the same as 2.1. The only problem I have with it is the text, and I can't figure out why it would be different.

You watched the parts in the videos I indicated and compared, I'm assuming? If so, then you saw the issue.

For my Special Thanks credit on XP's 2.1 with the default font size and style (Microsoft Sans Serif), I could get it to work:

    Special Thanks
    Karen Cumming
    Maggie Garcia
    Genaro Garcia

But on Windows 7's 2.6 with the default font size and style:

    Special Thanks
    Karen Cumming
    Maggie Garcia ------- Genaro Garcia

The hyphens indicate spacing. Both are these are using the "Scroll, Up Stacked" credits option.

Using the "Fade, In and Out" credits option, I could get four names to show properly up when I had it as four people having directed it on 2.1:

    Directed by
    Amaury Garcia
    Karen Cumming
    Maggie Garcia
    Genaro Garcia

But, of course, not in 2.6. What would be different in 2.6 that would cause this? When I size it up twice, it cuts the last name off for Special Thanks, so I had to remove my dog and doesn't work with four. The only way I can get it to work is if I use the Rod font style, but even when bold, it doesn't stand out as much as the default Microsoft Sans Serif.

Are 2.6 and 6.0 essentially the same?

I don't like Live because I can't figure out how to do my credits like I did on 2.1, do on 2.6, and would do on 6.0.

6.0 is in the older style like 2.x, though it is different enough to label it as a major version change. I can't make it work exactly the way you want since it designed to only display one name in those boxes and they decided at some point that only two lines should be allowed for that. This looks like a reasonable alternative though.

    That's 6.0?

Also, I just thought of something if I still want to use 2.1.

You could also work with them directly on the External Drive

When you are importing files, just take them from the external drive. The drive does need to be connected the whole time though. Otherwise you get an error when it tries to load them. If you happen to be working on a part that doesn't need them you can ignore that and just trust they'll come back when you attach the drive again, but considering WMM isn't the most reliable I try not to push my luck.
