Why the **** is necrobumping a rule?

    No seriously
    It doesn't make any sense.
Every thread ever made is saved an archived on this forum
So why is it encouraged to make a new thread about the exact same topic rather then just posting in the old thread?
    It baffles me.

Because threads die for a reason and it can be annoying when random threads from several years ago reappear on the first page. However, if you have something worthwhile to add to the discussion then yes necrobumping is in fact allowed.

Depends on the section. The rules in each say where it's good and not

But why make a new thread if it's just going to be the same thread as before? I don't think I have ever seen a necrobumped thread left open. Never mattered if the person added to the discussion or not. I could see if it was some random spam thread, but even then, some thread have topics with substance.

Necrobumping being allowed with no real exceptions is like saying that the internet lives in the same plane of time. With old threads come old members and outdated information. It's really just preferable to make news ones sometimes unless you have relevant information to add. It's okay in most sections, but the spam zone is different.

Then what exactly is the point of having those threads still there?
Why not just delete everything past page 5 or something, they're ARE forums that do that
Also why lock the threads after they've been necrobumped? If someone bumps an 2 year old thread and it leads to 4 more pages of discussion is there really any reason to lock the thread?

For the sake of nostalgia. Who doesn't like going back to old threads to see how stupid we were?

As seen by the desire for people who wanted User Notes that were lost, back, it's the esire of doing it for nostalgia.

More people are for it then against it so...

If you ever see a thread that was closed without a justified reason, I implore you to PM someone who can re-open it.

    ^ this entirely

You edited your post so I never got to respond to this.

The thing though is that outside of the Spamzone, if something like this happened, the thread wouldn't be locked. It's actually encouraged in some sections to see if a thread about the subject you want to talk about has been made and if it has, then necrobump it. You seem to think that necrobumped threads are almost always locked yet...that only happens in the Spamzone for obvious reasons. It's dead spam. Why should we revisit it?

Me. I'd rather all of my stupid posts fall into oblivion instead of being open for the world to see

Rules are hard to understand, but they're there for a reason. Necrobumping is like necrophilia. Nobody likes it when somebody does that. So why bring it up.

By the way, why did you bring this up? Did you try Necrobumping a thread or what Jube?

Unless the corpse belongs to your deceased wife, why should you care what a somebody does to another [literally] rotten body? That is a most un-analogous analogy if ever I've seen one. Nobody likes it could apply to too many scenarios, so the analogy is rather unnecessary. You could do better.

I won't stop. Not now, not ever. I am the thing that keeps you up at night, the evil that haunts every dark corner of your mind. I will never rest... and neither will you.
