Okay. There have been many topics that have been wandering around this topic, but now I want to know:

"When push comes to shove and someone you're really close to tells you they're gay, what would you do?"

Like, let's say your best friend ever one day tells you he or she is really in despair about something and needs to tell you, and ends up coming out to you.

Or what if your child ends up coming out to you at a teenage age.

We all have our opinions on homosexuality, but I want to know, when push comes to shove, will your opinion change on that person or will your opinion change on the orientation itself because of your bond with that person?

no matter who the person is, i will never see them any different than what I already thought they were. Like... Dar-
    *cough*

The person will always be the same, and many people must learn to embrace it. Its like racism. Many are against it because they're told its wrong, yet a whole lot of people are racist because they've been influenced by others.

There will always be two sides to any one story. And I always find myself on the right side. I'm not racist. I'm not against gays or bisexuals or any members of people who aren't like me.

Angel speaks the truth, if my best friend was to call me right this second and tell me he was a homosexual, i wouldn't think any less of him, he'd still be my best and he always will be, though this isn't the case for all people, some are raging homophobes who would run to the next state if their friend told them they were gay, we all have different opinions on the matter but where i stand is that it's ok to be gay.

Probably a little shocked but wouldn't mind, if they have trusted me enough to tell me they are homosexual then why should change my opinion of them? Friends still a friend at the end of the day.

Well spoken, Angel! Yes, it might be a surprise to me, as Peace-and-War mentioned, but I've had friends come out and say this and it doesn't affect me in the least really. It isn't going to make me not trust them or hate them or fear them. I'm not gay, but it doesn't mean I have to suddenly not like the person. I obviously had found a friend and I don't consider being gay to be a negative thing that I'd toss that all away for.

Of course, if they tell me they are gay and then 'like me' I treat it like someone who is straight and the opposite gender and say I'm not interested in that kind of relationship. There is no reason to treat it differently in my mind. You say no or yes and it is no more uncomfortable to me than if someone is of the opposite gender hitting on me and I'm not attracted.

For the most part though, anyone who confided in me their secret was actually not hitting on me. They just wanted a good friend to know and to hope for a positive reaction. It's all cool with me. I'm not going to be in his/her bedroom. Why should I care? It's just something to know about someone I care about.

I would be shocked that my friend would be that comfortable to open up to me like that, but other than that nothing! My oppinion of him wouldn't change just because they choose to love the same sex. I can't imagine someone would stop being friends with their BF just because he's decided he's gay! That would be stupid! My friendship wouldn't change because of that! ...I may be a little wary when he wants me to sleep at their house, but....No I am joking! I'd still be with them till the end!

I can't understand how anyone would be mad or upset or even shocked really. Its not like it changes who they are lol, its just a personal preference. Its the same exact thing as coke or pepsi.

You know pepsi made an ad patronizing coke?

You can't compare being "gay" with pespi and coke.
It's like saying females are cows and men are bears.

    It just doesn't work.

I wouldn't mind at all. I'd advise friends and family to come out to me if it's what they really want. If they hit on me, I don't get offended like most people would, I would feel flattered (despite the fact I wouldn't be attracted to the male, because I'm not gay).

If it was a super close friend I might have to sleep on it, because I mean...if it's like Trigger and I for example, and Trigger comes out to me, then wtf? I thought these past two years were friendship, then I learn he wants me? WTF.

It'd make me a little confused, and it'd most likely change our friendship. But that doesn't change the way I think about him as a person. It's very unfortunate people can live to accept the choices and belief's of their children and/or long term friends.

Shoot, I ain't that low. And ya know what, I have experiance too, my friend told me he was homo, and here's how it went.

    Nick: Jalen, we're friends right?

Jalen: Uhh sure, what are you getting at?

    Nick: I'm homo.

    Jalen: Who do you like?

    Nick: What?

Jalen: I was just wondering who you like, I could help you score.

You see? I actually figured he was, he acted allittle weird around this kid in my class. He is my buddy no matter what, and nothing will break a sacred bond like that. And that goes to all of you, nothing should break a bond like friendship, it's too special.

I gotta say that I have no idea what I'd do.

If it was a person I'd just met and realized that our entire friendship was just hitting on me, it'd be weird.

But if it was my best friend or something, I don't really care. My best friend and me have been through anything a friendship can, through fights, his parents getting a divorce, etc etc. We'd be homies to the end :D

But seriously, I have no clue....

    Um, no.

That's not the same. He's talking about choice, not about what's what and who's who.

    I just realized I didn't post my opinion =P

Obviously, having the experience of coming out myself embedded in my mind, I'd be perfectly fine with someone coming out to me. And, in fact, I've had many friends come out to me after I came out of the closet for some reason.

However, a few years back, before I was out, a friend came out to me. I didn't show it, but I was terrified. Not of him, and nothing changed between us, but of the future. Because I knew I was too, but now that I had witnessed someone I knew personally coming out, the concept became that much more real. There was now a likeness between us that somehow let me to reflect upon myself.

All in all, though, nothing changes.
