Why is Sonic Unleashed considered such a horrible game!?

I've looked through every ratings site and this game gets 3/10 to 5/10 just for Werehog stages. I've been playing this game since I got it on Christmas and it's awesome. Was on part of a game ever so bad it ruined the experience. The only bad thing is collecting those goddamn Sun and Moon Medals to get to the next level. Oh, by the way my PSN is marquel97.

I don't know, I didn't find the Black Knight that bad either except it was too short and look what it got in reviews.

Sonic games are known and loved for what the first 3 2D games were known for: Fast platforming action with levels that had branching paths, secrets to find, and fun gameplay.

The recent Sonic games have had none of that. The newest Sonic game had amazing daylight levels that are a huge step-forward for the series but the werehog levels were once again the same flaw with recent Sonic games; they were trying something 'new' to appeal to a new crowd. Those levels felt like a child's version of god of war.

It pleases me so much that they're finally making an HD 2D Sonic game.

they could have made the game more epic i mean think about it sonic turns into a werewolf that sounds like a good game but being a wolf suck also the game is really kidish at times unlike sonic adventure 2 battle one of the best sonic games music in sonic unleashed could have been better but it's not all bad

Ah, I remember playing this game. To be honest, I don't mind playing Day Stages...best part of the game. Werehog stages were more frustrating, dark, and less fun than Day Stages. The Sonic games are meant for that fun and fast thrill we get from running so fast. The Werehog stages took all of that out.

I can't speak for Sonic Unleashed, because after Sonic '06 I was done. I just couldn't even stomach the idea that SU put forth, and this coming from a former rabid fanboy. Sonic was my childhood. Hell, I managed to stomach '06 since it functioned just enough for me to get through it and it featured Dan Green in a villainous role (His laugh... Mmh~), but when they pitched the hogwolf idea, I knew they were through trying to make sense.

Sonic Team has been getting farther and farther from the ideal since Sonic Adventure 2. Actually, I'll go so far as to say that Sonic Heroes was not bad, it just wasn't good enough to stand alone; it was still a novel idea. I'll even allow that Shadow the Hedgehog, while in almost every respect a flop, was at least a decent effort to branch out in some different directions; at least they were trying new things. The more recent titles are just lazy tack-ons that do nothing to freshen the game play at all and, having failed that, don't even appeal to the old-school high-speed platforming aesthetic of the older games. They had those two options: branch out, or go back to their roots; and they largely failed both. The best game in which Sonic has appeared in recent years is Brawl, for chrissake.

If the aesthetic, game play mechanics, and multi-player of SA2:B were translated to a newer title while simultaneously fixing the many programming bugs, scaling back the sheer character density a bit, and GETTING THE OLD F**KING VOICE CAST BACK (Oh David Humphrey, I miss you so...), Sonic might finally get back up on his feet. They could even keep these high-speed segments they've become so bloody fond of, and maybe even let Shadow keep his guns, if they just cleaned it all up a bit. And I did play an SU demo with a high-speed section, and it seemed pretty functional, so they're getting somewhere with that. Sonic Team has the pieces, they're just not putting them together at all.

If there's any one thing I can say Sonic Team is still doing right with Sonic, it's Jun Senoue. The music put out by Sega is always guaranteed to be beautiful, but that man doesn't just raise the bar, he knocks it clean off its hinges. That's probably a major contributor to why I was suckered into buying the games for so long; music is a big part of my life, and if it sets the mood just right it can redeem a lot of bad games in my eyes. Call it a weakness, but Sonic games' music has always made my heart melt.

Tell you what, though. They'd better not drop the copyright, because I and a friend of mine have been thinking about crazy sh*t we could do if we snatched it up. >3

There's always Sonic Adventure on XBLA people. In other related news, I went out on a major shopping spree (Christmas Overtime Payday) and managed to acquire a 'Sonic & The Black Knight' Sonic Figure as well as the complete series of both SATAM Sonic and AOSTH. Also looking forward to Project Needlemouse as well.
