Why do People Cheat in Video Games? :/

I've been wondering for a while--why do people cheat in video games? It pretty much bothers me because I myself don't like to cheat because I'd like to play the game normally without hacking it. What do you guys think about cheating?

 

I don't cheat in games until after I've already finished it that way I played it through on my own. And by using cheats the second time round you can find the things you previously missed so you know where they are and how to get them for the third time you play without cheats again. But that is just how I do things.

 

Define cheating.

 

I enjoy using cheats in video games, the exact way odamadillo described it, but when i'm playing on the xbox, i can remove a save from the memory, and edit it a little, but i simply do that for cosmetics/apearance.

Say you playing soul calibur V, and playing in legendary souls, you see the soul calibur IV nightmare, siegfried, And the SoulEdge [Actual games name] Inferno cervantes, now since its not really cheating, but simply save editing.

To get those costumes, you need to know a little bit about Hex editing.

I don't think a lot of people cheat their way through a first playthrough or anything, actually. Most people use cheat codes/hacks for fun to play as characters you couldn't play before, circumvent glitches or limitations, etc.
They basically let you do more than you could normally in a game, for example playing as Riku in KH2, or accessing a conversation with a character that was blocked out by a glitch in Grim Fandango.

 

I enjoy cheating with it's added features . . . but that was back in the good ole' PS2 days. Gameshark . . . ah, memories.

I like beating the game without cheats however to give myself that sense of accomplishment. But I just gotta have me some infinite jump on Sly Cooper 2 . . . gotta love dem jumps :D

When I would use hacks it was just to see what was possible beyond what the game would allow.

It's not the same thing as cheating, because you're not making the game easier in most cases.

 

I know what you're saying, it's like Mods. Like in Resident Evil 4, there was a mod to play as Ashley in place of Leon. It didn't make the game easier, just gave it a different look. Cheats and mods are two different things. I won't say that hacks aren't the same thing as cheating because . . . well most hacks i've seen help to make things easier. But most mods i've seen are for things like, changing character skins or items, say like a normal sword can look like an amazing sword but still have the same stats. Of course there are mods to make games easier too.

 

I know I used cheats in Warcraft[Not WoW] and Starcraft only because of those 'X Must Survive' missions. The Invincibility cheat made those missions[and the escort missions] so much easier. I really do not like escort missions or X Must Survive scenarios.

By cheating do,you moding and hacking?

 

Toggling collision on the fly is so very useful when you get stuck between rocks or in a hole you can't jump out of and your last time you saved was an hour ago.

 

What the hell is moding? I know about modding, so is moding something new?

Why would you tell me not to start AFTER I've started?

 

Because people who cheat are lonely nerds who have never gotten laid and cheating is a way of making them feel like they are worth something.
