When I take my computer off standby and click on a link, such as What's New? on a forum (vBulletin forums seem to be the place it's happening, as it used to happen here), this happens sometimes, and I've been curious why:

Shit happens. You' re the one I explained that Windows A+B stuff before right ? Adding a task out of the blue can lead windows to, err ... stutter, sort of. The more stuff it was already doing the higher the chances for it to stutter.

Imagine that you were already using both of your hands to do something, and that I suddenly threw something at you, yelling "catch this". There would be a chance for you to watch it crash to the ground instead of catching it.

Windows does everything you ask it to do with a single "hand", so when you ask it to do several tasks there' s a chance for a bug to happen, especially if those tasks needed much "focus" (computing).

Internet connexions can also bug by the way. Sometimes the information packages you receive have been altered along the way, a 0 replaced a 1 for some reason, and the whole package doesn' t make sense anymore.

    So, yeah, bugs happen.

    I understand that.

However, I'm saying this only happens when I take my computer off sleep. Additionally, another thing that happens when I just take it off sleep is that I don't have an Internet connection for about 10 seconds.

Same reason you feel like your head is still stucked in your butt when you wake up. "Get out of sleep" might sound like a simple, single action to you but it' s not, it' s a lot of different actions, and some of them have a noticeable loading time.

I love the way you describe things.

Also, Amaury, just uninstall AVG, it is literally THE worst antivirus, and is probably causing this problem. If that solves it, just install security essentials.

    The program is fine.

If anything, it's the Safe Search feature on it that's the problem. However, it's probably not even a problem. When I take my computer off sleep, it takes about 10-15 seconds for the Internet to get connected.

Then its the computer itself, its probably just slow. How much RAM does it have?

2.00 GB -- 1.75 GB usable. However, I'm pretty sure RAM doesn't affect the Internet connection.

By the Internet won't get connected for 5-10 seconds, I meant just that. It won't connect for 5-10 seconds if the computer just gets off sleep. My computer's speed is just fine.

It wouldn't affect the internet connection itself but it could affect how quickly the computer gains access to the internet connection. Also 2 GB RAM is pretty bad. Id recommend at least 4 if youre running win 7. RAM is extremely cheap now, you can get like 2 GB for around $10.

It's because, when a computer goes into sleep mode, it turns off components like the network cards/interfaces to save power. Your computer is not "sleeping," it's just in an extremely low-energy mode. If you want to try stopping sleep mode from disabling your networking, try this guide.

Nah, I was just curious as to why it happened. Also, if it's not sleeping, methinks they should have kept the name as "stand-by." They changed it to "sleep" in Vista, I believe , right?

So, that "Page Not Found" is related, then? Usually, if there's no Internet connection, like if your Internet goes down, it'll show Mozilla's page not found thing with a button to try again. Does it show that AVG page because the Internet connection is not really "down," but just off, and is therefore different than if your Internet actually goes down?

I don't know why AVG would do that exactly but I expect it's related since you're coming out of sleep mode. You should be able to disable AVG's browser functions somehow, though. I don't really know because I don't use it.

They did rename stand-by to sleep at some point, they're essentially the same. Sleep just sounds nicer.

    Alright, thanks.

It's not that big of a deal, though. I was just curious again. :)

    One lock, please, Miss Santa!
