Why not have a mobile phone txt service like facebook? it would b easier than having to find a computer and you put like Visitor Message: to: Username, from: Username2 so why not have that?
Do you have any proof if this is possible with vB? Even if it was...I don't think many people would be comfortable putting their cell numbers into a service like this, because unlike sites like Facebook (where you have to be friends with a person in order to message them) anyone can leave a visitor message for any member. And speaking for myself, I don't think it'd be a good idea to support everyone giving out their phone numbers, so I'm rather against this. >> Besides, if you're good friends with another member, just ask them if they'd like to exchange cell numbers via PM. Then you could just text each other normally, lol.
"Hiding" the number doesn't change the fact that you'll still have to imput your number. Plus...people change names all the time. And again, do you even know if it's possible on a vB board?
To be honest, I really doubt this is possible, and I also doubt many KHV members would appreciate it. I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, merely that this really isn't the community for it.
Well one of my friends is really sad cuz shes close to me and 2 other members and shes gonna get a fone with internet just to talk to us. I only suggested this to make it easier for her. and only 1 staff member should have the numbers and plus 4 some of us its hard to get to a computer, so it would make many inactive usernames active... over all i think it would b easier anyway
It's not a matter of a staff member having the numbers, it's that it would probably have to be stored on the actual site's database - should it get hacked, those phone numbers could become available to the hacker. And once again...Do you know for a fact if this is possible with vBulletin forums and sites?
Mind if I add something I wanted to add yesterday but didn't have the time to: http://www.robwoelich.com/products.php?do=view&id=7 This product notifies you by sending a text messag to your mobile when you have a new PM, VM, etc. Not that I really agree with this.
