When you watch anime...

do you watch it subbed or dubbed? i prefer dubbed when possible

 

For most animes, always the subs. The only good dubs I could stand were Death Note, Chobits, and Higarashi.

I agree. 4Kids fail at dubbing. I usually prefer subbed anime though. The only dubbed ones I watch are Ouran and FMA.

 

dub somtimes suck.. But I do both ^^ the vampire dub IS A EPIC FAIL!!...

 

I watch subs because sometimes dubs can sound not so good. And I hate thinking that I might be watching a edited cleaner verison of the anime in dubs. The main reason I watch subs is because I don't like to wait for it to be dubbed.

 

Well, it depends. I usually watch subs, but if I really like the sub, I will go and at least try and watch the dub. Some were epic fails (Cardcaptor Sakura) and some were okay (Lucky Star).

I usually just watch the subs though, I like to hear all of the original Japanese voices and, sometimes, music.

 

It depends on how well the dubs are, most times, it's subtitled, but with shows like OHSHC, they are perfect and I barely watch it in Japanese.

I have to admit I didn't like the voices for Fruits Basket in Japanese. Yuki sounded waaaay to feminine.

 

The dub of OHSHC is good, but the Dub of "Sakura Kiss" (the opening song) is absolute gash!

I mainly go for subs rather than the dubs, because some dubs just sound (and look) completely ridiculous (i.e. Magical Doremi (one of the first anime's I had ever watched). I preferred the Japanese version and the Portuguese version to the 4kids dub.) If I really like the anime, I'd switch to dubs to see how its like, and sometimes it turns out to be pretty neat (i.e. FMA, Fruits Basket, Death Note, Pet Shop of Horrors, Inuyasha, Chobits).

 

I always watch movies and anime in their original languages because it just looks awful when there's someone else dubbing over. There is also the fact that dubs usually take MUCH longer to come out than dubs, at least in anime, so I watch it with subs.

 

Dubbed. Always. I figure it's because I get annoyed that I have to read the words at the bottom of the screen, and then I can't focus on the action happening in the actual anime. It got frustrating after a while, so I just switched. Now I can't watch anything but English dubbed versions.

 

For me, I usually watch is dubbed. There are a lot of good dubs out there and I've past very few that were just aweful (the Chibi Vampire anime for example). If I think one is bad, that's because the anime is from a time earlier last decade when people hardly knew what anime was so the companies didn't care about the dub. I would like to see some of those animes being re-dubbed today.

For the movies, I would have to also say that it depends on when the movie came out. I saw Ju-On: The Grudge, and would recommend that in it's original Japanese version. However, some recent ones that come out, like the Death Note movies, have had pretty good dubs come out of there. People like to blame how the actors, but I also like to believe that it is either the actor couldn't understand it or the movie wasn't really good in the Japanese version (L: Change the WorLd).

However, I will say that watching movies from other countries should be watched in subbed form. It's good to see how the director original wanted it to be and to display the true talent of the actors involved.

Sometimes I like the Japanese voices better than the English ones, because they put more feeling into the anime. Some of the English dub ones really suck, and their emotion is dry... Kind of like on Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh (No offense). But then again it gets annoying to read the subtitles, because sometimes they speak so fast, I have to pause it and reread what the heck they're saying in order to understand it. But sometimes it's better to watched dubbed animes, because I can see what's going on and what they're doing instead of relying on the words to know what's going on... if you know what I mean.

 

Yeah I agree, some dubs are well enough made so that you can watch it without losing any of the immersion. However, I still have to say that at least in most cases it's much more natural and authentic to watch it in the original language. But in the end, who cares? As long as the story is good it should be fine wheter subbed or dubbed.

 

I usually watch anime in subs. Some dubs can be really ridiculous. Most are good, and might be better than the original, but the release of the dubs takes an awful lot of time. Usually takes years. Of course, I'm an impatient man. Subbers really do a good job at subbing in time.

 

I usually dub but I will sub sometimes due to the fact that dubs could not be as good.
