Why did Kairi choose to stay on the islands at the end of Kingdom Hearts 1? Why not stay with Sora and others in the search for Riku? I might get my answer if I replay KH, but I'm to lazy to do it.

Well... in the game, Sora said it would be dangerous for Kairi to tag along. Plus, she didn't have any experience what so ever... So, I guess she figured she would just be in the way, because Sora would be busy trying to save Kairi the whole time while trying to fight the heartless. That would've been super frustrating.

In the heat of the moment, as Sora and Kairi drifted apart, they probably didn't have time to think of any other options. It would have been very dangerous for Kairi to stay with him, so staying back was a smart idea. But I think another reason she went back to the islands was because of Sora's promise to her at the end of the game. That probably motivated her to go back.

Sora says that Kairi would just be in the way, and Kairi says that he wins, so probably she though it would be best to go back to the islands, as she would've been safe there.

True. XP but i'm guessing Kiari stayed back to watch the Islands, and be safe.. even though she wound up forgetting Sora like a 20$ you-know-what XD

Because they both wnated to go back, but one of them had to stay and search for Riku, and they both knew Sora was the most qualified for the job.

I think because it was all in the moment, and she and Sora didn't have time to think about the fact that she could jump over. And also she'd made that promise that she wouldn't go with Sora because it would be too dangerous.

But what I've always wondered is how in the world did she suddenly appear on that little island slab?? Wasn't she in Traverse Town at the time??

They beat "Ansem", so everything was returning to 'normal'. Included within that was Kairi's return to Destiny Islands, which is why she was there (a better question would be how Sora, Donald and Goofy ended up there of all places. Now that really doesn't make sense, unless you say that the End of the World is actually in the remains of Destiny Islands =3 then it adds up somehow).

As for why Kairi didn't come along with Sora, if you look closely, it's kind of apparent, he keeps trying to pull away while she's clinging on. I'd like to give her at least enough credit to have gotten the hint, and add it up with Sora bluntly telling her she'd get in his way.

She was probably scared and confused about what to do. and she would be safe at home.

Remember how in the beginning of the game it said "The end is near, but also far away" It's saying that the end of the world wasn't far from destiny islands, Destiny islands remains stayed at the end of the world, when ansem was defeated, Kiari returned to Islands knowing she'd be safe, and would re-unite with Sora and Riku soon.

Seeing how in KH2 she said that waiting isn't good enough, and had Sora backed down even a mite before going off to the final battle, Kairi'd have forced him to take her with him, I doubt she chose to stay because she knew they'd come back home soon. It's more that she didn't really have a choice.

    ...

With Kairi Having no experience with Defending herself & fighting the heartless, she would of thought she was a nuisance to Sora. So the smart thing to do was to stay behind on the islands. This turned out to everybody's favor such as Sora, Organization XII, Namine, etc. This was also useful for Kairi's promise to Sora that he would come back to the islands with Riku.

OR the staff got lazy and decided to put Kairi on the islands because it would make the plot more simpler than it could of been. lol.
