Don't you guys hate it when you install or update a program and something else is forced along with it?

So I got the typical popup on my computer saying there was an update for Flash Player that I always get when there's an update. It directs me to get3.adobe.com and I install the update, but it also installed a free McAffe Scan Plus without the option to opt out, which is usually there. I just removed it afterward.

Doing some research on the official site, it's apparently been an issue since April 2012. Also, get3.adobe.com is official, it's just a sub-domain of get.adobe.com (source).

They apparently also forced things when it came to some Google stuff.

In any case, while I don't like when companies do that, I'm not going to get how some of the people in that topic got.

I don't care. I'm like a tech genius so that crap doesn't bother me. If the option to opt out is there then okay, if not (I normally don't download but if I do) I just remove it afterwards. Though I do get frustrated when I have to clean out computers of people who just download all of it all the time. Not to mention the virus' that come from a lot of these 'extra' downloads. Meh, if I ever start a computer shop I suppose it'll be good for business so I say keep 'em coming.

Forced updates have been a thing for a lot longer than that.[DOUBLEPOST=1384795741][/DOUBLEPOST]
But you aren't actually a tech genius, right?

No, I wasn't referring to updates, but things that come with them.

For example, you have two programs: Program 1 and Program 2. Program 1 is a standalone program, but Program 2 comes with it and there is no way to opt out. You have to manually uninstall it afterward.

Yeah, I know what you mean. A lot of things I need for editing generally come with programs I do not want. I am usually happy when it is just an IE toolbar since I never use IE. But a lot of the time is is... well, a full fledged program I'll never use.

No, I am. I took two years at a vocational school for IT and am currently enrolled in university working for my Computer Information Systems degree (bachelors anyway). I prefer coding but I do know quite a bit about maintenance. If there's one thing I learned it's that computers don't come with a cup-holder ... trust me, it's really not a cup-holder.

Srsly tho, ahm like a totes mad genus wen it comes to puters and junk.

Then why did you say that you're just similar to a genius?

You're confusing the correct way to use the word 'like' and the modern slang version in which you casually place it just about anywhere in your sentence for no reason at all. I suppose it was my fault for not using appropriate grammar for the term. Perhaps I should rephrase ... I'm, like, a tech genius!!!

This is why you always do a custom/advanced install. The programs that hide options to not install things almost always put them in there.

I didn't see any advanced options.

Was there a choice between a "Quick" and "Custom" installation?

I installed the Flash update yesterday and wasn't forced into downloading McAfee. Said it was going to but they let me choose if I wanted it.

The real deciding factor for me is if it's installing crapware on my system then I have a distaste for the program itself. Flash is being phased out, anyway. Long live HTML5.

I hear DVI is being phased out too.

You've been saying that for like a year and everything I use still relies on Flash.
Are you similar to one of those nutjobs who say the world is ending but it never does?

There's really no reason for a website to rely on flash anymore. If they do, it's laziness/unwillingness to adapt. The only thing on here we use Flash for is file uploads, and iirc we have a fallback.

    Doesn't YouTube's player run on HTML5 now?

Is it an easy change then? Honestly i'm not in the know enough to guess if HTML thing is easy to convert to. I don't even knkw what HTML thing is.
And we're a progressive, up to date website, apparently. I think we have a better website than most places that employ people, which is incredibly funny to me.
